Lara Adrian’s New York Times and #1 international bestselling Midnight Breed vampire romance series continues with Break the Day, an adrenaline-laced, passionate new novel of paranormal adventure.
After a shocking betrayal nearly killed him and the people he cares about the most, what Breed warrior Rafe wants more than anything is revenge against the insidious brotherhood called Opus Nostrum. … Nostrum. But to achieve that goal, he must turn his back on the Order and infiltrate a dangerous gang with ties to Opus. Risking everything to redeem himself and carry out his deep-cover mission, Rafe will let nothing stand in his way–least of all his desire for one of the loyalists he should despise, a mysterious, dark-haired beauty named Devony Winters.
But Devony has secrets of her own to protect, as well as a personal duty she will do anything to fulfill. And as a daywalker passing herself off as human to the gang she’s been embedded with for months, the last thing she needs is a dangerous former member of the Order unraveling all her hard work. Her plans depend on keeping Rafe at arm’s length, but if she surrenders to the dark need he stirs within her, it will be her heart that pays the ultimate price.

Another utterly fabulous read ,I always get so excited when a new book comes out from the amazingly talented writer!!! I love visiting the world of these otherworldly vampires!!! And Rafe and Devony’s book was all I could have hoped for!!! After what happened to rafe in Claimed in Shadows by that conniving bitch Iona ,rafe felt not only betrayed but also responsible for those who died at the peace talks. So when he goes undercover to get closer to finding the heads of Opus Nostrum he crosses paths with a female gang member who is more then she seems. I don’t want to give too much away, but I will tell you that everything you love about the breed is hotter and the twists and turns are awesome and if that isn’t enough theirs the heat and steam factor because Rafe is one sexy breed warrior with buckets full of Smouldering sexuality,And devony is a smart strong and very gifted breed female and a worthy mate to rafe!! Lara’s breed series is delishous and intensely erotic and so very well written and it just seems to get better and better with each book!! Vampires and sex,it just doesn’t get any better then this!! Until next time luv’s
Fantastic addition to the Breed series. I love Rafe, always have. He’s been so important in other books that him finally getting his own is great. Devony is the perfect mate for him. She is such a strong woman. I just love this series it gets better and better with every book.
Love and have read all of her Breed books. Would highly recommend this author.
3 stars – I liked it
Rafe has gone undercover to gather information about Opus Nostrum. But when he discovers one of the loyalists is more than just human, things quickly change.
This story picks up a few months after the events in Claimed by Shadows. Rafe is still angry about being betrayed and has gone undercover to try and gather information on Opus Nostrum. He quickly finds that being undercover is harder than expected, especially when friends get in the way and get hurt. Rafe started out as an angry and vengeful Breed but being around Devony calmed him. Devony brought balance to Rafe and was really the perfect partner for him.
Devony is a daywalker who has been undercover for months with a gang to find information about Opus Nostrum. Devony was an extremely capable and smart woman and I really liked her. Her past was extremely heartbreaking and it made me love her even more. Devony will be a great addition to the Order’s team and I really can’t wait to see her in future books.
Overall, this was a great couple who are going to end up being a powerful team in the future. I am really enjoying the progression of the Opus Nostrum storyline and can’t wait to see what is going to happen in the next book.
I have been a fan of the breed series for over a decade. I’ve always enjoyed the previous books but I have been waiting for Rafe story since 2008 when I was first introduced to his parents. I was not disappointed, actually Break the Day is now my favorite in the series. The plot has been building for several books now and this story flowed smoothly. Rafe & Dev follow is parents and the other warriors falling fast and hard and they compliment each other which I was happy for. Anxiously waiting to see what is to come. A definite must read.
This was a fun, sexy vampire romance that I was thoroughly entertained by. I do have to admit to not loving this series as much as I loved the original start of the series. After the kids started getting their mates, I just wasn’t as into it. That said, it’s still a fun read. Just not as awesome as the first story arc.
Let me start with Wow!! What an engaging, fabulous read. Rafe is such a great character and Devony was definitely a woman who could stand toe to toe with a breed. Break the Day is a well delivered, well written story continuing the Breeds mission to bring down the Opus and I can wait to get my hands on more. If you haven’t read this series you are seriously missing out on an amazing collection of books.
Break the Day by Lara Adrian is the latest book in the Midnight Breed series and it definitely doesn’t disappoint.
After being betrayed, nearly killed and having the lives of the people he loves the most threatened, Rafe wants nothing more than to hunt down and seek revenge against Opus Norstrum. In doing so he must leave the Order and infiltrate a dangerous gang that is working for Opus, but what he doesn’t expect to find is someone who wants revenge just as much as he does and someone he is starting to have feelings for.
Devony Winters had been working undercover for months trying to find out who was responsible for her family’s death and why, but now having a former member of the Order show up was going to make it difficult to continue with her plans and to keep her secrets safe. What she doesn’t plan on are the feelings she has for Rafe.
I’m definitely looking forward to reading more books in this wonderful series.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
Break The Day is latest book in Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series & it was amazing!!!! This is Rafe’s story where he meets his mate Devony while undercover investigating Opus Nostrum. She manages to keep these books fresh & exciting with characters you love. Devony is a tough, vulnerable & strong female after suffering tragedy & you will love her & Rafe together. Can’t wait till the next book comes out!! A must read book & series!!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
After Rafe’s bad luck with women or rather a woman he throws himself into his work. Devony is trying to escape her grief when she meets and instantly distances herself from Rafe. The two agree to work together to bring down Opus Nostrum, the insidious terrorist group that bamboozled Rafe and murdered Devony’s family.
