Surrender is not survival.
Claire is desperate. Her once thriving city lies in ruins. The strongest of the three human dynamics, Alphas, have grown feral. Common Betas circle like vultures. The lowest in the hierarchy, rare and weak Omegas like Claire, are being destroyed. Sheltering amidst a dwindling enclave of frightened Omega women, Claire cannot provide enough to feed them all; her friends … her friends are starving.
All due to one escaped convict’s violent rise to power.
Shepherd is every bit as ruthless as his reputation suggests, but Claire cannot continue watching her friends suffer. Her last recourse is to beg the most powerful Alpha in the city for aid.
Up close, the sheer size of Shepherd, the raw power of the man, terrifies her. But he may be her only hope.
Before she can render her plea, Claire’s disguise and careful plans fail. Despite taking every possible precaution, she is captured. The moment the Alpha senses her, Claire’s worst nightmare is realized: Shepherd, discovering a rare Omega in his midst, claims her like a prize, forcing a pair-bond that ties her to him forever.
Claire becomes his.
Shepherd keeps his wayward mate locked away where only he might enjoy her and refuses to help her fellow Omegas unless they, too, are irrevocably bound to favored soldiers of his choosing. Claire cannot allow such a thing. She fights her instincts and his will, because no matter how many times he’s knotted her, how manipulative the bond might be, she despises what he’s done.
She escapes.
And Shepherd vows he will hunt her down – ready to burn the city to ash if he has to. Because Claire is his. His mate.
The first book in Addison Cain’s exciting, raw, and suspense-filled Omegaverse trilogy is a dark tale with explicit sexual themes and complete power exchange. If such material offends you, please do not purchase.

I fell in love with this story and one-clicked my way through the series in one weekend. The author vibrantly creates this world immersed in twisted corruption, giving in-depth insight through the eyes of well-developed characters, while delivering all the feels. There’s nothing not to adore!
This series gave me a week-long book hangover. I was useless to the world whenever I had to do real-world things while reading these and devouring the three books in four days. DARK. Be warned. Be ready to feel ALL the feels.
All.
Of.
Them.
I listened to this one on Audible a few months ago. HOT! Her Omegaverse series is just… twisted and hot. Love Addison’s naughty worldbuilding! The first book in this series (this one) is free on Kindle also.
OMG I’ve just read this in one sitting and it blew me away. That is how absolutely fantastic and mind blowing the writing is. I’ve passed this book over so many times thinking I wouldn’t enjoy it BUT I WAS WRONG. I loved it.
Yes it is seriously dark and has a lot of dubious consent, but this is a dystopian world and somehow it worked. I know it’s all fiction anyway BUT when the Omega characters undergo estrous and rabidly NEED to mate with an Alpha it’s easier for my poor brain to accept.
I mean Sheppard was a grade A bumhole BUT he did seem to want Claire to be happy. The stupid d**k just didn’t know how. And when he sent Claire into the bathroom – well if I’d had a spade to hand he’d be 6 feet under – but I still kinda love him too.
Claire is one A-MAZ-ING heroine, and boy she really is a heroine. Her strength is awe inspiring, her persistence and resistance second to none.
The author builds an unusual world and we get to know/understand it bit by bit – I’m sure that there is still lots more to discover about the place. Probably all to do with murky politics and dishonesty. I found it so easy to ‘slip into’ this new world and the author does a fantastic job of giving us the information we need to understand it, without ever overloading and confusing us.
It ends on a huge cliff-hanger but also in quite a positive way. Claire absolutely rocks and she totally owns me!
Wow. This book will make you forget everything else you read this week. You want to talk about a crazy good book that will leave you speechless at the end? This is it. I could not put it down! It was dystopian and futuristic, with parts that included hot and intense sexual tension, forced imprisonment, betrayal and conspiracy! I got to the end and was left with my mouth hanging open, shocked by what Claire did, on top of the thing that crazy way that Shephard betrayed her. Oh. My. God. This book is so compelling and I can’t wait to continue with the rest of the series!
One confused mate
This is very intense, spicy hot. I’m at a loss at how to describe it anymore without spoiling it and I hate spoilers. It’s a cliffhanger which I also don’t like.
The narrator brings the story to life.
This audiobook was given to me for free at my request from the publisher or author or narrator and I provided this voluntary review.
This series has been on my kindle for quite awhile and I decided to dust it off and give it a read because I have been totally into sci-fi romance lately.
This book is dark. It is uncomfortable. It will push boundaries like no other. Shepherd is no hero… not even a little bit.
Shepherd is the Alpha of all Alpha’s and is controlling the city. He is ruthless and intent on ridding the city of the evil within…even though he could be considered just as evil.
Claire is an omega and can no longer see her other omegas suffer. Their fate is either to starve or be ripped apart by alpha’s. Their fate is not one to envy. Claire, who is on heat suppressors, decides to ask the Alpha to help the omegas, she wants to plead for food and safety for her friends…but what happens next is terrible….
This book is well written and the visualizations will stay in your head for a while. I am not sure I like either character yet, but I am going to continue reading because I am curious to see if Shepherd can be redeemed…even a little bit. Personally, I don’t know if I would classify this book as romance, and there are triggers galore. Be warned if you have issues with cheating, dubcon/noncon, violence, or alpha/omega dynamics this book is not for you. If you don’t have issues…pick up this book. I am going to continue on with the series.
So…this book…this author…is INTENSE. Addison Cain doesn’t shy away from f**ked-up. She leans in to fucked-up. No, she doesn’t even just lean in…she nose dives into the dark and twisted and fucked up.
This story is unlike anything I’ve read. Claire goes into estrus in the middle of a pack of dudes, and the biggest, baddest, alphaest f**ker of them all kidnaps her off to a dungeon where he keeps her locked up for loads of dub-con knotting and bantering.
