I would say I have probably read most of Kristen Ashley’s or Karin Slaughter’s books in one sitting, but one of my top favorites would probably be The Colorado Mountain series by Kristen Ashley. Breathe is my favorite of the series and I read straight through without sleeping. It has it all to me, suspense, heartache and the over all power of love.
Awesome book Awesome writer. 6 stars.
“Baby,” he whispered. “Before I go, I want your mouth.”
Breathe< was relatively calm compared to Kristen Ashley's previous three books in this series, of course it wouldn't be a KA book without a little kidnapping so there was that. While I never doubted Faye and Chace's love for one second, there was something that did not quite hit right for me this one. I did love it but compared to The Gamble, Sweet Dreams and Lady Luck I didn't feel that pull between them that I did with the previous couples. We met Chace in the previous book of this series, and he was almost a force to be reckoned with. He had done wrong and by was no means a saint, but he was a good detective. He stood of up for Ty and helped get his name clear, but he was married to a woman he despised, a woman that ended up dead. Just because Chace didn't like her didn't mean he wanted her dead; it was his job to protect her and he didn't do that. In not being able to care for her the way he should have, Chace is left with a lot of guilt about what he deserves. Everyone knows who Faye is, but he doesn't deserve someone like that, someone so sweet and pure. He can put her out of his head and keep on doing what needs to be done until Faye takes things into her own hands and kisses him. Now, that he knows what she tastes like he can't possibly stay away. Faye has been in love with Detective Chace Keaton for 13 years and wants nothing more than for him to notice her. She knows he can't do that when he is still stuck on his dead wife, a wife that the whole town knew he didn't love. Faye decides to try and take matters into her own hands and help him notice her when she comes across him in the woods one night. She just ended up on Detective Keaton's radar and probably not in the way she was hoping. After a series of events leaves Faye needing help from the police, she comes face to face with Chace again but decides to things one step further and kisses him. As with all the KA books I have read it is a pretty quick instant love or serious infatuation which I am totally OK with but there was something as I have said that didn't really do it for me. Faye was probably one of the most relatable characters I have ever read because of all her quirks and serious geekiness. Chace was even wonderful after he got over his small issues and opened up to Faye. Almost like this was a filler book that led to the next, I am not entirely sure. Quick mention though, that was one long ass epilogue that I felt would have been better in the story than as a part of the epilogue. Oh well, still a four-star read for me!!
I love Kristen Ashley’s books. I have read this book twice. I loved the characters and the story.
this is my favourite book on the colorado mountain series and i actually adore kristen ashley
I’m really enjoying this series. The hero jerk moments are on the low end for KA books, and thank goodness because some of those bad moments can ruin a book for me.
In Chase’s case he was trying to protect Faye. His jerkiness also didn’t last long. Once Chase decided he couldn’t stay away from her, these two were just adorable together. I really enjoyed seeing the town’s hunky cop pursuing the town’s shy librarian.
Faye was cute. She was a total geek and she came off as a very sweet person with a bit of a temper. That temper saved her from being a stale character. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was her constant use of the word Frak in place of the F word. It was used a lot.
I love that we got to see the same side characters again. Their loyalty and friendship really adds a lot to the couples story. I loved that we got more closure to the town’s criminal activity that was happening in the previous books, and last but not least, I also enjoyed the storyline with the homeless boy. Got me right in the heart.
Love the author
So love this book. The town library en and the town hero. Long life love come true. Two kids how need a hero and a sweet lady in there life. This is a must read !!!
This book was fantastic. The Faye is a sweet, shy librarian and Chase a good guy who is tortured by his past and the path he has chosen to take. They have a rocky start, and that’s what drew me in. Faye thinks Chase can do no wrong, and Chase knows he most certainly can.
There are some very emotional parts in this book, particularly around the young homeless boy that brings them together. There is also a good dose of mystery and action that keeps the story humming along.
Faye is an interesting MC – she is quirky, funny and easy to relate to. Chase took some time to grow on me, but once you learn about him and the real reason he has done what he has, then that changes.
This book is cute, funny, sexy and a tear jerker.
Audiobook update: One of my favorite authors and even with an okay narrator, it still rocks! I’m absolutely thrilled to re-experience this books in a different way.
Another absolutely amazing installment in the Colorado Mountain series. I fell in love with Chace in this book, but the character who blew me away was Faye. Loved it!
Loved it!! Highly recommend
EXCELLENT!
