From NYT bestselling author Carrie Ann Ryan, comes a brand new series where second chances don’t come often, and overcoming an unexpected loss means breaking everything you knew.Violet Knight fell for Cameron at the wrong time. And when he left, she thought her life was over. But then, after the worst happened, she truly understood what that phrase meant. Now, he’s not ready for a second chance, … second chance, and she’s not offering one. Though given that their families have been forced together after losing one of their own, she knows there’s no turning back. Not this time. Not again. Not when it comes to Cameron.
Cameron Connolly never wanted to hurt Violet, but there were reasons he had to leave all those years ago—not that she’d believe him if he told her what they were. He not only left her, he also left his foster brothers. Honestly, Cam didn’t want to come back to Denver to help run his father’s failing brewery. But when it comes to his brothers, he knows he’ll find a way to make it work. Perhaps he’ll even earn Violet’s forgiveness and face the connection they both thought long forgotten in the process. Because he wanted her then, but now he knows he needs her. He just hope she needs me.

This is a new series by Carrie Ann Ryan, but it takes place in the Montgomery Ink world, which is a good way to start. The Montgomery’s are such wonderful characters and I found myself curious about the new in-laws. This is an in-law series. We met Violet in Fallen Ink, book 1 of Montgomery Ink, Colorado Springs. She’s Adrienne Montgomery’s sister in law, Mace’s sister. This series, and this book, in particular, comes with disclaimers and warnings of triggers. I admit that if it were written by anyone else, I might not have read it. It’s the Fractured Connection series and it deals with a group of people, a group of friends, that come back together because of the death of one of them.
Violet is dealing with a lot. Allison was her best friend and she committed suicide. She deals with the familiar feelings: what did I miss? I should have done more. And on top of it, at Allison’s funeral and burial, she comes face to face with her lost love, the one that walked away. Cameron had a rough upbringing and he left town, leaving his new life and family/friends behind. He had a good reason, but he didn’t bother to tell Violet.
Now Cameron is back in town to try to keep his adoptive father’s brewery and bar operating after his death. He’s dealing with all he’s left behind, including Violet and his adoptive brothers, none of whom took his departure well. And he returned with a new biological half brother that his adoptive brothers didn’t know about.
With so much going on in their lives, they are still drawn to each other. Violet doesn’t want to be. She was hurt when he left. This is a sweet story of them renewing their friendship and then their love for each other against the backdrop of chaos. It had me questioning a lot. I’ve, fortunately, not had to deal with the suicide of a close friend, so cannot imagine what Violet might be feeling. She felt so much guilt, I didn’t know how she was going to give Cameron another chance. And Cameron was dealing with his own guilt and anger towards his brothers. There were so many emotions flying over the pages of this book. My heart and mind were so full. This was a powerful story, and it was dealt with beautifully by the author. A very well earned HEA for the two of them.
And as usual, we meet more characters in their journey that we want to learn more about. The rest of this series is about the others in their circle of friends and I can’t wait to read it.
Overflowing with all the feels! With the first book in her new Fractured Connections series, Carrie Ann Ryan digs deep and shares an emotional journey of loss, grief and forgiveness. The start of the book is attention grabbing, and once we get to meet all of the core characters we are entrenched in what will become of them all. Fairly well developed characters and lots of emotions. I enjoyed it and look forward to the next in the series!
Cameron Connolly thought he was doing the right thing all those years ago when he walked out without a word on the love of his life and his family, but now that he’s facing the hurt he caused, he’s realizing just how much damage he left behind. Now back in Denver trying to save the bar his parents put their heart and soul into with his brothers, he’s faced with making amends and picking up the pieces.
Violet Knight always wondered what it would be like to see the man who yanked her heart out and stomped on it again, but she never expected it to come at such a devastating time in her life. She’s coping with the loss of her best friend, and the emotions he brings to the surface at a time when she’s already raw just might do her in. Can she allow herself to forgive him if it means having him to lean on now?
Over the last year I have become quiet a fan of Carrie Ann Ryan’s work. This one is slightly different then her usual romances. She brought out the big guns with all the feels with this one. She weaved the tale brilliantly with the raw emotional seeping off the pages and into your veins. You feel everything reading this.
This is a beautiful tale of second chances, friendships, heartbreak, love, grief, guilt, acceptance and healing.
Violet is reeling from the unexpected death of her best friend Alison. The pain, guilt and grief Violet goes through is flawlessly written. Violet along with her sister and other friend Harmony are all struggling to understand the whys? why she did it and why they didn’t see any signs.
On the day of the funeral she comes face to face with her ex Cameron Connolly, the boy that broke her heart when he left without a word. Violet is struggling to deal with her grief over Alison but now she has her pain and anger at Cameron to deal with too.
