The first time I returned to Lancaster was for my brother’s funeral. The second time was for Myra. For twelve years, I lived alone in my cabin, building a life with my two bare hands. I was free from their rules, their policies, and their lies. They are a cult.My father is their leader. To protect my brother’s widow, I’m making her my wife. It’s her only way out.But drawn to the purity in her deep … I’m making her my wife. It’s her only way out.
But drawn to the purity in her deep blue eyes and the innocence of her gentle voice, I wonder if I’m not the biggest monster of them all. I have to save her from them and myself. Because every second I spend with this timid woman, I fight the urge to claim her.
Own her.
Make her truly mine.
And I know it’s wrong.
I will break her fall—if I don’t break her first.

Abe left behind at the age of sixteen, the life he knew and all that he had been taught. Today he works hard, he is a lumberjack, he likes carpentry, he owns a small house bought with a lot of effort and he loves to read in his free time. In fact, the books were very important for him to educate himself and discover the outside world, to know new things and to see that everything he has learned until today was a great lie. Abe lived in a very small, extremely religious community, where everything was sin, women are treated as objects, fear of eternal damnation is used to control people, and the Legacy, headed by his father, controls the wealth and life of people. A great cult, using religion for his interests.
Years later, after a call, he finds himself returning to this place for his brother’s funeral. And he discovers that nothing has changed. Everything is still a big lie, women stifled by archaic and sexist rules, the name of God used to promote terror and the Legacy commanding and calling the shots. One day, just one day. This is the time that he must endure this martyrdom. But fate has other plans. A pretty pair of blue eyes crosses his path. His brother’s widow.
Myra does not know what will become of her life, she was married only a month ago, and is now a widow. Her father-in-law sent her to pray and await the decision of the elders, and that is what she will do. What she does not suspect is that she is completely helpless. Her house is now owned by her father-in-law, as well as her husband’s money and even her own money, her father’s gift. Or she will be given in marriage to a much older elder of the Legacy, or will be made maid in the house of one of her brothers. Myra will have her prayers answered, a little different than she imagined. Abe does not agree with what will be done with this innocent girl, and to get her out of this place, he decides to marry her.
With Myra now in his home, Abe begins to teach her how the real world really works. Cellular, coffee, television, mall, trivial things for us, but that for her is brand new. And day by day, these two are adjusting to the routine, and Abe begins to discover that a fake wife is not such a bad idea. And ends up falling in love with her.
The book is a novel, it has a religious theme, several scriptures are cited, but the main thing is this interaction between the couple, between two people from the same place, who despite sharing the same education, are very different because of the circumstances. Abe lives longer away from the community, has been able to learn many things and to live his own experiences. Faith is still part of the character, but he has found something that comforts him, and no longer lives by the teachings of his father. Myra on the other hand, despite being learning, still has much of the religious theme itself, she can not see that it was a cult, she thinks that as she is married now, she should follow her husband, and if he lives outside the community and likes of modern things she must learn.
Abe and Myra found solace in each other’s arms and together they are trying to adjust to a new normality. The end of the book ends in a great mystery, and can hold the reader’s attention. The story of Abe and Myra continues in two more volumes.
5 Who’s Saving Who Stars!!
I’m absolutely in love with this first book in the new trilogy by Ms. Mabie. This story is one that I’ve not experienced before because of it’s subject matter and the fact that I can actually picture every single scene in this book because I live near a town that follows this type of population.
I’m so impressed with the amount of details that Ms. Mabie has given us and the accuracy of them shows she really did her research in writing this story. Abe and Myra are two people that while coming from the same world are literally like night and day. And Abe trying to give Myra a chance at a life she never would’ve had had her husband, Abe’s brother not died.
The fact that Abe does what he does shows that he’s not completely removed from the world he was raised in, he interprets it differently and, in my mind, the right way…it shows he really is a man of character but there’s something lurking underneath that draws him to Myra in a way he wasn’t expecting. For her part, Myra doesn’t understand this marriage they’ve entered into but she’s learning to embrace it.