It’s one of those books, I’m a little embarrassed to admit I read…not just read…INHALED. It’s…insane.
Shepherd might be my most favorite as*hole hero ever. He does what he wants, he doesn’t apologize, he doesn’t pretend to be good, he’s not masquerading as anything. And in a way, Addison is kind of making a point. She writes a dark world and in that world–the strong survive and the nicest guy doesn’t win. The most ruthless one does.
There’s something there I think. A rejection maybe of our higher mind’s desire for moral goodness, and an open acceptance of our baser, more animal selves. I’m not sure it’s necessarily beneficial to the soul to read her books, but it’s definitely taping into something real…animal and primitive inside me. Something I don’t really want to poke at in the light of day. I don’t want to love Shepherd, but I kinda do anyway…not that he cares…at all.
If you like your romance dark, sexy, loaded with aggressive alpha males who don’t care what the heroine wants because they’re going to make her love them…this is the book for you. If you don’t enjoy romances with dark themes like kidnapping, dub con…I’d sit this one out. Also, be warned, it’s part of an ongoing series that isn’t complete. Claire and Shepherd do get their HEA, but the series still isn’t over.
This was the first book that introduced me to the Omega-universe, where the universe was not just a reborn type of our own that included Alphas – but still looked like our own world.
In Born to be Bound (which is the first book of many, and you must read them all!) I was introduced to a completely new world of Alphas, Betas and Omegas.
Addison Cain’s world is truly something to admire. The plot keeps you on the edge throughout the entire book, you grieve, you cry, you feel anger, desperation, sadness – it’s ALL THERE, and in the middle of it when you think to despair – that small tiny slither of hope is always lingering, making you feel like maybe, just maybe – there will be a HEA.
Shepherd (THE Alpha) and Clair (an Omega in hiding) are our main characters, but there are many more important ones. The book follows a red thread and as you continue the series – it all makes more and more sense. This is a talent many authors yern for, and Ms Cain has managed it all.
This book had me up all night reading, I read it front to cover – I could not put it down. One of the best books I have ever read (and that is quite a lot of books) and a well deserved 5* from me.
The book is dark, it’s graphic to the extent that if you are new to erotic reading that includes a huge amount of fluids, mankind at it’s worst in a post apocalyptic kind of world where dominance and force is an every day thing? You might at first wonder if this book is for you – but I urge you to give it a try, I can almost guarantee even the most avid romance historical harlequin lover will swallow it all up and beg for more.
I’m not sure exactly how I came across this book, but once i read it there was no way for me not to read the other books. I didn’t even know what omegaverse was and was happy to learn about it. This is a dark, wicked, screwed up world. If you’re looking for normal HEA and all that jazz, this it’s not for you. This is about a woman who hates an integral part of herself and a man who encompasses his same part but takes no prisoners. Clare is an omega, she’s supposed to breed. It doesn’t matter if she likes it or not that’s how her body works. Shepard is an Alpha, if he finds an omega it’s his job to breed, protect, provide, etc. The beauty of these dynamics are they can bond willingly or not by being bitten by each other. This opens a door to each other’s emotions and can cause one of them to go crazy if the bond is broken. It’s supposed to be consensual, Shepard forces it on Claire. He kidnaps her, locks her in a room only he is allowed in, and throws away the key. Claire is an independent woman before this happened and now she’s trapped. This book is about what happens when she escapes and after she is recaptured
This is a dark, brutal and emotional read as Clair fights to remain free despite being a rare desirable Omega. Her continual fight against her brutal captive as well against her own nature makes this a rollercoaster read!
Absolutely brilliant! I couldn’t put it down and went into withdrawal when I finished it. Ms Cain is an awesome writer and her books are dark and dirty and not for the faint of heart.
Read awhile ago,& just read again! Loved it and saving my pennies for #2
Addison has started a fantastic series with this book. She has shown how strong and resilient women are, even when being held captive and taken against their will. I was hooked from the start and can not wait to get to the next book. Claire and Shepard’s story has had its bumps along the way, but I am excited to see how it plays out.
I absolutely love this book! I love that Claire is an independent Omega and resourceful. Shepherd is a violent, ruthless Alpha who took Claire as his own. The interaction between the two is hot! What great chemistry. A definite must read!
Heart pounding, jaw dropping, tear jerking, can’t put down, world of Alphas’. This book will addict you to the rest of the series and all of her other books. This is very much an adult story!!!
OMG! This book has sold me on the author. Anyone who can write this well is a flipping genius. You will never find another alpha build with such complexity that you will hate, love, and worship all at once! 5 stars does not do this book justice.
A Masterpiece. My favourite storyline, so far. Highly addictive! It has the perfect balance of uniqueness, wit, main-character-internal-dialogue, action, suspense, story, number of cliffhangers, etc. Her characters have depth and complexity whilst remaining, surprisingly, highly relatable.
I mean, this goes for all the books I’ve read, even the ones where I may not have enjoyed the topic quite so much, the quality of writing and thought she puts in remains masterful. This is an adult fictional book made for smart adult readers.
Appreciate all her works because she is the only writer, so far, that has created the perfect balance; ultimately scratching that internal reader’s itch (to put it lightly).
Now I’m itching again Ms Cain…. Need another fix! o_O
Where art thou Shepherd!
Absolutely brilliant book, Shepherd and Claire will truly suck you right into their amazing story.
This book is one of those reads that will haunt you in your sleep. You will agonize over the characters. You will picture dark places in your mind. You will feel hope and despair and you will WANT to read it again just to get that high that comes from reading a story, SO DAMN GOOD!
