THE IMPOSSIBLE reveals prayer’s immediate and powerful impact through the true account of a family whose son died and was miraculously resurrected. Through the years and the struggles, when life seemed more about hurt and loss than hope and mercy, God was positioning the Smiths for something extraordinary-the death and resurrection of their son. When Joyce Smith’s fourteen-year-old son John fell … Joyce Smith’s fourteen-year-old son John fell through an icy Missouri lake one winter morning, she and her family had seemingly lost everything. At the hospital, John lay lifeless for more than sixty minutes. But Joyce was not ready to give up on her son. She mustered all her faith and strength into one force and cried out to God in a loud voice to save him.
Miraculously, her son’s heart immediately started beating again.
In the coming days, John would defy every expert, every case history, and every scientific prediction. Sixteen days after falling through the ice and being clinically dead for an hour, he walked out of the hospital under his own power, completely healed.
THE IMPOSSIBLE is about a profound truth: prayer really does work. God uses it to remind us that He is always with us, and when we combine it with unshakable faith, nothing is impossible.more
This is one of those books I literally could not put aside. I read it late into the night, from start to finish. No book of fiction could possibly have as many unusual twists and turns as this true story. The mother’s faith and determination in the face of medical logic and the well_meaning but negative advice of acquaintances, was gripping. I was moved to tears many times. It is one of the best books I have read in over a year.
I really enjoyed this book. It was very well-written and a powerful story. I typically like true stories as the truth of it brings more impact into it, but maybe that’s just me! I’ll also say that I while I believe in God, I don’t consider myself “religious” and have a very down-to-earth view of God. With that said, the divine intervention and miracles aspects of the story aren’t something I’m inclined to accept. I point this out for a reason. You don’t have to be a religious zealot or someone seeking miracles to enjoy this book. The real-world story of all this family and those around them and all that they went through are compelling and captivating. Definitely worth the read and glad I read it!
Wonderful story.
I’m a true story addict and this fit the bill. Very interesting spiritual story.
Page turner, shows the power of prayer!!!
The book is better than the movie.
An interesting story of a boy who drowned and was submerged in freezing water. The doctor in the ER was on the verge of declaring him dead when the boy’s mother arrived and called on God to return him to her. His heart started to beat again and he eventually made a full recovery.
Hard to put it down.
Very well written. Enjoyed reading it.
This is a unique of a mother’s faith! I enjoyed from beginning to end!
Shows strongly how powerful prayer is and we can always depend on our faithful God.
Read the book before I saw the movie … movie great but the book story is phenomenal. She tells the story with emotion and holds nothing back.
Really enjoyed it and telling others they need to read it as well.
Best book I’ve read in a long time. It’s easy to read and quick. And, I am not a fast reader. Looking forward to seeing the movie.
This was a very inspirational read.
Great read!
I loved this book. It was so well written that it was hard to put down. The characters came alive on the page, creating a faith-filled, inspirational story. I am so glad I read the book before seeing the movie as I am sure the book’s many layers can’t be depicted on the screen.
This account of the real-life drowning and resurrection of 14-yr-old John Smith showed the power of the prayers of a faithful and resolute mother. The entire account is factual and miraculous! This is a must-read for every believer!
This is an inspirational book and a great reminder of what a powerful God we serve. It is a bit predictable. Easy read.
What an amazing book. The mother can almost aggravate you at times then I remember back to when my mother was younger and how she was every bit as tenacious as the mother in the book. Waiting on the movie which should be out Wednesday the 17th.
Loved this book! The way faith helped this family, community, friends and care givers was amazing. The Lord reached so many people through this young man. The book explained struggles the family went through and the joy when the Lord provided healing.
