Hiding Out in Paradise
So what is better than a nice HEA romance with interesting characters and plot? Why, three of them–especially in a series so you can get to know the community and families. I originally read/listened to these tales one at a time and had to wait between books to continue the journey. Now you don’t have to wait! Here are my original reviews on the separate titles:
—-
Hide Your Heart (Bounty Bay #1)–Learning to Trust
Rural New Zealand isn’t quite the polar opposite to New York City, but close enough for a former model hiding from herself. Trigger warning–spousal abuse. This is not described horribly or graphically but enough is shared to make its point. There is also some fairly steamy but, again, not graphic, sex. But there is also struggle and redemption, and a heroine who’s not afraid to tackle an overgrown yard with a chainsaw besides knowing her way around the innards of an automobile. Plus we can enjoy a wonderful child and dog and lots of fun moments on the journey.
I had the pleasure of hearing Rose O’Toole narrate the story and she is a gifted vocal actress but does not quite capture the (to American ears) strangled vowels of down under. She does best when she hints at the sound rather than trying to replicate it (once past the first chapter) but her feel for emotion, pacing, and character are superb.

Know Your Heart (Bounty Bay #2)–Author Versus Actor
I enjoyed the first book in this series so much I immediately started in on the second. Narrator Rose O’Toole has become quite comfortable with providing a slight Kiwi twang to the characters’ speech without going full boat (which would likely be as incomprehensible for Americans, at times, as we probably are to them), and had me happily immersed in the troubles of a struggling actress and first novel writer fighting mutual attraction. Deeper issues of controlling behaviors and perceived abandonment provide insight and basis for conflict, adding dimension to a Rom-Com HEA.

Teach Your Heart (Bounty Bay #3)–Open Your Heart To Love!
Gracie, another member of the dysfunctional Cooper family (we met her brother Glen in Book 2), had been bouncing around Europe but has now found her way back to her childhood playground, Bounty Bay. Here she meets a group of children whose parents died tragically and whose uncle is also wrestling with his grief and feelings of loss. Although the interrelationships of characters from one book to the next provide a small town feel to the series (and there is continuity of action in the grander arc), each romance in the series stands alone beautifully. Narrator Rose O’Toole has come fully to grips with a light Kiwi accent which imparts the romance of New Zealand without burying us in the extremes of pronunciation variants, and convincingly acts the children with equal expertise as the lovers and their parents and grandparents, bringing to life this delightful novel. Each is better than the last!
