Chloe
A folded up flag is all that remains.
My older brother lost, in a mission gone wrong.
And every single day, I face the man responsible.
The man who couldn’t save him.
I’m not stupid.
I know he’s watching me.
Waiting for his chance to rescue me.
But he can’t. No one can.
All I want is a second chance at the future I should have had.
Before the misery Ian Keller brought into my life.
He … had.
Before the misery Ian Keller brought into my life.
He owes me, and he knows it.
So when I show up to claim the debt, I don’t expect a fight.
Especially not one that leads to the best sex I’ve ever had.
Now I just have to convince him to let me go.
Because I’m not strong enough to walk away.
Ian
Her tears pour ice through my veins.
We both know there’s nothing I can do to stop her pain.
The sight of her holding that flag will haunt me until the day I die.
One night. One mistake. One failed mission.
Two families ruined forever.
I know the right thing to do is walk away.
Especially when I see rage in her eyes.
Chloe Young doesn’t need the trouble I’ll bring her way.
There’s only one thing I’m good for.
And it sure as hell doesn’t include fixing her.
With my expertise, I can break her down and tear her apart.
But I can’t put her back together again.
Not that she wants me to.
She’s stronger than she thinks.
Which she’ll have the chance to prove.
Because I have one more mission.
I have to walk away, leaving her behind.
And when I come home, she’s mine.

Wow I loved this book. April did it again another stellar read. Ian and chole have aways loved each other and planned to marry but when her brother was killed she pushed him away. Ian wasn’t going to give up on her no matter what she did. Can chole show Ian she never stopped loving him?

If I could rate this book a ten I would! It is fantastic! The story starts off very tragically and it is an emotional journey but one that I could not put down. This story had my in tears one minute and the next I was laughing out loud. It definitely pulls on your heartstrings but you cannot help cheering the characters on the whole way. “Break it Down” is the fourth story in the “Birch Police Department” series and it is intense. It is a stand alone read with connected characters. The story is about Chloe, Ian and family. Ian and Chloe have been in love with each other since they were kids. They are even engaged that is until she finds out her brother, Kevin, has died. Now with Kevin’s help they have to help her put the pieces of her life back together again. This story is very addicting with angst, humor, family, death, danger, suspense, passion, love, kidnapping and really good twists and turns. I loved every minute of this story. I am very much looking forward to Logan and Teri’s story and hope it does not stop with theirs.
I love this series and this book was no exception. It was intense, heartbreaking and dangerous. Chole lost her brother to the war, he stayed in even as his teammates got out. This tore Chole’s world apart. Ian was her fiance, until she lost it. This was a long ride with these two thru the ups and downs and the tears along with their friends and families. Can’t wait for the next book. HEA. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a Birch Police Department love story for Ian and Chloe. This one will have you crying and your heart breaking in one then one place in this story and just when the healing time is over and everything seems to be going back to normal the twist will come and everything will go upside down and you will cry then scream then cry some more but keep going this story is worth it just like all the ones before it are. I loved this one more for the emotional roller coaster and the true love these two go through to come out on the other side so much more stronger and whole. I loved this book and can not wait for the next one.

Wow, talk about an emotional rollercoaster. My heart absolutely broke for Ian and Chloe. Ian was amazing! He’s sweet, sexy, patient and never gives up on the love of his life. This book made me cry, but had plenty of laugh out loud moments. This story was beautifully written and I enjoyed the way the story unfolded. There was the perfect amount of suspense throughout and the twist towards the end was pretty interesting. Overall I really enjoyed this read.

A good read that entertained from start to finish. The drama, angst and emotion checked all the boxes for me.
Chloe is dealing with grief, anger and pain after losing her brother. Ian is the man she loves but she pushes him away. He stays close but allows Chloe her time to grieve while he is dealing with all the emotions himself. This is an emotional rollercoaster of a read.

She’s broken, destroyed, and all alone now. Her brother did not come home from his last deployment. Now she’s lashing out at the people that have always been family by choice because she blames them for her brother not coming home and they all have their lives ahead of them.
They were engaged, they grew up together, and meant everything to each other, but when Chloe’s big brother didn’t come home from his last mission, his final mission, she broke and she blamed all of his friends, including his best friend and her fiancé, Ian.
Ian wouldn’t give up on Chloe, no matter what. He knew that they were meant to be together, he just had to figure out how to get Chloe through the devastation she’s going through. When things start to get back on track, more devastating news hits them and then trouble comes calling. The Birch Police and Fire and Rescue are a close-knit group and have each other’s backs, so even if Ian was not there to help Chloe, he knew that someone would. I have really been enjoying these books that are in small town Maine. The characters are all great, the men have protected and served in multiple capacities from their early adult lives, and they continue to serve and protect their town and their community. The women are strong, independent, and able to hole their own against their men. The men are protective and caring. They will do whatever they can for their women and their family, whether they are blood or chosen family. I love the series and I am hoping for more of this small town. I give this book a 5-star review.
Another great story in this serious. I was patiently waiting for the craziness to happen and not was I not disappointed. It actually came out of no where. It was another great ready and I can’t wait to read the next story to follow.

