Rule #1 Hands off my best friend’s kid sisterRule #2 See rule number oneRule #3 Seriously, don’t even think about touching EmmaEmma Kane is my new room mate. My very off limits room mate. My gorgeous, sassy, hot as hell room mate.I try to keep my distance. To ignore her soft laugh, her intense eyes, her sweet smile. And that groan, the one she makes over her morning coffee–Alright, the feisty … morning coffee–
Alright, the feisty college student is driving me out of my mind.
I can still keep my hands off her.
I double down on my rules. Draw that line between friends and lovers.
Then she presses her red lips to mine.
And, suddenly, it’s obvious.
There’s no way in hell I can resist her.
From the author: Breaking the Rules is a smoking hot standalone brother’s best friend romance with an alpha hero and a feisty heroine who brings him to his knees. Come see why readers say “no one writes broken bad boys like Crystal Kaswell.”

So this is Emma’s story. She is Brendan’s little sister and has had a crush on her brother’ friend for years but never acted on it. Hunter, Brendan’s best friend has had lots of issues in his life and Brendon is helping him out by letting him stay at his place while he fills in for him at the shop. Emma decides to move home because of her own issues. Will their past experiences keep them from taking advantage of what they both want. The book has great main and secondary characters and is really well written. Crystal Kaswell’s books have a little bit of everything that makes for an enjoyable read.
I voluntarily wrote this review from reading an advanced copy of this book.
Breaking the Rules is a part of The Inked Hearts series and is the story of Emma and Hunter.
Absolutely loved this book! It touches on sexual assault, alcoholism, dysfunction, and the power of love to overcome all. In true Inked Hearts style, there is plenty of hot tattooed men, dirty sex, and sweet romance.
A must read!!!!
I can’t say I loved this book. I was excited to get to Emma’s book. To me they always finished each others sentences without really finishing them. Which bugged me. It made it hard to follow. I understood it, but it bugged me.
Hunter and Emma are both dealing with something that mess up there life’s. Their both trying to straighten their self out, but can’t stop their addictions for each other.
Liked the book, but hated the broken sentences.
This is a great addition to this series of standalones.
Brothers best friend is one of my best troupes to read and this one didnt disappoint.
I highly recommend this book and series
Love, love, loved! Emma is Brendon’s baby sister & Kaylee’s BFF. She asks to stay at her brother’s while looking for a new place. And she won’t tell anyone the truth about why the move is needed. Hunter has always been the life of the party but the party is over. He’s staying at Brendon’s and he’s working at Inked Hearts. So not only are they roomies (and each other’s babysitter) but they are also co-workers. He’s all broody, sexy, and trying to find himself. She is out-going, sassy, and trying to find peace within herself again. I love their back and forth. The confidence they help each other find again. We get to spend time with our favorite peoples and these two are fantastic. Mind you, now I hope we get books for Chase & Wes!! And I love broody Hunter. I received an advance copy. The wonderful characters and the great story had me totally enthralled as I turned each page of this well written book! I look forward to reading more from this author!
4 1/2 stars! Fifth book in the Inked Hearts series told in dual POV. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone. Each book about a different artist at Inked Hearts tattoo shop and their HEA. It is nice that the secondary characters are woven throughout the series and I liked reading about the new artists too (I can’t wait for their books). This story is about Emma and Hunter. Hunter is friends with Emma’s brother who is helping him get back on his feet. Emma is trying to find her footing as well. I really liked the time and patience, and friendship that went into their relationship. It is not insta-love but a relationship that takes work and understanding. I like that the drama/angst was not drawn out but resolved quickly and realistically. Great book, I highly recommend!
I’ve read all the books in this series and I think Emma and Hunter are my new favorites.
Emma is dealing with something from her past which is shaping her now even down to where she is living. Meanwhile Hunter is as well. They find themselves living at Emma’s brother’s ( who is also Hunter’s best friend) house at the same time. Each tasked with watching out for the other by Emma’s brother babysitting turns into more fast.
While Hunter is fighting the attraction because of friendship and trying to get his life back on track to be the man he wants to be, Emma is dealing with a traumatic past event that is keeping her from moving ahead with any relationship.
In true Crystal Kaswell fashion, their is some heaviness to this book but it is tempered well with enough light moments to keep it from being too much. There is also so much insane heat and chemistry between the characters you can’t help but root for them and hope that they get over their pasts to find their future.
I received an advanced readers copy of this book for a honest review.
One of the best love stories I have read. Love how Hunter and Emma becomes that one person that they can rely on. A beautiful heartfelt emotional read.
This is Emma’s story from the Inked Hearts series. What a wonderful addition to series. Not only do we get the characters from the other books in this series, we get to learn more about Emma and get to meet Hunter. Hunter and Emma are both struggling with incidents from their pasts. With Brenden out of town and Emma moving back in the house where Hunter is staying, the sparks fly. This is a wonderful journey of self-forgiveness, trusting another person to be there for you, of love, some great laughs, a few tears and ultimately a great love story. I received an advanced readers copy of this book and am gladly leaving my review.
An enjoyable slow burning and heartbreaking but sweet romance. Another standalone within the Inked Hearts series. Enjoy following the great cast of characters and look forward to the stories of the new characters. Emma and Hunter are both overcoming their inner demons and help each other to overcome them. As they get to a HEA.

I really like the way Crystal writes. It is like you live in the characters head are are able to think and feel what they do. And, it’s written as a person thinks. Not always in complete sentences, no filter, and language that could make a sailor blush. It is a unique way of writing and works very well in this series!
