Publisher’s Note: This steamy contemporary love story is not your typical wine and chocolates romance. It has a dark edge but if you’re up for the ride there is a guaranteed HEA. It contains elements of mystery, suspense, action, adventure, danger, betrayal, and power exchange.

There really just isn’t a good place in this book to put it down, so clear your calendar. you’ll want to read it in one sitting.
This is a new author to me. And wow am I impressed. This story has it all, dark romance, great engaging plot, love, suspense and a happy ever after. The characters, Mia and Martin are well written and you really want good things to happen to them. I will be looking up the rest of this author’s work.
There are a whole lot of feelings you get while reading this story. Mia lives in the wilds of Colorado, isolated by choice with only her Bernese Mountain dog Jack as a companion until during a blizzard, a man comes knocking on her door, he needs help, he’s covered in snow and freezing. Mia helps the man in need, lets him in to warm himself but the blizzard continues. The tv is on and suddenly the man’s face is on the screen! He’s escaped jail, a known Serial Killer named Martin and he is stuck there in Mia’s isolated cabin. Their story is just loaded with fear and tension, strong feelings from both with distrust and hunger with a man that hasn’t touched a woman in years. This story is broken into two parts with part one being their meeting and learning what they can about each other, some strong sexual desires and fears that go with that, seeing as he’s a convicted serial killer of six women. Then the second part that deals with betrayal and the search for the truth that could be the death of one or both them, or not. This type of story and the writing skills of the author will keep you reading and wondering throughout the whole book. You will not put it down and you will not be disappointed when the whole story is finished, I promise.
Suspense, Danger, Sexual Tension, a Delicious Page-turner
Nicolina Martin really hit the nail on the head with this one. Break My Chains is filled with suspense, danger, sexual tension and emotional ups and downs. Both main characters have a past with burdens that weigh heavily on them. There’s plenty of mood swings and raw emotions; guilt and self-loathing are in the forefront, but not for the reasons you might think.
Let me tell you about the sexual tension between these two people. Well, it’s thick! It had me biting my lip, hoping the two would finally hook up. I’m not going to tell you the whole story about this well-written dark romance. I highly recommend you read it. Nicolina might soon become one of my new favourite authors.
I literally stumbled across this book on Amazon. When I read the sample, it just drew me in and I had to buy it!!
With elements of dark romance, some erotica, and enough suspense to keep the story line moving, you can’t go wrong with this read. Mia and Martin are such fascinating characters, each tough in their own right. It makes them quite a match, and just adds to the steamy tension. Loved this book…and I don’t hand out five stars easily!
I had no expectations about this book, but it really took me by storm! Mia only wanted the solitude her cabin offered in order to escape a painful part of her past. She never thought an unexpected guest seeking shelter would turn her world on its axis. Martin is far from your typical passerby, and he is in a bleak place when he encounters Mia/Pink. Are they able to move past their pain? Is Martin the bad guy Mia thinks he is? The twists and turns, the back and forth bickering and banter, and the sizzling chemistry all contributed to a story I just had to keep reading.
I absolutely loved this book. Mia moved to the solitude of the woods because of guilt over what happened to her mom. Mia left her dad and brothers. The last thing she expected to show up on her doorstep during a snow storm was an escaped convict. When she sees the the man on the news her world is turned upside down. She becomes his prisoner in her own home. But something tells her he didn’t do what he’s being accused of. She makes it her mission to find out the truth. She didn’t realize what she was getting herself into until it was to late. The best quote in the book, It’s just a thing, we shouldn’t be fond of things. Heart is all that matters. I was hooked from beginning to end. A definite must read.
Mia is spending her second winter in a cabin in Colorado. A snowstorm has brought a stranger to her door named Martin and she invites him in.
Martin has fled from the law. ” I’ve lived in Hell for so long that I’ve forgotten how to treat people on the outside.”
Mia has fled from her family. “I left everyone behind after the accident. Guilt stabs me so hard I can barely breathe.”
As Martin stays longer, she thinks, “He’s too much of everything: too dangerous, too murderous, too violent, too lethal, too psychopathic, and too much man.”
As their story continues we read of their weaknesses and strengths. We see how their feelings for one another change. They fight, they play music, they listen to each other and they comfort one another. They grow as a couple as their journey is an emotional one. For them and for the reader. Some situations that they find themselves in cause them more danger and we feel that intensity. Trust and love come slowly but it’s so worth the wait.
