DanteMy life’s a tale of betrayal.I killed so many because they betrayed our cause, because they betrayed the Outfit.A hypocrite. A liar. A murderer. That’s what I am.Five times I betrayed the Outfit. With my blood I made a vow to our cause, swore my life to it, promised to put the Outfit first. Above all else.Five times I chose a woman over the good of the Outfit. I betrayed my father. My vow. … betrayed my father. My vow. My men.
You reap what you sow.
Would my betrayals destroy everything I swore to protect?
Valentina
On our wedding day I made a vow to stand by Dante’s side.
In good and in bad times.
To love him through it all.
Growing up in the mafia, I knew the challenges in our life would be numerous. I never expected them to tear at the very base of our family, of our existence.

Dante has sworn to put the Outfit above all else, but his life has been a series of betrayals against the organization and his men, all for the sake of a woman. Val has vowed to stand by Dante’s side, and she always knew that their life together would be full of dangers. Nothing prepared her for the devastating events that would threaten their very existance. Can their love and loyalty save them or will they become their downfall?
Dante has learned to hide his feelings, so that he can survive and protect those he loves. That doesn’t mean he is not a passionate man, a man who loves deeply. Val is his perfect match, loyal to him and determined to claim him. Dante is a fascinating character and in Bound by the Past his motives and feelings are revealed! I loved the suspense and action in the book, but also the scenes with Dante and Val! Intriguing and filled with unexpected twists, this book is amazing!
„I’m glad you came into my life and showed me that love is worth taking risks.”
I honestly admit that after reading Bound by Duty years ago I felt a slight insufficiency. That’s why I’m delighted that Cora decided to write another book about Dante and Val, which gave me a deeper insight not only into their relationship, but also into Dante’s character. And what I discovered made me love him even more than before.
The storyline in Bound By The Past spans over years and includes some of the situations we know from other Cora’s books. Seeing these events from the other perspective allowed me to understand how hard it was for Dante to be loyal to the Outfit and at the same time be a good husband, father or brother. Some of these situations were really heartbreaking and my respect for Dante has only grown. This book answers all the questions about Dante, Valentina, the Outfit and all its members. This story perfectly shows the path that Dante had to overcome to finally open his heart to his new wife, his struggles as a Capo, difficult decisions that he had to make to protect not only the Outfit, but also people close to his heart. This part shows this cold and ruthless leader from a whole new angle and I admire him so much! We can also see how Dante and Val’s marriage evolved. They’ve been through so much from the beginning, but every obstacle they faced made them stronger. Their chemistry and passion is still ever-present and it’s more potent than ever!
Cora Reilly proved once again that she’s the Queen of mafia romances. Bound by the Past is captivating, addicting and unputdownable. It perfectly shows the constant danger and brutality of the mafia world, but it also includes the most heartwaming and amazing love story. If there is someone who by some miracle didn’t fall in love with Dante and Valentina in Bound by Duty, then I guarantee that in this book they will!
I am not a big fan of Dante, I dont know if its because I love Luca, but he never really won me over. It’s not that I just love the familigia, or just them because I do like Remy and Nino. however I am dying. And am anxious because I know Cora is going to kill us.. there has to be a conclusion with Luca (my love) Dante these two hate each other with a passion and then we have Remo.. sweating over here
Bound By The Past …. or rather…. I’ve Bounded My Heart with Dante for…. FOREVER, AND EVER ??? Hashtag FACTS?
Dante and Valentina’s book is everything !!!!
I’m an emotional mess, right now. I was waiting for this book so impatiently, and now… I just can’t belive – DID I read THE END ??? How is it possible ??? I really feel like I’ve grown up into this world, into THIS Family…. Gah… I’m so not ready to say goodbye. I loved Dante in previous book(s) but this story made me fall in love with Him again, with every single paige, every next word and sentence from THIS BOOK.
Boud By The Past ??? Where, should I start?
It’s angsty.
It’s breathtaking.
It’s BEAUTIFUL.
And…. about the LOVE, Loyality and the hardest choices. CHOICES that can test/destroy everything what is close to our hearts.
It’s not story about Prince Charming and His Princess. Bound by The Past is a tale about the King, who wants to rule His world with respect. About THE Queen, who isn’t only a trophy wife. THIS BOOK IS A STORY about how to love and support each others, because THE LOVE…. THE FAMILY ARE THE ONLY THINGS THAT MATTERS.
