Stand-alone Wishing Well romance, complete with HEA–and plenty of heat and heart along the way!Bentley CalhounMaisy Turner and I had been butting heads since we were five years old. That girl knew every one of my buttons and loved to push ‘em. Folks like to say that we have a love/hate relationship, but I’ve never felt much of the love…from her side, anyway. So when I got … side, anyway.
So when I got roped into working side by side with her, I was expecting sparks to fly–I just thought they’d be from us rubbing each other the wrong way, not the right one…
Maisy Turner
When scandal broke in Wishing Well and I was called in to right the wrongs, I jumped at the chance to step up and finally be seen as an individual, and not just, “one of the Turner triplets.” I was prepared to do whatever it took to advance my career and stand on my own two feet…even if it meant working side by side with the only person in town I couldn’t stand.
Bentley Calhoun had been a thorn in my side since kindergarten. He was like a rash that wouldn’t go away–an annoying itch that drove me crazy. Problem with itches was, it felt so good to scratch ‘em.
Author’s Note: This is a slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract, workplace romance served with a big helping of meddling family and friends, a small-town scandal, with a side of hot southern nights.

The chemistry between Maisy Turner and Bently Calhoun is evident from the first pages of this lively read. We teach our little girls that boys pick on them because they like them – and that has been true for Bently since he saw Maisy on the first day of kindergarten. But like many little boys his efforts to get her attention were disasters to a young girl. When Bently is asked to help his community while out of active duty and Maisy is instantly promoted during a scandal – the two must learn to work together rather than antagonizing each other every chance they can. Throw in a small office they are forced to share, a locked building and the fun heats up. This was a fun read from start to finish and I truly enjoyed it!
I am so happy yo be returning to Wishing Well. Bentley and Maisy’s story was a grear enemies to lovers storu. You had to know they would have great chemistry with all the bickerung they did. I love this series and all of the characters. What a great story.
Oh Bentley, how I need one of you in my life.
Bentley and Maisy met in kindergarten. As soon as Bentley seen Maisy, he started trying to get her attention, to bad the couple things he did only aggravated and made her not like him. Since then, they have always had a dislike for each other. All through school they have argued and gave each other a hard time. Then out of the blue, one day in high school Bentley kiss Maisy, but then called her by one of her sister’s names (Maisy is a triplet). Bentley knew the whole time who he kissed and had meant to kiss her but called her a different name anyway. So of course she could not stand him.
Skip ahead many years and tons of barbs later, you have two hard working adults that still dislike each other.
Bentley is on medical leave and Maisy is taking over a job that she got because the previous person embezzled money. The mayor decides to use both Maisy and Bentley for a special project. Try and find how the two people were able to embezzle the money. Of course, neither Bentley or Maisy is happy about having to work together.
This book was really good. You will read about how all of the tension, barbs and dislike was an underlying for the feelings these two have for each other and how all the barbs were actually foreplay between the two.
You will finish reading this book and want a Bentley of your own. Excellent read.
Borrowing Bentley is a witty, fun story about two people who have had an odd relationship from the moment they met. Every time he tries to show Maisy how much he likes her, something happens & she thinks he’s purposely tormenting her. As they’ve grown, it’s become easier to avoid each other. Until their true feelings get too strong to ignore.
I really enjoyed this story & the different perspectives of the same happenings. You really see how a lack of communication can influence things. This writing duo has given their readers another enjoyable story in this series. Each story can be read as a stand alone but the town & its people make appearances in each one.
We were welcomed back to Wishing well with an awesome story. We see the story of Maisy and Bentley. They have known each other since childhood and have always had an up and down relationship. They always say the boy pulls your hair because he likes you and this is a perfect example of that quote. You will get sucked into their world. Loved every minute of this story. 5 stars all the way!
Another great trip back to Wishing Well Texas. This time up Maisey (Daisy with and M) the city planner and Bentley ( Benny to his family) a police officer. These two have been battling each other since the first day of kindergarten. Pushing each others buttons is what they do best. They are forced to work together to research a city scandal will the walls come crumbling down or will love find a way?
I love all the Wishing Well stories, each one is so fun to read.