5*+ Amazing, all the feels romance read
Break It Down (Birch Police Department Book 4) by April Canavan is a wonderfully well written romance that gripped me from the very beginning and didn’t let go until the very end. These characters, Chloe and Ian are probably my favorite couple of this series and ths is book is probably my favorite of the series. It made by laugh out loud and cry! The antics of these Marines cracked me up! And the ladies are not to be outdone, they are just as zaney as their men.
The plot is emotionally gripping and the part Chloe’s brother plays in it is prominent from both character’s perspectives as well as the laughter and the tears. Seriously, this book is not to be missed. In my humble reader opinion, April Canavan hit this one out of the park like a major league grand slam during the final game of the World Series! I feel this way because for me it takes a special book with special characters to actually bring tears to my eyes.
But this author did not leave it there, she always has something else up her sleeve just when emotions even out. There’s an added, unexpected element of suspense and danger close to home with Chloe it the crosshairs.
Overall, this heartfelt book handles a highly emotional subject with love and laughter while bringing it all home with a spectacularly special ending, including Chloe and Ian’s HEA, that made my day.
I read an ARC of this book via Hidden Gems and voluntarily share my review.
This is a well written second chance romance.
The storyline is full of suspense, forgiveness, survival and laughter plus sorrow the characters learn to say goodbye to those who have passed.
There is also an eventual happy ever after for the two main characters.
If you like a good military story where family and loyalty are everything then this series is a must read
I was given a copy of this book but this is a true and honest review
Break It Down is the fourth book in the Birch Police Department series. This could be read as a stand alone, but there are a lot of previous characters, couples, and references. Chloe has just lost the two most important people in her life: her brother overseas, and her fiancé whom she pushed away. When her brother’s will demands everyone to come together, Chloe and Ian have a chance to try again and let their love heal wounds. But when danger comes from different corners of the world, is it possible for them to find their bliss?
Oh my gosh. This book was hard to read. I’m pretty sure I cried for a solid 80% of this book. But I don’t regret reading these pages. Chloe and Ian completely swept me away, pulled me from my realities, immersed me into their life, their pains, their passion, and their love, and I adored the ways that I was broken down to be built back up again. There is such a deep sense of brotherhood that Ian has with his friends, of family that Chloe finds with her friends, and the overarching theme of never giving up on those you love. Chloe was hurting and yet, she was so strong! She could admit to her mistakes and she could accept help. Ian was perfection. So loving and caring and I loved the sacrifices he was willing to make for Chloe and those they loved. I adored them together! Their passion, their connection, the ways they could laugh through their memories and pain, and they honestly just felt so real. This book hit me in the feels due to my connections to the military, and I can honestly say that I did not want to put this book down. I was a little surprised by some of the ending drama, but I still loved it! This series is a perfect tear jerker, emotional rollercoaster of a ride, but love truly triumphs!
Break It Down was my first April Canavan novel and I loved it. This is the 3rd book in the Birch Police Department series and it was an angsty tale that held my interest until the end. This was Ian and Chloe’s story, and although she pushed him away during her grieving, I loved that he doesn’t go to far and was patient with her. I also loved that the entire book focused on not just them but also their entire groups of friends. These secondary characters provided great support and balance and even added much needed hilarity to the novel. The story will take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride and give you all the feel. There were some twists and turns that were so unexpected it will have you in shock. This page turner was a great read and I would highly recommend it to romance lovers.
Amazing book! I’m so glad I had the chance to read it. The characters were fantastic! I couldn’t put it down. I would definitely recommend!

“I don’t need her perfect. I just need her.”
Chloe and Ian. Their story is troubled. Heartfelt. Emotional. Daring. Streamy. Oh, soo, good. I loved the banter and teasing of of these friends. They could be such kids, when they are exmilitary cops! Scoop this one up. You will love it!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I can’t begin to tell you appropriately this book is named. It will completely break you down. The despair, loss, love and family dynamics will pull on every heartstring. Like every book in this series, by the end of the story you feel like these characters are your friends. I received a copy of this book via Hidden Gems which I am voluntarily reviewing.
This was a great book I really enjoyed the storyline. Chloe has last her whole family, the only person left is Ian her brothers best friends and her finance. That is until she breaks it off with him and claims that she hates him and the rest of her brothers team. They do not give up on her, as the story progresses it becomes very emotional.

April Canavan has outdone herself with Ian and Chloe’s story. Giving readers the background of Chole and Ian’s romance, she breaks your heart, then makes you smile with an ending that makes it all worth it. Have your tissues ready as their story plays out, as it is truly a heartbreaker with an unexpected conclusion. **I was gifted “Break It Down” via Booksprout, leaving my review based on my reading.** 5 Stars well deserved!
Welp. Another INCREDIBLE addition to this series and I will say again, this NEEDS to be adapted to television. There’s a serious level of tragedy in the fact that there’s an entire audience missing out on these books because they prefer film to page. These are such fantastic books and everyone needs to read them.
It has been decided, I have been on the fence for a while but, Lincoln is my favorite. I understand this isn’t his book but y’all, he’s just too loud of a character to hang back at the sidelines. His interactions with the others, whether they’re the main focus or not, have seriously been breaking points for all the books. His humor keeps the tragedies these characters face from drowning us. And this book does have tragedy.
Tragedy and triumph. It was about dang time to! Ian had a hill to climb with Chloe and I’m so so glad she didn’t make it impossible for him. Especially once the real hardship kicked in. This book, while they’ve all hit hard, crashes into you in a whole other way. I was literally breathless. Be prepared because it’s a doozy.
I’ve never read a series like this one. Never come across an author like this. Being able to write characters that live off the page is an incredible feat and April does just that. She’s a stunning writer and I feel absolutely blessed to have come across her.
