From NYT bestselling author Carrie Ann Ryan, comes a brand new series where second chances don’t come often, and overcoming an unexpected loss means breaking everything you knew.Violet Knight fell for Cameron at the wrong time. And when he left, she thought her life was over. But then, after the worst happened, she truly understood what that phrase meant. Now, he’s not ready for a second chance, … second chance, and she’s not offering one. Though given that their families have been forced together after losing one of their own, she knows there’s no turning back. Not this time. Not again. Not when it comes to Cameron.
Cameron Connolly never wanted to hurt Violet, but there were reasons he had to leave all those years ago—not that she’d believe him if he told her what they were. He not only left her, he also left his foster brothers. Honestly, Cam didn’t want to come back to Denver to help run his father’s failing brewery. But when it comes to his brothers, he knows he’ll find a way to make it work. Perhaps he’ll even earn Violet’s forgiveness and face the connection they both thought long forgotten in the process. Because he wanted her then, but now he knows he needs her. He just hope she needs me.

I fell for Cameron Connolly at the wrong time. And when he left, I thought my life was over. But then, after the worst happened, I truly understood what that phrase meant. Too maudlin – repetitive about suicide
First, I have to tell you guys that I read this story late. My life exploded very unexpectedly a month a go and everything came to a halt. Fast forward to a time I thought I could concentrate on *words* again and this book scared the begeesus out of me. I love this author and I knew the back-story behind this series and honestly, I just thought it was going to be too emotional for me to even read. But I did it anyway …. PEOPLE … this was just beautiful ! Every single moment of this journey was just beautiful and everything that happened occurred organically, not too fast and too slow, it was just real. There were no games between these two and no extra drama for drama … it was life and it just happened beautifully.
There’s a lot of *story* in this book and I think that will be the case with this entire series because these men and women are not just navigating a path to HEA, they’re also navigating a new normal and they’re navigating as a group. The dynamics so far are quite interesting, especially the men, and I hope in future books we get a taste of each of their *pasts* as we did with Cameron. It wasn’t a lot and it didn’t suffocate the *now* of the story. It was just enough to understand the boy and then the man and now the new man …. You’ll understand that a little better once you jump in and join this ride.
I’m ready to dive right into Shouldn’t Have You, I have a feeling it’s going to be a bit more *tragic*, but just as organic as this book!
I love second chances and cant wait for more in this world.

Violet Knight may have you thinking about your own mortality. She shows how w all process things differently. The sad part was watching her put herself down for not seeing what was in front of her. Cameron Connolly has finally decided to own up to certain things. He shows that you can be a sibling whether by birth or by love.
This story is a reminder how sometimes we wear an invisible mask. There are things we don’t want people to see so we hide behind that mask in order to have people see what we want them to. We internalize our issues instead of talking with others. Is it we don’t feel they will understand? Maybe we feel hopeless? Could it be because of our upbringing? Or is it possible that they’ve been let down in the past and don’t feel as if anyone can help?
You would assume that Cameron would have it together but just because you’re a man doesn’t mean you don’t have your own set of issues. And I think that this is part of what drew me to this story. The heart may be an organ but emotions start in our mind and end up coming from the heart. We feel deeply about people close to us. It’s hurts when one of the people in that circle is no longer there. So depending on how emotional you can get, having a box of tissue near at hand may be a good idea.
If you like to have the TV on as you read, or in my case writing a review, be careful what’s playing in the background. I happened to be watching CBS News Sunday Morning and they had a piece on about a choir that came about due to loved ones that had gone missing – made me cry. That piece just added to the emotion that I was feeling as I read this book. One thing that came out in that piece and here in the book is that love can shine even as we experience pain for what we’ve lost. I look forward to seeing where the rest of this series is going to take me.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Where oh where do I begin??? Carrie Ann Ryan takes us on a journey of hurt, loss, devastation, reconnection, acceptance, and forgiveness in this amazing start to the Fractured Connections Series. I for one was in tears numerous times while reading this book and I would venture to guess that most readers were as well.
This book deals with the suicide of Voilet’s best friend, Allison, it was done off page so we don’t witness the downward path that drove her there but what we do see is the devastation left behind. Violet is having an extremely hard time dealing with the fact that she didn’t see her friend was in trouble and needed help. This is something that all loved ones that are left behind have to come to terms with and believe me when I tell you it isn’t easy.
As if things weren’t hard enough for Violet to handle in walks her ex, Cameron, who just up and left town years earlier without a word and left her heartbroken. Cameron and his brothers are trying to save the bar their adoptive father left to them. I really enjoyed this part and look forward to seeing more of the brothers interactions because there was so much animosity with Cameron leaving his brothers behind years earlier but he’s back now and he is hoping to make amends with everyone he hurt, but they have to meet him halfway too and that proves to be more difficult for some than others.
Carrie Ann Ryan is an author that I always recommend and this book is no different, my one suggestion would be to have some tissues nearby because you will need them. Happy Reading!!!
**I have voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book**

This story will pull at your heartstrings and break your heart. Violet and Cameron have both lived through painful events, more painful than anyone should have to experience. This is a story of survival, love and healing. This is a painfully beautiful start to a brand new series by Carrie Ann Ryan, one that you want to pick up today.

I honestly don’t know how to review this book. Objectively it is a great story. The second chance romance was sweet and sexy. My problem is that Violet’s issues hit way too close to home for me and it dragged me down. Break out the tissues and gird your loins and enjoy.
This first book was a very emotional read on how to keep moving forward with a loss that’s questions everything you believed to be true. This group of young ladies have to find a way but then realize life keeps moving forward regardless. Violet has a chance to forgive not just Cameron but Allison (eventually) and grab her HEA … Can she?
A new emotional, second-chance romance from Carrie Ann Ryan
Breaking Without You by Carrie Ann Ryan is the first book in the Fractured Connections series. This is a very emotional read which starts with Violet Knight having to bury one of her best friends who took their own life. We follow along with Violet as she comes to terms with a loss that was unexpected and has thrown her off her chosen path and reintroduced to her first love Cameron Connolly who unceremoniously broker her heart when he left without explanation.
Cameron chose a path which made him estranged from his brother, community and his first love Violet. Back in Denver, he is reintroduced to his brothers whilst trying to balance helping his 18-year-old brother, making his late father’s failing brewery work with the help of his brothers and coming face to face with Violet again after all these years.
This is a second time, slow burn romance between two people who are lost and trying to find themselves whilst everything else seems to fall apart around them. At points, it was an emotional book to read, especially as Violet comes to terms with her friend’s death and how she feels about that as well as her feelings for Cameron which have never gone away.
The book is definitely going to pull at your heartstrings and make you feel all emotional, but you will enjoy it!

This is the 1st book I read by Carrie Ann Ryan. I’m sorry I stopped reading this story at chapter 2 because it was too dark for me.
Great story.
I think they alternate from one viewpoint to another…a chapter from the girl’s perspective and then one from the boy’s. Not my favorite.
Love all of her books
I wouldn’t buy it again, but it was better than reading the cereal box.
The story really showed the trauma of negligent parents and the long lasting consequences of drug and alcohol abuse
