Chloe
A folded up flag is all that remains.
My older brother lost, in a mission gone wrong.
And every single day, I face the man responsible.
The man who couldn’t save him.
I’m not stupid.
I know he’s watching me.
Waiting for his chance to rescue me.
But he can’t. No one can.
All I want is a second chance at the future I should have had.
Before the misery Ian Keller brought into my life.
He … had.
Before the misery Ian Keller brought into my life.
He owes me, and he knows it.
So when I show up to claim the debt, I don’t expect a fight.
Especially not one that leads to the best sex I’ve ever had.
Now I just have to convince him to let me go.
Because I’m not strong enough to walk away.
Ian
Her tears pour ice through my veins.
We both know there’s nothing I can do to stop her pain.
The sight of her holding that flag will haunt me until the day I die.
One night. One mistake. One failed mission.
Two families ruined forever.
I know the right thing to do is walk away.
Especially when I see rage in her eyes.
Chloe Young doesn’t need the trouble I’ll bring her way.
There’s only one thing I’m good for.
And it sure as hell doesn’t include fixing her.
With my expertise, I can break her down and tear her apart.
But I can’t put her back together again.
Not that she wants me to.
She’s stronger than she thinks.
Which she’ll have the chance to prove.
Because I have one more mission.
I have to walk away, leaving her behind.
And when I come home, she’s mine.

Another great Birch Police Department novel. Ian always knew that he and Chloe belonged together, but when tragedy strike they might not remain together. Chloe is suffering because she lost her only family she had left and she makes a snap decision that makes the whole situation worse. I loved Ian and how devoted he is to Chloe, even though I do not believe she deserves it at all.
This book is amazingly written and has great characters.
Cannot wait for Logan and Teri’s story next.

This was my first April Canavan read but it certainly won’t be my last. What an amazing story. This has to be the most emotional book I’ve read in a long time. I could feel the sorrow, sadness, anger, rage, regret and the hope and love throughout the book. I LOVED the characters both main and supporting and felt everything they did, all while hoping desperately for an HEA which was amazing when it arrived. While this may have been my first read by this author it definitely won’t be my last. Don’t disturb me, I’m taking my kindle and my Kleenex and hiding to read the rest of her backlist. If you like touching, angst and characters you can feel and hope for, this a read for you.
loved it !!! love this series !!! love Ian so much !!! love Chloe !!! this is their story… a fast paced action packed drama…Kevin is dead…Chloe is broken , she pushes everyone away, she breaks up with Ian…it’s bad…then the will and the bucket list…the unit is there for her…twists and more turns… then it’s a surprise ? not a good one… heart breaking… tissues please…

I was introduced to this author and her world in Birch, Maine, as part of an ARC program and have become a fan of both. Besides the individual couples, the story of how the war and those returning affect a small town is a big part of all the books. As the series continues, this group of veterans and their significant others become a close-knit family, if they weren’t already.
This book focuses on Chloe, who just lost her brother and recently broken her engagement to one of his best friends and brother-in-arms. Through the funeral and will reading, it was heart wrenching and very emotional. Definitely have tissues handy and be in the mood for a good cry. Ian and Chloe have been in love with each other since before they really understood it. They are both trying to handle their grief over the death of her brother. Plus, her brother left a bucket list for his friends in his will, and they go away to celebrate his life. As with all of these books, there are some twists and turns towards the end that will keep you reading.
Definitely dont read any of these Birch Police Department books without a massive box of tissues at hand because they are heartbreaking and Break It Down does that.
With the loss of brother – Kevin, Chloe completely shuts down and shuts out her fiance – Ian. My heart broke for her but Ian made my heart hurt. This man was utterly in love with this woman and she juts cut him out of her life. I just loved Kevin’s letters and dares. i cried my eyes out reading those parts. Heartwarming and touching too.
Nox and Bee gave a much needed bit of lightheartedness. So did the other friends and family (from earlier books). Ian and Chloe’s book was a lovely read with a few plot twists that were unexpected. I just love this series and all the characters so far. Im looking forward to Below The Line now
This is a well written book with a cast of strong characters centering on Chloe and Ian. The author does a great job pulling at your emotions with her beautifully painted pictures. She brings all the feels from heartbreak to happiness as she takes them on their journey. I loved the fun banter and reading their story.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
An Honest Heartwarming Storyline that hits home in more ways than one. Uniquely written, heart clenching and tear jerking.

