Lisa Allen has spent her entire life being different, and being different was perfectly fine with her as long as her two best friends were at her side. But now both of her friends have gone West to marry Mounties, leaving Lisa without their constant companionship. Lisa’s mother makes her realize she wants to be a Mountie’s wife as well, so she goes to see Miss Hazel, the matchmaker who helped her … her two friends find happiness.
Wesley Jacobson has never known what it was like to have a family, filling the gap with his fellow Mounties and the people he serves. When he hears that there’s a matchmaker willing to introduce Mounties to mail-order brides, he immediately sends off a letter, having no idea what to expect. What he didn’t anticipate was being sent a bride with cerebral palsy who he sees as weak and incapable. Will Lisa be able to convince Wesley that she’s as capable as any other wife in the West? Or will they spend their entire lives at cross purposes?

Lisa Allen’s 2 best friends become Mail Order Brides to Mounties in the first round of this Series. I have so enjoyed getting to know the country of Canada. Lisa decided she too wants to become a Mail Order Bride. She has a form of Cerebral Palsy. Miss Hazel gives her a bit of extra training before the rest of the girls arrive. The four girls are taught the things Miss Hazel feels they need to learn about managing a house. They embark to their new home in Yukon Territory.
Wesley Jacobsen is waiting at the train station. He wants a wife and has hopes she will be pretty and strong to handle the winters in the Yukon. He also has hopes she will be a good cook. When Lisa arrives with her small fluffy dog Sophie, she is very pretty but she limps. Wesley is taken aback and doesn’t know how to respond at first. He fears if he touches her he will break her. He doesn’t know yet how strong willed and capable she is. Good days and bad days are part of Lisa’s life and have been. She sets out to prove to herself that after a lifetime of being coddled by her family that she can take care of herself and a husband.
Clara the cougar cub will cause a few problems when Lisa insists on taking care of her damaged leg, without Wesley’s knowledge. Wesley wants to take care of Lisa, but he goes about it differently from her parents who she said smothered her. He wants to make life easier for her by making things for her that will make her daily tasks easier for her to do, not doing things for her. The learn to become a couple in time. Lisa is a sassy strong woman and Wesely is a tough Mountie.
There are natives and the onset of a Yukon winter in this story along with love and awareness for CP. Well thought out plot and fantastic characters. You will enjoy this book immensely!
Lisa has felt lonely as Jess and Joann are now married to mounties and she wants a life of her own. She goes to see Miss Hazel and she has surprise letter from Jess asking about other brides for more mounties in the north. Lisa is picked for Wesley.
After learning to cook and take care of a house the women and Miss Hazel set off to the Yukon to have the ladies get married. With little Sophie going alone they finally arrive.
Wesley seesLisa gets the train and hope that is not his bride to be. She has a dog for one and looks very fragile. He learns that she is his bride to be and they walk to his cabin to get married.
Lisa has cerebral palsy and wants to be stronger and Wesley wants to take care of her.
There are some funny moments and then some tantrums. Overall they book was good.
Oh, this is one of the best stories I have read by Kirsten Osbourne. I loved this story as it takes someone who was born with Cerebral Palsy and was treated as fragile all her life and just wanted to be able to learn to live on her own and be a normal person for as normal as she can be. Her mother told her that Miss Hazel could probably help by finding a husband for her.
She gets training to cook and clean and sew, and all the things a wife needs to know. Since people were always doing things for her she really wanted this but she didn’t have the confidence to do these things. She has one arm that gets weak some days and one leg that she ends up having to drag and somethings have muscle spasms so bad that she can’t hardly move.
She does get a match and she will be married to a Mountie in the Yukon Territory.
She has three other women who are also going to be trained quickly to get to the Yukon Territory before the snow starts to fall and the train can’t get there.
Lisa and Maryann find out they will be in the same place and that is a really good thing.
Lisa also has to take her precious dog along and she just hopes her new husband is okay with that and her physical problems.
Wesley see’s this really pretty woman gets off the train but she has a dog and that is the last thing he wanted. But he finds out that she is his bride.
Then all the fun begins and some trouble but this is a great story about triumph over diversity. A story about becoming a strong woman that no one thought possible. This is one of those stories that can make you laugh and cry and just applaud the outcome of everything.
I really recommend you read this book. You can read this fifth book in the series as a read alone or start with book one in this multi author series. It is worth the read and I also enjoyed the first four books as well.
It was a good clean read and it did not disappoint. Characters were not shallow. Maybe could have been a tad longer so the ending didn’t feel rushed.
