Boss with benefits was a bad idea.
Getting pregnant by him…
Pure stupidity.
Cocky McCockerson was my first on a long list of firsts.
My first crush. My first lover. My first kiss.
When he left without a word he became… my first enemy.
12 years later he’s back from the military.
Armed with a panty dropping smile and enough swagger to charm the entire cheerleading squad.
And I’m the idiot … squad.
And I’m the idiot that agreed to let him stay at my house.
I was doing an excellent “ish” job of minding my business,
until I walked in on him in the shower.
We agreed. Just once.
Screw my broken heart. I can keep it casual.
His charm and big stick aren’t fooling anyone.
Just when my hatred was subsiding.
He secretly becomes my boss.
Guess I’ll hide this baby bump a little longer…

These two fought a gallant fight to resist each other but flesh is weak as they say. Mark is back after 12 years In the military and had no where to stay so of course stays at Katie’s house. Their history and mutual attraction certainly dont lead to circumstances where hands keep to themselves especially after a revealing shower scene. I loved the dynamic between them. The snappy rivalry and flirting/ teasing whatever it tended to be just made it fun and full of action, steam and intimacy eventually. I have enjoyed each of the Aubrey Wright books I’ve read and I think I found another favourite. While Mark was a jerk in the beginning he certainly redeemed himself and knew how to woo a woman. Great story!

Second chance of love, for this couple who keep getting it wrong when they are so right for each other. The characters are fun and have great chemistry together. I like how they both want each other, but are reluctant to voice how they really feel. There is a twist towards the end that I didn’t see coming which made their HEA all that much sweeter.

Stubbornness, denial and selective memory reconstruction abound
Boss of Me by Aubrey Wright is a well written second chance romance with an extremely stubborn female lead character. Kate takes the cake when it comes to stubbornness and has developed a real talent for reconstructing the memories of her relationship with Mark. While Mark remembers how much he and Kate loved each other when they were kids, in the present he’s completely in denial. These two are wonderful characters that purposefully avoid acknowledging and accepting their truth; they never stopped loving one another.
The plot of Boss of Me creates complication after complication, including an antagonist from their past. A nasty pest that doesn’t seem to accept no and move on in more ways than one. All this, along with the engaging characters make this an enjoyable read and I became completely invested in the outcome.
Overall, an entertaining read bringing two characters with a history back together in an interesting and complicated way with plenty of steam thrown in for good measure. I absolutely enjoyed the whole process of these two finally! realizing what their hearts had been telling them all along and they were too stubborn and in denial to listen. Mark and Kate also get an exceptional and exciting HEA that is thoughtful and perfect for them and their new family.
I read an ARC of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily share my review.
A twist of fate or rather a vengeful colleague ensured that 10 years of unrequited love.
A captivating tale that will raise your hackles in several scenes and also leave you all steamed up due to the chemistry between Katie and Mark
Certainly a good addition to Aubrey’s selection.

BOSS OF ME is a really great story. A bit unique, it has a little of this and a little of that in it. Angst, laughter, love, hate, fun, some surprises, steam, and a great ending.
Besides a good storyline, the characters are enchanting and make the story worth the read. They kept me captivated well into the night. I didn’t want to stop reading until I got to the end of the book.
I thought that this was a good read. This second chance romance offers up lots of emotional turmoil as Kate and Mark get another shot at a HEA. Wounded hearts and hurt feelings play a huge part in this entertaining read. I am posting a forthright, elective review.
Mark And Katie’s Beautiful Story Is About The Walls We Build When Faced With Heartbreak And The Battle To Tear Them Back Down.
This book is entirely a stand-alone, but fans may note that this is a spin-off of Boss’s Baby – Josh Taylor and Cassidy Marten’s story. This is the story of Mark, Josh’s best friend, and Katie, Cassidy’s younger sister.
Mark Sampson, probably about thirty-four, finally feels ready to leave LA behind and return to New York. He had left everything behind following high school graduation. He had regrets, but life goes on. A stint in the marines and a Stanford degree served him well. He often got himself into trouble in his youth, but today he has made a name for himself and is worth millions. With dozens of LA area bars and clubs in his portfolio, he has become a big player in LA real estate. But Manhattan real estate is a killer market to enter into and there are no guarantees. He has a plan, though. Start with a few bars in Brooklyn. Get profitable. Then turn towards Manhattan. He is ready.
Hey You! is a super hot and hip Brooklyn bar that embodies everything Mark is looking for as his entry point. It was opened by a former musician and has an authenticity that is hard to come by. The owner isn’t a natural businessman and is considering selling to Mark, but it isn’t a done deal. When he decides to check it out for himself one evening, he gets a shock he hadn’t been prepared for.
Katie Marten, thirty-one, gave up on the notion of love and happily ever after years ago. She is a free spirit and loves to travel the world. She refuses any man who hints at wanting more than a roll in the sheets, having learned a valuable lesson in high school about not getting attached. Mark had left her, but she was glad for lesson learned. Her sister Cassidy remembers it differently – claims Katie had been heartbroken – but of course Cass is wrong.
When Mark sees Katie behind the bar at Hey You! he can hardly believe his eyes, and time hadn’t done anything to lesson what he felt for her. Katie is angry when Mark enters the bar acting like he owns it. Her feelings confuse her, though. And despite hating Mark, she is still insanely attracted to him.
Mark and Katie’s second chance love story is a rewarding read. A single youthful mistake sends Mark and Katie on separate paths. Both are altered as a result of their separation. Their motivations and direction can be traced to that event. When fate gives them a second chance they try to deny it, and the past comes back to haunt them. The couple has wonderful chemistry. Their story is emotional as they each wage an inner battle to come to terms with their feelings. They eventually earn a well-deserved HEA.
A few issues merit mention. *Spoilers* First, Josh is Mark’s best friend, and he is Josh’s best man, but they haven’t seen one another in ten years, which doesn’t feel right. Second, it seems unlikely that Paul Getz is friends with Katie’s boss Sean, and voices interest in buying Sean’s bar, yet he hasn’t seen Katie in years. It is especially difficult to believe since he had a creepy crush on her in high school and kniws she works there. Third, the idea that Mark would be finished in New York because it got out that he had a relationship with his former high school girlfriend, which began prior to his purchase of the bar and he became her boss, seems a huge stretch. He and Kate have a history that predates their boss/employee relationship. Fourth, with Katie being thirty-one and Mark seemingly her sister’s age (a few years older), he is probably thirty-four, which is sixteen years past graduation from high school. This doesn’t sync well with the idea that it has been just over a decade since Mark left. Nevertheless, these issues do not interfere with enjoyment of the book.
Mark and Katie’s beautiful story is about the walls we build when faced with heartbreak and the battle to tear them back down. It is well-written. The plot is somewhat complex. There are layers that eventually reveal the couple’s history. The characters are nicely developed. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Mark and Katie. I rate this book four stars.