with the death of her brother, Chloe had lost the last living member of her biological family.
Chloe returned the engagement ring to his best friend Ian. It is unsurprising that love, hate and guilt live so close side by side
A final request from Kevin gives them a chance to help process their grief and gradp once again at life
intense post traumatic stress, grief, and dramatic romance and friendships

I loved this addition to the series and it covered all the bases as far as emotions were concerned. I engaged so much with this book I laughed out loud and cried a few tears and everything in between. A story packed full or love, loss, friendship and survival.
Chloe has lost her only remaining family, her beloved brother and irrationally has transferred blame for that onto her (now ex) fiancé Ian.
He won’t be deterred though and simply waits out Chloe and hopes that she will come around.
Though the storyline makes Ian sound weak and Chloe a horrible person, that’s not how you feel reading the book at all. You really engage and understand where these characters are coming from.
The interaction with the wider friendship group (key to this series) are as excellent as usual and bring some deep moments in their own right, as well as moments of light hearted ness when needed too.
The end of the book will get your heart racing again….and then ramp it up even more so you are frantically turning the pages to find out what happens before the ending is beautifully wrapped up
Now to see what the heck has been going on between Logan and Teri….
Also hoping Ben, Kevin and Bria get their own HEA’s, perhaps in the new Birch Fire series….???

This book is about a group of friends that bond with each other after Chloe’s brother Kevin gets killed in the military and he leaves them a bucket list he wants them to do which mainly means they have to spend a weekend together where they share their feelings and celebrate his life. Chloe is Kevin’s sister who was engaged to Ian his best friend but she breaks off their engagement blaming him for leaving the military and was not there to keep Kevin alive. So before the weekend is over she knows she can no longer blame Ian and ask if he would take her back. Emotional book with a great ending.
This was a really good story. A large portion of it is Chloe dealing with her tremendous loss, not in a good way at the start, but she gets better at it. Ian and all of their friends help her the best they can. The kids are absolutely the best part of the book. I now want all of Logan’s secrets.

WOW April delivered another great book in this excellent series. There is a lot of emotions in the book But I love how the characters from the other books are included and I absolutely love the friendships and relationships. There are a few twists that you do not see coming and it took this to whole other level. I absolutely love this series and could read it all over again. So so good.

This is the fourth book in the fabulous series call Birch Police Department. This is the story of Chloe and Ian’s story and their journey to their happily ever after. This book is just as enjoyable as the previous ones. The story will hold your attention, the characters are likeable and have amazing chemistry. It will leave you wanting more.
Recapturing Their Love And Loss –
Chloe’s world was spinning after she lost her brother and she just didn’t know how to stop it, but every time she tried pushed everyone away, they just kept coming back to console and protect her. Ian wasn’t willing to let Chloe out of his life even after she broke of their engagement because of her grief. Chloe’s brother’s last request took his entire team and family on an expedition to experience what he had always wanted to do and this unexpectedly changed their lives.
However, just when their grief was starting to subside, a couple of curve balls are thrown into their lives, which sends them on an unexpected rescue mission and gives Chloe a reason for staying alive. This story took me on a really emotional journey as I turned the pages, but it left me with a feeling of joy by the time I got to the end. I have read a few books from April Canavan, but she is still a relatively new to me. However, I can definitely say she is becoming one of my favourite authors, as her stories have everything you will want in a thrilling and exciting book.

