I started this seres with book 5 and ended up wanting to go back and read from the beginning.
Bound was fun and enjoyable. It has a few different mysteries to keep us entertained and intrigued. I enjoyed the magical elements and meeting the three sisters; Lenore the youngest, Jayce the oldest, and Karin the middle.
Doyle is an interesting town with some interesting people. Karin takes us on our mysteries as she try’s to prove that her sister Jayce didn’t have anything to do with the murder in her coffee shop. Along the way she learns of a curse on their family and meets Nick a man who has secrets of his own, but she is still drawn too.
I had fun learning about the sisters powers, the curse on them, and going on the murder mystery. Their is a little romance blooming, but that’s in the back ground our main focus is the mysteries.
Bound was a great start to the series and a good introduction to the Bonheim sisters. I can’t wait to read on and find out what happens next.
Rated: 4 Stars
Fantastic! I also loved the spell recipes even though I haven’t tried them.
Kirsten Weiss has a flair for great storytelling and intricate mysteries which is even more evident in Bound (the kick-off to the Doyle Witch Cozy Mystery series). The characters are enchanting and ground the mystery with a heartfelt and emotional story that you won’t want to put down. You’ll find an immediate connection with each of the characters, especially Karin and her sisters. Weiss creates a bond with the characters that makes you feel at home with their family and you instantly become emotionally invested. The triplets are easily different with Weiss ensuring fine details went into separating their three personalities. You have wild child Joyce, bookish introvert Lenore, and worrier Karin, each personality perfectly fitting to the tone of the story. Karin is the protagonist and her worrying attitude makes her an easy target for being pulled into a murder mystery. She’s a character that is driven, compassionate, and determined which makes her the ideal sleuth to keep things going.
The mystery revolves around a deeper emotional plotline that finds Karin’s, Aunt Ellen in the hospital. As the story unfolds and secrets are revealed about Karin’s family and a curse, the worse that Ellen becomes leading to a heartbreaking conclusion. The family elements within the story are necessary for the tone to bring this world to life through Karin and her sisters. By getting to know the triplets and their aunt, you get to know the family curse and you immediately root for them to find a way to break it. The mystery has plenty of surprises and will lead you in circles until the killer is found. The story is undercut by the addition of Nick (who has a spark with Karin) in his search for answers about his missing sister. This search is woven throughout the mystery as murder and disappearances in the woods draw Karin in deeper into the dangers around her and the possible supernatural answers that await her. Bound is hard to put down with an addicting plotline, enchanting characters, a family curse, and lots of heart.
This is not your average witch cozy!! Kirsten Weiss knows her magic, and her characters are realistic and well-rounded. This is the first in a series of stories about the Bonheim triplets, all witches, but each with their own unique set of talents. I highly recommend this book and this series!
After reading this I had to buy the whole series! Such a great read
This book is very different from the usual paranormal mystery books I read. It is more deeply seeded in reality, as much as a book dealing with metaphysical things can. It is interesting from beginning to end, but I have to admit, there is definitely a lot going on. It’s not a book you are going to grab for a light-hearted read. It is one you will need to pay attention to, because it has so much intrigue you could miss something.
I really enjoyed the premise of this book. It takes place in a small town in California and deals with triplet sisters who happen to be witches, and approaches the concept in the most realistic way possible. Karin, Jayce, and Lenore are more like humans with natural magic, if that makes sense. The book is from Karin’s point of view, but we are able to get a sense of the other two sisters. Karin, being the main character, is the one we get to know the best, though. I felt her character is believable and smart, although, at times, she could be a little judgmental, but she became more self-aware, which made her even more redeeming.
There are other characters we get to know, such as Nick, her love interest, but he is still a little enigmatic and left a lot for the reader to wonder about. I did feel as though Karin and Nick’s “relationship” seemed a little implausible, but that might just be part of the “magic” that you have to accept. I would have liked to see more interactions between the two of them before it moved straight to love status just to make it more real, but that could just be me. I felt the relationship between the sisters and their aunt is very moving, but I hope in future books that the bond between the sisters is explored further.
I did find this storyline to be very captivating and unique. I am definitely curious to know how this all plays out. That being said, there were a fair number of storylines to track, and I before I knew it, the book is over—leaving some questions unanswered. I do enjoy books that don’t have obvious endings, but I also don’t like a lot of what-ifs and whys left when I finish a book. Of course, this is a series, so I will have to read on to find out, which I will, but I wanted to say that in case you were wondering if this could be read as a standalone. I don’t think so.
Besides an interesting premise, the writing in this book is wonderful. The author uses a lot of figurative language to describe the scenes, and that allows the reader to visualize the story. She has a way of using personification and imagery to bring the story and people to life, and I think that is worth mentioning.
Overall, this book has a lot of good qualities with mystery, murder, unearthly presences, curses, and love. It is a little on the darker side of things and not a light read, but it is a good read, and I think many people will find something they enjoy in it.
I loved this book. It kept my attention and made me want to continue with the series
I loved this one anything with magic, witches etc. This one was wonderful.
I enjoyed the characters and the story line. Even though I have 300 books in queue on my e-reader I bought the other two in this series to find out what happened to the other sisters.
Love this series, seeing how each sister has different skills, powers. very good read.
Fun book to read.
The main characters are Triplets who are witches find out from their aunt that their family is cursed so that each mother dies with the birth of her daughter. One sister works in a bookstore, one owns a coffee shop (Ground), and one is an estate lawyer. All three are charming characters, and at age 28 are thinking about settling down – hence their concern about the curse. This delightful book is only the first in a series and the series is well worth reading.
Fantasy about witches, family relations, strange happenings. Keeps you interested.
While I think the concept of the book is interesting, the author’s style isn’t comfortable. I had to read some passages over and again to keep up with the story line. The main characters keep calling themselves witches, but it’s that style where I couldn’t figure out whether the author was trying to say they were or that all human beings have talents and gifts that allow them to cope. I’ll keep reading this author hoping she can develop the characters more to my liking.
Loved it. Already reading the next book in the series.
Original, I enjoyed it; of course the formula (for romance novels) is obviously.
Enjoyed it.
I am now reading the third book in the series. They are easy to read cozy mysteries. I do not like the way the books just stop at the end of a chapter leaving situations dangling. The next books do pick up where the last one stopped. If I did not have access to the next book in the series I would have been disappointed to invest my time in a book and have so many unresolved plot lines.
Great story, kept me guessing the whole time. The ending was a surprise!
Truly enjoyed this story and can’t wait to read the next !!!
