My name is Winter, and I come from a broken home… us.
We packed our bags and moved to a placed called Sapphire Bay.
I settled in quickly and began creating the life I wanted.
Life became classy parties and unheard of popularity for me.
So enough, I began mingling with Sapphire Bay High royalty.
And then, I met Owen.
In an instant, my fresh start took a spoiled turn.
I found myself in the seedy underbelly of this new town, and I am scared to death.
Will I make it to see graduation, or will Sapphire Bay eat me alive?

Great Story
Wow, talk about drama, action, romance and a HEA! I believe this can be read as a standalone. It has a great storyline. On to the next! #HappyReading
This is the first book in this series that I have read and the first by this author. I absolutely love bully romance type books and this is one of them. Winter is new in town. She is friends with her neighbor Bonnie. But becomes friends with the more popular group at school. But something isn’t right. Winter hits it off with Owen who is part of the popular group. As things go on and Winter spends more time with Olivia. Winter senses that things just aren’t right. Owen is acting strange and Winter feels like things are off. Little does she realize that things are very off. She sees something that she probably shouldn’t have seen. She knows that she needs to do something about it. So she gets Bonnie to help her figure out what is going on. This was an enjoyable suspenseful, intriguing, page turning storyline. I enjoyed Winter’s story and her character. This was a very enjoyable book and I cant wait to read the next one in the series.
*Spoiler Alert*
Moving to a new town after the death of Winters (FMC) dad and gran (whose house her and her mother are living in) is a big culture shock for her. New school and trying to find her feet with new friends – Bonnie & Olivia. As well as a love interest – Owen. Except this book is not a typical school romance book its a lot darker because under this wholesome exterior of Sapphire Bay High is an evil undercurrent. One that you dont see at first and it catches you out because your not expecting it. Two-faced people but that does keep you glued to it. Loved Bonnies character. She became more than the timid one that she was at the start of the book. Not a bad read but it just felt a little short to me. Mainly because i read it so quickly. I would give this book 3 1/2 stars if i could
The blurb was very misleading. This was not a reverse harem book by any means. Winter has sex with Asher once, and is in a relationship with Owen, but never does anything with Samuel. That in no way makes it a reverse harem book. I’m not sure that you can even consider it a bully book as she was not ever bullied. Her friend Bonnie was bullied in the past by the popular kids, but that is it. I would consider this more of a suspense genre.
I would have liked to get more than just Winter’s POV. We get to know a little about Owen and bits and pieces about Asher, but Samuel is a complete mystery.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick suspenseful read.
I received a free copy via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved the premise of this book and it started off interesting but I could not finish it. There is nothing wrong with Naomi’s writing but I was triggered by the content. This story turned in a direction I was not expecting. Maybe others will enjoy this book.
I took a chance on this new author and I was positively blown away with this story. I’m in love with this story and I can’t wait to read the rest of this series. Naomi really hit on how what a young woman whom loses her family might react. She is uprooted and gets engrossed in Sapphire Bay High, where everything is not as it appears. The story line was AMAZING, and the plot kept me on the edge of my seat. I HIGHLY recommend this book, and have already started reading Book 2.
This is the first book in the Sapphire Bay High Series. Lots of threes in this book –
Boys, booze and drugs
Happiness, friendship, and acceptance
Alec, Samuel, and Owen.
After the loss of her father and grandfather, Willow hit a rough patch. To give her a fresh start her mother sends her to live with her grandmother at Sapphire Bay. Not your typical romance this book is full of lots of bullying, sex, trafficking, booze and plenty of drama. A good start to the series. I received a complimentary book from the author and voluntarily chose to review.
OMG…this book was so good! This is my first time reading a book by author Naomi Martin but I will be reading more! Winter and her mother have just relocated from LA to Sapphire Bay. Within the past year, Winter has lost her father and her grandmother. Her and her mother opted for a new start because Winter had been acting out at her old school. Winter meets Bonnie, her next door neighbor, and they quickly become best friends. When Winter starts school at Sapphire Bay High she gets sucked in with the “in” crowd. Bonnie begs her to be careful because she knows what they are capable of. Winter quickly learns that this crowd will go to any lengths to get what they want. Will she open her eyes before it is too late? This book is a must read and I highly recommend!
Break Me is Book 1 in the Sapphire Bay High School series by Naomi Martin. This is my first experience reading a Naomi Martin story (It will not be the last) and I found it to have excellent character development, a great storyline, and end with a valuable lesson learned. It is a story that keeps you engaged and turning pages from beginning to end. It will be interesting to see where Naomi takes Winter in the next book in the series. I recommend this book. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.
The Intentional Display of the Darkness of the Human Soul
Sometimes life doesn’t seem to know when one person has experienced enough pain.
Winter Keating has faced the pain of death when her father, an LA fireman, is killed on the job, doing what he was trained to do. His death spins his daughter into a downward spiral of bad choices involving boys, vandalism, alcohol, drugs and dropping grades.
After a year of pain, her mom and she move to her grandmother’s home in Sapphire Bay to start over, to hold tight to the good memories of the past, but to leave behind the destructive hurt and pain of loss. There, Winter can become who she wants to be. And that plan seems possible, as a new school year approaches, Winter makes the acquaintance of a local girl, Bonnie Wilkins, who offers friendship and the knowledge of the “lay of the land” of the local high school scene where beauty, especially physical, does not reflect the presence of inner beauty or kindness, and a bully can hide his beastliness behind his beauty.
Naomi Martin leads the reader into a dark world of adolescent cruelty and evil—but this novel goes far beyond high school bullying. What makes the story even more hideous is that the supposed innocence of youth is mingled with the depravity of sexual abuse, exploitation and human trafficking. While we admire the heroine for her desire to turn the page on the poor decisions she made following the death of her father, we are disappointed when rather than focusing of her desire to improve, she is constantly thrown into the world of corrupting influences who claim to be friends. But their claims are intentionally deceitful. The heroine seems set up for abuse by fate, by the plot, by the author and certainly by the corrupting influences that are the focus of the novel. It has a “surviving for now ending,” but how can the heroine and the reader move past the events of the novel without therapy and counseling. The moral summary offered as solace in closing is that “even monsters can have one saving grace” as the novel ends with the love interest of the heroine “doing the right thing”. We see the absolute strength of the heroine, as well as poor choices and intentional blindness she displays, but is it really necessary to dive so deeply into the dark world of Sapphire Bay to prove her strength? What is gained by such a painful display of human suffering?
Naomi Martin asks much of her reader. She seems to set up her central character and the reader to experience emotional pain with no purpose or redeeming insight. This is not a satisfactory reading experience if one is looking for hope and optimism for the future. I did not realize that the title “Break Me” was intended to not only reflect on the condition of the central character, but also on the spirit of the reader. The novel is not “over” at the end. It has all the marking of a series continuing with the themes and characters in search of a plot, closure and mercy.
I received a free copy of this book via an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review, but I also have Kindle Unlimited, but I will not be accessing it again for a re-reading of this novel.
Great read and suggest everyone to read.
This is the start to one amazing series! Winter’s father passed in a fire and she grieved by making all the wrong choices, boys, alcohol, and drugs. Her Mom feels they need a new start so they move to Sapphire Bay. She makes a friend, Bonnie, that tells her all about her new school and who to stay away from, especially Olivia, Asher, Samuel, and Owen. Will she make the same bad choices? Such a great read and I’m excited for the next book in the series!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
