When I went to my neighbor’s apartment to investigate strange sounds, I never expected to fall through a portal into another world. Yet here I am, a stranger in an even stranger land…and I’m stranded. In this world, might makes right, men carry swords, and gods walk the earth. Within minutes of arriving, I’m enslaved.Fun place. How do I get home? GREAT question. Wish I had an answer. The one … answer.
The one person that might be able to help me is also the one person I want to throttle most. Aron, Lord of Storms, Butcher God of Battle, is my new companion. Or rather, I’m his. As Aron’s anchor to the mortal realm, I’m the one that’s supposed to be guiding him through his exile in the mortal world.
Ha. Joke’s on him. I know nothing about this place.
But Aron and I have a common goal – get home. And we’re bonded – anchor and god – with a bond unlike any other. So we travel together. We bicker. We bathe together. We fight our many, many enemies together. And sure, he’s a god, but he’s also an arrogant jerk. Brawny, smoking hot, irresistible jerk. I should want nothing to do with him. I certainly shouldn’t want to do things to him.
Mortals and gods don’t mix. We stick to the plan and ignore our attraction. Focused, with one goal in mind.
One task. One goal.
Focused.
I—oh heck, I’m going to end up kissing him again, aren’t I?

Ruby Dixon may have accomplished the impossible. I rarely read fantasy; it isn’t my favorite genre. Not that I don’t like fantasy, but I’m spoiled. I cut my fantasy reader’s teeth on JRR Tolkien, and no other author can compare – until this new world of gods and anchors, of cycles of Anticipation and purification. This world of Aos is coherent and well-realized. It has history, cultural icons, lore, and a deep connection to its pantheon of less-than-perfect gods and goddesses. Faith’s fated journey to this new reality is thrilling, amazing, amusing, tragic and ultimately triumphant, and I loved walking it with her. I’m so glad Ms. Dixon made time away from her wonderful dragons, Messakah warriors, and Barbarians to share her fantasy with the world. We need more of this!
This book is a devouringly scrumptious read and Dixon’s best work yet. This is a phenomenal world to lose yourself in and deliciously long enough to truly savor the slow burn and “Oh my GOD” moments — of which, there are plenty. Enjoy. I know I did.
I typically love anything to do with Gods, and fated couples, so this book was immediately added to my TBR. And while I did mostly like this book, I felt like I would have liked an abridged version so much more. I did the audio version, which might have helped in one regard (I might have dnf’d the ebook) but it also hurt in another (I wasn’t in love with the narration). So, while I’m still intrigued by the plots, I’m not sure if I’ll continue the series, especially since the next book is even longer.
Longer than most of her other works, but really good.
This series is my favorite of Ruby Dixon’s. I wish she would write more of this world!
If I had been “forced” to read this in high school instead of “The Iliad” I might have made it past the first chapter. I would not have needed Cliffs Notes.
Faith starts as a boring cog in the corporate world, hearing voices and thunder. She worries briefly that she is going insane, but opening the door into another world was not expected. The transition is masterful; she walks into a realistic Roman world filled with mud, trash, and narrow streets. Unfortunately for her, she has no idea that unaffiliated women equal slave bait.
Caught and enslaved, Faith goes with the flow (When in Rome, do as the Romans do…). This is shockingly refreshing. I would be crying Freedom, beligerantly unresponsive. Faith, however, finds her inner Liaison, even as she is marched with 20 other sacrificial victims to a festival in the name of a war god, Aron.
After Aron appears unexpectedly, she volunteers to be his anchor, rather than die. Normally that means the human keeps the God sane, but she manages to be the diplomat to his war and anger. I love her spunk. Aron is the ultimate in possessive lovers. The people they meet along the way seem real, too.
It is an epic read…and I mean that in all ways. It took a week of eyes-glued, constant reading. The subcharacters always mention her name. Faith in a world full of true believers and present Gods, and the absolute lack of faith from Aron’s followers.
The description of orgies, games of Tag rather than true fighting at one city, the little details make me think Ruby Dixon spent months on creating the world. I just love the world.
One of the authors I follow mentioned this novel, and I was interested in finding a Gods and Mortals kind of story; boy did this deliver!
I absolutely loved this fantasy romance! It was a long book and it took me almost two weeks to read it since I’m a super slow reader, but it kept me hooked the entire time. The slow burn romance was fantastic and was the real driving force for me to keep turning the e-pages 😉 Honestly, the build up to Faith and Aron’s relationship was almost better than the actual culmination of their coming together romantically. But the romance wasn’t the only thing to love about this book. The world building was exceptional and the gods and Anticipation was so original and fascinating. It was so creative and fresh, and I loved how strong yet vulnerable Faith was. I highly recommend this one!