I love how Abe is teaching her all the things the world outside her narrow upbringing sheltered her from. There’s some reactions that she had to events that actually brought a tear to my eye. It reminds me that the world is a tough place and not everyone is as jaded as some of us.
Ms. Mabie has drawn me into their world and watching them grow closer than even they thought was possible at the outset is really a beautiful story. But, it’s not all’s well that ends well, because, well, this is a trilogy so you KNOW there’s a cliffie and what a cliffie it is…I mean really??? I’m going to need book two ASAP please!!!
Break My Fall by M. Mabie is the first book in her brand new Breaking Trilogy . Told in dual POV between Abraham and Myra, this book has a cliffhanger ending that will leave you chomping at the bit for more. An original story of love in unexpected places, cult mentality, inner strength, and so much more, this was a purely enjoyable read.
Abraham has been away from Lancaster and his father’s cult for years now, but when the call comes in telling him of his brothers death he has no choice but to go back into his past, pay his respects and leave again as fast as he can. When he learns of his brothers widow, Myra, and the horrible, misogynistic plans the elders have planned for her he cannot stop thinking about her. Finally he makes a decision, one that could change his life completely, again.
Myra has only ever known life the way she was raised. Not realizing you are in a cult and this isn’t the way most people in the world live isn’t something she is even aware of. What she does know is that her marriage was never consummated, she isn’t as sad at her husbands passing as she thinks she should be, and her brother-in-law Abraham is frightening and enticing all at the same time. When he comes to her offering his help he is the answer to her prayers and for some reason she puts her faith in him. What she doesn’t expect is to become his wife, but it’s a prospect that doesn’t scare her like it should…
For the sake of spoilers I will go no further than to say this was enticing, angsty, filled with anticipation and building emotion and sexual chemistry made all the more interesting because of bother of their backgrounds with the cult. I am on tenterhooks awaiting the next installment, Break Me Down. Enjoy!
Break My Fall is a riveting book with quite an original concept. Abe left his family years ago because of their distorted views on religion. He never intended to return, but the death of his younger brother changes that. He hates going back, but he knows he only has a limited time there. When he lays eyes on his brother’s widow, Myra, all that changes, and he is determined to save her, no matter what it takes.
Since this is a trilogy, Mabie took her time developing both the storyline and the characters, and not just the primary characters. There are secondary characters that drive the plot, such as Abe’s father.
I’ve never really read much fiction about cults, but I found this fascinating. I knew this was a romance, so I knew before reading Abe and Myra would be in a relationship. Like the rest of the book, Mabie has taken her time with this. She made it very realistic. Myra is very naive and innocent. She hasn’t been exposed to things outside of her town, and she certainly has no idea what it means to be in a normal relationship with a man. Mabie captures her innocence perfectly. Abe is so very sweet, patient, and kind with her. I can see their relationship developing into something that will last forever.
A great deal of the book deals with learning to live outside of the cult and Abe’s journey. Now, he is helping Myra travel the same path. I’m not an expert on cults, but I have seen documentaries. From what I have seen, Mabie has done her research and given her readers an authentic, truthful story.
I love a good book, but I love a good story even better. She has given us quite a story. I loved the imagery she used. For instance, everything is “clean, neat, and tidy” in Lancaster. Men are well-groomed and nicely dressed. Yet, when you look underneath, you will see the ugliness and evil that walks those streets. Whereas Abe is described as not big on fashion, and he has long hair and a beard….those things aren’t accepted in Lancaster. Abe represents everything good and right. Mabie also doesn’t bash God, she very clearly shows how some people distort Him and the Bible, using it for their own selfish and evil purposes!
This is quite an emotional read with a bit of suspense thrown in, especially concerning Abe’s brother. I have a feeling there is something more there….The ending….WOW!!!! I can’t wait to see where Mabie is going to take us in the next book!!!!
