Joey…I wouldn’t say I ran away exactly—twenty-two is too old for that. I’d call it self-preservation.I have one objective: protect my heart from the boy next door who has no clue I’ve loved him my whole life, even with a front row seat to his revolving bedroom door.My escape plan almost worked.Except I left one thing behind.Logan Carter hijacked my heart, and it’s time to get it back. This time … time to get it back. This time for good.
Logan…
I wouldn’t say I’ve been lying this whole time—not about everything.
Not about how much I miss my best friend, and definitely not about how pissed I am that she left with hardly a goodbye.
She’s the last person I ever expected to ghost me, and her absence left a gaping hole in my chest.
When Joey Grayson steps off that bus, I know I’ll do anything to keep her home, and that means finding out the truth.
But I’m not sure how to tell her my truths when I’m living so many lies.

Wow, what a rollercoaster in the best possible way!
It was nice to see the gang together again. I missed Tori and Ethan and I’m glad they were a part of the story.
Now for the good stuff. You couldn’t help but love Joey and feel for her at the beginning. I was team Joey all the way, but I quickly gained a soft spot for Logan. The character was charming and the chemistry between him and Joey couldnt be stopped.
Story flowed really well and I liked the twists and turns thrown, which kept me on my toes.
Highly recommend!
I loved being back in this world with these characters! I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars. This review is for an ARC, and reflects my honest opinion.
Reckless was one of my all-time favorite books, and I absolutely loved Shameless too. I had high expectations going into this, and it didn’t disappoint. Joey was super sweet from what we saw previously, and I absolutely loved getting to know her more. I felt bad for what she had to deal with growing up, and the residual effects it had on her.
As for Logan, I ended up loving him, but he was kind of iffy for me at the start of this. I think I liked him in the previous book, but we didn’t really know about his protective, sweet side. Without spoiling anything, I’ll just say he was super loyal, and stepped up in a big way. Did he make some mistakes? Of course, but who doesn’t? I still love his brother more. Team Ethan for life!
Overall, this was an amazing read. I loved getting to see past characters, especially the other couples. I would love it if this author kept going with this series, but not sure she will. This was friends-to-lovers, but the plot played out differently than I expected. I highly recommend you check out this series if you enjoy contemporary romance that’s steamy along with some hilarious hijinks.
Lex martin is back and with a bang. Breathless was EVERYTHING. I sure do love friends to lover books, this book had me on the edge of my seat swooning and wanting more. Lex has a way of making you fall so hard for the story and characters, she writes stories that leave you breathless and wanting the story to go on forever. This has to be my favorite book of hers to date.
Breathless was about two people coming together again, two friends finding that together they are stronger. Joey was the best, Joey has loved Logan for a long time so when she returns back home she didn’t expect to be thrown into her feelings again. Logan was amazing, I loved him so much. Logan has loved Joey since he can remember, these two are FIRE together even when they don’t see it themselves.
I loved how these two needed each other to be happy, they needed each other in order to feel complete. This book was about a friendship that was always suppose to be more. This a A MUST READ, you will fall head over heels for these characters and their story.
I chose the perfect book to read as my first Lex Martin book! Breathless is book 3 in the Texas Nights series of stand-alones and it delivered exactly what I needed; lots of swooning moments that melted my heart and made me smile while I clutched my over-whelmed heart.
The friends-to-lovers romance dished out all the feels for me. There wasn’t one that didn’t hit me at some point. Joey and Logan’s story and all the crap they’ve lived through blew me away. Author, Lex Martin, really pulled out all the stops to bring romance to the pages. This love story has sweet moments of tenderness, frustrating moments due to bonehead decisions, angsty moments when things get kicked up a notch, and nail-biting moments when decisions need to be made and the future is uncertain.
I fell in love with the way Logan slowly realizes how important Joey is to him, to every part of his life, and the patience he shows Joey.
Joey may be the sweetest girl on the planet, but she has some serious self-esteem issues. She hasn’t been dealt the best hand in life so far, so she has reason to be cautious, but when she finally sees the real Logan and realization hits her, my heart cracked a little.
