Everyone has their breaking point…
Life at Lansing Supernatural Prison is worse than ever. A riot followed by another failed escape attempt has made things unbearable for the teen inmates who have already been to and hell and back. But apparently, there are deeper levels of hell than even they knew.
The new warden is the stuff of nightmares, and Phoebe Atkinson is losing sleep with nightmares … Phoebe Atkinson is losing sleep with nightmares of her own. It feels like she’s losing her sanity too. Her friends, and especially Xander, are what keep her going—that, and the hope her father is still alive.
Xander Aldrich feels like time is slipping through his fingers, and Phoebe may be too. Though his determination to be free has never wavered, it’s not something he can do on his own. Unfortunately, trust doesn’t come easily these days, especially when help arrives in the form of a former enemy.
When inmates start disappearing, the stakes become too high to ignore. But will it be every supernatural for himself, or will they band together and break out?

This review is for the series which I absolutely loved. The books are well-written with fully developed characters, each with their own voice. Each book is action-packed. The author makes you care about the characters and what they are going through. You want the main character and her friends to be victorious. I highly recommend this series. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed at all.
This is book three of the Supernatural Prison Trilogy and finds the situation for the inmates of Lansing Supernatural Prison becoming even worse than they have ever been before. A new warden, Fletcher, has been appointed after the riot and prison break attempt and he is a nightmare. The inmates thought life was difficult under Warden Will’s hands and those of his scientists who would force them to fight each other and experiment on them. Food rations are cut, the inmates are forced to work in near silence, with no break time or outside recreation time to talk to friends and fellow inmates. Xander feels closer to Phoebe than ever, but can’t get her alone to tell her his true feelings for her. Phoebe is suffering from increasingly frightening nightmares and is unable to sleep most nights. Add to that, not knowing what has happened to her father nor where he is, and the death of her mother in front of her during the riot, even though she didn’t exactly like her much, are all bringing her ability to put on a brave face down. She believes she sees him along the corridors and hears him calling her to save him during her dreams, and doesn’t know if she can keep her sanity much longer.
When a former inmate Wolf, who killed a close friend of both of them, appears back as a prison guard, instead of having been killed for his actions, the shockwaves flow through all of them. Another guard Heath seems a bit more humane in his treatment of the inmates. Cathy has been finding messages left in her prison cell and uses her ability to ‘talk’ into the heads of the rest of the group of friends. But can it really be believed, that someone is trying to help them and that some people on the outside know about what is happening to the teenage inmates and is trying to do something about it. Can they really rely on a former enemy to be the bringer of good news and help? Or is this yet another sick ploy of the new warden? He restarts the sickening fights between the inmates, but instead of being in a small room with just the scientists watching, he is forcing everyone to be part of them and to watch each sickening bout. At least they aren’t supposed to be to the death, but he makes an exception for Phoebe. Outing her ability for all to see! When some inmates start to disappear without warning, no one knows what has happened to them, nor where they may have been taken. Warden Fletcher is driven by his readings from Mein Kampf, leaving a terrifying life of misery for the inmates, as guard numbers are increased and threats are made more real.
Xander tries to stand up and take Phoebe’s place when Fletcher tries to force her to fight, but his threats are too much and force her to fight to the death, only hers obviously. But another fight brings one of the fighters to the edge of death and it is someone Phoebe thinks a lot of and admires, who kept her safe and trained her how to look after herself, when she was first placed in prison. She uses her newly found ability to help them and this brings her directly to the attention of the warden and more personal experimentation upon her and torture to find out what she might be hiding. They all want to be free, but when threats are made, even those who might be able to help, from a position of power outside the prison, are left unable to do anything without those they love the most being placed in the crosshairs of the warden’s gun! A shocking ending for all, as the inmates hope for freedom, but will find a warden with sickening methods of keeping people in line, to be overcome first. Lots of abilities and experimentation, with parents giving up their children without fully knowing what would happen to them. One of the friends has an ability he has been practising in secret and will be a key aid to their possible freedom. An epilogue shows where some of them are after the events in this final book. Lots of disturbing events and loss in this tale, with difficult times for the main characters and those they love. A fitting ending and one that ties up a lot of things for Phoebe, her father and Xander. Maybe there will be a sequel to this series, with some of the main characters, once they are out of high school and begin their new lives. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Absolutely loved this book! This is an absolute MUST read series! I was hooked from the very beginning and am so glad I stumbled across this series. Wonderfully written. Captivating and flows very well. I loved the characters! I loved watching their growth throughout the series. Rollercoaster ride with lots of ups and downs and wonderful supernaturals and a warden that leaves you wondering.
Omg! I absolutely loved this story! With it’s ups and downs, crazy supernatural’s and even crazier warden.
Phoenix (Phoebe) & Chief (Alex) are definitely one of my favorite “power” couples. They have one of the most beautiful and complex love stories.
The anxiety I experienced reading this book was so worth it. It really was a incredible story!