Break My Fall is my first time reading M. Mabie (Thank you, Marie Saunders!) and my eyes were GLUED to the page from the moment I opened the book. This story is absolutely riveting and utterly unique. M. Mabie gives the marriage of convenience trope new life and has laid the foundation for an epic love story. You NEED to read this romance. I’m dying for the next book.
ARC provided, but this review was voluntarily and honestly written.
„Break my fall” is first book in „The Breaking Trilogy” series told in dual perspective. Book was simply amazing and got me intrigued since it was announced. “Break My Fall” is very original, intriguing book that will keep you hooked from the beginning to the cliffhanger end which will make waiting for part two in October really hard.
So now more about the story. Abraham grew up in cult church community and his father was a leader of said cult. When he was 16 he decided he wanted to leave and live or his own somewhere else and never come back. But when his brother dies he has to go back to his funeral. There he finds out that his brother recently got married to a woman named Myra. There is instant connection between them from the beginning. Abraham starts to grow concern about what her future will hold no for her, especially that he knows what the cult does to young woman so he offers to marry her in order to save her and give her back some of her free will. Myra obviously goes with it because she didn’t even fully understand what the plan was. What came next was really fascinating cause they’re both so lost and threading uncharted waters when it comes to this new and sudden relationship, but deep down they’re so similar and so wonderfully connected to each other, they just don’t know it yet. So it’s no surprise that I loved it all.
I really love Myra even she was naive and inexperience when it comes to the world knowledge but at the same time she is very strong and really amazing character. I really liked watching her evolution and coming out of her shell with still holding to her values and beliefs. And when should I start about Abraham he is just one great man. I can’t wait to find out what will happen in next two books and how their story will end.
Another thing I really love about this story is slowness of Abe’s and Myra’s relationship, with pace set by the author to the perfection, her need to please, there were so many aspects that I enjoyed about this book.
Without spoiling anything to you I will tell you only that the ending will keep you guessing and wanting instantly more. This is first book out of three so story is definitely incomplete and there is a huge cliffhanger on the end so keep that in mind. Absolutely must read.
Break My Fall was one of those books that the build up is intensely slow, yet deliciously perfect.
I was drawn to this story since the first page until the last page of the book and boy that ending, left me hanging by a thread and now I’m so anxiously waiting for book 2.
Abe is a very quiet and reserved man who escaped the religious beliefs of his parents. His dad was the leader of their religion and he wanted nothing to do with it. Unfortunately his brother stuck by his father and was following through with their beliefs and demands. When the unexpected happens and Abe is called back home to attend to the matter, he realizes that he needs to protect Myra, his brother’s wife. She is stuck with his family and she knows nothing other than to follow what she was taught to follow.
Myra, a very quiet girl who doesn’t know anything outside of that world. She doesn’t stray and she follows all the rules. It was nice to see how she was evolving and developing outside that world once she left it.
Both of them fit so well together and the build up was just, like I said PERFECT! I loved seeing how Myra was coping with her new surroundings and what she was able and not able to do, the freedom she was gifted upon once she left that town.
I absolutely loved Myra and Abe, I can’t wait to see what is next in store for these two in the next two books!
WOW! M Mabie books always take my by surprise. I’m not sure why because every one of them always ends up being amazing. This one was no different. This was a completely different story than what I thought it was going to be. Definitely not disappointed by any means. But I was surprised. And it didn’t take me long at all to become completely taken by the story and characters.
Myra is a woman who is not well versed in mainstream society. She is very religious and doesn’t really have interests outside of that or her community. Abe is also religious but not to his family’s extreme and has set out to make a life on his own. When something happens and he has to go back home he doesn’t expect to be mesmerized by the cute little blonde.
