My name is Larkspur, and I am an Elemental.
My people use the power of the earth to sustain life and defy our enemies. I should be at my father’s side as a royal princess. But as a half-breed, bastard child, that isn’t going to happen.
As an Ender, one of my father’s Elite guards, it’s my job to do as I’m told. When my older sister is sent as an ambassador to the realm of the water elementals … the water elementals — the Deep — I have no choice but to accompany her as her bodyguard.
With the death of the water elemental’s King, a deadly battle for the throne begins; a battle we are forced to choose sides in.
There are only a few things I know for sure. The ocean may be beautiful, but lurking in its depths are monsters to fear, the water I tread is teaming with danger and I am on my own.
With no one to help, and no one to trust, I have to find a way to keep my sister safe, and stop a civil war.
But the secrets within the Deep are far darker than any of us realized.
Welcome… welcome to the Deep.

This book is so good. I found it hard to put down. I loved this story of Lark and Bella visiting the Deep. There was non stop action, lots of character development and the introduction of some new friends!!! I’ve already downloaded book 3 and am starting it straight away…binge reading at its best!!!
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, but Shannon Mayer is a brilliant author. Her characters are always well thought out and her worlds are intricately detailed. Just when you think you know where the plot will lead, she throws a wrench in and makes you even more invested in what could happen next. I’ve totally read these out of order, yet I don’t know how much of a difference it makes. I know how it will end; yet I still don’t know what will come along the way.
Lark is so naïve and innocent in this dark and ominous Elementals series. I hate seeing her struggle through the emotional rollercoaster, but it’s a path you know she must take to become who she was destined to become. She’s easily one of those characters you want to bundle up and keep safe & protected, but you just can’t. She is inspiring in her high values of truth, honor, and valor in a time where it’s so very easy not to. In true second-book-in-a-three-book-series fashion, there’s still a lot of build up to the final battle to come with Cassava. Though I know it will be ugly, I need to know the final pieces to the puzzle in Lark’s life to see how destiny molds her into who she is to become.

Breakwater: The Elemental Series #2
After removing Cassava’s ring that controlled all but her, and freeing most of her people, Lark is sent to take her trials to see if she can become a full Ender! Ash is the only full Ender left so he needs help and they to train up more Ender’s asap. After she’s finished she hears her tester stopping Magma, the Ambassador from the Pit, demanding she face trial for the Ender’s she had killed while trying get then escape, to rescue the eternal flame to save everyone from the lung burrowers in her home!!
The King, to ‘save’ her, immediately sends her on a mission with Belladonna to the Undine at the Deep. They are to find out which Heir deserves their support & hopefully find their missing Ambassador! It seems simple enough but Ash tells her things aren’t so simple & the King has warned Bella much the same. They aren’t to interfere while they’re there & Lark is to protect the Princess Ambassador at ALL costs!! Surprisingly the girls start to get along, Lark gets glimpses of the abuse Bella suffered at her Mother’s hand, it makes it easier to forgive her. When it becomes obvious their lives are on the line, in more ways than one, & Lark repeatedly saves Bella, it seems their trust is mostly regrown.
This book was bleak, Requiem, the bastard son, was evil & vicious! He wants to murder his 10 yr old sister, the rightful heir & had threatened, brutalized & killed any who stood against him! The half sisters were in his sights to wed & bed against their will because he could! A small band of people working together might save them all, well with the help of a cat, a kraken & Griffin claw!!

It is a continuation in a series of books. I enjoyed it. Was kept entertained all through the book as it is well written.
I really enjoyed Breakwater. The action kept me in suspense. I love when Lark and Ash work together! I am so happy with the outcome of Lark and Belladonna’s relationship. I am eager to see where Lark ends up next.
Wow! Great! Lark’s second name should be Trouble because wherever she goes there is trouble waiting for her. Loved this book, loved to see Larkspur getting stronger with her abilities and power and how she cares about her people – family and friends. Straight to the next installment of this amazing series!
