Paige Carson is a rookie FBI agent whose on-the-job mistake brings her to the attention of serial killer Todd Thames. When a postcard arrives at Paige’s NYC home, Paige is convinced it is from Thames, but none of her colleagues believe her. Afraid for her life and that of her younger sister, Paige moves them to Denver, where a year later, another postcard arrives while Thames is in jail waiting for his conviction to be overturned. Does Paige turn to her FBI colleagues for help? Of course not! She’s already decided that they will not believe her and that she cannot trust anyone.
Terrified and on the run again, Paige transfers to a small FBI office in rural South Carolina under the command of handsome SAC Sam McKade.
I did not like this book. In fact, I couldn’t even finish it. I stopped around the 25% mark where Sam “just wants to hold” Paige and she basically runs out of his house. I found Paige’s character to be both shallow and wimpy. Paige’s fear of Thames is entirely over-the-top and totally unrealistic. After all, she is an FBI agent and top marksmen. There was no suspense and the romance between Paige and Sam is pretty lame. Seriously, I cannot understand why any man would find aloof, secretive, wimpy Paige attractive. If you are a fan of damsel-in-distress type books, this one’s for you. If you are expecting a suspenseful thrill ride with well-developed characters and a decent romance, you will be very disappointed.
This was amazing. A wonderful book with a really great audio book. I didn’t want to put it down, instead I wanted to keep coming back and listening to more despite the fact that audio books are my ‘for when I’m coding’ items. Legit finished it off tonight far after my work hours were over!
Exciting read!!
This was my first book by Karen. I gave this book four stars as it kept me on my toes. The characters were like-able and people you wanted to root for. I wish there was a bit more story to developing the relationship between Paige and Sam though. It just seemed like one day, they were together without much talk about it – especially since he was her boss. She weaved a good story with twists. I look forward to reading the next one 🙂
Paige is a FBI agent with a target on her back, both from her fellow agents and a serial killer. Paige learns the hard way, the FBI works as a team, and a rogue agent isn’t look upon with much respect. Paige is transferred from the NYC office to Denver, and the eventually to a small FBI post in rural South Carolina. Paige is trying her best to stay off the radar, but it appears the serial killer is sending her messages. Her new boss, Agent Sam McKade, instantly is fond of Paige, and does not find her to be a “Hot Shot” agent, no matter what her file may say. He finds her attractive and both a good agent and person. These two connect on a personal level and begin an affair, even though they both know it is not wise to mix business with pleasure, Boss./employee relationships rarely work without complications. What is even more complicated, is that a local murder seems to be tied to the serial killer case and the killer wants revenge on Paige. Be aware, some of the actions of this wrapped “animal” are hard to read, and very graphic.
This book is an absolute DNF…not really what I am in the mood for.