Cameron not only has to face his ex who he never stopped loving but he also has to face his brothers as he left them without a word too. They have all been brought back together to try to save their parents bar after they died. I am seriously intrigued about these boys and they backgrounds. I loved watching their interactions and would love to know more about they pasts.
This was a great start to this new series from Carrie Ann Ryan and it was lovely to see a couple of old favourites from another series make an appearance too.
I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series Harmony and Brendon’s story as I am seriously intrigued about these two.
I loved watching all these relationships rekindle and heal. They have all been through so much
Violet’s story broke my heart. She has had so much turmoil in her life that I cried reading each page. Cameron was not only her first love but the man who broke it into a million pieces. Cameron has his reasons for hurting Violet and knows they will never have what they had before. Their lives are about to be intertwined again and Violet will have to decide if forgiveness is possible.
This beautiful story is about loss, hurt, hope and love. Violet and Cameron will leave a mark on your heart. There is so much to this story, it’s more than a second chance story. I can’t wait more from this wonderful series.
This book was… I don’t have the words to describe how I feel other than; it was a beautifully written story with different emotions on every page. Breaking Without You is the first book in new series by Carrie Ann Ryan, where second chances don’t come often, and overcoming an unexpected loss means breaking everything you knew. We get a new set of brothers (The Connolly) in this series and these boys are they going to be a hand full.
Love can find you even at the most heartbreaking time of your life. Violet just lost her best friend and Cameron come back to help with the family business, but something just keeps pulling them back to one another. Can explaining the years apart be enough for Violet to forgive Cameron and give him a second chance?
Like all of Carrie Ann’s book, you are going to fall in love with these characters and wait impatiently for the next book.
Usually I’m not a huge fan of second chance romances, but this one! As per usual Carrie Ann Ryan has introduced us to a new cast of characters that I adore.
Violet and Cameron have not had it easy. Their relationship is full of rockiness both past and present. Their lives are filled with hardships and the struggle to find a new footing in their current worlds.
Watching them come back together was amazing. Carrie Ann Ryan takes you on such an emotional roller coaster it’s hard to keep up, but just experiencing it was a gift in and of itself.
So glad I got this book, excited for the next one!
I knew this book was going to be hard to read because of how emotional it was. The series name, Fractured Connections, described the relationship between the main characters perfectly. The book opened in such a way that I was almost tearing up, and I knew it would only grow from there. The emotions that Carrie Ann Ryan is able to convey with words blows me away. She can bring me to tears at the drop of a hat and then remind me why life is worth living in the next paragraph. Violet and Cameron’s story is one that I highly recommend reading, but know that it is a deeply emotional story that will break you a little bit.
Breaking Without You is the start of a new series by. Carrie Ann Ryan. It gives us the story of Violet and Cameron. It’s a second chance romance as well. This book is gripping and deals with a lot of emotions. There’s tragedy and how it reverberates throughout the story.
I loved Violet and Cameron and can’t wait to see what’s to come in this series. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
You’re gonna need tissues – nope more than that.
First off this story had me in absolutely floods of tears that would rival the flood that Noah built an ark for.
Is the storyline an easy read? No, but then again given the entire setting, I wouldn’t expect it to be and I would be disappointed if it was. This book wrenched at the heartstrings and absolutely did a number on my emotions.
Even though the nucleus of the story is so much heartache – I felt every single emotion that Violet felt and I felt every single brick in the wall of life she was trying to rebuild after such a cataclysmic event.
It’s not an easy, happy go lucky read. But it is an amazing one and one that I think needs to be written and needs to be read.
This is one massive emotional clusterf*)k but pass the tissues and hold on to each other because this is gonna be a bumpy ride – but so worth it.
Thank you Carrie Ann Ryan for writing this book. Thank you.
I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book
and finally I have one thing left to say – UNICORNS!!!!
Violet Knight once loved Cameron Connolly, but when he left with no word, she shattered into a million pieces. Violet picked herself up and moved on with the help of her friends and family. When tragedy strikes, Violet and Cameron are thrown into each other’s orbit again. Cameron never meant to cause so much hurt when he left Violet and his family, but he had his reasons for leaving and staying in California. Now Cameron is back to fix his relationship with his brothers, help save his father’s brewery, and explain his reasons for leaving to Violet. Will can Violet and her friends move past the tragedy that they never saw coming? Can Violet forgive Cameron for leaving her all those years ago? Can Violet trust Cameron to not leave her again? Will Violet walk away when her trust in Cameron is tested? Can Cameron make Violet see she is the only woman he has ever loved? Can the Connolly brothers repair their relationship and save their father’s failing brewery? The chemistry between Cameron and Violet is HOT! Loved Breaking Without You by Carrie Ann Ryan! Breaking Without You is an emotional roller coaster ride that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Great characters and a fantastic story that hit close to home for this reader. Carrie Ann Ryan is a MUST read author for this reader. Can’t wait to read the next book in the Fractured Connections series. I received an ARC of this story, and I am leaving my honest review.