Mrs. Rielly told us Dane and Val’s story in an oustanding way. This wasn’t only reading the book because all the events just flow by thru the paiges. Bound By The Past is for sure epic, and very highly recomended title!!!
Dark.Romance lovers, and other people too – jump into world of this dirty and raw men because they love hard, and possesive …. BUT with all their hearts !
Bound by the Past is the seventh book in the Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles Series by Cora Reilly.

We all first fell in love with Dante Cavallaro and Valentina Cavallaro back in Bound by Duty…It has been a few years. We all know that Dante is known for his Ice Prince and “Cold Fish” persona but in Bound by the Past, we definitely get to see more of what is going on. It is definitely has been worth the wait. We finally get an inside scoop inside Dante’s head.
Bound by the Past is just how it sounds, we travel back and see past events and spreads over many years. This book is mostly in Dante’s POV and getting to experience first hand his inner turmoil and what really goes behind his “Cold Fish” persona was such a huge roller coaster of emotions.
This was divided into five parts and from the very beginning part, it will shatter you so hard because getting to see everything first hand through Dante’s POV is intense and captivating. The extensive insight from the very beginning of Dante’s past all the way through his and Valentina’s marriage to more events in the future was truly gripping and it will catch you wanting more and more.
Cora structured the book into events that was very well thought out. Each event showed what shaped Dante and the Outfit. There are a lot of surprises that will catch you off guard. And there are a lot of scenes that you will absolutely love.
Cora, this was absolutely perfect. I cannot wait to see what else you have in store for us because this one just blew me and I am still recovering!
I think everyone who has read ‘Bound by Duty’ would know that it left you wanting to know more about Dante and had so many questions that were left unanswered. ‘Bound by the Past’ went above and beyond to articulate Dante’s and Valentina’s perspective on numerous events over a large amount of time. The bond that they share is unique and different compared to the other bonds the capo’s share with their wives in this mafia world.
Being inside of Dante’s mind was an interesting experience as you get to understand the reasoning behind certain decisions he makes, the paths he chose and how they have shaped not only his future but his family, the Outfit and his enemies. You come to understand why he is called ‘the coldfish’ but it is also entertaining to see how the nickname can be contradictory. I found Dante’s story quite sad and heart wrenching at times as you see certain events being played out through Dante’s perspective and you understand the deep impacts not only to him and the Outfit but also to his family. This book focusses a lot on Dante’s interaction with his family and it painted him in a new light, which was really nice to see. Reading about how he interacts with his children is heartwarming and you can say he certainly has a protective side! Dante is a very selfless and selfish person at the same time.
Valentina is a beautiful, loyal, smart (emphasis on this) and strong women who is not only a great wife and mother but also an asset to the Outfit. She compliments Dante very well and can make him see reason when times are dark. In ‘Bound by Duty’, you saw everything from Val’s perspective so when reading this book, it was very interesting to see how and why Dante resisted Val for so long. Valentina shows an amazing trait of leadership which is, personally, admiring for me as a reader because, in a lot of mafia based books, the females are more submissive. Also, I might just add, I think Valentina and Dante can give Remo and Serefina a run for their money in the bedroom… things got spicy!
This book made my heart sing with joy and sorrow at the very same time. It was certainly a rollercoaster of emotions but it was a beautifully written book. I already loved Dante and this book allowed me to love and appreciate him even more. Congrats Cora on another great book!

WOW!!! Bound by the Past is a treat that I wasn’t expecting.
First of all, this is not a standalone, you should read at least Bound by Duty (Dante and Val’s story) so you’ll understand this one, but honestly you should read all the Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles and then at least the 3 first books in the Camorra Chronicles, otherwise you will have major spoilers that will spoil all the other books in the series for you.
Let’s be honest here, Dante and Valentina were never among my favorites. To be honest I didn’t even like them very much, even though I really like how the story in Bound by Duty went by Dante and Val just never really catch my love. But BBTP changed my mind I do love them now! Being able to take a peak inside Dante’s head was crucial to me, to be able to understand him and understand the reason to a lot of things in Bound by Duty! I loved the whole book and I don’t want to give spoilers and its so hard to write this review without letting any slip by.
