This is the second book in Kalina’s story. This time we follow her struggle to fit in among her own people and come to terms with her role as a queen so fast.
The tempo of the story is different from the first book, but her struggles are much more difficult.
I can’t disclosure anything without giving spoilers away.
Rest assure that if you liked Eragon, you will sure like this serie.
A read that pulls you in right from the start. If your a fantasy lover and love dragons, this is definitely the read for you. There is plenty of twists and turns as well as intrique. It had me on the edge of my seat with the fast paced and action packed read. I definitely recommend this read.

I loved this book from the start, especially Kalina who is portrayed as a person who has her insecurities as a person and as a Queen. Even more so if some of her people don’ agree with her or that she should be even Queen to them. It is made sure after an attempt on her life.
This is the final straw and she runs away from all her responsibilities with Nash, the only person, who she thinks knows her. But that is far from the truth when things don’t turn out as she envisioned. With her new dragon she returns home and starts to fight for herself and for her people. Especially when Ethea’s King is attacking the Valdir one by one. And she gets support from Leif that seems to turn into something more?
Such an inspiring story to battle your own insecurities and her people’s insecurities. The Valdir living in a wasteland is a reflection of how they feel, shunned away in an unforgiving place. In the beginning of the book it displays a most common tactic ‘ Dived and conquer’ . But in time the Valdir knows the value of sticking together as ONE.
The question is will Kalina save the people she loves the most?
This is a really great book. The story and characters are very well written. This is a great addition for the series. Keeps you hooked and not wanting to put down. I recommend reading. (I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.)
The second book in the Valdir Chronicles seems more polished than Born of Air and the timeline is easier to follow, which is what I would have expected from the author, who is growing and progressing just like the main character Kalina.
All the main characters from the first book are featured, with some interesting new characters added into the mix.
Kalina’s struggles, internal and external are plenty and the many heartaches she experiences develop her character and strengthen her to become a great leader and queen. Along the way she also discovers who her friends are and that she has people she belongs with.
Once again Elizabeth De Vault narrates this audio book and makes for an enjoyable, smooth continuation of the story. She has a pleasant voice and she was very clear and concise.
I received this book in audio book format free from the author and am leaving this review of my own volition.