There is no way to describe all the emotions that this story brought to the table without spilling all the beans and spoiling this book. If you love sexy Texan beasts who wear a tux just right, who know how to say all the right words, who know how to pull off awesome surprises to make up for the past, and who know how to make a woman drop to her knees, then I totally recommend Breathless.
This is book 3 in the Texas Night series and it can certainly be read and enjoyed as a standalone.
Steamy, funny and full of heart, this is Joey and Logan’s story.
They’re long time friends and neighbors until they’re not!
What happened you’ll have to find out!
This story was smart, and well written. Their banter was funny and edgy and their chemistry was combustible and off the charts hot.
Logan is the town playboy and while he wasn’t my favorite hero (just me and where my head was at the time of reading)I loved how the story evolved and how he redeemed himself.
I really enjoyed this read and the cameo appearances of characters from the prior books was a nice touch.
Do you know what it feels like to love someone that only views you as a friend? Can you imagine watching from afar when that person seeks solace in the arms of someone else? For Joey – the pain of loving Logan was really more than she could bear. Determined to get Logan out of her thoughts, Joey leaves town and tries to escape the turmoil of her tattered heart.
Time doesn’t always heal a broken heart, and Joey is about to rediscover what attracted her to Logan in the first place. With a wedding upon the horizon, Joey returns to town to herself thrust into Logan’s life once more. As the two spend their days and nights with the chaos of planning a wedding, the duo quickly discovers that those feelings from long ago are determined to work their way to the surface.
Breathless is a true friends-to-lovers romance that has all of the ‘sweetness’ you would expect from this romantic trope. While the story was engaging, I found that it held a lot of predictability. In fact – I guessed the plot twist long before it ever played out in the story. Does that make me love the story any less? No….I just didn’t find myself blown away from the overall plot. This story was a sweet second chance at love for two individuals that have a huge interconnected life.
*´`*•. 4 REVIEW .•*´`*
There’s something about stories set in the Lone Star State I can’t resist! You definitely don’t want to miss Breathless, the third book in the Texas Nights series, a Friends-to-Lovers standalone that hits all the boxes. Filled with incredible characters and a storyline that has a twist you don’t see coming, this one kept me glued to my seat! You’ll want to spend a lazy afternoon with the Carter clan.
“The first time I kissed you, I finally understood why people write love songs.”
Josephine “Joey” Grayson has been in love with Logan, her brother Silas’s best friend, since she was a little girl. Joey and Silas grew up a few doors down from the Carter’s horse ranch, and when the Grayson and Carter family had a falling out, so did Silas and Logan. But Logan and Joey remained friends, and with the four year age difference between them, she was like the little sister he never had. And Joey accepted that until she overheard something that made her realize she needed to move on.
“I didn’t even know you were the part of me that was missing.”
Joey and Silas were raised by their grandmother after their father left and their mother died. So six months ago she unexpectedly moved with her grandmother, to Florida, using the excuse her grandma was ill and needed to be closer to her family there. Joey stayed after her unexpected death; she invested her entire measly life savings into opening a business with a cousin. Now back in town, for her best friend Tori’s wedding, she can’t avoid seeing Logan. He’s the groom’s brother.
“I’m not sure how to explain the emotion careening through my chest. How to explain the way it’s easier to breathe when she’s with me.”
Logan Carter is anxious to see Joey and find out why his best friend suddenly ghosted him. She hasn’t answered his texts or calls, it’s like she forgot all about him. He needs to convince Joey to move back home, he really misses her. Logan will do anything to find out what happened, so he can fix it. Fix them.
“Out of all my friends, Jojo is my ride-or-die. She’d bury a body in my back yard if I asked her to.”
Joey’s just something else he’s had to worry about, at twenty-six years old, Logan feels like he’s been weighed down by too much work, and secrets he’s been keeping. For the last eight years, after his father died when he was still a senior in high school, his life changed drastically. And there are some things he can’t even tell his only brother, secrets he’s never even confided to his best friend. How could he explain now, all these years later? He puts up with everyone thinking he spends his time carousing around when nothing could be further from the truth, but that’s the reputation he’s had for years. If they only knew the truth!
“I understand it in my mind, but my heart doesn’t want to catch up.”
