This was such a beautiful and sweet story about a hockey player and the agent who tries to sign him.
I was a little nervous when I started the book because I really didn’t like Jocelyn ( the ice queen and agent who tried to sign Ryan) from “Delivery girl”, but this book totally changed my mind about her.
Boxer is amazing and he is a single dad to a 6-year old girl who is his number one priority to his hockey career and his love life. Their relationship starts as a friendship which developed into more and Jocelyn builds up an amazing relationship with Boxers daughter even though she was convinced she was bad with children.
I can definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a feel good romance.
I read Delivery Girl awhile ago and loved it! I don’t know why I never finished the series!! Boss Girl was the second book in Lily Kate’s Minnesota Ice Series but it can be read as a stand-alone. It was a fun, low angst, sweet story! I forgot I hated Jocelyn in Delivery Girl…but she completely redeemed herself!!
Jocelyn was known as the Ice Queen, but she had to protect herself in a mostly male world as an agent. She was good at what she did but at what cost?
Boxer wanted Jocelyn (in more ways than one),but he needed her to understand there was more important things than just making money – especially his daughter, Charli. Could Boxer and Jocelyn keep their relationship strictly business or would the tension bring them down?
I loved that Jocelyn didn’t take the bait; she looked at all the facts and had a good head on her shoulders. The humor sprinkled in was perfect, my favorite was the popper in Target There was so much chemistry between them! It was a delicious, slow burn! And Charli…she stole my heart!!
Jocelyn and Boxer put the sprinkles on top this HEA sundae! Jocelyn needs the win and she wants Boxer to be her newest client. He is not like her typical prospect though – he doesn’t seem to care about what she can she can do for him but rather he wants an agent that is more friend than marketer. This is not her typical MO, she is known as the Ice Queen and sometimes other less favorable monakers. She cannot deny that Boxer is not like other clients – he seems to care about approximately three things: his daughter, hockey, and ice cream. She is cannot help but find his quirks charming, his character winning, and his heart generous. He has this way of melting her carefully crafted icy exterior and touching the real Jocelyn. After everything Boxer went through with Charli’s moms, he has been guarding both of their hearts pretty well. Boxer loves his little lady and very thing in his life revolves around her. So when it comes time to pick a new agent, he needs someone who will understand his first priority is his daughter. When Joss enters the picture looking to snap him up all he can think about is giving her a position that has nothing to do with contracts or endorsements. She is beautiful, smart, and has this quality that is impossible for him to forget about. The chemistry between them is amazing and the fact that his kid is nuts about her is an even bigger plus in her column. But both have been burned before and they will need to trust each other and themselves and the possibility of a bright future. She may be used to calling the shots but he is the one with all the plays.
I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book.
4.5 Stars
I am so happy to have found another author who writes romantic comedies! This one wasn’t quite as funny as it’s predecessor, Delivery Girl, but it was still really good and had some really funny moments!
I was a bit hesitant to read this story as it was about Jocelyn, a fairly prominent character from the first book. Her nick names included Ice Queen and Blonde B***ch, and in Delivery Girl, she was every inch, both those things. But Boxer, who was also in the first book, was the hero, and I loved him, so I decided to give it a try anyway!
Thankfully, the character progression was spot on. You really don’t need to read Delivery Girl to understand what’s happening in Boss Girl. Jocelyn’s behavior and actions that are moderately relevant to this book was retold and explained but not overly so. Andi and Ryan don’t even make a formal appearance in this book and it wasn’t necessary for them to be.
Boxer has a 6 year old daughter (who was never mentioned in the first book and I did feel like the author decided to give him one after she’d already completed the first book). Charli is her name and she’s a tomboy who loves pink and glitter but hates Barbies. Tomboy’s don’t usually like pink so I thought that was rather strange, but brushed it off. Boxer is the perfect dad and I loved how much he loved his daughter.
Jocelyn and Boxer were the perfect match and their chemistry was off the charts! I could feel it through my kindle screen. I love it when two characters choose to get to know each other and actually date before giving into the lustful desires. Of course, they eventually did, and the scenes didn’t disappoint! There are three love scenes that aren’t overly detailed but just enough.
There’s a small amount of swearing, a few F bombs among them, but not many.
There is actually hockey playing in this book! There wasn’t any hockey scenes in the first book. It’s only one scene, towards the very end, but it was there.
Overall, great romance!
(Personal complaint, the cover of this book makes no sense. Boxer doesn’t have a beard, has dirty blonde hair and doesn’t wear glasses. I get that they were going with the whole “boss” theme, but it should have been a blonde female on the cover with glasses on, but even then, Jocelyn doesn’t wear them either. They could have at least put a hockey player on the cover!)
