From NYT bestselling author Carrie Ann Ryan, comes a brand new series where second chances don’t come often, and overcoming an unexpected loss means breaking everything you knew.Violet Knight fell for Cameron at the wrong time. And when he left, she thought her life was over. But then, after the worst happened, she truly understood what that phrase meant. Now, he’s not ready for a second chance, … second chance, and she’s not offering one. Though given that their families have been forced together after losing one of their own, she knows there’s no turning back. Not this time. Not again. Not when it comes to Cameron.
Cameron Connolly never wanted to hurt Violet, but there were reasons he had to leave all those years ago—not that she’d believe him if he told her what they were. He not only left her, he also left his foster brothers. Honestly, Cam didn’t want to come back to Denver to help run his father’s failing brewery. But when it comes to his brothers, he knows he’ll find a way to make it work. Perhaps he’ll even earn Violet’s forgiveness and face the connection they both thought long forgotten in the process. Because he wanted her then, but now he knows he needs her. He just hope she needs me.

I adored this second chance romance from the amazing Carrie Ann Ryan! It’s emotional and the beginning to an awesome new series!
Breaking without you is the first book in the brand new fractured connections series!! This is Violet and Cameron’s story and it is their second chance at happily ever after. Violet and Cameron were high school and college sweethearts until he left her. Years later Cameron returns in the wake of a friend death. When Cameron left he not only destroyed his relationship with violet, but fractured his relationship with his brothers. Now that he’s back will he be able to mend his fractured relationships. This book was so good, I loved that this book not only focuses on Cameron’s relationship with Violet, but his relationship with his family. This books was a very emotional read but Carrie Ann Ryan wrote it perfectly! I can’t wait for the rest of the series!!
This book is so great! I love the fact that the author doesn’t gloss over the tough themes or situations. There is a realism throughout the whole book. I find that to be the most honest and endearing thing about Carrie Ann Ryan’s writing. There is no “Fake” or “Cookie Cutter” themes or resolutions to situations. They are real, they evoke true emotions, even when it is hard.
Clearly she has done it again! As long as Carrie Ann Ryan is writing, I will be reading her books!!!!
This was an emotional story, I’m not going to lie. Definitely more emotional for me because what they are going through I have also been through. So I absolutely understand and relate. At times it felt like it was being taken from my own head, from my own heart, things I’ve felt & thought before. Violet, Sienna & Harmony’s journey is far from over. I look forward to more of their journey, both with each other, and with those they share themselves with. Cameron’s journey was also an intense one, but with the bad comes the good. I look forward to more
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book
I love starting a new series, especially one by a favorite author. Why you ask, because it’s like coming into a new group of friends, but of people that you already know but now you get to really know them and come to love them.
In Breaking Without You we have Violet Knight and we meet Cameron Connolly. Violet we have briefly met before as she is Mace’s sister from Fallen Ink: Montgomery Ink Colorado Springs Book 1.
This story is a heartbreaker for sure, what Violet and her tribe are going through is one of the toughest things a group of friends can go through. Suicide is something that is very prevalent in the world today and when it happens it is awful and when it is someone that is close to you it’s even more devastating.
That is what brings Violet and Cameron into each other’s life’s…….. again.
See not only is this a love story, it’s a second chance love story and those are always good.
The chemistry between them is off the charts, but that was never the problem for them when they were together in college. No the problem was when Cameron just left without a word or reason.
I love that Ryan always gives us true life in her stories. From how Violet and her friends are coping with their grief, to Cameron and his brothers trying to come together again after years apart, to the why of Cameron leaving. All of it is vey real life things that could happen to and does happen to every day people.
Also, what I love about her writing is that if you haven’t read the series that a new series has spun off of it doesn’t matter, you won’t be lost because you can read them as stand alones. A warning though, you won’t want too if you are anything think me you gotta know everything and everyone so like Pokèmon you gotta get them all. Lol
I can’t wait to see more of this series, it’s gonna be a good one.
I love second chance romances with healing and new beginnings and that’s exactly what Breaking Without You is! It’s an emotional read you’re going to love!
Cameron and Violet have a history, one that they can’t just ignore. When a tragic event end up bringing them into each other’s lives again, they have to figure out what they really want and if they can heal what’s been fractured. Cameron felt he had no choice in the past and did what he had to do, Violet was left to wonder what it was that happened and why. The journey that they take you on if full of hurt and grief, but also love and rediscovery of who they themselves are and who they want to be for each other. Breaking Without You is a full ride of emotions and beautifully written. I loved Violet and Cameron.
Emotional and fulfilling!
This wonderful read blends painful, realistic, powerful emotions and heart melting romance. Violet and Cameron’s get there second chance at love in this book. There is some darkness to this book. It deals with the subject of suicide and all the emotional repercussions of it. My heart broke for Violet. She has really been out through the wringer emotionally. I felt really bad for Cameron. He was a great guy, that did the right thing and has to live with that having hurt the people he cares about the most. If you love books that bring it all emotionally, you do not want to miss out on this book.
A beautifully tender book which studies loss, grief and love in a way that is also so very healing. Carrie does not flinch from exploring the immense nature and changing face of grief, nor does she wallow in it. It is a bravely, honestly written book that pulls the strings of your heart, but also holds your hand and reassures you that light can come back into our lives.
The book explores love and friendship on so many different levels, through family, friends, relationships with each other, and the lost relationship. The latter is so important to this story as the friends, particularly Violet, struggle with the realisation that some questions will never be answered.
