The dragon riders disappeared the year she was born.Kalina is a nobody, an orphan whose only remarkable trait is the silver hair she is forced to hide. But when she overhears that she might be a child of the Valdir, a silver-haired race of dragon riders that disappeared sixteen years ago, she chooses to leave her old life behind and venture into the unknown to discover who she is and where the … unknown to discover who she is and where the dragons disappeared to.
But someone has been searching for her. In a strange city, searching for answers to her past, Kalina must conquer her own fear, deal with dangers she never anticipated from a crown she never knew existed, and forge friendships with unlikely people to help her find her place in the world.
Born of Air is the first book in the Valdir Chronicles. If you loved Eragon you will love this coming of age adventure.

This book is awesome! Kalina is an innocent girl, and orphan in her quest to find her roots.
Thought the rough plot lines didn’t came as a surprise to me, is in the characters, the writing and specially in the places and landscapes that the beauty of this book really lies.
I loved the story and the book ends with a really high note. I won’t be spoiler, all I can say is that I can’t wait to find what will happen next. The big adventure is just starting and will be epic.
I enjoyed this book. A child overcoming so much and coming of age. Plus, it has dragons!
I got an advanced copy of BORN OF AIR for an honest review.
It was an easy breasing story to read through. It does remind me of Eragon a bit. Love the mystery and how Kalina’s world falls apart when when she realises she is not like the others. She belongs to a mysterious race, called the Valdir, that haven’t been seen in a long time. Do they even exist.
But she founds allies in unusual corners who help her to discover who she really is. It is a high chasing story that keeps you reading until the end of the book. I love the tales around the dragons and wyverns, and the fantastical landscape before us.
Will she find her own people, or try dying for it while the cruel prince of Askor is searching for her?
The whole book is packed with action, with some moments to breath and have a lovely blooming romance.
First of all, I must admit that I am an avid fan of dragons, therefore I already knew it couldn’t be that bad. . This book is well written and drew me in immediately and held me captive until I was finished reading it. I wanted more and now! However, I am not a person who likes to cry (it gives me puffy eyes), I did shed a tear or two. I would definitely recommend this book even if you don’t adore dragons. It’s a great fantasy novel that you don’t want to miss!
Wow This story with Kalina is fantastic. This read grabbed me from the first page to the last. It took me into the world of Kalina and her unique situation. I love how the Character was written along with the other characters in this read. I felt like I was right there living the story vicariously through the character. This Author does a fantastic job at the story. Theres twists and turns. As well as dragons. There is never a dull moment. I couldn’t put the book down, I didn’t want to miss the story. If this is a series I just love it. And the book cover is magnificent as well. I highly recommend this read. This is more than a 5 star story. This would make a great movie.

Born of Air is a story of becoming, where a young lady learns that she is more than what she was taught. Being raised in an orphanage in a small village was all she knew.
Follow Kalina’s adventure as she learns of her heritage and finds her only family and what it means to be. Lots of adventure, love, and tears! Great coming of age story. Ps…did mention the dragons?
Kalina is a teen-aged girl living in
an orphanage, called The Abbey ,
near a small village.
Suddenly, one day, strangers arrive
in the village and she must run for her
life…because she has silver hair !!??
Have your coffee beside you, your
slippers on, settle yourself in your
comfy chair and enjoy this read.

Dragons are my favourite fantasy creatures and dragon rider stories are amongst my favourite. I enjoy how the focus here is often on character progression/coming of age and magic is secondary or not featured at all.
I liked the main character Kalina from the start and the other characters are very relatable too.
The parts of the country relative to Kalina’s adventures are well described and the glimpses into the wider world show that the world has been well thought out.
The first chapters were a little slow and all about getting to know the heroine Kalina.
After that the story picked up the pace and a number of different events followed on from each other in quick succession. In some cases I felt they moved on too quickly, because what happened should have had a bigger, often traumatic impact on Kalina, but she seemed to be able to move on fast.
I was also a bit confused as to time progression, I felt it was sometimes unclear how long Kalina was in a certain place and situation, and her injuries seemed to heal very fast considering their severity and often not be a hindrance to her soon after. Maybe Valdir heal quicker than regular humans, but if this is the case it is not mentioned.
Overall I enjoyed the story, though I think the author tried to fit too many experiences into the length of the story, so some parts felt a bit rushed and the effects and emotions not explored fully. Having said that, I would be hard pressed to say what could be left out, since everything played a part in developing Kalina’s personality. So maybe the book needed to be a bit longer?
For the same reason the flow of the story was at times a bit inconsistent. I am still looking forward to reading about Kalina’s next adventures and how she deals with becoming Queen of the Valdir.
The narrator Elizabeth De Vault has a pleasant voice and she was very clear and concise. In general I prefer narrators, who can give each character their own voice, but I didn’t really miss it.
I received this book in audio book format free from the author and am leaving this review of my own volition.
