My rules: No players. No flirts. No cocky jerks. My exception: Dawson Marsh. Dawson might be every girl’s crush in this small town, but not mine. I can appreciate him from a distance, and that suits me fine. Except that one time he kissed me. Up close and personal. Once is a mistake. But the second time? Sublime. The man should come with some kind of a warning sign: Not safe for work! Hot to the … a warning sign: Not safe for work! Hot to the touch! But what kind of girl can’t handle a little friends with benefits action, right?
The one who missed the most important warning: Danger, risk of falling.

The thing with JH Croix’s writing is that it always feel heartfelt. Her characters, Evie and Dawson, makes you feel what they are feeling as you read what they’re going through. Dawson’s childhood was a mess and Evie’s childhood, while mostly ordinary, has suffered loss. They started out as acquaintances who are always teasing each other. But people around them have always noticed how different they treat each other compared to when they are flirting or teasing another person. They got to a point where they can’t fight their attraction anymore but the questions are “What are they calling ‘this’?”, “Is ‘this’ going to last?” and “Are we falling in love?”. It is a tender romance with steamy sex scenes that also touches on the topics of death, abuse, drug use and depression. [I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.]
Break My Fall is the third book in J.H.’s Swoon Series. They all can be read as stand-alones; the characters from each book are in all of them, but you don’t need any back story. I think this book is my favorite of the series so far!
Dawson tends to flirt a lot with the ladies but with Evie it’s always a little more. Will his past get in the way of exploring his attraction?
Evie doesn’t think she is in Dawson’s league. He is too hot to want the likes of her or so she thinks. Will they be able to keep their relationship balanced before they fall?
I really like friends to romance books!! For me, it helps keep the relationship grounded, giving it a much more realistic feel. Dawson and Evie’s relationship is on fire! They are so sweet together! I can’t wait to see what she has in store for Dani and Wade!!
Such Swooneliciousness!!!
This book is part of the Swoon Series and features Dawson and Evie. They are great together. Perfect chemistry and back stories. Thanks to the author with giving a male the effects of living with a substance abusing parent, namely depression and anxiety which more times than not go together.
The location where this series takes place is ideal and the characters are wonderful to get to know. It’s refreshing to see a bully not supported.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book and series, and the author’s other amazing books for your reading enjoyment and pleasure.
I received this ARC for my honest review so I’m leaving this for your consideration. Peace.
Third book in this wonderful series and finally we get Dawson’s story It is a emotional roller coaster ride that you will need tissue for
Dawson Marsh and Evie Blair both work together at Stolen Hearts Rescue he is an out and out flirt and a bit of a one and done man but he wants to change. There is a depp attraction between these two but Evie wants something permanent. Can Dawson overcome his inner demons to be the man she needs and wants These two both have emotional baggage and walls around their hearts but maybe they can overcome everything if the love between them is strong enough.
Break My Fall by JH Croix is my favorite of the swoon series! Dawson and Evie have worked together for three years have flirted with each other until the “kiss”. Evie knows Dawson is a big flirt and doesn’t do relationships. Dawson flirts and only has one date with women. Evie and Dawson have swoon worthy chemistry. Break My Fall deals with depression, how it affects your life and how differently Dawson and Evie deal with depression. JH Croix wrote a well written romantic story and handles the topic of depression in the relationship of Evie and Dawson beautifully. I highly recommend reading this book.

Attending a fundraiser for Stolen Hearts Rescue, Dawson Marsh decides to head home early. An aggressive man grabs Evie Blair, leaving marks on her arm, and Dawson pushes him away from her. In the jostling that follows, wine gets dumped on Evie, so Dawson offers her a ride home since they both lived at Stolen Hearts Lodge, a high-end adventure lodge where they also both worked.
Dawson is a major flirt, constantly teasing. But because of that image, Evie has avoided any kind of closeness with him because she is not a one-night-stand type of girl. As Evie starts to get out of his truck before Dawson makes it around to her side, she stumbles on the running board and he grabs her as she collides hard against him. The sudden need to kiss her is overwhelming, and he finds himself doing just that! When she didn’t slap him, he kissed her again. When she asked what that was all about, his nervous laugh sent the wrong message and she stormed away.
Dawson in particular has a lot of baggage involving a genetic predisposition to depression. He finds that being around Evie makes things better. Somehow being with her always made him smile. He found himself laughing often, too. He also had a place, a rock in the woods where he laid back and watched the stars. It comforted him when his depression got more than he could handle. When one evening Evie showed up, claiming the rock to be her place as well, they agreed to share and talked a little about how it eased their pain, Evie missing her twin sister who died in a boating accident. For both of them, being here cleared their heads and made things right again. Then she reached over and held his hand. Was she seeing another side of the man?