In this book we get to see the past of Dante, and it shows all of his betrayals to the Outfit. But more than that it gave me the feels, I felt so many feelings that I got whiplash, and loved every minute of it. We get to see Anna and Leonas, which I am so in love with them that I want their books right away PLEASEE CORA!!! You get to see Dante’s relationship with his family and with Val’s family as well. You get the see the man behind the Cold Fish mask. You get to see other characters that are so amazing you’ll fall in love with them and will cry at night because you don’t know if they’ll get a book and when that’ll happen. The secondary characters shone very brightly to me and I’m so anxious to read the stories of the future couples we saw in it. All in all this book was amazing, and I absolutely loved every minute of it! I could not put it down for the life of me.
Maybe this books won’t be to everyone’s liking (I don’t see how that’s possible but I know it happens) but one thing is absolutely clear to me, over the years of accompanying Cora’s work, at every release I get surprised with how much her writing keeps improving, don’t get me wrong it was NEVER bad, but it just keeps getting better and better at every book. If you’ve read my previous review of Sweet Temptation you’ll see that I said that was one of her best books, and I’ll just stop saying it because at every new books it just gets better and better and it just blows my mind. I’m a huge fan of Mrs Cora Reilly.
Read this book! It is amazing, FREAKING AMAZING!!!
Five Betrayed Stars
“Betrayal is punishable by death.
I killed so many because they betrayed our cause, because they betrayed the Outfit.
A hypocrite. A liar. A murderer.
That’s what I was.
Capo. Boss. Judge over life and death.
That’s why I was still here, not dead for my crimes, for my betrayal.” – Dante
The wait is over ladies, Dante Cavallaro is here and he did not disappoint. BBTP is everything I thought it would be and I devoured this book in one sitting. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again – Cora is undeniably one of the greatest mafia-romance authors out there. Her world-building is truly amazing and I just LOVE her books. So it was no surprise to me that BBTP was another 5 star for me. It’s been a few days since I finished and I am still thinking about all the things Dante.
“Carla had occasionally talked about purgatory when we’d discussed her belief. I’d always considered the idea of hell ridiculous. But today I experienced my own personal purgatory, and I dragged my family into the flames with me.” – Dante
We got to see so many scenes from previous books play out in Dante’s POV – some totally changed my perception of what I thought I knew when I first read them. It was crazy. Dante is calculating and he SEES ALL. I feel like I mistook his cold and quiet demeanour, reading his POV was a game-changer for me and I’m so glad that Cora wrote this book and how she did. It was perfect.
I cannot wait for more from Cora.
Bound by the Past is the 7th book within the Born in Blood Chronicles and it predominantly narrates Dante Cavallaro’s POV of his life and the many betrayals that lie within it.
We were first introduced to Dante in Bound by Duty, where he came across callous and calculated, being given the nickname “cold fish”, he certainly lived up to that title from what we were shown from his first book and the brief appearances of him from other books.
Bound by the Past shows anything but a cold, emotionless Dante. He is compelling and enigmatic and passionate, this man feels like no other. His emotions and turmoil throughout the various chapters of his life are like a whirlwind, ready to leave chaos and destruction behind, regardless of the consequences. The side to Dante that has never been shown before is gripping because he loves like no other. Cora Reilly drops the curtain on Dante’s facade and shows a man who fights himself to retain control before his emotions erupt like a raging volcano.
The book is broken down into five betrayals Dante has committed in order to protect those he holds dearest and loves the most, and with each another layer of Dante’s outer shell is peeled off and shows his inner anguish.
Any and all rational thoughts are thrown out of the window when it comes to Dante’s dedication and commitment to love and protect his family, they hold priority over everything else for him and rightly so. His unbreakable bond with Valentina and his children was heartwarming, he constantly proved how worthy he is of their love. Valentina is an unbreakable, strong, independent woman who is full of love, she is undeniably the strongest woman within their world. Her strength has allowed Dante to lean on her for support and advice, she shines within this book because she never cowers away from the brutality, she is the epitome of a real woman. The question that has been on everyones’ lips since Bound by Duty is whether Dante loves Valentina, sometimes words alone can’t answer questions but in this sense, his actions, inner turmoil, emotions, everything show that his love for Val is fierce and burning, like an inferno of lava ready to explode. Val is Dantes’ best friend and partner like no one else has ever been, their bond is strengthened by their undying love and respect for each other that has always helped Dante to recover from whatever he has been faced with. Their power is unlike any other which is why it makes sense why they are dubbed the ‘Power couple’, they’ve truly earned it. If you hadn’t before, be prepared to fall in love with this couple.