Joey and Logan are forced to spend time together, it seems Tori and Ethan, had everything planned out. Everyone thinks they belong together, and not just as friends. But those secrets Logan has been covering up for so long are about to be revealed, and they have dangerous consequences no one saw coming.
“Life’s too short not to say what you mean and live the life you want.”
I have really enjoyed each addition to the Texas Night series and Breathless was another fantastic book that kept me spellbound. This book was by far one of my absolute favorite friends to lover romances I’ve had the pleasure of reading. The feels kept me fully invested in Logan and Joey’s story and butterflies constantly fluttering in my stomach. I laughed, sighed, swooned and fell so hard for these two. Breathless was a sweet and steamy read with all the feels that at times left me breathless yet left me with a huge smile on my face. I can’t wait to see what’s in store next in this series!
Joey and Logan have been best friends since they were kids. But what is a girl supposed to do when she has been secretly in love with her best friend for years? She runs off to Florida of course. Now six months later she has to come back to Texas and face him. Can she handle just being friends?
“friends to lovers” stories, I have ever read! The chemistry and bond these two have made for a perfect blend between hot and sweet. Seeing Logan’s determination was so swoony to witness. This beautiful couple’s journey was exquisite and such an emotional experience to see unfold. An absolute MUST READ!! 5 stars!
Joey & Logan’s story is here! This series is phenomenal! I love how it left my heart so full. Joey and Logan have a history and their friendship suffered all those years ago. But now that Joey is back, it’s time for secrets to be revealed and love to be pursued.
Another intense read from this series but easily read as a standalone. This author knows how to write romance and leave you completely in love with love. Grab this one now and keep it close to you. It will stay in your heart.
I have wanted Logan’s story since we first met him in Reckless. He was a player with an edge about him. I was so excited when I found out Lex Martin was giving us his story. She did not disappoint!!! Logan is more than just a player. He’s loyal and will do anything to protect his family. He also misses his best friend Josephine, aka Joey. I absolutely love Joey. She’s so sassy! She’s also in love with Logan and has been for years. Gah! I loved watching their story evolve!!
Breathless is full of emotion, angst, some drama, thanks to a crazy lady, and some seriously hot AF sexy times. I highly recommend it!
Breathless is book three in the Texas Nights Series and each book can be read as a standalone, but you do see others stories continue in each book per say. Joey oh Joey what can I say? At the time you did what you felt was best, but I’m going to say it’s not you coming home for the wedding it’s fate’s way of saying it is time to put all the feelings out there and see where this plays out. Logan is a typical man and isn’t looking to settle down, he’s protective, loves his friends/family and enjoys his bestie (Joey). Now if only he can find out the truth on why she left town and how to fix it now that she is back temporarily. This story will truly leave you Breathless and those emotions are tugging at your heart so the laughter we endure while reading this eases these pangs we get. The chemistry and bond shared between Joey/Logan is there, these two friends were to hard headed, but now that they are grown the time is now. You will fall in love with this story and the others if you read those as well! All I gotta say is, I for Liberty please!! You must read the story to understand, but the author will get it so fingers crossed.
I know Breathless is book 3 in the Texas Nights but it’s the first book I read and I can tell you I don’t feel like I missed anything not reading the first two. But I did love Breathless so much both Shameless and Reckless are now on the top of my TBR. This friends to lovers book is absolutely amazing.
Joey has loved Logan forever, the problem? He’s a man and doesn’t see it. These two have a slow burn, I want to throw my kindle or reach through and strangle them both until they are on the same page. Joey and Logan had their signals so crossed they weren’t even in the same book.
Breathless had everything I love in a book, drama (yes, I love drama – but not over the top, wtf kind of drama), it had love, so much love. Even if not everyone knew. It had emotions, so many different emotions. They have cared for each other forever, but not necessarily the way they thought. Logan and Joey’s story is a sweet story about what happens when you fall in love with your best friend.
Lex Martin left me feeling so happy, and my heart full of love. Martin had me hooked from the start when she tells us Joey is coming back. I need to know why she left and what was going to happen. Breathless was well-written and addicting. I loved every second and cannot wait to see what else Lex Martin has to offer. Breathless was an amazing introduction to Lex Martin and has made me a fan!