When Dawson slid off the rock to go back to his cabin, once again, he felt compelled to kiss her. But this time he told her he had wanted to. When she said she wasn’t his type, he denied having a type and acknowledged their kiss was the best he’d ever experienced. He walked her home, hand-in-hand, and slept better than he ever had.
Dawson ran into Evie where she was having coffee and again tried to convince her he wanted more than casual with her. He even invited her to dinner, but had to leave when he had to respond to a fire department call. Their romance attempt is on again-off again as Dawson works through his problems. He and Evie are good together, healing each other. Can Dawson get his life together and try to stabilize a serious relationship with Evie? Will she finally believe he is being serious about wanting to be with her?
This was a well-written book and a pleasure to read. It takes real-life problems and deals with them in a helpful way. The characters are likable and the story line keeps the reader’s attention. Grab your copy and enjoy!
Break My Fall by J.H. Croix is an awesome and wonderful story of Dawson and Evie, a page turner! filled with raw emotion, drama, sexiness and hot chemistry, loved it! another great book by the author and i cannot wait for the next one! great addition to the series, well done! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book!
Love this series! This is Dawson and Evie’s story. Dawson has the reputation as a player, even if it’s not totally true. He does love to tease and flirt, but everyone except Evie sees that it’s different with her. Evie has been fighting her feelings for Dawson for 2 years, but all it takes is one truck ride back to the lodge to change her world. One kiss tilts both their words on their axis and now they will have to work their way through their new feelings and move past the baggage they both have and open up to each other. I love the banter, the drama, the passion, all the feels! I can’t wait for the next book!!
This was such a beautiful story, showing how time and friendship can lead to the most beautiful relationship.
Dawson’s character absolutely drew me in. He has the tough outer shell, when he’s truly hurting inside. Depression is a contest battle for him, as a child he didn’t live in the best environment as his father was an abusive man. As well as working as a first responder, it has shown him things that not everyone can handle.
Evie hasn’t had the easiest live growing up either. Losing her twin sister was a huge pivotal moment in her life. Her peers would pick on her, and this made her not as confidence as she should be.
Dawson has always been known as the playboy, the one night stand guy. Evie wants more than someone for just a night.
When these two finally realize what has been right in front of them can they give each other the chance they both deserve?
J.H. Croix has really made an impact on me with this story. The subject of depression is always something that people seem to hush, as if it’s a terrible secret. She wrote about it extremely well, and I can say I will always be one clicking for her books!
A Fantastic Romance .
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Break My Fall . This is a well written and wonderful story . Both Dawson and Evie have things in their pasts that still affect them and cause insecurities . Dawson and Evie both work at Stolen Hearts Lodge and both have been dancing around each other since they first met . They have smoking hot chemistry between them . Dawson and Evie must each let their guards down and work through their issues .
I love this story . It’s a beautiful love story . The entire series so far is fantastic .
ONE INCREDIBLE TREAT!!!
OMG! Wow! I’ll get it out eventually. Maybe. Croix totally nailed this bad boy 100% on point with so many emotions it kept me riveted and frozen to my seat. I couldn’t put this little jewel down had I wanted to. Sparks fly as drama, tension and intrigue ensues in epic proportions. One engaging storyline and thrilling plot propels this baby roaring to life brilliantly. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances that make for one thrilling experience. Witnessing the trials and tribulations the characters struggled through blazed this baby together smooth as silk without a single crease. The characters are authentic and realistic with such depth and individuality it’s easy to relate. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive you have no trouble picturing each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Awesome job Croix, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
Break My Fall by JH Croix is the third book in the Swoon Series, but can be read as a stand-alone HEA novel. It centres on Evie and Dawson. Evie is a good girl who has had tragedy in her life and doesn’t necessarily see herself how everyone else does. This is in comparison to Dawson, a self confessed flirt, good looking guy, who like Evie seems to be carrying around a lot of baggage. What starts off as a slow burn becomes all consuming in this romantic read.
These two characters are pretty prefect together; they both have sensitive hearts and are carrying around a ton of baggage which we see rears its head throughout the book. There are particular poignant moments when characters are speaking to each other about their pasts as well as moments when secondary characters give some really good advice. It definitely felt as though this book centres on Dawson more and his struggles and how it affected not only the relationship he had with Evie but also with his family.
This was a really sweet romance with a few hot scenes scattered in between. Evie and Dawson belong together and this book looks at the lengths people will go to too have their happily-ever-after.
ARC received for a fair and honest review.