Mia reveals; “I was more starved than I had ever imagined. So was he, I guess. Good match.”
Author Nicolina Martin takes us on one hell of a ride. Her words leap off the pages and I can clearly see them in action as if I were watching a movie. This would make a awesome movie! I fell in love with Mia and Martin. I also fell in love with Nicolina’s writing. She’s currently writing a series, releasing excerpts and showing us her storyboards on her website. From this point on, I will read anything that Nicolina publishes. She’s truly a talented and gifted writer.
I LOVED this book. From the opening pages, the story had me hooked and I lost a lot of sleep because I just kept saying, “One more chapter!” LOL I believe this is the author’s debut novel and I cannot wait to read more from her. The characters were wonderfully realistic – no Prince Charming or perfect damsels to be found here. Instead, the main characters were perfectly flawed, as all humans are, and sometimes you liked them and sometimes you didn’t. This was a wonderful mix of steamy romance and psychological thriller and it had me guessing throughout. What do you do when your heart tells you one thing, but your mind (and everyone else) tells you you’re wrong?
There are definitely some triggers in this story, so be warned.
I loved this story. Mia was hiding out in the wilds trying to leave her past behind her, burying her head in the sand to escape what she has done. During a wild snow storm a stranger turns up at her door. Martin an escaped serial killer. Over the course of a few days they both live through different situations and emotions.
There was a great twist to the second half of the book, which brought the whole story to a great end. Loved the strength of the characters involved too.
I loved this story. The characters I could totally relate to. It was a story that made me laugh and cry at times. One of my favorites so far this year!
Absolutely NO SPOILERS – It is imperative that you go in completely blind – Trust me on this – There are just too many “OMG and “NO Please” twists and turns that will keep your heart pumping to risk giving scenes away
When I agreed to read a comp copy of Break My Chains I thought I knew what I was in for – I was so wrong – I did not put this down
This started as a captive romance that eventually led to a betrayal evoking a curiosity to solve a mystery that evolved into a thriller and ended with…- un uh this is one ending you will have to unravel yourself
I do however guarantee it will throw you into a serious case of who dun it
Mia or Pink definitely has my vote for bipolar character of the year – I swear I found myself laughing at her antics one moment and then wanting to knock some sense into her the next – Her world is a solitary one, by choice mind you – She is a bit of a wimp when it comes to facing reality and she does prefer to live in her own little “happy” bubble most of the time. Though I do applaud her for her tenacity even when the odds are against her -And let us not downplay the fact that when life knocks her down she finds the strength to straighten her spine and stand tall even if she stands alone
Martin is all man. I really liked his character. He pulled no punches and was pretty straight forward with his thoughts. Some of which I found highly amusing. I also commend his ability not to strangle Pink – Damn that girl seemed to do everything in her power to push his buttons
I do not want to give away any parts to this story line –
IMO each moment, even the little ones are so very important to how the reader is impacted as events are manifested
If you enjoy your romance with a little humor blended with a whole lot of heat sprinkled with a sexy alpha male and an adorable heroine delivered all wrapped up in a thriller/mystery
Then DO NOT pass this one up
I really liked this story! The plot was very engaging and interesting. I wanted to shake Mia a couple times during the first half but after that I really liked her. Martin was so hot! Love me a growly alpha male….
Good God this was impossible to put down it sucks you right in and it doesn’t let you go with all the twists and turns and it could be down right scary for some having this big mountain of a sexy killer man knock on your door in the middle of no where not knowing what is going to happen and I didn’t, and I liked it that way.. Martin is intense and down right scary but we get to see just a little bit of his soft as he has Mia on the very edge of insanity questioning every thing but I so loved her sassy and her braveness cause you know what that would terrify anyone. I really liked her character I got quite a few laughs from them as they go head to head for control. There are loads of mystery and twists you wont see coming and is exceptionally written and I loved it.
Its a great book! Nicolina knows how to write! Kept my interest from start to finish.
The characters are great. I liked the way Mia was fighty and tried to get away from Martin. And the way their relationship developed. The last few chapters kept me flipping pages so fast so i could find out what is going on; the action, the drama and the mistery were wonderful!
