Breaking Traditions: The Shifter And The Mage
By Madilynn Dale
5 out of 5 stars
I loved reading the book Breaking Traditions: The Shifter And The Mage by Madilynn Dale. It is a story that pulled me in from the beginning and I was hooked. I loved reading about the characters of Natalie and Alex. Natalie is a young woman who is a shifter and dreams of operating a bakery. She is intelligent, independent, and kind. She also comes from a family that follows traditions even if what they want is the opposite of what Natalie wants. Alex is a mage who falls for Natalie from the first time that they meet. He finds himself with an unusual bond to her. Will Alex and Natalie be able to break traditions to be together? It seems that there is a lot stacked against them. What does the future hold for Natalie and Alex? Read this book to find out. I love paranormal stories and this book is a good example of the reason why. The author makes the characters come alive. When reading the book, I felt like I was right there with them. There are other additional characters that I loved reading about who are friendly and helpful to both Alex and Natalie. The story has heartwarming moments as well as romantic ones as well. Don’t miss out on an entertaining story that you won’t want to put down until the ending page. I highly recommend reading it.
The concept was great but the droning on about things just to fill pages was a disservice to Ms. Dale’s fans. Giving a second to second read on what was being said and done made for a difficult read. The idea of a shifter and human (even a mage) falling in love but the two communities having a problem harkens back to Romeo and Juliet but with a better ending. Like I said great concept, just needs some paring down of the fill in dialogue.
This was a great story and I enjoyed reading it! The characters are well developed (my pet peeve!) and interesting. The story world was interesting and believable. The writing flowed smoothly along and kept me engrossed in the story. I definitely recommend it for fantasy fans!!
I received a free copy of this book via StoryOrigin and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Natalie is a shifter attending her first year of college. She is a wonderful character.
I enjoyed reading this book…
Breaking Traditions. The Shifter And The Mage. By Madilynn Dale.
A lovely wholesome story. Breaking Traditions is about two people (A Shifter and a Mage) from different walks of life, who society doesn’t want together, with a little bit of magic thrown into the mix., however they have a different perspective. I think the characters are very relatable and people you feel like you would enjoy being around in real life. Madilynn has done a fantastic job with this book I look forward to reading more of her work.
In short, this book is a traditional love story of young love which blossoms and meets the scorn of the elders which is told in a different way in a different world. Natalie is a shape shifter who can transform into a wolf. She belongs to a traditional family who want her to follow the traditions. She is engaged to another shapeshifter, Theo, who is now her ex.
Everything is in order according to Natalie’s parents. Their obedient daughter is bright, helps them in the bakery and is about to be engaged. They want nothing but a happy predictable future for her.
But Natalie’s fate is entwined with a Mage, Alex whom she meets in college. They both meet at a party and sparks fly between them. They are drawn towards each other much to the disdain of Natalie’s parents.
Will Natalie and Alex be able to break traditions for their love? Would they be able to mend the broken relationship with her parents?
This forms the crux of the story. In Eastern culture, we come across this saga a lot more. Breaking the barriers of the society demands a heavy sacrifice. I could relate to the struggle of Natalie and Alex quite easily.
It is a very easy read and keeps the reader engaged till the end. Hope to see more from this author.
Breaking Traditions: The Shifter And The Mage by Madilynn Dale is a sweet paranormal teen love story. Whilst the story is well written, and the plot is good, but it didn’t grab me as well as it could have. It needs more drama or action to give it that something more. The premise is a shifter and has her parents pushing her towards marriage. Alex is a Mage and works his way into her heart but is it enough for the staunch shifter community and where does it all fit with Natalie’s want of a different life?
I found Breaking Traditions a great story. Madilynn Dale has a great mind for detail. Her description paints a beautiful picture that I could see in my mind’s eye. Her characters are fully developed. I found that this story has some twists and turns which enhanced the story. I found myself asking if I could break my family tradition or do what I want to do to be happy. Those is the questions for Natalie. She wants to own her own bakery one day, but her parents want her to be a stay at home mom. She falls in love with Alex, but as a shifter, she needs to follow her traditions. What will Natalie do? Will she follow her heart or her family traditions? I highly recommend this book to find out the answers to these questions and more.
Breaking Traditions: The Shifter and The Mage is an amazing paranormal, romance novel by Madilynn Dale. Natalie wants nothing more than to have her own bakery business but unfortunately, her parents don’t share in her dream. In a perfect world, they would want Natalie to be a perfect stay at home mom. The main issue with that is her parents want her to be with her ex Theo. Natalie struggles to be true to her shifter heritage but also wants to be happy with her life. Then enter Alex, the mage. Natalie’s wolf side feels drawn to Alex, but this of course is against the shifter tradition. Alex begins falling in love with Natalie but feels that she isn’t being truthful with him. I almost felt bad for Natalie as she struggled through her life. She wants to please her family, she wants to live as a shifter, but she also has dreams of her own. Then I felt bad for Alex too because all he wants is to be with Natalie but he feels like there is something getting in the way of them. Throughout the whole novel, I just wanted the two of them to be happy. The author did a wonderful job with both the paranormal aspects of this novel as well as the romantic ones. I definitely recommend reading this book!