Dawson and Evie are just adorable. I loved their off-the-charts chemistry and their easy banter. They felt so right for each other from the very beginning. I loved how their mutual attraction blossomed and morved into a deeper relationship with all ist struggles and insecurities…
I loved how their story made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
A great love story about young love!
I admit it, I thought Dawson might have been a little shallow when he was introduced in This Crazy Love and Wait For Me. The constant flirting, superficial hookups, lighthearted teasing… Boy, was I wrong! Dawson may have kept a tight lid on his emotions while keeping busy at the Stolen Hearts Lodge, but that became an impossible task when he got within touching distance of Evie. He pretty much didn’t know what hit him after that first kiss! The more I got to know him, the more he had me swooning and falling for him! Evie was such a sweetheart. She hadn’t had an easy childhood either and both affected the other spectacularly, leading to all-out combustion. Some serious issues were addressed within the story, highlighting that even the most unfortunate circumstances can be overcome with love and support. This was a thoroughly enjoyable book that I binge-read, swooned over, and considered missing work for!

Woo! Another story right out of the Stolen Hearts Rescue and lodge! Dawson and Evie’s road to all things happily ever after, won’t be easy- but have no fear, the ” swoon ” is in full effect, and ready to lend a helpful *nudge* along the way!
Dawson is a flirt, with a taste for commitment-free hookups, a pretty well-known fact at work, and surrounding areas. That doesn’t deter most women, except Evie, not a hookup type of girl, she steers clear of the love em’ and leaves em’ kind. She gets along fine with Dawson, even flirts for fun, but things go off course.. way off.
Regardless what they say, or do the steamroll of crazy has begun and they’re stunned- sort of… FWB, they decide, too bad the demons of the past they’ve been carrying are taking over this ride. It’ll be up Dawson and Evie what happens next.
Once again, Ms.Croix writes a thoughtful, layered emotionally charged, not overly dramatized ( Thank YOU) story that delves into mental health, frustration, misconceptions, refreshingly. Only to intertwine a hotter than hades passion and swoon-worthy romance making it the full package read!
One I highly suggest checking out for yourself!
Break My Fall is Evie and Dawson’s heartwarming romance. Dawson is a funny jokester that has a reputation of getting around. He has always had a thing for Evie but never acted on it. Evie is sweet and sassy. Dawson and Evie have more in common than they know. Will they stay friends or will they act on their feelings for one another? It was a fabulous romance. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc.
WOW! The chemistry between Dawson and Evie is phenomenal. But more than that, they’re just good together. Theirs is a healing relationship that neither of them saw coming. It seems that others could see what was between them long before they could. Once they gave in to their emotions, it was fun speed ahead! What a wonderful read!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Just loved this well written, page turning, witty book. Dawson’s reputation is a flirting, big player . Evie doesn’t do one night stands. This is their story. Does Evie finally figure out Dawson is more. His reputation is just that, a reputation. Far, far from the truth. You will enjoy the ride with Evie to the truth. Love, family, thoughtfulness included.
For 2 years Dawson and Evie have been joking back and forth. Dawson is know. For his sense of humor and being a player. Evie felt like she wasn’t his type of girl but she did enjoy the jokes. While they were at a bar Dawson didn’t like the attention that another man was paying Evie. Where the protection came from Dawson didn’t know but in the process wine was spilled on Evie’s dress, Dawson offered her a ride home. Before he knew it he was kissing her. What was it about her?
Again I was drawn in from the first and the next thing I knew it was done. I was given an advance copy for a fair and honest review.
Break My Fall by JS Croix is the long awaited third book in the Swoon series, highlighting the relationship between Dawson and Evie. Both are employees of Stolen Hearts Rescue and have been for a while. Dawson is the world’s biggest flirt and teases incessantly. There is not a better man to have in an emergency, though. Evie has skirted him because she is not a one-night-stand type of girl. Dawson has been reviewing is life lately and one night the situation is correct and he is able to follow-through and kiss Evie. Both of them liked it and it wasn’t too long before it happened again.
In many ways this is Dawson’s story. He carries a lot of baggage, including a genetic predisposition to depression. He has protected himself as best he can, but he is coming to see Evie as the cure to all his ills. It is a heart-wrenching romance, on again, off again. Dawson has problems to work through and family to deal with. When Dawson and Evie are together, their romance is hot: plenty of good sex. When they are apart, both are miserable. Evie is ready. Will Dawson even be.
I love this book. I love this series. I love JH Croix’ writing. It is satisfying to read about people who deserve love coming together to find it. I can’t recommend it highly enough. It is a stand-alone, but previous characters make an appearance. A ready will enjoy all or just this one.