Bentley and Maisy’s story is a great enemies to loves story that actually begins in kindergarten and they battle each other all the way. This is definitely another 5 star read from Melanie Shawn
I love Wishing Well! Its one of my favorite storybook places! Borrowing Bentley is the ninth story in the Wishing Well Texas series by Melanie Shawn. It follows one of the Turner Triplets – Maisy and Bentley Calhoun.
Maisy is a type A. Always on time, always follows the rules, and doesn’t like Bentley Calhoun. While he seems like a nice guy to everyone else, for some reason he has just never been to her. When Maisy and Bentley are forced to work together for the town will their closeness shed a different light on their interactions?
Bentley is fun. He does a lot for his community, is a law enforcement officer, and volunteers when he can. Something has always eluded him about Maisy though. He’s drawn to her, but loves to push her buttons.
Can Bentley and Maisy get along long enough to help out the town? Or will they tear each other apart first? The town of Wishing Well is taking bets! I loved Bentley and Maisy and cannot wait for more from Wishing Well!
This was such a good book. I absolutely loved it from start to finish.
It is well written and a great addition to the Wishing Well series.
Bentley and Maisy are a great combo whether they are fighting with each other or falling in love.
This is a really sweet story, but there is definitely not a lack of spicy bits too.
I am very excited for what comes next for this series
I really enjoyed our visit to Wishing Well and of course spending time with Maisy and Bentley. These two were such great characters especially with their banter and chemistry. It was fun to have their past ‘friendship’ weave throughout the book. I also loved all of Granny Turner’s advice at the beginning of every chapter, what a fun addition to the story. The project was a perfect opportunity for these two to work together and who knows what might come out of working closely together. This was just a great book from beginning to end and the apology lane scavenger hunt at the end of the book, was so awesome for these two, especially with what came at the end. My favorite Granny Turner advice is, “When life seems too good to be true, pour some sweet tea and enjoy it”. This book definitely made me miss Wishing Well and I need to go back to the beginning and re-read this great series.
I always expect a good time with lots of feels from Melanie Shawn, but sometimes they really exceed every expectation I have going in. This is one of those times. I adore this couple, together and separately. Their hilarious banter, their journey from enemies to sort of friends and then discovering each other in a new way. It’s also a true testiment to how you should never think you truly understand what is going on in other people’s heads or what drives them. Everybody has their own reality, their own truth.
I love frenemies stories and this was no exception. Bentley and Maisy have a great chemistry from the get go. They have known each other since kindergarten and now that they are all grown up and they get stuck working together, spending so much time together has been an eye opener. A fun story that I enjoyed thoroughly!
WHAT A GREAT WAY TO TAKE US BACK TO WISHING WELL, TX!!!
Melanie Shawn takes us back to Wishing Well, TX in the 9th book of the series. It has been awhile since we have heard what is going on there and Borrowing Bentley was a fantastic way to go! This enemies-to-lovers story has now become my favorite.
Maisy Turner is one of the three “Turner Triplets” and prefers to pave her own way and be know for things other than being one of the triplets. She is a rule follower, a by the book girl and is still trying to make a name for herself even in her late 20’s. While she loves her sisters she wants to be as individual from them as she can. She gets the chance to show who she is and what she can do when there is a scandal within the city and she is promoted to fix the wrong that has been done. She is ready to jump right in but a small little wrench is thrown in her way and he goes by the name of Bentley Calhoun.
Bentley Calhoun, a detective, has been on leave after a hostage situation gone wrong. He wants nothing more than to get back on the job but is at the mercy of his therapist signing off on his return. When the scandal happens his boss “loans” him out to the acting mayor to help fix the aftermath of said scandal. For him it is an opportunity he looks forward to because of Maisy Turner.
Maisy and Bentley have grown up together in the same town and they are pretty much sworn enemies…literally the whole town knows of their hatred towards each other. It seems no matter what Bentley has always found a way to ruin everything for Maisy, or so she thinks. When the two of them are thrown together she is not happy about it at all but she soon starts learning things about Bentley that she didn’t know…he is not what she thought. We soon learn that for these two, and the events that have occurred over the years, it was more a case of each other mistaking the others actions for many, many years.