Those of you who have undermined Dante previously get ready to be blown away, although we know a lot of the events that have transpired, you aren’t ready for some of the twists and surprises that happened behind the scenes. The groundwork has already been set in motion and believe me when I say you will not see it coming, it will leave you anticipating for more.
The Outfit has followed tradition for long enough, a transition is about to come and this will change everything.
Readers have awaited this book for a very long time and for anyone who missed the Cavallaros, this one is for you. Reilly hits it out of the park, she has delivered it in a way that won’t allow you to recover or ever forget Dante Cavallaro.
This is Dante like we never seen(read) before
Been a fan of Dante since his book and I loved him then but I’m even more crazy about him now.
Guys, I promise you… he is so MUCH MORE than what was portrayed in BBD.
The love for his family fuels him. So many beautiful scenes, my heart couldn’t handle it.
Young D was but Daddy D…
I really hope you guys love this book because CR did such an amazing job with Dante’s beginning and how he evolved through the years as Capo, husband and father.
Oh… and IM SO DAMN EXCITED FOR THE NEXT BOOKS Cora omg so glad you did that.
So yes! The Book is LIVE & I can talk about how epic this book was!

Dante, he was a man following rules, it was ingrained in him from a very young age. The outfit is old school and Dante didn’t agree with most of it. Clearly by the way he betrayed the family more than once.
He was a tough and ruthless capo but a loving and protective husband and father. We get to read a side of Dante we knew very little about.
Val is as always a GREAT heroine, never meek or dull. She was such a loving and fun mom to Anna & Leonas. I enjoyed those moments!
Leonas? He was one of the best things of the story and I’m so excited for it!
Dante:5
Val:5
Chemistry:5
Plot:5
Romance:5
Five stars
This book “Bound By Past” was in the dual POV and we got to read about Dante’s feelings toward Val and further development in both MC’s relationship.
I loved this one more because this not only focuses on their relationship but also on the problems being caused by others and also gives insight in other characters love interest.
This book made me love Dante so much because he did so much Val and even betrayed outfit so many times to save her.
.
Oh. This book. Part of it tore my soul apart. It was great to read Dante’s early years, to delve a little into his teenage life. Also, I would love to read the scenes of Dante and Carla to understand what their relationship was like.
This book will evoke all your emotions. You will laugh, cry, feel angry, not understanding, disappointed, will melt from the sweet moments. But this is a guarantee that the book came out good.
Thank you to Cora that the story of the book came more from the face of Dante, that we understood more of his thoughts, what he feels.
Valentine is the Queen. There are no other words. I admired it with every page. Her scenes with children brought tears to my eyes.
Anna is a sweet bun. I can’t wait for her book.
Leonas-Oh my God. He’s so funny. I imagined it to others, but I liked what I saw in the book even more.
Beatrice-I hope to see her in future books.
Result: If you like books that contain the entire list of emotions, then this is for you. The story of Dante and Val was not simple. What they went through and who they became and what they got is worth reading.
Spanish & English Opinion – 5
ESP ::
¡Me urgen!
ENG ::
I absolutely loved this book. It was the first time I read it (and I decided to do so after rereading the book 2 of the series, which was a great thing to do!)
Dante was the Capo that stirred less emotions in me, but not after this book. It was amazing to get to know the man under the controlled face and actions. He’s fiercely protective of the ones he loves and he always let that love dictate his actions in the end. He has contemporary ideas in a world full of ancient rules and that’s interesting.
Val is his team. They are partners and lovers. She’s smart and he admires that and values it. They make each other better and that is my favorite part, their love, trust and dynamic. Also, the way they love their kids and how they educate them. Whenever they get torn between their world and their morals. It’s just stunning, interesting and original.
Now, I really want to know what will happen with Anna but also, Leonas! Need their books ASAP!
Aaah finally we get a sneak peek into Dante and who he is! This was much needed. I love Dante and valentina but definitely felt in her book we were missing his thoughts and I know alor of people didn’t like rehashing scenes but I kind of liked seeing what he was thinking throughout the scenes its definitely added a different layer. I love how he eventually came to feel about valentina and when eh said I love you…I swooned. I would have liked to have seen him do more capo style stuff to really see how he was but nevertheless thos was an enjoyable read
Cora Reilly ended Bound by Duty in a way of wanting more from Dante and Valentina. She truly showed the reasons behind Dante’s feelings and actions. I knew there was more to Dante and Valentina, Bound by the Past showed that. The character development was something i really liked.