Ohhh my gosh! I adored this! 5 ++ STARS!! Lex Martin‘s writing is beautiful, powerful and really gets me in the feels. I had no idea what I expected when I started this one but I was completely captivated by the characters, and their story. The writing was enticing and addicting and I couldn’t get enough. I had forgotten how much I loved this series and I reconnected with the characters from the previous 2 books, Shameless and Reckless immediately. Joey and Logan have been friends forever. They grew up with one another and were always the best of friends. Joey has hidden feelings for Logan. Friends-to-Lovers stories are one of my favorite tropes in the romance genre. The connection between Joey & Logan as friends first is a beautiful one, and when it moves into more it becomes explosive. The chemistry was amazing. Logan has a huge heart. He looks after those he loves first even if it means sacrifices his own happiness along the way. Logan has a secret he is harboring and waiting for it to drop and see how it would affect what he and Joey were building was excruciating but I just knew it would all work out in the end. Joey has the sweetest, kindest heart but she had to protect it when she feels that her feelings for Logan are not reciprocated. She leaves their small town in Texas and moves to Florida but a few months later returns for Tori’s wedding. Once Logan sees her he will do everything to get answers as to why she left and will also stop at nothing to keep her from leaving again. I cannot get over the emotions and the feels that this one brought out in me, and I cannot wait for more by Lex Martin in the future.
NOTE: I received an advanced reader copy from the author via Candi Kane PR, in exchange on a honest review.
This book will take your breath away!
Joey has been living away from home for a few years, but coming back for a wedding, she doesn’t expect the first person she sees is her ex- best friend. Logan can’t understand why Joey left, but now that she’s back, he’s not going to let her go again. This friends-to-lovers book makes you remember why friends are so important. The chemistry between these two is off the charts, and I wanted to be Joey’s friend, and Logan’s date myself. Lex Martin knows how to write emotions, and Breathless is probably my favorite book of hers to date!!
AHHHH! You guys!
Logan and Joey were absolutely scrumptious!
I gobbled this book up! I couldn’t get enough. Their delicious chemistry sucked me in immediately and I was a complete goner. I forget, sometimes, how completely decadent a well-written friends-to-lovers book can feel, but Breathless served as a solid reminder and satisfied on every level.
There is so much to love here. It’s a little angsty – but in the best way. The sort of feeling when your heart aches for two people to be together and you can hardly stand to wait while they figure it out themselves? And then they do – and your heart begins a crazy dance – knocking around wildly in your chest leaving you, well…breathless. All that. Plus: heat. Lord almighty, the heat between these two. Sizzling hot and devilishly dirty and, most importantly for me, perfectly balanced with their emotional connection. This story is the whole package, y’all. So swoony!
A little bit heavy, a little bit light, the story felt well-rounded and perfectly paced. I laughed out loud in a couple of places, and other times my eyes welled with tears. My heart raced in suspenseful anticipation, and oh, how it ached for these to fantastic characters sometimes. This was just what my sappy little romance-loving heart was craving and I could not have been happier with it!
I absolutely LOVED Joey and Logan’s story! This is going to be tough for me to review without giving anything away…I’ll just say if you love books about a girl that has always been in love with a boy who has never seen her…this is for you! If there is a secret…a huge secret that one person is keeping from another person (and it leaves a knot in your belly while reading) this is for you! This was such an amazing book! Go one click it now!!
I adored this book! Breathless is a friends to lovers story thats totally swoonworthy!
You’re definitely gonna want to read this beauty. I fell in love with Logan & Joey’s story and not to mention how adorable Joey is! Absolutely love her!
Lex Martin’s writing is incredible and I always devour every word and that’s just what I did with Breathless. This book had me swooning so hard.
So what are you waiting for, go grab Joey & Logan today!
Yasssss we have a Logan book finally. And the wait did not disappoint! I loved it so much for Logan and Joey to get their happy ending!
What a great friends-to-lovers second chance romance. Breathless has a bit of everything – witty banter, some angst, some fun. It was a really great book to read. Lex Martin’s writing is riveting and engaging, bringing the reader along for a wonderful ride on the road to a Happily-Ever-After.
