Chloe
A folded up flag is all that remains.
My older brother lost, in a mission gone wrong.
And every single day, I face the man responsible.
The man who couldn’t save him.
I’m not stupid.
I know he’s watching me.
Waiting for his chance to rescue me.
But he can’t. No one can.
All I want is a second chance at the future I should have had.
Before the misery Ian Keller brought into my life.
He … had.
Before the misery Ian Keller brought into my life.
He owes me, and he knows it.
So when I show up to claim the debt, I don’t expect a fight.
Especially not one that leads to the best sex I’ve ever had.
Now I just have to convince him to let me go.
Because I’m not strong enough to walk away.
Ian
Her tears pour ice through my veins.
We both know there’s nothing I can do to stop her pain.
The sight of her holding that flag will haunt me until the day I die.
One night. One mistake. One failed mission.
Two families ruined forever.
I know the right thing to do is walk away.
Especially when I see rage in her eyes.
Chloe Young doesn’t need the trouble I’ll bring her way.
There’s only one thing I’m good for.
And it sure as hell doesn’t include fixing her.
With my expertise, I can break her down and tear her apart.
But I can’t put her back together again.
Not that she wants me to.
She’s stronger than she thinks.
Which she’ll have the chance to prove.
Because I have one more mission.
I have to walk away, leaving her behind.
And when I come home, she’s mine.

Oh my, how emotional was this one! I couldn’t put it down. Ian and Chloe’s journey to HEA was definitely not easy. They were about to get married when her brother was killed. She immediately pushed him away after that. But I loved how Ian just kept pushing and didn’t give up on her though. All the feels these two give me though! Their story was filled with so many twists and turns, heartbreak. But they will keep you guessing. I can’t wait for the next book.
This is the 4th book in this awesome series and is Ian and Chloe’s story. These two have loved each other since childhood, but when Chloe’s older brother Kevin, and Ian’s best friend is killed in the marines, Chloe blames Ian and breaks off their engagement. Chloe is devastated and lashes out at the person closest to her, and that is Ian, but he is not going to give up and let her get away. Kevin leaves a bucket list for Chloe, Ian, and his closest friends, but will this bring them back together? This is a well written emotional roller coaster which is intense, and filled with loss, grief, tragedy, healing, angst, suspense, danger, intrigue, humor, and love, which leads to an entertaining and all-consuming riveting page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
I love it!!! Suspenseful, surprising, sexy, emotional and of course the military theme throughout. This series never disappoints! I love the authors way to write stand alones but also have a perfect flowing series. The books are the perfect length and are suspenseful without ever being drawn out to the point of annoyance. I know the series only has 5 but man I could read 10 with these themes (hint hint!). This book is just plain FANTASTIC and I am in pins and needles waiting for Logan & Teri! I follow this authors newsletter & Instagram and was able to receive this book as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review
Emotional and angsty but so good. Ian and Chloe have a hard road head of them with the loss of her brother but I loved how Ian just kept pushing and didn’t let her get away. There is a twist at the end that left me reeling and I can’t get this story out of my head.
First things first I’m going to ask you an incredibly important question: Have you read the first three books in the Birch Police Department series? If the answer is “no” then I need you to please put this book down and pick up the first one.
I already made this mistake for you so you don’t read this book overwhelmed and confused by the numerous characters you’re supposed to already know and their histories. These books do not work well as standalones.
I survived the book, though, and it was really well done and emotional and fun and wonderful for a large chunk of it. I cried a lot (basically right off the bat), I was smiling, and I was really enjoying what I was reading, but then the last 15-20% kinda went off the rails? And I lost it (both with the book and mentally). At that point I just kind of wanted to move beyond whatever choices were made and pretend only the first 85% existed.
Regardless, this book was steamy, it was really enjoyable (for the most part) and I definitely would read more from April Canavan in the future. Next time, though, I know to start with book one.
Many thanks to Wildfire Marketing for my review copy!
Break It Down by author April Canavan was a beautifully written story that gives you all the feels; you’ll experience many different emotions throughout this book along with a few unexpected twists. Ian and Chloe’s love was tested when her brother didn’t come home from a mission and they must overcome broken promises to get their HEA. I loved Ian who never gave up on Chloe no matter what. He helped her find her inner strength to live and love. The witty dialogue and banter among all the characters was top notch. And as always, Nox is a scene stealer whenever he’s in them and I simply adore him as well as little Bee. This series just keeps getting better and better and I’m really looking forward to reading the next book.

Chloe and Ian are the sweetest damn couple!! This story had me at the edge of my seat waiting for something bad to happen, because this story is too sweet but heartbreaking at the same time!
Ian and Chloe have that unmistakable bond from an early age that can’t be broken. And you feel all the emotions they go through trying to figure it all out.
The suspense of this story will keep you guessing and the love in this story will melt your heart!
I love this couple so much, and all the other couples too. I loved the bond that they all share even through the loss they endured.
These character are ones you love and don’t want to leave, and you won’t want this story to end.
This is a first read for me by this author and indeviured this story. This book gave me sommany feels.

