more
Sarah was a southern belle who was running from an arranged marriage. Her parents wanted her to marry her childhood friend to join two very wealthy families. The problem was they were friends, but definitely not in love. When she found out her father had been cheating and was told to expect the same from all men, she ran. That was not the kind of marriage she wanted.
Sarah ended up in Maine at a B&B on the coast. She was befriended by the owner, who left her in charge when she had to leave to care for a sister who was ill. While at the cottages, she began to paint again and discover who she was.
There was also another guest who came to the cottages every year to write. Caleb was a best selling author who wrote gory crime novels. He was moody and rude, at times, but the attraction between Caleb and Sarah was instant. Sarah had trust issues and Caleb didn’t do relationships but when the two got together the fireworks were explosive.
When Sarah’s life was threatened, Caleb discovered that maybe there was someone he was willing to risk his heart for. Sarah discovered that she had to learn to trust again and Caleb was the man she wanted to give her trust to.
I enjoyed this story. It was raw, at times, and real. I didn’t particularly enjoy the descriptive sex scenes. I prefer more fade to black without the details but all of the chemistry.
Sweet escape for a runaway bride
4.5 stars I found this a quick, enjoyable read. The romantic trysts are not too explicit; there’s plenty of drama as heroine Sara steals away from Savannah and lays low while establishing her independence. It was great to read about her transition from a pampered Southern debutante to a spirited woman ready to pursue her dream vocation and, in a pinch, put her hand to oddsbody work in small-town Blue Hill, Maine.
Hero Caleb is not immediately likable but Sara accepts his rough spots and earns his respect and amorous attention despite himself. Innkeeper Gladys, ebullient maid Lily and Caleb’s close and loving family gave the story warmth. The danger twist at the end added extra drama and Sara’s Maine meeting with her parents was a pleasant surprise. There were a few editing misses and off word choices, but, on the whole, it was a moving romance and well worth reading.

Suspense Meets Romance in Maine
This is a solid romance that takes place at a coastal Maine cottage. The story unfolds with a solid plot and wonderful characters. It is the first book of a series that chronicles a family. I can’t wait to read the next episode. I bought this book and this is my honest review.
