ASHTON BARCLAY, or as I like to call him, Mr. B. for Bossy, is fast becoming the bane of my existence. After running into him, literally, he’s now popping up everywhere, and somehow managing to weave his way into my life. He’s egotistical, smug, and so ridiculously good-looking it should be illegal—he’s way too hot to handle. I don’t do hot, those type of guys are more trouble than they’re worth.… than they’re worth.
Although, I’d secretly love to do him.
We’ve kissed once—it was smokin’, and led to me dry humping his leg in front of the entire club like a shameless hussy. Oh, and did I mention I deep throated his thumb within seconds of meeting him? I didn’t even know his name yet.
I have issues, big ones.
He makes me do things I never imagined myself doing.
He makes me feel things I’m not comfortable feeling.
It just wouldn’t work, even if I wanted it to. Between us we have more baggage than a carousel at LAX airport.
He’s everything I want, but can never have.
Or so I thought.

I loved Ashton and Emma!! They both have tragic pasts that affect their relationships and made them who they are. Such great characters and so much emotion. A truly great book!
I Loved It it was face paced and never a dull moment these characters will take you high then low with the emotions running high, beautifully written.
Aston is pure Alpha and demanding and with rules where as Emma is sweet with a great big heart but also sassy both with trust issues and I loved them hard. Be prepared for heartache, laughs and a whole lot more with these two.
This was my first J.L. Perry book. I loved it so much. Having dealt with some of the same issues tackeld in this book, I felt it deep. Learning to love and trust again is never easy, and I enjoyed watching their love story unfold. It was snarky, sweet, sexy, heartbreaking, heartwarming, and even funny at times. Absolutely perfect, an amazing addition to the cocky hero world. I can’t wait to read her next one.
Gah!
Emma and Ashton.
Brave and broken.
Sweet and savage.
These two worked their way into my heart and I’m having a hard time letting them go.
Their story had me absolutely mesmerised.
Their connection started out fun, flirty and scorching.
Then the slow burn that ensued had me reading to the late hours of early morning. I did not want to put it down.
I really wanted to junk punch Ashton at times, ring his neck and possibly throw my kindle.
Sweet, sweet Emma was a warrior in an innocent package.
She was an inspiration, a light to his darkness.
They were awesome.
What a delightful and surprising story this turned out to be! I was ready for the arrogant hero and the sassy heroine. I got that vibe from the blurb. But I got a heck of a lot more! These two were ridiculously perfect for each other. She has no trust in men and he has no trust in women … until they do 🙂
You guys! Such a fun and flirty and sexy and emotional (*surprise*) opposites attract journey! Perfect blend of angst with fun. I mean I could not have asked for a more satisfying after noon read. I honestly wanted these two to go on forever!
Another fab addition to Cocky Hero Club. This book is everything you expect from a perfect romance book with a engaging plot which pulls you in from the first page and captivating characters. Both Ashton & Emma had past issues and were trying to protect themselves and when they meet they are instantly attracted to each other. The author has done beautiful justice to the plot and their characters and my heart broke and felt bad for both Ashton and Emma . The story was heartfelt , emotional and heartwarming. This is the first time I am reading J.L.Perry and I really enjoyed this book, will be checking more books of her. This book is a MUST READ !!!!
Bossy Bastard is so good I am now stalking the author because I need MORE!
I loved the Cocky Hero Club from learning of its conception. I have loved these worlds the Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward have created. These overly arrogant characters who need to be knocked down a step or two. From the beginning I was all in. Reading the blurb of Bossy Bastard as second time, I worried what I had gotten myself into. I was prepared to truly dislike hero Ashton Barclay. I wasn’t sure I could deal with all his baggage. But let me tell you I am so glad I read this book.
If every there was a couple that truly needed each other to be whole, it is Ashton and Emma. Their Meet Cute over a lost jelly doughnut was sexy and magical. Who would think a jelly donut could be sexy. Later that same day a sexy red dress and a chance spotting at a club leads to a sexy moment and another chance to connect. Emma and Ashton are fated as two people have never been.