This is a lovely supernatural romance bout 2 people from different species falling in love and the obscales they face.
Natalie is a shifter and according to shifter traditions she has to marry a strong shifter with a good job to take care of her. However Natalie has other ideas and when she meets Alex all those traditions don’t exist.
Alex is a Mage. He is a very hard working young man who falls head over heels for Natalie but will that be enough?
Can Natalie and Alex break traditions to be together or will Natalie be forced to stick to dating her own kind? Who says that love knows the different that are between species and should that difference matters when you cant choose who you fall in love with.
Natalie is just starting her college journey at a university for paranormals. She is a wolf shifter and dreams of running her own bakery. She feels an instant connection with Alex at a frat party and is intrigued by him.
As they have their first date, Natalie notices their connection deepen and it reminds her of a mate connection. Problem is her family traditions state mates are of the same species and Alex is a mage.
This was a easy, romantic read with a dash of drama. I loved Natalie and Alex’s dialogue. I also enjoyed how there were different types of paranormals than I normally read about.
Family traditions
I really enjoyed reading Breaking Traditions: The Shifter and The Mage by Madilynn Dale. Natalie, a shifter, is just starting college, getting to know her roommate, and getting used to living in a dorm. She broke off a long term relationship with her ex before college. Early in the semester Natalie meets Alex, a mage, and feels a connection to him she has never experienced before.
Natalie’s family has always followed their shifter traditions. Although Natalie understands her parents expectations, she feels pulled to be an independent woman with different views. A wonderful coming of age type story I couldn’t put down.
3 Stars
Breaking Traditions: The Shifter and The Mage by Madilynn Dale is a paranormal romance with shifters, magic, fantasy, and a little drama. This is the second book of Ms. Dale’s that I have read, and is definitely my favourite (so far).
Natalie comes from a long line of shifters. Her parents hold tight to the long-held traditions of their family and shifter community. They push her to get married and start a family as soon as possible. Natalie has other ideas- she dreams of living her own life, opening her own bakery, and forging her own way. Things get interesting when she meets Mage, Alex, who soon turns her life upside down. Tensions mount when her family discover Alex is a Mage- adding some drama to the story. Can Natalie break the strong traditions of her family/shifter community and follow her heart? Will Alex and Natalie find a way to be together?
A sweet paranormal romance.
Thank you, Madilynn Dale!
Breaking Traditions: The Shifter and the Mage by Madilynn Dale is a wonderful story about forging your own path in life with a paranormal twist. The attention to detail that the author puts into the book is amazing. If you are like me and picture the story in your head, like a movie, you will enjoy this book. The characters were relatable and the story its self was fantastic. I will definitely be adding Madilynn Dale to my must read authors list.
I liked the idea of the story but I struggled with the delivery. There seemed to be too much filler or may be idle story. I don’t need every second of the day nor do I need overlaps of conversations. With that being said the idea was great and I loved it. The two species getting together and her family not wanting to accept him was good. The addition of turmoil was good but I wish there was more. The ending was cute. Overall an ok story. With more character development and a few other changes and it could shine.
Natalie is a shifter who is attending her first year of college. She enjoys making pastries at her parents bakery, although they would like her to be young and do what young people do. Her parents are also steeped in tradition and want her to marry and mate a fellow shifter. Her mother has her heart set on a particular wolf shifter named Theo, who just so happens to be Natalie’s ex.
Alex is a mage who is attending the same college as Natalie. He was raised in a more non-traditional environment and seems to be more open minded when it comes to mates.
Neither of them seem to be outwardly looking for a mate, but fate steps in when they attend the same party. They are drawn to one another, but neither can explain the connection. As they spend more time together, their bond grows stronger. Natalie’s parents discover that she is not only dating, but mated to a mage. Her mother gives her an ultimatum: end the relationship with Alex or be disowned. Of course you can’t help who you love so Natalie opts to stay with Alex thinking that her mother is just bluffing.
Alex wants nothing more than to make his mate happy and have her parents come back and be a part of their lives. Tragedy strikes Natalie’s father and this seems to be the in Alex needs. Will he be able to get them to put the past behind them and accept the relationship? Or will it be too late for Natalie and her parents to make amends?
I enjoyed this paranormal shifter story. It is a story about breaking traditions and doing things your way. This is a well developed story that is engaging and keeps me turning pages. I had no problem connecting to the characters as they brought the story to life. Natalie is a woman who is expected to find her mate and stay home and raise her children but she has something else in mind for her life. When she meets Alex, there is something about him that calls to her but there is a problem. Alex is not part of a traditional family. Will she give her heart to him? He has fallen for her but he is not sure how she feels. What will fate have in store for these two? They are strong characters that make this story easy to read. Their chemistry is awesome and I found myself hoping they would find a way to be together. I highly recommend picking up this book.