Oh, Aron!!!! I devoured every page of this book and loved it. If you love fantasy romance this one is for you. It has elements of Fantasyland and GoT in there and I didn’t hate it.
I absolutely loved this story!
I didn’t think I’d be into it, since fantasy romance usually isn’t my thing, but it’s GREAT.
Fantasy romance isn’t usually my jam, but this book is GREAT.
I love an epic fantasy time-travel romance as much as the next nerdy romance reader- but this one is on a level unto itself! This book is ridiculously long, and yet I couldn’t put it down. No saggy middle. I kept going, wanting to come back to it again and again. Basically, never a dull moment – which is hard to do with a book this long!
The heroine is funny and feisty, I really enjoyed taking this journey with her. And the hero is crazy-arrogant and of course it was delightful watching him fall hard. There’s lots of terrific fantasy world building, action, humor, hot sex, road romance, tragic nail-biting moments and of course a hard-earned HEA.
This is a different type of offering from Ruby and she hit it out of the park.:))
This is a different story than this Author puts out and I loved it. Aron, Lord of Storms, Butcher God of Battle is cocky, arrogant, and I liked how in his own way he cared for Faith from the start. I would like to see more of the Gods’ stories. I read this book through KU and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This was a hoot from start to finish. What did it have? fun filled moments, intriguing story line, some great world building and super engaging characters that blended so well together. Loved the way Faith just kind of sighed, shrugged and accepted Aron for his arrogant ways given the aspect of himself he portrayed, no whining, huffing and stamping her feet. And Aron, for all his arrogance was just plan fun to read as a character. Loved the way the two fitted together and the way their relationship developed naturally along the way. If you’re looking for something uplifting, easy to read with characters you care about then get this one. It’s super long so you’ll get your money’s worth.
Ruby Dixon does it again; this book was amazing! The characters are well developed and you immediately get sucked into the story. It’s nice to see a heroine that can hold her own against a God. I hope that Ruby continues to write more and make a series out of it.
I’ve always really enjoyed Ruby’s books, but this one has to be my all-time favorite of hers. It has all the funny, sexy goodness of her other books, and this one takes place in a fantasy world that I find really intriguing. I love the world building and I’m really hoping to see more books set in this world. Particularly Rhagos’s book! I am such a sucker for “gods of death” romances. But back to this book and not the phantom as yet untold story I have my fingers crossed for.
Aron was delightful in that sexy, arrogant way that I personally love in a romance hero. Faith was incredibly charming and relatable. I loved them both, and also loved the side characters that were introduced, enough to really hope for their stories. Especially Yulenna’s!
I highly recommend this one! It has reignited my passion for fantasy romance and made me want to return to my own fantasy universe for another story or two.
To-date, this is Ruby’s best work yet!
When I read through the synopsis, I won’t lie, I was a bit iffy on reading this one. Don’t get me wrong I love Ruby’s Dragons and her IPB books are pretty awesome (some are a little eh for me). So I went into this was hesitant but came out at the end ecstatic and wishing there was already more written!
Faith and Aron’s journey to find a way to help Aron ascend once again is funny, heartbreaking, frustrating, and at times seems almost impossible. I enjoyed that as their journey progressed Faith was able to show Aron how out of touch with humanity he had become, in other words believing he was better, because he is a God. But even Gods have enemies and some of Aron’s were a bit closer to home than he even thought.
I’m hopeful that Ruby will be giving up more Gods stories in the future! I can’t wait to see how many more are changed because of their anchors.
Oh the laughs!! i freaking loved it!!! Ruby you are amazing!! This couple was hilarious!! the bickering back and forth was straight up the best! Aron God of war and thunder meets Faith from Earth who is clueless how she ended up on his world. But crazy circumstances she bounds herself to him and let the survival begins! They both dont like each other, in-fact they constantly fight like Al and Peggy from Married with children . Read this!!! its a must!
Ruby is Awesome! her characters make you want to drop your panties.
Fantastic fat juicy all encompassing epic read of a book!
Filled with gods and warriors and asskicking.
I loved that ruby went outside her comfort zone of her blue dudes and dragon men and wrote this book. It’s so totally different from her usual trope/works but it worked so so well for me.
A whole new world that rang with the clash of weapons. I love me some bloodthirsty hulking man gods!! A totally unexpected but much appreciated and enjoyed book!!
I really loved faith, as a character she was both amusing and entertaining. Her interactions with Aron were truly brilliant at times, I just wish we could of had some of around perspective and internal thoughts too.