I don’t want to give away too much, but this story is filled with emotional ups and downs. So many feels. So many lost moments for two people who deserve to be loved and cherished. I loved everything about this story. The supporting characters in this book are so special. I can usually tell how great a book is going to be when the supporting characters add value to the story as more than just moving it along. This story was filled with funny moments, witty banter and just enough steam to keep you feeling. This was a 5/5 read for me. This absolutely needs added to your TBR Pile.
JL Perry is one of my favorite authors and with Bossy Bastard she proves again why. This book was hot, made me laugh out loud, put a big smile on my face and made me feel for the characters. I loved everything about it, from start to finish. I loved how Emma and Ashton met and how that meeting changed their lives for the better. I fell absolutely in love with Emma and Ashton, as individuals, as friends and as a couple.
Emma is passionate, caring, feisty, insecure, kind hearted and loyal. She loves her job, because of what she can do for the children. She also loves spending time at the animal shelter, because she cares about those animals. Emma can’t stop thinking about Ashton after meeting him, but she finds it difficult to believe that someone like Ashton would want her. Emma thinks that they are too different, but Ashton will do anything to prove that he’s genuine about her.
Ashton is a rich businessman and a player. He has rules about women to not get attached, but that changes when he runs into Emma. She’s different. She makes Ashton feel alive and happy again, and that has been years. Ashton is different with Emma too. He’s protective, caring and determined. There is very little that he wouldn’t do for Emma. But Ashton is also –like the title says- a bossy bastard, but Emma can handle him.
Emma and Ashton belong together, without a doubt, from the moment they met. But both of them have things in the past that still affect their present life and their relationships. Emma and Ashton are definitely damaged, but they find comfort and trust with each other. It won’t always be easy. There is some push and pull. In a way it’s a slow burn, but it’s so worth the wait. In the end, their relationship is strong, passionate and solid.
The secondary characters definitely added something to the story, from a dog to their best friends. Emma and Ashton have amazing friends. They were fun, loyal and caring. I was glad they had those friends, before they found love with each other. I can’t wait for Carla and Grayson’s story!
This was such a beautifully written feel good story and my first book by this author. I really enjoyed Ashton and Emma’s love story. The words captivated me right from the beginning. Can’t wait for the next book.
I absolutely loved Bossy Bastard. I have done nothing but spend the day reading this book because I was unable to put it down!
You are going to love Ashton and Emma. OMG this couple are truly meant for each other. Their chemistry is off the charts; their personalities complement each other; they have an instant connection BUT they both have a past that they are struggling to move on from and this complicates matters. My heart broke for both Emma and Ashton at times. They both deserve the very best from life and I kept everything crossed that they could move forward and find happiness together. You are going to have to read the book to see if they achieve this.
This story brought out every emotion in me. I’ve laughed, cried, swooned and sat on the edge of my seat at times. The author has kept me intrigued and entertained throughout and I felt that all the characters in this story added to my enjoyment perfectly.
I recommend Bossy Bastard without hesitation. I thought that J.L. Perry covered the real-life topics raised in this storyline with sensitivity, respect and care. I am delighted to see that two of the secondary characters are going to have their story written in the future, and I honestly cannot wait!
Loved JL Perry’s Bossy Bastard!
Featuring Chance, Aubrey and Pixy the goat from Cocky Bastard, this book’s main characters are two people so badly burned by past experiences that it has forever changed their view of intimate relationships. It’s a story that made me feel the full gamut of emotions from the most desolate sadness through some laughs and into some fan your face moments.
Ashton and Emma’s story is one of past pain and survival. Told in my favourite dual POV I got to see the deepest fears and rawest moments from them. He truly was a bossy bastard and has never heard the word ‘no’ from a woman before! He had to work hard to get into Emma’s good graces, and mine as well. Being ridiculously hot and sexy just didn’t cut it, and his incredulity showed just how cocky he truly was. I loved his character development.
Even in spite of her past, Emma has the funniest inner voice. She is such a strong woman, taking her vulnerabilities and using them as a strength to help young ones suffering as she once did, and I absolutely adored her. She had the right tools in her mental arsenal, but Ashton’s own past meant that at times, any relationship outside of the friendship he was working so hard towards, was tenuous at best.
Yeah, I was rapt with Author JL Perry’s foray into the Cocky Hero world, and I had to hit this book in one sitting. I’ll also add that I absolutely adored the secondary characters, Carla and Grayson, and the snippet provided at the back promises that their story, Sexy Bastard will be every bit as compelling. 5 Stars.