I love Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series. My favorite book is Kiss of Crimson, where Rafe’s parents meet, fall in love and battle Rogue vampires. I put off starting Break the Day thinking that this book couldn’t compare to his parents’ story and I was wrong. I couldn’t put the book down and as one device’s battery died, I would pick up on another to keep on reading. This was another fantastic book in a terrific series.
4 HUGE stars for this latest Midnight Breed book!
I’ve been a fan of Lara Adrian since I first discovered her while wondering through the aisles at my local library.
Her world of alpha male vampires, strong heroines, and really hate-able bad guys, captured my attention, stole my heart and made me sigh and laugh out loud.
This latest book, Break The Day has all of the above mentioned and more.
Rafe is a sweet one who’s trying his best to walk on two sides of a line. Sometimes he gets it right, but most of the time he’s just winging it. The fact that he gets confused and heart-torn just makes him more likable and more human than he would like, I’m sure.
Devony is one of the strongest heroines Lara has written yet. (My opinion).
She, Devony, has a mission. Yes, it may be self imposed, but it’s what keeps her moving forward.
And tough, lordy this girl is tough as nails. Until we get to see the real her. Then she too shows her vulnerable side. There went my heart again.
Rafe and Devony are magic together!
This book is just the best!
Oh, and there’s a twist. The only thing I’ll say about it is, you won’t see it coming.
Thank you Lara for sharing your amazing world of Midnight Breed with us!
Rafe and Devony were brilliant! I loved Devony’s feisty attitude and her sharp mind. She had a lot of grief and angst to work through and Rafe was in the right place at the right time to fill that need.
Even though he looked like a rough and tough warrior, Rafe’s innate goodness still peeked through, showing a very humane side. His duty to the Order versus his feelings for Devony highlighted his indecisiveness, while driving the point home just how torn he was between his past and future.
These two had sparks from the start and low and behold did Adrian deliver on the romantic side!! Sultry with a sweet surrender of inevitability, Rafe and Devony swept me away with their attraction!
I’ve been reading the Breed series since the second book released…okay, waaaaay back when…and have been a devoted fan ever since! Sexy romances, alpha heroes, strong heroines, and great story lines never fail to keep me occupied way into the night! And with a couple of surprise twists and plenty of action, Break the Day was a fabulous addition to the Breed series!
Awesome. Must read the entire series.
I was so excited to get Rafe’s story and was not disappointed. Rafe is trying to redeem himself and everyone except a select few believe he’s left the Order but things aren’t quite what they seem. Devony has a personal mission to exact revenge but in the end there’s a heartbreaking development. Absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for more of the Midnight Breeds.
Another brilliant, engaging story in this ongoing series. I must confess when I started it I had forgotten what Rafe had gone through in the previous book. Didn’t take long for the memories to surface and this definitely isn’t a standalone. You really need to start at the beginning to understand the relationships and how this world works.
This story arc has been going now for quite a few books and I really like that the story is unfolding at a good steady pace. I like that each story really centres around the main couple and their developing relationship more than the bigger picture. They entwine really well and make for a much more satisfying story. I sometimes get frustrated when a story moves too slow but this definitely isn’t the case and it’s so much better for it.
Rafe feels like he has a lot to make up for and it’s the driving force behind his every move. He hasn’t done anything wrong but it’s a conclusion he has to find on his own. Devony is on her own troubled path and they intersect perfectly. Both have the same goal and soon come to realise that it’s easier to achieve with each other’s help. Their perfectly matched and I loved how their story unfolded. She’s as badass as he is which I absolutely adore in a Breedmate.
It’s full of action and adventure, powerful emotions and passionate chemistry. I read it in a day as couldn’t put it down once I started. I’m loving this world and the kickass characters in it.
I highly recommend this series for the vampire lovers out there.
I am never disappointed with this series. I’ve looked forward to Rafe’s book for a long time, and it was well worth the wait. He holds a special place in my heart because his parents, Dante and Tess, are one of my favorite couples in the Breed series, and he had previously been betrayed by a woman. Lara did another great job choosing the perfect mate. For Rafe it’s Devony, who’s a strong, independent, determined woman that saves Rafe’s life more than once, and helps him realize there is such a thing as true and lasting love.
Oh my word!! So much neck biting drama. The evil of Opus just seems to keep on growing. So many deaths. So much destruction. And for Rafe and Devony is is beyond personal. He was duped by a plant and almost destroyed those he cared for in Montreal. Devony was crushed when her parents were killed in London. All of the deaths were the brought on by Opus. They will stop at nothing to destroy what is necessary in their mind to make a better world.
Devony and Rafe are searching for revenge. They want those that destroyed a piece if them. Their dedication to their mission brings them together, bringing many surprises for them both.
This story is packed with action. Rafe and Devony are ducking attacks. They are going on missions risking their lives with no back up, no support until they rely on each other. It is their saving grace. It is their destruction.
Lies never stay a secret. Traitors never stay hidden. Break the Day almost broke them. Break the Day almost broke me. This story was packed with so much action. Break the Day was graced with wonderful romance. In the end love saves the day.
Rafe is determined to show the Order he can be trusted and to put an end of Opus Nostrum. Meeting Devony Winters put a spin on things and Rafe is afraid to trust after his last mission. Devony has her own secrets as well. Wow I couldn’t put this book down and can’t wait for the next one!!!
This book was amazing! I love these Breed novels! From the night Rafe and Devony met it was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I loved how fast he fell for her. She was take no prisoners trying to figure out what her father had left behind. I never saw the twist coming. Never thought it would be so close. I absolutely love this series!
This book had me hooked from the first page. I love the Midnight Breed series and Devony and Rafe’s book is another great story. There is action and romance, betrayal and redemption and the fight to save the world continues, the Order won’t stop until Opus Nostrum is defeated. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