***Spoilers***
Move over Max and Ty, This book is now my favorite book of the series to date! I Fraking loved this book!!!!! Faye was Fan-Fraking-Tastic. She made this book for me. I have a total nerd girl crush on her. Faye was this awesome book nerd, sci fi geek, virginal librarian. She loved her books, her Battlestar Galactica, her Firefly, her Star Wars and she doesn’t hide it. She seen Chace 13 years ago when she was 16 and she fell in love with him. She has been holding out for her Hero ever since. She was shy, but she wasn’t a doormat. Sweet, but she had some sass. She was smart and soft spoken but she had a temper. It was so funny when she lost her temper and started poppin’ off her sci-fi geek speak. What I loved about Faye was she had so much personality. She was unique, and hilarious and she stole my heart.
Chace was sexy, broody, and all alpha, but other then a little frak up in the beginning he wasn’t a a-hole. Chace had a ton of demons and no small amount of guilt that he was drowning in. Chace reminded me a lot of Max, and I adored Max. Chace was a great man and did what was right even when it was hard. A yummy protective cop Chace was a true hero. Chace didn’t feel he deserved Faye. See Chace also wanted Faye for years, but he wasn’t ready to settle down and Faye was very young. So he thought he would sow his wild oats and later make her his wife. Problem was he got caught up in his father’s dirt and was blackmailed into marrying an evil woman to protect his mentally ill mom. Even thought his wife was a horrible person he felt guilt that she was murdered and not only did he not protect her, he treated her bad because he wanted nothing to do with her or the fake marriage she forced him into. Then being undercover for the IA to take down all the dirty cops on his force he felt dirty and tainted.
I loved that Faye was able to break through all Chace’s guilt and walls and show him it wasn’t his fault and that he was in fact a hero. I love that she gave him peace. Chace was great for Faye too. He made her feel safe and sexy. His full love and acceptance helped her come out of her shell. He gave her support, romance and of course great sex! They both had a lot of passion and you could feel the intensity of their connection like they were real. This book was lower on the angst scale and I got to enjoy Faye and Chace falling in love and the build up of their relationship. The whole Miah story line was so heartbreaking and sweet. I teared up a few times. I was really enjoying Deck in this book and now I’m kinda looking forward to his book. I will say that I almost took off a star because Faye got kidnapped. I am kinda getting tired of ever single heroine getting kidnapped that plot has gotten old. I wasn’t even worried about her. I just rolled my eyes. But in the end I loved Faye and Chace so much that I over looked that 2% of the book and and went with the other 98% that I was madly in love with and gave it a five star. That being said I hope the next heroine doesn’t get jacked just sayin’!
Chace had to grow on me, the first few times he and Faye interact isn’t pretty, “I have and you’ll know I have when I say Miz Goodknight, I do not want your concern. I don’t want your listening ear. I don’t want your company. What I want is for you to walk you fat a** up the trail and leave me the eff alone.” I mean he’s like really rude, “you, takin’ a walk alone in the dark of night in a town full of bikers who like to get drunk, rowdy and laid doin’ it with your ear phones in and music so loud you couldn’t hear someone approach even if he was wearin’ a effin’ cowbell.” Faye that girl may not seem to have a backbone but she really does and when she needs to be she’s feisty, and she sometimes just blurts random things out which amused me, “you’re beautiful, a good kisser, this is our first date, my bed is in the room, I’m nervous as all heck and I just thought I was going to die choking after spitting out gum so no, I’m not all right.” Chace can be crude, at the most inconvenient times, “Faye, bein’ real my d*** is still inside you,” he reminded me. “This is not only s*** we can talk about. It’s s*** we have to talk about.” I liked this book but not as much as the others I’ve read by Kristen.
Faye was a girl after my own heart with her geekiness. And Chace, even with his jerk moments, just made my heart melt into a puddle of goo every time he opened himself up a little more to share the light with Faye.
This book blew me away on so many levels, I can’t even find the words to express my feelings on how much I. loved. this. book.
I don’t know why I love Kristen Ashley, but I read her stuff like it’s a bowl of buttered popcorn when I’m at the movie theater, which is to say gracelessly and in great, animalistic mouthfuls. The writing has huge problems imo… and I honestly don’t care, which I cannot say about any other works I read. None. Maybe it’s because her heroines are funny and unsure of themselves and bravely establishing their independence anyway. Her heros are unrepentant sexist alphas, and still everything – everything! – is fabulous. KA will always have a home in my re-reads repertoire!
I just have this urge to grab Kristen Ashley’s hands and said, please let Chace be a liiiiiittle bit meaner to Faye! Just a weee bit, and I’d definitely going to give this book five stars.
Just like Rock Chick Regret, I love it when the heroine got hurt because of the Hero. I just loved the guilty-feeling Hero and trying-to-make-amends Hero. This book, I squealed with delight when Chace hurt Faye’s feeling with his harsh lines, and not to mention the ‘kiss gone wrong’ thingy. But I think he apologized too soon. I want to read more drama! Hahahah. 😀
But overall I enjoyed this book so much and I definitely going to finish this series.
