From NYT bestselling author Carrie Ann Ryan, comes a brand new series where second chances don’t come often, and overcoming an unexpected loss means breaking everything you knew.Violet Knight fell for Cameron at the wrong time. And when he left, she thought her life was over. But then, after the worst happened, she truly understood what that phrase meant. Now, he’s not ready for a second chance, … second chance, and she’s not offering one. Though given that their families have been forced together after losing one of their own, she knows there’s no turning back. Not this time. Not again. Not when it comes to Cameron.
Cameron Connolly never wanted to hurt Violet, but there were reasons he had to leave all those years ago—not that she’d believe him if he told her what they were. He not only left her, he also left his foster brothers. Honestly, Cam didn’t want to come back to Denver to help run his father’s failing brewery. But when it comes to his brothers, he knows he’ll find a way to make it work. Perhaps he’ll even earn Violet’s forgiveness and face the connection they both thought long forgotten in the process. Because he wanted her then, but now he knows he needs her. He just hope she needs me.

New Emotional Second Chance Romance!
This book is just overflowing with emotion. Violet’s world has been turned upside down with unbearable grief. Everything has been thrown at her at once. I can so relate to her turbulent emotions. She’s a strong character that just tears at your heartstrings.
Cameron’s life is also in a tailspin. His family dynamic is very unusual. He and Violet were high school and college sweethearts.
This is a second chance romance that is so much more than that. This is the most realistically and honestly written book that I’ve ever read! The writing is incredible and written from the heart. You won’t regret reading this book
Another awesome book. It is very well written. Love the story between Cameron and Violet. Can they find love again after he broke her heart many years ago. A must read. Ms. Ryan doesn’t disappoint with this book. Can’t wait for the next one. Which Brother will be next?
This author always seems to fill the void for a minute when looking for something to sail me away. No matter the genre it seems to end up filling that void. This one was no exception with it also being a beginning to a promising new series. The delight also in this one is that second chance that enters in with you holding on to see if it will be taken. Cameron and Violet do not look at each other as they once did but love is something not buried it must thrive. The denial they put on is what makes you chuckle a bit because the hiding will not last when emotions run deep. With him also having his hands full it pulls the reader in fast and deep. Violet also is deep in emotions for various reasons but love can find a way to heal and put it all back together again in a new one.
Breaking Without You was an amazing story that had tears flowing. This story really hit home and I am so glad I got to read it. The characters are all interesting and I can’t wait to read everyone else’s story! Love this new series.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It has a different tone than the rest of Carrie Ann Ryan’s stories. It is more somber and so in that way on the darker side of things. Violet has lost one of her best friends to suicide and she doesn’t understand why. She is dealing with the grief and loss of it along with all the questions of why and how did I not see it. All of the friends are suffering and it brings them back in close contact with the Connolly brothers who are also hurting and dealing with hard things. This book focuses on that and how even in the midst of everything, love still finds a way. It might not be easy and it might be hard to see at times, but it’s there. I enjoyed the story and the way it was written but it is not a light-hearted story. The characters are struggling and there isn’t really an easy way out. This story was real and absolutely something that I think people can relate to. It was really well done and I’m excited to get the others stories and figure out what’s going on with them and see them come out the other side. This book held my attention from beginning to end. Once I started, I wanted to find out more about the characters and then were rooting for them to find their happy ending.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
What a wonderful new book from Carrie Ann Ryan. This story of heartbreak and loss and second chances revolves around Violet and Cameron and the family that surrounds the two of them. As with most all of the books from this author, the characters are connected to other books/series but can all be read as standalones. Violet is the sister of Mace from Fallen Ink. This book takes us on the journey of a loss so great and learning how to live with that loss and learning how to forgive and love again. These characters are so real that you feel what they feel as they experience all of the emotions and this story can hit home for any of us readers. Well done and I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
First of all, I LOVE the covers for the Fractured Connections series. Also, I was highly anticipating reading about Mace’s sisters because I absolutely loved Mace and Adrienne’s story, and I was eager to read more about his sisters and their HEAs.
That being said, the chemistry and connection between Violet and Cameron didn’t work well for me. I wasn’t really feeling it, and I wasn’t very invested in their story. What I was invested in was the Connolly brothers as they struggled to work together and rebuild their relationships with one another.