Valentina Cavallaro always standing by Dante meant so much. They both have gone through a lot in Bound by Duty. Learning how to deal with their emotions and expressing them. I feel like this book finally showed just how strong of a foundation they have based on their relationship. I always see them as equals. She continues to be one of my favorite parts of this book because of the way she’s always there for Dante, both emotionally and physically.
Now, in this book I really felt for Dante. To have that much going on and still wanting to be there at all times for your family is tough. Though, he did learn to balance everything out. I really enjoyed finally have his pov and reading his thoughts towards certain actions of the past and present. The past scenes really interested me. To know just how his life as Capo began and the things he had to experience to become who he is in the present was definitely something.
All in all, this book really connected all the pieces. It really showed just how strong both of these characters have become. They truly got the ending they deserved and I am so happy that it was written so well.
Bound By the Past was one of the books I was waiting for and he obviously did not disappoint, forget that vision of Could Fish by Dante Cavallaro, in this book we have an incredible Capo and much more than that a wonderful father and husband. I confess that I was surprised when I met this new side of Dante and yes it was a very positive surprise. When I read Twisted Pride I was annoyed by Dante for the fact that he left his niece for 2 months in captivity with the enemy but when reading things from his point of view I really wanted to punch Remo Falcone (Another character I love).
The book gives us a feeling of farewell to see our characters grow and build a Family at the same time a sense of long duty, because if someone had a doubt, Dante and Val got their Happy Ending.
for me one of the strongest points of the book was Dante’s relationship with his family, especially with Valentina and the children. The way that the relationship between Dante and Val is told over the years is fascinating something delicious to see, I may be quite mistaken but after reading BBTP Dante and Val entered the top of my list of couples with the greatest chemistry of both Cora series (BIBM and Camorra). YES !! The Ice Man has nothing ice in this book, although this book is the “final book” of the BIBM Series he leaves several loose ends for future books by other characters (Bibi, Danilo, Anna, Orazio) and maybe even Dante and Val who knows ?. do I recommend reading? Yes!! I highly recommend it and I look forward to the future books that await us. Note
This book was one of my most anticipated reads! ever since Bound by Duty I was dying to read more of dante & val. Thank you Cora for fulfilling the wishes of your fans!
The story pans over the course of many years. We got to see the protective brother side of Dante and let me tell you, it made me love him even more if that’s even possible. without giving any spoilers I would just like to say that Cora has done an amazing job in unravelling the complexity of Dante.
and our Val has always been my favorite, not just as a character but as an inspiration too. The strong personality is someone, I believe, all girls would aspire to be. the way weaves through life while being a constant support to her husband is commendable.
we got serafina’s & remo’s POV in their book but this one gave us a peak at the family’s condition. goodness! That was heartbreaking. Cora has written their pain so beautifully, it would make you cry.
the way Dante handled the situation was exactly the kind of maturity i was expecting. no disappointments at all. He was pragmatic, sensible in his approach.
Eagerly waiting for the next generation’s books now!
THIS BOOK IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

All the stars in the sky for this book
The first time I read Dante’s first book, I didn’t like it. This time around, I did. With this one, I was fairly excited for it, but rather bored when reading it. I feel that while Dante has been central to much of what has been happening in the previous books, I didn’t need a rehash of what we already know. For example, when Serafina was taken, I didn’t need to know his perspective of that. Between my knowledge of him through his first book, and the Dante we saw portrayed in Twisted Pride, I got a handle on his inner dialogue as is. Other than him and Val having children, I didn’t feel like there was much progress for them. It was just their story alongside the other stories happening. I feel this book was just a tool to set the children’s books up.
Loved the dual narration, and the narrators successfully capture the calm, yet deep emotions, of both Dante and Val.
Having read or listened to all the books prior to this, the insight this book gave was well worth it. Things that seemed on the surface random, you find out they were strategic. I loved Dante and Val even more after knowing what they did, how they did it, and what went on in their heads and hearts. The moves they made, the things they knew about, the pain they felt, it all made them stronger, was for the good of everyone, and some things that seemed so cold, were really done with the warmest of hearts. It laid out a few things as well, and when you think about it, gives some deeper insight into the next generation of the Outfit. Dante and Val, their love, their strength, and their commitment to each other and their family over all others, that is the heart of the story, and the purpose of their hearts <3
