Freja, rescued from the flesh markets of Silvelea at a young age, has learned firsthand how difficult life is for orphan girls on the planet of Devmaer. Her “rescue” landed her in the harsh world of Matron Cass Warren’s Girls Crib, where young girls are groomed to be sold off as mates to the highest bidder as soon as they reach maturity. At eighteen Freja was drawn to Déak Ryba, the first man to … man to ever show her kindness. But he didn’t stand a chance against Iwon Sándor’s money and power. Iwon claimed Freja’s hand, condemning her to a miserable life of abuse and neglect.
After three long-suffering years, Freja’s matehood was cut short by his untimely death.
For the first time in her life Freja finds herself free – free to work like a slave to repay the staggering debts Iwon left her. During her final ritual as his widow, a freak accident sweeps her out to sea and remarkably, right back into Déak’s arms.
Can the love that Déak and Freja once shared possibly have survived long years of separation? Will they finally claim the shared life that was denied them? Or will their happiness be stolen again by the sinister forces circling at the edge of their lives?
Disclaimer: Bound to the Past, is a second chance, fantasy-world romance. Along with a happily-ever after ending, it has some very steamy scenes, including elements of power exchange and discipline.

Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters are interesting. Once I started I could not put the book down from start to finish you just could not get enough with twists and turns hot and steamy like a rollercoaster ride of emotions that makes you want more with the chemistry and romance.

Bound to the past is a prequel. It’s a fairly short, more a novella really, addition to the Lighthouses of Devmaer series. This is the first of the series I read, so there are probably some things about the world that I’ve missed. I would suggest reading the others first to get up to speed on the world because there’s a lot background that I had to guess at, but I really enjoyed it so I’ll be checking out the others next.
If you enjoy power-exchange relationships with domestic discipline (spanking) then you’ll probably like this. The scenes are very well written, and I found myself wanting to know more about these characters and their adventures.
It’s clearly sci-fi and takes place on another planet but we didn’t see too much that was out of the norm for Earth so even if you don’t care for sci-fi you’ll probably be fine with this. Their culture seems both advanced in technology and old fashioned in society at the same time. Men dominate and women must submit but in some ways the women still have some power over their lives which is nice I have trouble getting into books where the women are entirely subjugated.
The lighthouse intrigued me as it seems it’s a focal point for mated pairs to visit and experiment with BDSM and I’m not entirely sure how it meshes with everything, but I have a feeling (judging by the series name) that it’s important. Can’t wait to read more!
Libby Campbell is a new author to me, so I do not know what her other writings are like. But having read this book, I am optimistic that I will enjoy her other books. From the book description, this is a prequel to a new series so it was a short read, but it was surprisingly a good read. Because it was a prequel it did not go too far in depth on the characters or the story line, but it was good – second chance at love story with a touch of domestic discipline thrown in. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I am sure, based on what I read, that I will enjoy as well.

I enjoyed this prequel to The Lighthouses of Devmaer. Freya was bought as a child to become a domestic. When she turned 18, she was expected to take a mate for a four year mating period and then she was free to do what she wished. She should have had the choice of a mate, but she didn’t. She was coerced and then sold. Her mate died and she meets up with her first love. They proceed to have a HEA. I enjoyed the introduction to this new world and can’t wait for the next book. Wow, what a great start to a new series. I enjoyed Deak and Freja story. Sweet but spicy at the same time. Deak was the perfect mate for Freja. He understood her needs and made sure to meet them. A very enjoyable story. I can’t wait for the next story.