Their connection was instant but strained. I loved the push and pull! Definitely a great read and I cannot wait for the next book. The ending of this one had me on the edge of my chair screaming WTF?! Mabie definitely knows how to keep a girl on her toes with her words!!
I absolutely no doubt about it loved this story. As soon as I saw the word cult my curiosity got the better of me and I knew I had to read it. I wasn’t disappointed.
Then look at the blurb. Seriously if the word cult didn’t grab me then the blurb certainly did.
I’m not going to be able to give this story the review it deserves so just go and read it and see the awesomeness for yourself.
Go into this book blind. Don’t read any other reviews. Just believe in the author that your gonna get one hell of a story.
Cannot wait to read more of this trilogy.

BREAK MY FALL by M. Mabie, book one in The Breaking Trilogy, was like nothing I envisioned yet left me completely and utterly SPELLBOUND!
THE STORY:
Abraham Hathaway left Lancaster behind twelve years prior, turning his back on the strict religious doctrines and brainwashing of the god-fearing Legacy commune led by his father “The Great Pastor.” He has found peace living life on his own terms, without fear of recrimination, in his quiet cabin in the woods. He work as a mountain logger with dreams of opening his own furniture shop one day and has sworn to never return to his hometown of Lancaster.
But everything changes when tragedy strikes and he must return to attend his brother Jacob’s funeral after he passed away from a heart attack. Abe plans to pay his respects and get the heck out of dodge but everything changes the moment he locks gazes with Myra, his brother’s beautiful, docile, God-fearing widow. She was practically a newlywed when life threw her this cold, cruel curveball and now the future she planned is totally uncertain. Something in this sheltered, blue-eyed angel calls to an elemental part of him and when Abe discovers that Myra is about to be thrown to the wolves, it rouses in him a fierce protectiveness that catches him off guard. Then in one monumental moment, a decision is made that changes the trajectory of both their lives and puts them on a collision course with fate and true love that neither fathomed!
MY MUSINGS:
WOW. Just wow. This book was just…there are NO FREAKING WORDS really. This is my first novel by the extraordinary talented M. Mabie and most definitely won’t be my last. The refreshingly unique, unconventional love story that transpires between two unlikely soulmates stole my breath and had my heart fluttering like a WILD THING in my chest!
Like a lot of folks, I am fascinated by books that revolve around religious cults/communes because it’s so beyond anything I can possibly fathom! And I think M. Mabie did a fantastic job depicting the biblical scripture, religious doctrines and the puritan way of life with sensitivity, aplomb and stunning depth. It was truly such an evocative backdrop to this epic love story!
Speaking of romance, the tender-hearted relationship that evolves between Abe and Myra gives new definition to the term SLOW-BURN so if you are expecting a hot, torrid insta-lust tale packed to the gills with steamy interludes, this is not it. However if you are up for a story that’s off the beaten path, an unorthodox, all-consuming love story that captures your heart and soul and takes you on a journey that you never planned for, then BREAK MY FALL is guaranteed to astound you!
The character craftsmanship was exquisite and I really enjoyed the uniquely special bond that is forged between these two MCs who must navigate unchartered waters together. These two lost souls enter into a marriage with the best of intentions but what started out as a last resort to save the heroine from a horrific fate, ignites into so much more!
This couple could not be more different. Myra has always been a good girl, a dutiful, obedient child of God who has lived a life of subservience and never questioned following the dictates of the Legacy elders who run the commune with an iron fist. She truly is innocent and naïve to the ways of the world, whereas Abe, in all his big, gruff, brawny glory lives life on his terms and is a hard-core cynic. But he finds in Myra a new mission, a new purpose that brings him back to the reviled community he had shunned. And when circumstances dictate that he wed his brother’s widow in name only and then spirits her away to live with him in his cabin in the woods, it’s riveting, liberating and wondrous seeing Myra thrown out of her comfort zone, having to acclimate to mainstream society for the first time ever!
