A chilly breeze…and another dead body. Raina Sun thought cleaning her grandma’s house in San Francisco to prepare for Chinese New Year would be a breeze. Instead, she finds her deceased grandfather’s secret journal and ends up French kissing the train tracks in a mugging incident. After putting the move on her grandma, her grandfather’s BFF took an elevator ride straight to the Heavenly Gates. … the Heavenly Gates. And the second time Raina ends up flat on her back without a man in sight, she suspects the Year of the Monkey would leave her skulking in cold damp places where family secrets are better off dying with the dead.

Love the Raina books. PoPo is such a loveable character..
enjoyed
The grandma was so cute. The stink bomb idea was really funny. The book kept your attention and you never knew what was coming next. I would recommend this series of books.
It was easy reading. Keep my attention. Would read more by the author
Lots of information on the Chinese culture which was very interesting if not sometimes confusing. The main character sometimes seemed whinny. This is a confinuation story; this murder ended but the story goes on.
cozy-mystery, san-francisco, humor, Chinese-customs, family-dynamics, relationships
This time Raina is in San Francisco for Chinese New Year when she gets mixed up in another murder investigation. Her PoPo is her sidekick once again, and all kinds of mischief as well as real danger ensue. The insights into Chinese cultural beliefs and practices are fascinating to those of us who have been raised in other ethnic backgrounds. As a cozy mystery, it is really great, with a strong story line and more twists than a mountain road! Each of the books in the series is a stand alone, but they make you want to read all of them!
This was the first book I read from the collection. Took me a bit to familiarized with the carecters, mostly because of the big chinese family with odd names. But it was that that actualy kept me interested. In the end, not a bad book. The last chapter got me curious, but got to say, the bonus chapter from the next book didn’t continue that line of action. I guess we will have to see. But fisrt book next. 🙂
Great series

Couldn’t get past the first couple of chapters. Not very engaging.
If you want to learn a little about Chinese and Chinese-American culture dig into this series. The main character is an amateur detective and grad student. She is surrounded by a quirky family and thousands of years of tradition.
I didn’t care for this book. In fact, I didn’t finish reading it.
I enjoy this series. It is light and entertaining to read.
