Kinna hides in a remote village in the Mouth of Daylight, aka Kake, Alaska. She catches fish for money in the daylight and hunts for food by moonlight, all the while praying the Alpha of her ex-pack doesn’t find her. Because if he does, she won’t survive the encounter. That is, if the mysterious creatures in her own backyard don’t get to her first.Ren is a lone bear, separated from his pack by … from his pack by choice–he isn’t interested in being a part of a feral, non-shifting society that lives only for seeking blood instead of a way to prevent the worst of their curse. Ren seeks a cure, a cure that can only be found in a particular coven of witches–a coven that just happens to be long-dead.
Or so he thinks.

This is Kelley’s rawest, darkest series yet, filled with swearing, sexual situations, and violence. Intended for mature readers only.
This novel was previously published as “Branches for Cover.” Inner content remains the same.

2 alphas, one male and one female are drawn to each other yet do everything they can to fight it. Neither one initially trusts the other and the fact that one is a bear shifter and the other a wolf shifter doesn’t help matters either! There is lots of drama and violence to go along with the romance side of things. This is my first time reading anything by this author and I am planning on making sure it isn’t my last! Loved the book and look forward to reading more.

He thinks all the witches who could help Are long dead. He is in for a surprise. What is this surprise? Can she stay hidden? What about the monster she think is around there? Can these two meet? See if they do and if they were meant for each other

A great beginning to this series with carefully crafted, intriguing characters.
There is a lot going on in this book. A young woman hiding from herself as well as those that hunt her. But who is hunting her? Who is a friend and who is an enemy. And who is the man on a mission to save his pack? Plenty to keep a reader turning the pages with beautifully described scenery as well as shocking scenes.
My one complaint… Why does this have to end without completing the story. Yes, it’s a series, but really??? Soooo frustrating, but exciting too as obviously I will now have to continue reading!
This was definitely a different type of book from what I usually read. In all the shifter romances I have picked up, I’ve never come across one in which the shifter is more than that so the idea of a wolf-witch was fascinating. I also liked the idea of a shifter bear because that’s just not something you see very often.
This story is studded with Alaskan lore that blends wonderfully into the story. The characters are three-dimensional and the tension between them is beautifully written. I always love stories with a strong female lead, and this book definitely had that in Kinna.
If you’re a fan of dark erotic paranormal pieces, this is the read for you!
Can’t wait for Kate Kelley’s next!
I have never been a fan of shapeshifter stories, mostly because authors did too much explaining about how it all worked, but The author brought me into their world and I felt like I was there. There is great scene description, conflict and dialogue, action and emotion. The characters are well-drawn with realistic problems–well, I guess they are realistic to shifters. It really felt that way. Good going, Ms. Kelley!
Great Paranormal Shifter Romance!
Maybe one of the best Shifter books I’ve read. Two Alphas, Ren, a bear shifter, Kinna, a wolf-witch. Lots of conflict and tension between the characters. Very gritty, lots of action, some steamy moments. The author knows how to set a scene and describe the action. There are creatures in this book that the author draws from mythology and brings to life in a very real and terrifying way. The two main characters have tremendous chemistry and I want more!
Kelley has a nice writing style, good dialogue development and good editing. What’s not to love?
Will definitely be tuning into the second installment in this series.