Witnessing the scary and beautiful world from Abe’s beautiful bride’s eyes is definitely something to behold! But of course Abe, in his own uniquely alpha way, is there to support her and be her pillar of strength throughout all the whilst struggling with his own inner demons!
Myra wants nothing more than to be a good, dutiful wife to Abe and will do anything to please him, which both repels him and ignites wicked, deviant desires that he tries so hard to suppress! However as the story progresses and her perspective begins to change and she is introduced to a life filled with infinite possibilities where she can choose her OWN path, not one that’s been forced upon her, we truly see this beautiful, soft-spoken, gentle hearted woman emerge from her shell and blossom before our eyes!
And of course Abe transforms too. This embittered, jaded loner finds a reason to believe again, to hope, to FEEL and Myra brings out this softer, more loving and doting side to him that just made me MELT! Gah! Let me count the ways I love this hero. He is big and strong and ruggedly masculine, but underneath the tough, taciturn exterior he is such a noble-hearted, fiercely protective and caring man.
Bottom line? Both these characters captivated my heart and I rooted for this them every step of the way!!! It’s this slow evolution of these two characters, individually, and as couple, that’s truly resplendent. There is palpable discord and delicious push pull as Abe unwittingly falls for his convenient bride, and vice versa, and their close proximity paves the way for some glorious simmering tension. Take it from me—the attraction that flickers between this adorable duo unfolds at such an achingly torturous slow build you will be literally dying for these two hopelessly smitten newlyweds to finally consummate their union!
Which, sadly, you are gonna have to wait for because it’s just the first book of a trilogy which of course it ends on a HUGE cliffy that will leave you shattered!
A MUST READ!
REVIEW: 4.5 STARS
“There was beauty in her inexperience, in the slow way she went about discovering me.”
As I try to come up with some words to describe this book, I’m going to be very careful not to cuss out Ms. Mabie because she left me on a huge cliffie – until October no less!! But what a gooooood cliffie it was!! I never saw that coming – even though I knew it was a trilogy, I just wasn’t sure how she was going to bait me. OMGosh….I’ll slowly crumble while I wait for this next one though. But alas, she has me chomping at the bit for it too! Aahhh!!! LOVE.
And of course, this is my SECOND fake marriage book in a matter of months, and I will admit that when authors that I’ve read and have enjoyed write these kinds of books, I still generally shy away from them. But TWICE now I’ve enjoyed them so.very.much! Shocking, I know….I might have to take back my ‘never read’ stance on this trope now. I am so invested in Abe and Myra’s story! I thought about them all day yesterday after I finished this first book. I am so excited to read the second book because it was juuuust getting to the exploratory stage, if you catch my drift. I loved it!!! I love the slow burn in this one, and Mabie wrote it quite convincingly!
One thing I love about Mabie’s storytelling is it’s not an over-embellished, overused, big-word-using read. She doesn’t just pull from a thesaurus for every other adjective or word, because that’s too busy and I appreciate it a lot. It just gets tiring and it’s happening more and more, so I appreciate the easy read. It was a comfortable read from the very beginning, and it’s a worthy journey until the very end. I love her style and her flow and this book was the perfect example of why.
The discovery of these blossoming feelings between the characters was my favorite part. How they started and moved toward the relationship they had, it was 100% organic. It was intriguing and the kind I could sit back and get caught up in. Abe was a solid man, with a good head on his shoulders. While he knew what his thought processes were, hers were coming from a completely altered reality and it was a neat dynamic to wander through. Being inside their minds as they discovered a whole new way of life within their own little world away from what they have only ever known was really neat. He knew her reality, but it had been so long since he had to deal with it, so I loved how driven he was to save her but still had some errors in judgement and realities. It made him real and relatable, but I also loved seeing that he was weighing all his options while being thoughtful and confused, all mixed into one. I loved his internal battles.