The relationship between Bentley and Maisy was so enjoyable to read. The bantering between the two of them completely rivals the romantic tension with perfect balance. The chain of events that brings them together was so touching at times. Once again the author duo of Melanie Shawn has written a story that just reaches out and grabs the reader’s attention and makes us feel what the characters are feeling.
So glad these authors brought back the Wishing Well series! Maisy has lived her life in the shadow of her sisters after being part of the local triplets. When the scandal hits the town it gives her the opportunity to prove to the town that she can stand on her own and be separate from her sisters. Bentley is currently on leave from his job with the police department after a difficult case for him wraps up. Struggling to get cleared to go back to work, he finds out he’s picked for a project to figure out what exactly happened within the scandal. Maisy and Bentley have always had back and forth banter and situations throughout childhood and have run into adulthood, and when they find out they’re working together it’s combustible because of the chemistry they have together. Through working together, they find out the root of their issues being the attraction between them. I loved getting to know Maisy and her feelings toward being her own person within the town of Wishing Well. I was so extremely happy that these authors brought this series back and I hope we get more!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Borrowing Bentley is the ninth book in the Wishing Well series by the writing duo, Melanie Shawn. While this is part of a series, you won’t have any issues if this is the first book in the series you pick up.
Maisy Turner is all grown up and because of a scandal that has hit her small Texas town, she might actually have a chance to prove that she’s an individual and not just one of the “Turner Triplets”. While she loves her sisters, she either got mistaken for one of them or lumped together as a threesome instead of three individuals. She’s got the opportunity now to advance her career and she couldn’t be more excited. Well, that’s until she learns who she has to work with.
Bentley Calhoun is currently on leave from the police department due to a shooting during a case he was assisting with. He’s working toward getting back on active duty, but that’s all left in the hands of the shrink he’s seeing weekly. He couldn’t be more surprised when he’s summonsed to the mayor’s office and told that he’s going to be working on a committee to help figure out the scandal that has just broken. Oh and the committee has a total of two members; himself and Maisy Turner.
Bentley and Maisy have quite the history dating back when they were five years old. They know how to push one another’s buttons and they don’t get along in general. Will these two be able to put the past behind them in order to solve the problem? Or will the fact that they are working so closely together make them see things they may not have seen before?
Maisy and Bentley definitely had mad chemistry. The way they were able to poke and prod at one another was amusing. I also really enjoyed how we got their backstory from both perspectives which gave the story a lot of richness. I appreciated that it wasn’t just glossed over. This was a light, enjoyable read and one that was a breath of fresh air.
OMG I loved granny turner, her quotes at the beginning of each chapter had me cracking up. If two people were ever made for each other it was Maisy and Bentley. For the first day of school until the scavenger hunt Bentley does what ever he can to help ( or he tries mostly unsuccessfully) Maisy, these two seem like oil and water until you understand it’s just foreplay. Loved this trip back to wishing well.
Once again this dynamic duo gives the reader a story that is touching, funny, heartwarming and just plain wonderful.
Bentley Calhoun and Maisy (Daisy with an M) Turner, have been driving each other crazy since they were 5 years old. She the goody two shoe, always following the rules, and he the daredevil charmer, coloring outside the lines.
Years later, now a detective, Bentley is put on mandatory leave after his last case, Bentley finds himself working alongside Maisy to find out how the previous mayor had embezzled the town.
Watching these two together was like watching fireworks going haywire. But it also was at fun and sweet .
Both had issues and though they seemed like total opposites , their love for their family and friends was undeniable.
Will these two “enemies” find out they truly complement each other? Or will the past keep them apart?
Another winner for this talented authors.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is such a good book!
I really enjoyed reading it!
It’s an engaging, funny, sexy
& moving romance.
It is about two people that have known
each since they were 5 yrs. old.
To this day they do not like each other.
But now they’ve been forced to spend
time together. Who will survive?
Bentley Maisey, steal your heart
from the very first pages to the last.
Must Read Story!!
I am in love with this story. Maisy and Bentley’s story was not a smooth ride at all. There were lots of ups and downs. But, oh what a story!!! Dual point of view. No cliffhanger. And, the epilogue just melted my heart. Yes, this book is part of a series, but you can definitely read this as a stand-alone if needed.
