This story is equal parts tragic and happy because they’ve both been through so much but Kate and Ryke want to heal one another. He’s immediately drawn to this beautiful sad woman and even though she’s afraid to let him in, he wins her over by being sweet and kind and just wanting to support her in every way possible. They’re both carrying guilt that complicates their grief so nothing is simple but they make it work.
Their story is steamy and bittersweet but I loved every moment. I liked the characters right away and loved them both by the end, especially Ryke. Their pain is palpable in the beginning but they learn to deal with it together to get their HEA. This is my first book by the author but I’ll definitely continue the series.
Ryke and Kate are both experiencing tragic loss and are at different stages in their lives coming to terms with it. When they meet, Ryke offers Kate a job and their journey begins. Ryke had me in his corner all the way and his character touches you. Kate took a little time for me to get into because of her outlook. She is insecure and is afraid of opening up again because of what happened to her with the death and abandonment. Overall, this story draws you in and has you in their corner cheering for them to find happiness again.
BOUND BY GRIEF
After finishing Brenda Rothert’s Chicago Blaze Series, I was excited to move on to the Fire On Ice Series……And BOUND is just another reason I am a new fan of this author…She has the hockey thing down…but she’s also got the sensitive alpha male thing and the headstrong quirky female thing down too…And I could read her books every day…..
So…Jason “Ryke” Ryker is a forward for a Chicago NHL team, and a magnet for the opposite sex, but he’s had trouble moving on since his wife passed away….She wasn’t the love of his life, and the guilt about that smothers him, but they were married, and he did love her….so he starts grief counseling….
Kate has lived through her own heartache…After the father splits, Kate miscarries her baby and gets lost in a world of depression and grief…She graduated from college, but is having trouble finding a job, so she’s had to move back home with her mother, who….finally…convinces her to seek grief counseling….
Ryke sees how beautiful Kate is when she comes into his grief counseling session…but it’s more than that…After she tells her story, Ryke is more attracted to her than he’s ever been to any woman…and he needs to know more….
This is a good beginning to a series….it’s a good book….
Good read
I’m glad this book was recommended to me. This was a beautiful, sweet, emotional, and enjoyable story.
Some of the emotional strife gets repetitive

Bound was the first book in Brenda Rothert’s Fire and Ice series.
Jason “Ryke” Ryker and Kate Camden had both experienced tragic deaths. They met in a grief support group and Rothert developed the friendship that ultimately led to more.
I was a huge fan of Ryke, but Kate’s appeal kept declining the deeper I got into the storyline. I was sympathetic to Kate, but as the book progressed, I wasn’t empathetic. She annoyed me at 70% of the book when she was still whining to Ryke about his behavior before they even met. To me, her anger was illogical and didn’t seem to relate to her grief but was more a reflection of a weak personality. I craved a stronger person for Ryke.
In the end, although I wasn’t a huge fan of the heroine, I enjoyed the storyline. It was emotional and a journey of acceptance, forgiveness, hope and love. But most of all, it was a journey of healing, letting go and moving forward.
Great book, i love it