I loved this book! In Break It Down, the 4th in the Birch Police Department we follow Chole’s and Ian’s story. Chole has just lost her big brother Kevin while he was serving in the Marines. She is beyond devastated as he was her last living relative. Also devastated in Ian, Chole’s former fiancé’ and her brother’s best-friend. Ian and Chole have loved each other since they were children. When Chole loses Kevin, she lashed out at the person she loves the most Ian and breaks their engagement. But old Ian, he’s a therapist and knows a little bit about Chole and her actions. When Kevin leaves bucket-list for Chole, Ian, and all his close friends, Chole realizes that Ian is not to blame and the two eventually find their way back to each other.
Things are not easy going for Chole and Ian. Circumstances change and both Ian and Chole find themselves in precarious situations that they have to fight to get back to each other.
This is my favorite book of the whole series so far. It was really emotional as Chole worked through losing her brother and trying to begin healing for that and then Ian is called out for a dangerous job that she might also lose him too? It was a roller-coaster! I loved that we find out about past characters and what is going on in their lives. Chole’s character is funny and provides lol moments (she loves some chicken nuggies too). I was so glad that they got their HEA ending.April Canavan
Miss Canavan broke me and put me back together with this incredible book! I couldn’t put it down!
Another great book to this series, it was an emotional journey for Chloe as her brother Kevin is lost overseas, her grief pushes Ian and her brothers friends away from her because of it. Ian doesn’t give up hope that he and Chloe are still meant to be, therefore his love really shows in this story. When Chloe and Ian’s group of friends find out Kevin left a will stating that they’re doing a bucket list together, relationships start to renew and their bonds as friends become deeper as a family. There was also some very funny and heartfelt moments between all characters and some good suspense thrown in that left me pondering at times if I was right or not.

Wait for the big shocker towards the end, it won’t leave your eye’s dry!
I’ve already read their pervious stories but this one I feel is much more emotional. This might be a stand alone but I would strongly suggest reading the others, especially when those couples plus the kids are in this story pretty much 85% of the time.
The next book will be of Logan & Teri’s story, so we can finally figure out what the heck’s happening with those two.
Break It Down follows Ian Keller and Chloe Young through their lost of Chloe’s brother and Ian’s best friend, Kevin. Before Kevin’s death Ian and Chloe were together and in love but through her grief she blames Ian for not protecting Kevin, her last living family member.
Oh my poor little heart. I was so heartbroken. The first chapter really got to me!! The way Chloe grieved for her brother was valid but I couldn’t help but to feel bad for Ian. While Chloe was giving up on them, Ian was completely patient taking every mean words spoken to him by the woman he loves, just knowing they’ll end up back together someday, how ever long it’ll take. He has spent his whole entire life pining after her and oh my god it was the cutest thing ever. And Nox is the cutest kid ever!!
I wish we had more glimpses of them growing up, it would have been so cute. And I wish there was a bit more of romance in the book but I get the whole family thing. I also cried like a baby with the unexpected surprise towards the end of the story.
This is my first book of April and I will be reading the rest of the series. April is a fantastic writer and I can’t wait to dive into each and every one of her books. I can’t recommend this book enough.

Grief affects people in all kinds of ways. Chloe pushed everyone away including Ian the love of her life.she blamed him but that man had the patience for a saint.
“Chloe. I threatened Ian with a knife and a deep grave if he ever asked you out. And you know what that he did? At fifteen years old, he told me to shove it up my a$$ because you were the sun and the moon and everything else in the sky and that one day he was going to put his ring on your finger, no matter what I did.”
This story had so much emotion and heartbreak but there was also joy and happiness, hilarious banter between all of these unique characters.
“I’m gonna murder every single one of you. Literally tie you down and spoon your eyes out with a rusty spork.”
There where some crazy twists I sure didn’t see coming. I love this series every book has its own trials to overcome. I can’t wait to see where she goes with Teri and Logan.
Holy shit is this an amazing story!!! I’ve loved each book in the Birch Police Department series, but this one blows the others away by an immense magnitude.
The death of Chloe’s older brother, Kevin, is beyond devastating. Her brother’s friends and their wives join her on an emotional journey to fulfill his last wishes. Spending time with their friends and pseudo family is healing.
This book had ALL the emotions and feels I could ever want in a book – as I laughed, cried, and gasped throughout the story all I can say is this book is just stunning in its emotional impact. Even though this book is about Chloe and Ian’s second Chance it’s an ensemble of all my favorite characters.
I LOVED this book so much and am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series between Terri and Logan.

Wow! What a roller coaster of emotions. Chloe has just lost her brother a Marine. He was the last family she had left. Being heart broken she takes her anger out on her fiancé Ian. She broke off their engagement and is shutting him out. But he’s not willing to give up on her. This was a good book. It was the first I have read from this series and I think it would have been better if I had read the others to know the other characters story. It definitely takes you on an emotional ride with some things I never saw coming.
Break it Down is the 4th book in the Birch Police Department Series and is Ian and Chloe’s story and holy crap on a cracker their story was AWEMAZNG!!! To say I loved this book would not do it the justice it deserves, and I don’t know that I have the words to convey how truly amazing April is with her writing of this book, but I’m gonna give it a go….this story has allll the emotions, and you feel so many different things in the span of one chapter. Chloe ends things with Ian because she’s grieving over the loss of her brother and she says and does some things that she doesn’t really mean and wishes she could take back. Ian and Kevin were best friends, so his death hits Ian pretty hard too. He wants to be there for Chloe, but she’s pushing him away, he doesn’t go all that far because he loves Chloe with everything he has and won’t give up on her, and then there’s Kevin’s “brothers” and their wives who are gonna be there for her as well. There is something that Kevin arranges for everyone that may just bring Ian and Chloe back together. There is also a couple of other things that happen that will rock everyone to their cores!! I am standing on the highest rooftop shouting my recommendation for this book, and all the books in this series!! Y’all are gonna want to read this!!