Myra, oh dear. What a whole new world to peer in on and see how another has lived their entire life. Not casting judgement, but I was definitely in the OMGosh category when things were described. Her innocence was tempting and her curiosity was intoxicating; she clearly got Abe’s undivided but unassuming attention. I could easily read more from her POV because her way of thinking was never ever on the same level as mine, and it was nice to read pure innocence with a whole new perspective. While I have NO concept of the kind of life that Myra lived, it made for a great read because it was a new world for me to explore. It made me question daily activities and how she would handle certain circumstances, completely out of curiosity. It was neat seeing her try new things…almost to the point of giggling at the purity of her excitement for new things.
I really couldn’t put this book down. The pace was a slow and easy perusal….so much to read, but I couldn’t slow down!! It wasn’t a bad slow, it was a great slow – I never felt rushed or like things needed to move along quicker. So very good – I really enjoyed this one. Mabie created a story that made me think about all the differences; our/my everyday normal to her/their everyday normal. It kept me engaged, watching, seeing, learning the whole time I was reading. Oh, and this cover was a good ‘mental picture’ for me to hang onto while I was reading it – not gonna lie. HAHAHA!!

Break My Fall by M. Mabie is a slow burn emotional love story that will take you by surprise. The blurb pretty much gives you an idea of what to expect but what will captivate you is the beauty and poetic prose of Mabie’s words. She allows readers to feel the push and pull of Abe and Myra’s complicated love story. While this book is driven by angst and religious/cult undertones, Mabie allows you to feel how far one goes for love, longing, freedom and second chances. I can’t wait to see what is in store for Abe and Myra in the next book.
I was intrigued with this story. The blurb is what caught my attention.
Once I started reading, my mind was going all over trying to determine what exactly was going on.
I’m curious to find out more about Abe and Myra.

Amazing. I really really liked this. No I really enjoyed this. Break My Fall pulled me in and immediately grabbed my interest. It totally consumed me and I didn’t want to put it down.
The characters Abe and Myra are great, we get both perspectives and I love that. It’s original, and written very well. Since it is part of a series it does have a cliffhanger but honestly you won’t care this is that good. So excited for the next book thankfully we don’t have to wait long. I definitely recommend this!
I am a big fan of M. Mabie. I have enjoyed all of her books, each for different reasons. This one I enjoyed because it is so different! By that I mean that the characters lives…the world they grew up in and live in… is so different from mine. I have so many questions for M. and her characters. Lol. I am so impressed with how thorough and thoughtout. The culture is captured in such detail and so well spoken. The beginning of this book curiosity pulled me in… my curiosity is still off the charts but by the end of the book I am also so attached the characters and how each of them change. I am hooked and can’t wait for the next one!
Holy Moly ! What did I just read?!
Mo has been been pretty consistent with the majority of her books. She gives us the angst. She gives us the romance. She gives us the steam.
Break My Fall was something else entirely. Sure we get all these things but she has weaved for us a dark tale with insight into a religious cult.
Abraham was able to escape. He has been spending the years building a life outside of the confines of the way he was raised. He has tasted freedom.
That is until he returns home for his brothers funeral, only to be pulled back into the circle when he meets Myra.
Myra is struggling to find her place since her husbands death, which only makes Abraham more appealing and scary all the same. She was raised to be obedient and docile, never fully understanding that there is in fact a life outside of Lancaster.
I want to tell you more but I feel I have already given away too much. Its best to go into this story blind.
I will say this; Break My Fall is an introduction. We meet Myra and Abe and the rest of the “family” but you’re gonna want to pay attention. Because just when you get comfortable and feel like you have an idea where they are headed… BOOM! We are taken in a different direction at the close of a spectacular cliffhanger! There are deep, dark and sinister things at play (remember what I said about paying attention?) and since this is a trilogy, I think Mabie is going to take us on a ride. I now realize this sweet story I was reading was just a trap and Mo is doing her Dr Evil laugh right now saying “Got ya!” October can’t get here soon enough!!!
