Stand-alone Wishing Well romance, complete with HEA–and plenty of heat and heart along the way!Bentley CalhounMaisy Turner and I had been butting heads since we were five years old. That girl knew every one of my buttons and loved to push ‘em. Folks like to say that we have a love/hate relationship, but I’ve never felt much of the love…from her side, anyway. So when I got … side, anyway.
So when I got roped into working side by side with her, I was expecting sparks to fly–I just thought they’d be from us rubbing each other the wrong way, not the right one…
Maisy Turner
When scandal broke in Wishing Well and I was called in to right the wrongs, I jumped at the chance to step up and finally be seen as an individual, and not just, “one of the Turner triplets.” I was prepared to do whatever it took to advance my career and stand on my own two feet…even if it meant working side by side with the only person in town I couldn’t stand.
Bentley Calhoun had been a thorn in my side since kindergarten. He was like a rash that wouldn’t go away–an annoying itch that drove me crazy. Problem with itches was, it felt so good to scratch ‘em.
Author’s Note: This is a slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract, workplace romance served with a big helping of meddling family and friends, a small-town scandal, with a side of hot southern nights.

Fun to read. Loved how the author points out what you may see as truth may not be another person’s perspective. It was entertaining. And the ending was truly romantic. Loved it.
This is the 2nd book I read by Melanie Shawn. I didn’t like Bentley’s character. I thought this story would’ve been romantic like the 1st book but it wasn’t.
I really enjoyed this book. I like the needling and all their past interactions that went awry. the ending was perfect. It was a fun read that I would recommend.
A lovely enemies to lovers story. Bentley has such a big heart, I loved his relationship with the people in his town. The only person not to feel his charm is Maisy. Since age five they have been at odds with one another.
The story has wonderful characters and a really deserving HEA.
Recap of the previous books. It was cute but the focus was scattered.
9th Wishing Well Book, but no use of the Well.
I’ve read a few of the other Wishing Well based books and totally enjoyed them. They were early in the series and I think I only saw 1 or 2 mentions of them in this book; and no use of the well. It is a really fun book as the couple have known each other since kindergarten and communicated at cross purposes for 20 years. How they finally work things out is a fun read. I’ll have to go find the other triplet’s stories Others in this story likely have stories, too.
For those who don’t like detailed sex. It is easy to skim most of it. Every once in the while a beginning or ending has some story element, so skim not skip. Some if it is better written than I have seen in other books.
I enjoyed the love/hate relationship these two shared since they were 5. It was fun watching how it all played out.
I enjoyed it very much.
A good story. Supposed hatred turns to love. Too much explicit sex spoiled book.
Bentley and Maise
Granny Turner has a boat load of impressive sayings. One is at the beginning of each chapter. I absolutely loved this book. Fun story that made me smile so many times. Wonderful characters that you have to meet and love.
Maisy is a woman focused on her career when she is picked to work on a project with none other than Bentley, a guy from high school who she can’t stand. Of course, Bentley would like to get reacquainted since they did share a kiss all those years ago and he has broken up with his girlfriend. He is pretty obnoxious but funny and Maisy tries not to fall for him. A great ending and some good words of wisdom, courtesy of Maisy’s grandmother.
Wonderful if cliched story.
We don’t always see what is in front of us. An enjoyable read.
11/25/2020 “Borrowing Bentley” (nook) is a sexy and heart-warming story. Melanie Shawn has a talent for portraying intense emotions between her charachters, Bentley and Maisy. Their journey to a HEA is special. Also, I loved Granny Turner’s sayings.
Loved this story!!! The proverbial pulling my pigtails sorry because he liked you. Bentley and Maisey have known each other since they were five. And seemed to have a strong dislike of one another. BUT. That was a misconception. Because they also were highly attracted to one another. And what seemed like antagonizing happened to be poorly turned out attention seeking behavior by Bentley because he liked her. And it just never worked out in her favor. Lol. They were so cute and funny together with their banter and attraction. Loved how they balanced each other out. Only thing I didn’t like was that nothing came to light about Camilla. And wtf his brother is a POS.
Borrowing Bentley is a phenomenal contemporary romance by Melanie Shawn. This team of authors has provided readers with a well-written book populated with fun and lovable characters. Bentley can’t return to his job on the police force until he’s cleared by his shrink. Maisy sees her new job as a way to become her own person, not one of a set of triplets. When Bentley, the bane of her existence, is assigned to work with her on a project…she is not a happy camper. Maisy and Bentley’s story is packed with drama, laugh-out-loud humor and sizzle. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Melanie Shawn in the future. Borrowing Bentley is book 9 of the Wishing Well, Texas Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I loved going back to Wishing Well, so great to catch up with all the character’s again.
It doesnt matter what series it is by these gorgeous sisters, you always come away with a smile on your face.
These two entertain me with every one of their books.
You are guaranteed a HEA with each one filled with the usual banter and drama these two bring to the book world. I cant wait for their next one.
Heartwarming, sexy, fun and action packed romantic adventure filled with engaging and exciting charters, witty dialog, heart racing twist and undeniable passion. Was a excellent and exciting journey from beginning to end.
Borrowing Bentley!
This book is the 9th in Melanie Shawn’s Wishing Well series. I have read previous books, but this book reads like a stand alone. I don’t believe you will be confused at all if you haven’t read the previous books (although you really should because they are good too!)
Maisy is one of the Turner Triplets, and she’s struggled to prove her independence and unique identity her whole life. Most people mistake one triplet for another, or think of them as a unit. She now has been given the city planner job on the heals of a scandal and the interim mayor needing to fill the position and figure out what happened. Maisy can’t wait!
Bentley is working through a situation with his previous police assignment and he’s been on leave while a therapist determines his readiness for redeployment. He’s bored and spends time wasting it, getting drunk, and wallowing in his misery. Now he’s been demanded to work with the new mayor on a task force to determined what happened with the scandal. And he needs to work on that team with Maisy! He is looking forward to pushing all her buttons as he’s done since they were 5 years old!
Now Maisy is not looking forward to her new job! Bentley is irresponsible and a flirt and they are the only two on the task force? But she soon learns she was totally wrong about Bentley, and he learns to push new buttons!
I enjoyed this book! I felt the characters’ viewpoints show how lack of communication and assumptions have built their current relationship. And how communication and really opening their minds helped them see they were made for each other.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I loved reading Maisy and Bentley’s story, Borrowing Bentley by the amazing Melanie Shawn, the ninth book in their Wishing Well Texas series. These two have been butting heads since they were in kindergarten. It’s a reminder of that fine line between love and hate. When these two “enemies” are forced to work together everyone expected fireworks; the not get along kind rather than the falling in love ones. Maisy just wanted to be seen as an individual, not as “one of the Turner triplets.” Bentley was the only person who, outside the family, who could pick out Maisy from her identical sisters and she was the only one who could push his buttons. Getting forced to work with her Bentley knew they would clash, but these two were in for a surprise of off the charts chemistry, and a dislike that turned into a volcanic-like like that shocked them. These two enemies quickly crossed the line from what they surmised was hate into wanting to burn the sheets off the bed.
Melanie Shawn wrote an amazing slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract, workplace romance served with a big helping of meddling family and friends, a small-town scandal, with a side of hot southern nights that should not be missed. They provided a tale full of sizzling chemistry, humor, and endearing characters giving Maisey and Bentley a happy ever after future together. I highly recommend Borrowing Bentley to other readers and look forward to the next story in the Wishing Well series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