This was such an emotional roller coaster!
My heart broke not only for Chloe’s loss, but also for Ian. He definitely didn’t deserve to be treated that way and he was dealing with his own guilt.
Ian was pretty much the perfect man! Sweet, sexy, thoughtful, patient and understanding! A girl couldn’t ask for more! I love the friendship between him and all the other guys. They seriously crack me up!!!
Kevin stole my heart! How can a character that’s not really there make you fall head over heels for them? Great writing, that’s how!
I honestly can’t wait to see what happens with Logan and Terri!

**Tissues are needed if you read this book**
So here we go back to Birch and we meet Ian and Chloe. So we start off crying. No joke ladies, I was in tears. Chloe was just dealt a major blow in life and she is shutting down. She breaks off her engagement to Ian, in which I was like what? Ian and Chloe have known each other since they were kids. Ian’s best friend is Chloe’s brother Kevin. Chloe is just going through motions in life and pushing people away, that is until her brothers lawyer calls her and his friends in for his last wishes. So she is thrusted in this family bonding which helps her through her issues and she realizes how much she messed up. Can she rectify what she did? We do get a lot of laughs and more tears. While we find out what she does. Then bam here comes the unexpected times two and NO it is not babies. Although I did wish to hear about that. Unfortunately we got side blind by some unexpected news. So how will his all play out. Check out this installment of Birch Police department. Love this series.
Break it Down by April Canavan is the 4th book in the Birch Police Department Series. Now I’m one of those people that like to read all the books in a series in order but I missed the second and third books. I was still able to enjoy this read immensely. The first chapter ripped my heart open, Chloe gets the news that her brother is killed in action. This destroys her from the inside out…what’s even worse is she blames her fiancé for not protecting his best friend. This causes Chloe to break of the engagement. Ian loves Chloe so much…she’s they only girl he’s ever loved…since childhood she’s has his heart and he refuses to give up on her when he knows she needs him the most. Chloe, Ian and Kevin’s closest friends are given a list of things Kevin wanted them to do so Chloe and Ian are thrown together. Ian is determined to show Chloe that no one will ever love her like he does and that their love is a forever kind of love. This story was an emotional roller coaster ride without breaks! I ugly cried, I laughed out loud, I was flabbergasted (especially with the surprise ending). And I can finish this review without mentioning the adorbs Nox and lil Bee. I just can’t this how cute they are. I love the family dynamics in this series. April knows how to pull on those heartstrings. She will break you…then piece you back together…she’s a natural. Thanks April for sharing these wonderful stories with us readers. I received a free advanced copy to read and review.
This was my first time reading something from this author and I really enjoyed it. It didn’t take the usual romance route. The couple is broken up at the beginning following the death of the heroine’s brother. And it had an interesting twist near the end. I would definitely read all the other books in the series before this one, which I plan on doing soon, to better understand this group’s dynamic. And I’m really interested in Teri and Logan’s backstory.
Chloe blames Ian for the death of her brother even though she knows it is not his fault. And Ian doesn’t push. He loves her and is willing to wait for her.
Her brother’s will leads them and their group of extended family on a weekend away to complete a bucket list in his honor. And before the weekend is over they’ve rekindled their relationship.
Then they all receive unexpected news.
April had me crying in my Kindle on this one. Yes, we get the banter, the comedic relief, and the steam from BPD and their ladies and partners, but Ian and Chloe was a emotional adventure. This book gave us a love that started before they knew what love was, best friend sister, a total shredding and having to be put back together. What you get in Birch is family. Family that will call you out on your bull and make you see the error of your ways, family that isn’t always blood, but will comb the pits of hell for you. That family is what kept Ian and Chloe grounded through their grief. Here’s to that same family being there for Teri and Logan…I know they will.

The author has given us a very emotional story that pulls us into the lives of Ian and Chloe and does not let go. The story begins with a funeral and keeps you turning the pages, hoping these people can come to terms with the death and continue to live their best lives.
