Bride of Fire
By Glynnis Campbell
ARC in exchange for honest review
This was an entertaining read. I truly enjoyed the storyline and the characters. Jenefer was a strong female heroine that you could look up to. She didn’t need her man to save her. I love stories when the woman can be a strong role model and yet she can still be a woman. This story was entertaining and fun. The characters were engaging and the storyline was so entertaining I read literally in two sittings. Worth the read!! Can’t wait for the next two in the series!
It’s been years since I’ve spent time with The Warrior Maids of Rivenloch. This book was a wonderful welcome back. The Maids daughters are all on the cusp of womanhood and have their own tales to share. This first book in The Warrior Daughters of Rivenloch series, Bride of Fire, features Jenefer, Helena’s daughter. The Lowland Scottish lass learns that her brash temper and fierce skills alone will not win over the Highlander, Morgan. She must learn and adapt to fulfill her dreams. The plot line ebbs and flows with brilliance. The chemistry between Jenefer and Morgan sizzles! The characters were robust and authentic. The author’s use of figurative language painted a beautiful tapestry in my mind’s eye. It was a welcome home to Rivenloch that will keep me around to hear the tales of Jenefer’s cousins.
I’ve read several of Glynnis Campbell’s books and even though I know how good a writer she is, she never fails to knock my socks off. This one checks of all the boxes for me: a story that brings back characters from her earlier works; intense, complex and unpredictable characters you grow to know and love as the story moves forward; humor; mystery, lots of heat and an HEA. Morgan and Jen are memorable characters, and they’re surrounded by a castle’s worth of great secondary characters that add depth and substance to the story … even the evil ones! I love this one and highly recommend.
Complex plot with twists and turns, attention to historical detail, easy to read, fun moments with undeniable attraction between the hero and heroine
Entertaining, albeit a bit of a rush to finish by the author.
Wonderful, Entertaining, Passion & Romantic
Just like their mothers, the Daughters of Rivenloch are to stubborn & hardheaded for their own good. Jenefer is going to fight to get the castle she was promised.
Morgan is a highlander who was given the castle from the King. Jenefer decided to do whatever it takes to get Morgan to give up the castle & ends up being captured & held prisoner by Morgan.
I laughed so much & felt sadness & passion from the characters.

My review :
« “Amor vincit omnia,” »
Can two people whose relationship began as a war of will find a truce and more together…
From Glynnis Campbell medieval tales I have only read The Reiver, I fell in love with her work through her California Legend series.
I know I have other samples of her work on my shelves but I never find time to read it so a new release and a first in a series is to me the best opportunity to going back to this talented author’s stories.
What a lovely tale it is, between banters and fights, it is packed with actions, betrayal, distrust and sensual moments.
At first I was astonished the story was about Morgan, a widower of three months only, who took hard the passing of his late wife in childbirth. So much he even rejected his own son.
That in spite of the love he professed for his late wife, he can so soon be attracted by another woman.
But it was another time, other customs. Life was faster, things moved at another pace.
Jenefer is so different from his late wife, she awakens his body before his brain notices it. She is his perfect matched, courageous and confident.
Quickly they see past their own beliefs, and fall for the other.
I won’t spoil the plot, but I really disliked Morgan to be able to go from on bed to another so quickly.
Worse I would have slapped him a few time for being so blindsided and so easily led by the nose. Honor and stupidity do not need to be tied.
Jenefer was really fair to let him go unscathed.
In all, I loved this tale of winning another trust, seing the real one behind the mask. There was the perfect mix of humorous moments, dynamic interactions, steamy scenes and an incredible vilain I loved hating.
