In a split second, life can steal a last breath … and derail all future plans. While flying home after a phone call that left me heartbroken, a row to myself would have been ideal. Instead, I was unknowingly sitting shoulder to shoulder with a strikingly attractive single dad and ex-Marine. I could have pretended not to notice the man, but there was something familiar about him. It didn’t take …
It didn’t take long before I pieced together where I knew him from or why he was back in my life.
With chaos holding me hostage, I wanted to hide but couldn’t avoid Brett Pearson, our old family friend, and my teenage crush, because he kindly offered to help out with my family’s business—The Barrel House.
Handling my father’s distillery would be a distraction from my brutal reality. Except, I never paid close attention to the art of making bourbon, unlike Brett, who was full of bourbon knowledge. He offered to teach me a thing or two, but all I could focus on was the way his lips moved when he spoke to me.
I needed to grieve, and my head was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but my heart was splitting at the seams.
Bourbon was spilled, drinks were shared, but could passion ignite from a dying last wish?
*Bourbon Love Notes is a small-town second-chance angsty romance.

Ever since I heard about this series I couldn’t wait to pick this book up! I got into this story from the get go which I loved!
Well written, captivating, emotional, raw and a page turner. The sexual tension between Melody and Brett is undeniable. The emotional storyline of losing a father and Brett helping Melody to come to terms with her father’s passing. This book has it all. Such a beautiful read. Can’t wait to read the next chapter. There has got to be something more between Journey and Brody. Thank you Shari.
I feel like I read a different book than everyone else. Yes Melody came back home because her daddy was dying and that is the part I felt she was feeling and that would understandable to be heartbroken. However I didn’t find that she was heartbroken due to her relationship with Ace, she stated a couple of times that she was fine with it, that she wasn’t sad about it, she was more in love with the idea of being in love and that she wanted marriage and white picket fence. She ended up reconnecting with her teenage crush Brett. I didn’t feel the crushing love that these two had but was happy that they reconnected and were able to get there happy ending.
rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..voluntarily reviewed with my own thoughts and opinions..(booksprout)
Bourbon Love Notes is a very emotional read! From beginning to end, it has you all caught up in your feelings. It’s a tear-jerker, you can’t help but weep for this wonderful family and everything they’re going through. I cannot imagine losing my father, I would be absolutely devastated. Mel has so much going on and all these emotions swimming around her. Brett was just what she needed, and to find herself again. This is the kinda book that leaves you warm, like curling up in a chair with the sun coming in, or cuddled up with a warm blanket. Your heart feels it. I loved the characters. Journey and Brody intrigue you! Mel’s dad melts your heart! The Bourbon is fascinating to learn bits about. The name of this book was completely perfect! I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.
Bourbon Love Notes by Shari J. Ryan is the First book in The Barrel House Series. This is the story of Melody Quinn and Brett Pearson.
When Melody learns of her father illness came back and he is terminally ill. Melody leaves her current life which included breaking up with a boyfriend to return home to be there for her family.
Melody’s father owns a distillery called the The Barrel House which she doesn’t really know how to run it. Melody is reunited with her old crush Brett who is the son of her father’s best friend. Brett ends up coming forward to help her which puts them in close working conditions. This is their second chance at love. This book does have some emotional story lines so be ready for that.
Wow! With each book I read by this talented lady, I can see more and more how her heart is poured into all of her words. This story flows beautifully and took me on an one heck of an emotional ride that left me feeling raw and vulnerable at times while other times I felt elated and hopeful. I smiled, I laughed, I cried; I think I felt ALL the feelings as the characters were feeling them and that is something I love to happen when I am reading. The storyline is incredible, but it is the depth and strength of these characters that pulled me in from the beginning and entertained me thoroughly while playing with my heart and soul throughout. Brett and Melody are amazing characters as are all the others we meet in this story. But it is their relationship that blooms and grows throughout the story and it is a beautiful experience. They are perfect together! I cannot stress enough how much I loved this book and cannot wait for the next book. Bravo Shari!
I won this ebook from a Goodreads giveaway and I couldn’t wait to read it. It has all the feels that make a story really good.
Melody and her boyfriend are in a rut, same thing every day. They have been together for several years and nothing is going to change soon. When Mel gets a letter from her Dad, she calls home and gets some bad news. Her Dad is sick again and it doesn’t look good this time. On the plane home, she sits by this man that looks familiar but she can’t place him, maybe she is just distracted about her Dad.
Brett is headed back home to help a family friend who is dying. On the plane, he sits by a girl who looks familiar, but he can’t place her.
When Me! !earns exactly what is happening with her Dad, she is shocked. And the guy from the plane turns out to be Brett, her high school crush and her first kiss. And her ex-boyfriend shows up trying to win her back.
Can Brett help her through the pain of losing her Dad? Will she finally get the ex-boyfriend to see their relationship was over a long time ago? Will working with Brett at The Barrel House bring them closer together?
I loved this story and can’t wait to read Journey’s story.
This is the 3rd book I’ve read written by Shari Ryan; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This was a good read. Melody is coming home to spend time with her family now that her father doesn’t have much time left. While here she runs into the attractive guy from the plane. Comes to find out she had a past with him. While dealing with the loss of her father she falls in love and in the end she gets her happy ending.
Melody and Brett’s story was amazing. A beautifully written book that takes you on an emotional journey. Loved the whole thing!!
This was an emotionally charged story filled with loss, love and finding your way. It touches on illness, family bonds and second chances.
Melody and Brett have experienced so many things in their 10 years since seeing one another, things that shaped their lives in whole new ways. When an illness brings them both back home, they have to navigate their new friendship and work relationship to get through some hard times.
I really liked that this story is told in two parts, to an extent. It gave us time to absorb the issues and grow with the characters. A time before for Melody and a time after for Brett. It was a very touching story.
This story is very well written and the characters, Melody and Brett are whole, deep, meaningful and likable. The story is like love shining through the ashes of loss. While reading this story I could feel my heart shredding into tiny pieces, but it is well worth the tears.

Meeting Brett again on the way home wasn’t something she realized until she saw him at the Barrel House. After all, they hadn’t seen each other in a decade. With her father dying, the last thing she has is time for romance. She and her sister, Journey, will inherit the Barrel House. Journey isn’t interested in running it, but Melody can’t imagine letting this part of her father go. I really enjoyed how she took to learning all she could about bourbon and how Brett was there to help her with whatever she needed. He was such a good man – especially shown in the circumstances of his daughter. I loved this book and enjoyed the notes in the labels more than I can express. I lost my mom to cancer, so this book touched me in the manner the durations were handled.

Melody hasn’t been living life, she’s just been existing. She settled into a life thinking that would make her dreams come true, but it didn’t. Instead she looks out the kitchen window watching other people live the life that she had imagined for herself. After receiving heartbreaking news, Mel breaks up with her live-in boyfriend and flies back home.
Though she’s never shown any interest in the family business, Mel has decided with her father dying, it’s time to learn, because she isn’t letting the multigenerational family business belong to someone that isn’t family – something she and her sister constantly butt heads about.
This is truly a heartbreaking story of a young woman who is trying to cope with the fact that her daddy’s days are numbered. She wants to continue his legacy and have it live on threw her, but she can’t do it alone. Enter Brett, a single dad, who was also Mel’s teenage crush and first kiss, who knows the business.
Can Melody truly have it all….a white picket fence, the family her heart yearns for and keep her father’s business thriving? After reading this book, I think we all need a sip of bourbon or two!