Breaking Without is the story of Violet and Cameron. This was such a well written story that tackled many difficult issues. I feel like there were two stories in this book..the story of Violet finding herself again in the face of tragedy and then the story of Violet and Cameron. The story was excellently written and the build up between Cameron and Violet was written so well. I enjoyed all the new characters you met in this book and can not wait to continue the series. It was nice to see the Montgomery’s again as well. Violet and Cameron have a very lovely story and the way the author handled them finding their way back to each other felt very natural. This was a great read and I can’t wait to read more about these circle of friends!
Fracturing at the seams
What a great start to a new series by Carrie! This one is a bit of an emotional roller coaster and focuses on the Connelly brothers and an event which fractures their brotherly bond and also focuses on Sienna, Harmony and Violet when a tragedy close to home brings uncertainty and discord to their lives. The couple that is given the most attention is Cameron and Violet and focuses on their second chance at love and trust issues because of how Cameron left years ago….with no closure!
This story is really intriguing how it looks at those questions which go unanswered in times of tragedy and consequences of actions that you think will have no repercussions but they do especially when those bonds or connections are so badly fractured I look forward to the other characters in this story and unraveling more of the mysteries surrounding them all
Carrie Ann Ryan launches a brand new series with this second chance romance featuring exes to lovers. It’s a story of emotion and healing and not to be missed!
The start of a brand-new emotional, exes-to-lovers series from Carrie Ann Ryan!
This story hit so close to home for me it was almost scary! Losing a best friend is one of the hardest things ever, especially when you are so close.
Breaking Without You is the perfect start to what is going to be yet another amazing series from Carrie Ann Ryan and I can’t wait for the rest!
Carrie Ann Ryan has done it again. What an amazing story!
I have to say, when I first started this book, I wasn’t going to get past Chapter 1. But I kind of forced myself to keep going and I am so glad I did! Earth shattering story of surviving death, divorce and severe migraines. Yes surviving migraines is a real thing!
This second chance love story is bringing the siblings of Mace Knight, from Fallen Ink, into their own world. Violet, Sienna and their friends are part of this seriously heavy series. Dealing with such heartache is hard, but getting your first love back can be even harder! This is the story of Cameron Connolly and Violet Knight, oh how I love them!
I cannot wait for the next book!
I have read a huge amount of Carrie Ann Ryan books and as much as I have loved them, Breaking Without You is the shining light of them all. This story was highly emotional, even sitting here thinking about the book now that I am finished brings tears to my eyes. Cameron and Violet’s story had my heart hurting and my soul weeping. The connection between reader and the characters has a strength like I have never experienced before. I felt the sorrow, heartache, anger and confusion like it was actually me experiencing it. However I also felt the hope, the bond and the love that their story gave us. This book gives you not only an emotional experience like no other but has heat and steam, witty banter and secondary characters that you will fall in love with.
Loved this book from start to finish. It was a very emotional book starting with a group of friends lose their best friend. While struggling with her emotions she ends up in the arms of a long time love Cameron. Loved how all the Connelly brothers developed and can’t wait for more!!! Excellent job Carrie!!!
This story is completely different than others from Carrie Ann. This book deals with death and the mourning that follows. With that in mind, I feel this story was well written for the difficult topics that were covered. Cameron and Violet are a second chance romance story as well. I am intrigued to read about the rest of the Connolly brothers!
This is book 1 of the Fractured Connections series. It is an offshoot series of the Montgomery Ink Colorado Springs series but it is absolutely a stand alone! We just get to have Mace’s sister’s story and I know I have been wanting to know more about his family. This one is about Violet Knight and Cameron Connolly. Let me just start off by saying that this is definitely a story that will hit you hard if you have ever been personally affected by suicide. It doesn’t go into how it happens but more so into the thoughts and feelings of the person (or in this case, people) left behind. And I had the waterworks going on in a lot of this book because it does hit home. That being said, it is still a romance! Violet and Cameron have reconnected after losing one of their best friends. And because of that event, it has afforded them their second chance to have their relationship work. I don’t want to go into a lot of detail because I feel like it will spoil the story. But I absolutely loved it! I read it in less than a day because it was one of those books that once I started it, I couldn’t put it down! And while yes, I did cry a lot while reading it-it also shows the reality of life. And how hard it is to move on and just let yourself be happy. I really can’t wait to see where the other 2 books take us and how those stories go!