I am still looking forward to the next books in the series.

Holy cow can Carrie Ann write!!! I’ve always loved how well written her stories are, but this one has a SUPER hard subject and she did it SO WELL!
These friends are dealing with a crippling loss when we are introduced to everyone, and you truly get to feel their feelings as they deal with it. Violet had gone through so much between this and her stupid ex that it was almost a little refreshing to see someone who wasn’t completely put together. Really all three women were working on putting themselves together, but since this was Violet’s book we got to see hers up close. I loved that. I also loved adding in Cameron, the one who disappeared.
From the time that Violet awkwardly see Cameron again I knew they had the best story. There was so much untold between them, and I knew it’d be such a ride finding out what happened there. Their love was the best roller coaster. We truly got the best seat as they talked through, sexed through and repaired their relationship. I also loved how she really used the word Fractured in this book. Both Violet and Cameron had many fractures that they needed to repair. It was so amazing watch them repair too.
Now we have to talk about everyone else. I LOVED these girls so much, Harmony and Sienna were so great, and I loved the addition of the Connolly brothers, Aiden, Brendon and even Dillon. It was so mesmerizing to watch when the group got together, and I especially loved Dillon’s quirks. Watching the girls come to grips with their new lives, and the brothers do the same. It was so special. I cannot wait to read these next books and go on their roller coasters too
Breaking Without You has left me utterly speechless. In my opinion it is one of the best books that I have read this year. Carrie Ann Ryan has written a masterpiece. A must read for all book lovers.
Breaking Without You is the emotional and deep beginning to a brand new series, Fractured Connections by Carrie Ann Ryan.
Violet Knight is living through one of the hardest events of her life. Losing her best friend has left Violet with many unanswered questions and feeling empty and numb. For the second time in her life, Violet feels as if she’s broken. On the day of the funeral she (literally) runs into the man that caused her first heartbreak. Seeing Cameron caused a flood of emotions she was unprepared for, and hits her like a bomb. Now how to pick up the pieces and move on……..
Cameron Connolly has a past that most people never to want to think about let alone imagine. He had an addict for her mother, was moved around to foster homes being separated from his brother until a wonderful couple not only open their house but their hearts changing the lives of not just one but young men’s lives. Giving them a family made deeper than blood, made on love. Cameron’s loyalty and dedication to family caused him to make s decision that intern hurt many people he loves. Now back in Denver, Cameron takes tries to fix the fractures that have cracked his life.
Cameron is amazing. Hands down. He made choices that cost him, but in reality they also show the kind of man his is. He tries so hard to rebuild the relationships that have suffered. Cameron never lost his love for Violet and that makes me smile. He’s a dedicated, loyal and so compassionate. Violet is so strong and doesn’t even realize it. Her would keeps throwing curveballs at her and she keeps getting up and going. Even though at times it may not seem like that. Heartache is just as bad as any physical pain and we see Violet going through it all. Cameron and Violet never lost their love for each other but the heart is finicky when it gets broken. Communication is always the key, and at times the keys got lost for Cameron and Violet. Their chemistry was amazing and passion was heart touching. They just had to find their way back home to each other.
Breaking Without You is unlike anything Ms. Ryan has given her readers. There is so much emotion throughout the book it’s so hard not to get lost in all the feelings. Loss is a touchy subject to begin with, then add in all the unanswered questions, the raw emotions and the guilt. That’s a emotional bomb just waiting to go off. Violet loses her best friend to suicide which puts her in a state of unknown, and I must applaud Ms. Ryan for her elegance and grace on handling the subject. The roller coaster of emotions, the bouncing between being fine and being at the end of the string. Ms.Ryan hit the nail on the head so to speak, with the beautiful way she delivers Violet grief.
Breaking Without You, the first book of the Fractured Connections series is everything I have to love for Ms. Ryan and more. Grab some tissue ladies, you just might be needing it for this one.
Fractured Connections #1, This book is an emotional suckerpunch to your gut. It’s good, so well written but emotionally heavy. It took me about twice along to read it as her normal books because I had to keep taking breaks. It is a sad book but it’s all about moving on after the death of a loved one and that there is hope and life afterwards and in the case of Violet and Cam a HEA.