Ashton is a man with rules. His past has left him a little need for a relationship. He is arrogant, bossy and has a big heart. When he meets Emma he finds that breaking rules comes easy. She is gorgeous, sweet and gives him plenty of sass. He instantly wants to take care of her and make her smile. Her past makes her wary of hot guys. What she went through will make you angry and tearful. On paper they may be opposites but together they bring out the best in each other. He gives her confidence and makes her feel special and she makes him want to do better. There are scenes that will absolutely make your heart break and then another where you have stars in your eyes. Well paced story with great characters
Bossy Bastard takes us for another trip into the world of Cocky Bastard with an appearance of one of our original favourites. Ashton and Emma’s story is captivating and one that will at times have you on the edge of your seat. You will experience a range of emotions and reactions from laughter, heat, intrigue, sadness and love. These two have a chemistry that ignites the pages but have pasts that leads to complications. A story that will touch your heart and have you completely enamored with Ashton and Emma.
I thoroughly enjoyed how this story hooks you in straight away, Ashton intrigued me greatly and he continued to do so the whole way through the book. What stands out about this book is the quality writing with its interesting characters, fast pace, and solid storyline.
Ashton Barclay isn’t your soft, understanding gentleman, in fact, you could say he is an arrogant jerk especially when it came to women until he met Emma, but he did have his reasons and was always upfront and totally honest. Emma isn’t your out there, in your face one-night stand kind of girl. She is a sweetheart who has a heart of gold that has had it trampled on before, unfortunately. I liked her sassiness and how much backbone she did have. Both are perfect for each other because they have zero trust in the opposite sex. I liked both characters but yes, Emma, immediately and Ashton grew on me fairly quickly.
I do have to warn you though that the emotions in this book could cause little drops of water to leak out of your eyes at times. Not often but in one particular scene the writing is so intense and the details very precise that a lump developed in my throat and tears did unashamedly roll down my face. Many other times I was chuckling with laughter from the witty banter between the characters as well as some of the situations described. A terrific balance can be found in this story.
I totally recommend this story to everyone who enjoys a true romance with some angst thrown in as well as lots of cuteness with a special dog and goat.

This is what you want from a romance book and so much more. Ashton and Emma’s story will take you on one crazy rollercoaster of emotions. I loved everything about their story, their chemistry, raw emotions, sexy times, with some heartbreak thrown in of course. This is such an amazing ready, can’t wait to get more from he Cocky Hero’s club stories.
ASHTON BARCLAY, or as I like to call him, Mr. B. for Bossy, is fast becoming the bane of my existence.
After running into him, literally, he’s now popping up everywhere, and somehow managing to weave his way into my life. I really enjoyed this book, the story line was interesting with its little hidden lies, the push and pull between the characters was sexy and witty and the sex was pretty hot. I did have this on audiobook and both narrators were terrific except for when the male narrator Kai Kennicott did the Australian accent of their friend Chance he was actually doing an Irish accent. All over this was a great read.
Damn did I love this book!
Reading Bossy Bastard I didn’t know what to expect and as I read about Emma and Ashton I just couldn’t stop. Those two just stole my heart. I was really surprised by the storyline and just fell in love with Emma and Ashton. Definitely an amazing book and I can’t wait to read more from these characters!
This was my first J.L. Perry book and I loved it! It was easy to get caught up in the story, and the characters are all wonderfully developed; they come across in a realistic way. Both Ashton and Emma are great characters on their own, but once they’re together the magic between them practically leaps off the page. They really are perfectly balanced for each other, and just have to learn to work through the issues from their pasts that could possibly derail their shot at a forever HEA, and I loved seeing it was all gonna work out for them.
Emma and Ashton meet over a donut. He’s bossy, pushy and cocky. She’s lacking self confidence due to her past. He doesn’t get involved with women. He never takes any to his home, but something about Emma is different. Even when he sees something about her that freaks him out and is just that little bit too close to a tragic part of his past. He can’t stay away. She’s cautious. She’s been hurt in the past. Love these characters. Love their friends. Loved this book. I couldn’t put it down. Can’t wait for Grayson’s book.