“There was beauty in her inexperience, in the slow way she went about discovering me. Timid, yes. But so damn sweet. So good.”
I have some anxiety when I’m about to begin a trilogy. I have high expectations for these because they have to capture my attention, and keep it, beginning to end, if I’m going to invest my heart in soul in the characters and their journey. So while I was in fact, a little leery about starting M. Mabie’s Break My Fall, book one in The Breaking Trilogy, it turns out I had absolutely no reason to be. This book came out of nowhere for me because if you just read the blurb, you still have NO IDEA what you’re in for! I was hooked, addicted, enchanted from page one! Abe and Myra spoke to me on every possible level. I was so damn intrigued by where this story was going, and I couldn’t look away…not even for a second!
The beauty buried within the pages of this book goes unmatched. Yes, there is a religious aspect to Abe and Myra’s journey, but it’s so interesting and it didn’t bog down the romance at all. It was perfectly paced, giving adequate time for the unexpected bond between these two characters to grow and flourish…to mean something. The romance is delicate and you can feel the struggle of a man like Abe holding back his from his instincts…his yearning for the beautiful, but oh so innocent woman in front of him. I can’t think of two people who deserve each other more than Abe and Myra, and I’m counting down the days until we can get more of them. Yes, there is a major cliffy, but it’s to be expected in a romantic trilogy like this one. The author did her job and gave us a FANTASTIC start to what is sure to be a story everyone will be talking about in the romance world!
Break My Fall was a heartbreaking, angst-filled, delicate, and poetic romance that will touch and move you in ways that are so unexpected. I want MORE!
Break My Fall by M. Mabie is a captivating story that I just can’t get enough of.
Abe is a hard working, honest and reliable man who escaped the clutches of his cult years ago.
Upon his return to that sect for his brother’s funeral, he meets his brother’s widow, Myra.
Myra is kind, caring and meek. She has been groomed and oppressed by her cult to have the men make decisions for her.
Upon her husband’s death, she starts to question her life and what will happen to her.
When Abe proposes an out via marriage to him, she immediately accepts believing with all her heart that God has answered her prayers.
With Abe wanting Myra, he must extract what his true feelings are for her versus those beliefs the cult had engrained in him so many years ago. While Myra must learn to live independently and for herself.
This was wonderfully written and completely absorbing. It is told in dual POV. Not knowing much about cults, this story does seem realistic.
I was glad to see that the relationship between Myra and Abe developed slowly. It was a slow burn and I enjoyed every second of it.
This book did end on a cliff-hanger which left me aching for the next book.
I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a good one. Not your typical troupe at all. Abe left his father’s cult over ten years ago. He never planned to return but after pleading from his mother when his brother has died he reluctantly does so. There he meets his newly married and newly widowed sister in law, Myra. And even though their meeting is brief he sees something in her eyes that makes him want to save her from it all.
I’m a big fan of Mo Mabie’s books so it came as no surprise that this hero had my attention from the beginning. He saw enough of what he went through growing up and put his needs aside to help her. How could you not love him for that. And I loved seeing Myra “come out of her shell” and slowly accept that things were different outside of her sheltered community. They slowly learned from each other. The only “bad” part was that it ends in a cliffhanger. But I figured as much going in knowing it was book 1 of 3 so I was prepared somewhat. Nevertheless October can’t come soon enough.
This book!!!!! Oh my God. I don’t think I have felt like this in a long time… I woke up this morning and reached to read the next chapter before I realized I had already hit the end and would have to wait for more… It’s been a little over 12 hours and I MISS THEM! I NEED IT.
This plot was different, unbelievably well written, and was like a breath of fresh air from the norm. M. Mabie made me fall in love with the characters much like she did for the characters themselves. And she left me literally begging her for more. I have to wait.. I don’t want to wait.. but I think it’s going to be totally worth it. This book was so good!!