The same day she buries her best friend the boyfriend who broke her heart walks back into her life. Cam walked away from his family and the girl he loved. He never meant to hurt them or stay gone for so long but now he’s back and trying to mend things with his brothers and hopefully with Violet. Violet thought she had moved on from Cam she even married and divorced but Cam came back different from when he left and now she’s falling for the man he grew up to be.
Overall, this was an emotionally heavy book with a hopeful outlook and it was a great introduction to the series and it’s characters.
Breaking Without You is Book #1 in the new Fractured Connections series. This book definitely starts off with a ton of emotion that is very beautifully written. This is a wonderful second chance romance that lives up to the high standards that is Carrie Ann Ryan’s work. I loved it.
Oh my gosh this story completely had me emotional from the first paragraph. Violet and Cameron’s story is emotional on more than just as a couple. I truly enjoyed reading their story and how they were in past as as they became a couple again. The subject that is within this book isn’t a easy subject but the details are not described but more the what happens to everyone after as they adjust and man doesn’t Violet have a lot to work out as well as Cameron but the end is truly a HEA. Carrie Ann has written such a emotional read I had tears at points and laughter at others and all in between. Absolutely enjoyed this one even though it is a difficult read at points.
Received an advance copy from the author.
I really loved Violet and Cameron’s story, they had great chemistry and the story line was very well written. I love that Mace’s sisters get their stories and the Connolly brothers are great. Can’t wait for the next book.
4.5 Stars
This is a great start to a new series. It is not a light, happy read. It is a read that is heavy with emotion but it is real. It is real people who have made real mistakes and have suffered loss and have to figure out how to heal and move on. Cannot wait for the next book.
Love Cameron and Violets amazing addicting beautiful intense forbidden 2nd chance love story.so ready for more
The beginning of book is absolutely heartbreaking! There is so much emotion spilling out all over everywhere, I just couldn’t contain myself. I think I cried through the first third of the book. There was so much hurt, so much anger, and so many unresolved feelings, I could literally feel it myself. This had to be the most emotional book that I’ve read this year. I really feel like it broke me apart, before putting me back together.
Violet just lost one of her best friends, with no explanations. On top of the emotions she is dealing with from that, the ex that broke her heart is back in town. She built her life back after he left her behind, but she doesn’t know if she will ever be able to forgive his desertion. Cameron’s life has been one disaster after another. His unstable mother lost him and his twin to the foster care system, and then they were separated. After eventually being reunited and adopted, his mother once again turns his life upside down, causing him to loose his family and the girl who holds his heart. When he returns home to Denver, intending to save his family’s business, they are thrown together, and old feelings rise to the surface.
This book was so emotional, I don’t think I will ever forget the way it made me feel. It’s an amazing story, that brings out a true response from the reader. I can honestly say, my heart will never be the same after reading this book. If you love a book that hits you in the feelings (like I do!) this is one that you will definitely enjoy. But have the tissues handy, because you will definitely need them!
Violet and her best friends are going through a tragedy. They are so supportive and comforting to one another. Through the tragedy and healing, the ladies rediscover high school friends, the Connolly brothers, one of which is Violet’s old flame.
The men are going through a tragedy of sorts themselves and trying to learn a new normal. The men are learning how to be brothers again – even adding one they didn’t know they had!
I loved the story of healing and love and friendship. The characters are awesome and I look forward to the rest of the series.
Breaking Without You by Carrie Ann Ryan is the first book in her Fractured Connections series and the first book I have read of hers. It was a touching and emotional second chance romance. This story was sad and deals with some difficult subjects, but very tactfully. When they lose a friend suddenly and tragically, Violet, Sienna and Harmony are reunited with the Connolly brothers, which is the last thing Violet ever wanted.
Years ago, Cameron Connolly left with no explanation. He left many behind who he loved and loved him, including Violet Knight. It was the hardest decision he has ever made, but there was a reason he did what he did. Violet was left broken hearted after Cameron left and his brothers felt abandoned. I loved Cameron and Violet so much. Cameron had so much on his shoulders and though he wanted to do the right thing, sometimes the right thing for one, hurts another. Violet is so lost and broken, having Cameron back in her life could be the best or worth thing in her life right now.
Breaking Without You by Carrie Ann Ryan is a captivating story about loss, grief, family, friends and second chances. I loved not only Cameron and Violet, but all the characters in this story. This was so much more than a second chance romance.
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