The book also, successfully, tells a very tender, lovely love story, that of Violet and Cameron, and, I have to say, I want to know more about Beckham!!
Overall, a beautiful, heartfelt read. Xx
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
It was such an emotional book !
Violet + Cameron were in love, and then Cameron just left.
Violet was left to pick up the pieces of her broken heart.
Now Cameron is back.
Will Violet give him a second chance?
Can her heart take it ?
Is what they had before strong enough for a second chance now ?
Loved the characters + the storytelling!
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Wow! This book will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. Be prepared to have tissue ready as it is a tearjerker. We have 3 friends/sisters who have just buried their 4th after she killed herself and are left without answers. We have 3… ok 4… brothers who need to find their way back to each other. Cameron and Violet have a second chance at love but with that second chance comes baggage. I enjoyed their journey and cannot wait to see what happens next between these friends.
What an emotional read. Carrie you have done it again, I seriously don’t know how it is that you are still, after so many books able to come up with these unique and wonderful stories.
Breaking Without You is book 1 in Carrie Ann Ryan’s Fractured Connection Series which is apart of The Montgomery world but like the rest of Carrie’s book can be read as a stand-alone. This book follows Violet Knight the sister to Mace Knight from Fallen Ink and Cameron Connolly.
This book is full of raw heartache emotions. Violet with her sister Sienna and friend Harmony are left to deal with the loss of their best friend Allison who is dead. Allison is not a character in the book that you will get to actually meet but she is spoken about a lot in the story. The aftermath of finding your best friend dead, having you ex boyfriend show up after 7 years and her ex husband and new wife is more than anyone should have to deal with.
Coming back home to help build up a failing brewery was not something that Cameron thought he would have to do. But coming home to do just that may be the best thing he could do to help build his bond with his brothers Aiden and Brendon and to get his girl back. But it’s not going to be easy when the Connolly brothers can’t agree on what needs to be done to keep the Connolly Brewery from shutting down.
“Breaking Without You”, the first book in Carrie Ann Ryan’s newest series, is a novel full of second chances and reconnections. It’s a story about those left behind, about happens after a loss.
The book opens with a funeral of a mutual friend of all the central characters, the funeral of a woman who committed suicide, and it just get more emotional from there.
This book was…different. Very emotional, very raw. The first person POV (which is different from all the other Carrie Ann Ryan books I’ve read) inserts the reader into the head of the character, maybe a little too much. I found the repetition of language a little tiresome, though completely realistic, especially considering the emotional tumult the characters were going through. I have to admit that it took me a bit longer to read this one — I usually binge and read her books in one sitting — but this was a little too much to take in in one sitting.
Definitely more angsty than my usual reads, it had more of an NA feel even though the characters were in their late 20s. There was just a lot going on with everyone (divorce! death! reunions! career issues!) I like it but wow. Yeah, lots to unpack here, which isn’t a bad thing at all. It was just a lot, but it also provides a really nice set up for the rest of the books in the series. I’m looking forward to seeing how all the different characters work through their grief and deal with all the other stressors they have in their lives.
Bottom line, Breaking Without Youis a must read if you want All The Feels
New Emotional Second Chance Romance.
Oh my this story is not a standard second chance HEA that I’m used to. I mean we have heartbreak, tears, tragedy and love at the end off it all.
MC’s are two damaged souls that had been through hell and back in order to find peace and happiness. This story is not a happy one with everything that happened to Cameron and Violet and it was hard to read how much struggling was necessary to reach a place to be and feel happy. But they managed to find the balance between sorrow and love for them to have the HEA they deserved.
I have a feeling this series will be a great one. Looking forward to the next one in line.

Loved it!! Love how they had to work at their relationship. It goes full circle. You could feel their connection. I just wanted to be part of their story!! I cant wait for more!!
Violet found her best friends body when she went to her house but there wasn’t a note to say why she took her own life. At the funnel the Connolly brother came to show their respect for Alison. Violet just wants to know why! What did she miss with her friend, Cameron walked away from Violet & now he’s back. He broke Violets heart, so they both have to learn to trust again.
This book is beautiful written by Carrie Ann, about heart break, lost, love & family!
I both loved and hated this book. I loved it because it is so real. Having had people in my life suffer depression, having lived through the turmoil after, having asked the same questions of what could I have done. Reading a book bring these real issues to light in a realistic way soothes an ache in my heart. I hated it because it brings back those memories, but even that I have to love because sometimes we go too long trying to push away the pain instead of remembering the good things that made those people so loved.
Violet Knight is desperately trying to come to some understanding of what happened to her friend Allison. She feels like there must be something she missed, or was to busy to notice the cry for help. Now as she attends her friends funeral and wake it becomes a reality that she and her two other best friends must learn their new dynamic as a group of three instead of four.
Cameron Connelly took off seven years ago and left his brothers, foster parents, and girlfriend behind. He was left raising his younger brother and running a bar in California until his foster fathers death called him home. Now he and his brothers must learn to trust each other again if they want the bar to survive.
This book captured my attention from page one with the heart breaking first chapter to then opening of old wounds. Violet and Cameron had me on an emotional rollercoaster, however I couldn’t help but root for them. Violet is so hurt and lost in the book, however she knows how she felt about Cameron and when he asked for forgiveness and apologized for how he left years ago, she is able to open herself up to the possibility of them again. Cameron and Violet are a safe place for each other and they need to just remember they are not alone. Loved the story, feels and all!
