Boystown Book Three written by Marshall Thornton (audiobook narrated by Brad Langer) contains two novellas that follow one behind the other within the series’ timeline. In the first novella, ‘Little Boy Boom’, Private Investigator Nowak’s car is blown upright as a man is stealing it and he is greatly motivated in finding out who wants him dead so badly. In addition, a conniving fiend from a previous case (‘Little Boy Fallen’, Book One) practically gets away with murder. With ‘Little Boy Tenor’, Nick is asked to looking into the murder of a young gay choir member who was shot before making his way to the church for rehearsal. The entire series allows us to follow the life of Private Investigator Nick Nowak who was outed as a result of a gay-bashing incident, and his professional and personal growth over the course of six years. In addition to being incredibly entertaining, the Boystown books highlight how much progress has been made by the LGBTQ+ community and yet it underscores what work has yet to be accomplished.
The third book the Boystown series pulls no punches. Nick not only has to figure out two different and dangerous mysteries, but also struggles with the changes in his personal life. His boyfriend continues to get sicker and sicker, and no one knows why. This weighs heavily on Nick, but he refuses to self-reflect and analyze his feelings. Like the previous two books in this series, Marshall Thornton writes a fascinating and engaging book that’s packed full of emotion, sex, mystery, and action.
A MAN OF MANY TALENTS AND LOVERS
I received this book for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review
This is a compilation of two stories about Nick Nowak, a former policeman turned private investigator. Nick is a very promiscuous person who gets involved in all types of illegal activities. He takes on jobs and find out the answers to them although it is in a roundabout way. He makes for interesting reads. The story takes place when AIDS is beginning to show up in the 1980s.
Nick Nowak, PI, floow his work and love life that all seem to be threaded together.
Great series, well written and great narration. A must read.
The whole series is very good. Thornton’s best. Wish there were more.
I’m reviewing the audio edition of these stories. I’m not sure I know where to start on these stories. As usual the mysteries are really good. Yet it seems that in these stories Nick is at a place in his personal life that drew my attention probably as much as solving the mysteries. Nick is at a crossroads. He has a few opportunities to choose which way his life is going to go. Daniel enters back into Nick’s life and at the same time he has Harker to make decisions about. Harker’s mom plays just enough a part to make me shake my head and sometimes just laugh. Nick has not slowed down on his sexual activities. I love this series. I read a lot of different books and I’m not sure what actually draws me to these stories yet I can’t set them aside. Maybe it’s just the mysteries and Nick’s personal life makes me feel that these are not at all the run of the mill.
