A dark mafia romance novel by International Bestselling Author, Nikita Slater.Born to the mafia and gifted to a mobster. Two years ago, Raina found out that she was the daughter of a very powerful family. She was introduced to a dark new world, a mother she’d never met and an admirer who stalked her every move. She was forced into a life so foreign to her own carefree country childhood that she … country childhood that she simply couldn’t comprehend living that way.
So she ran. Away from her new and dangerous reality. Away from him.
From the moment Mateo touched her he knew she was his. He was consumed with the desire to protect her, even from herself. Mateo would do whatever it took to stop her from running again. He would take her captive. Treat her like a queen. His woman, his wife, his everything.
His obsession with Raina was a consuming emotion not to be tested. Any who tried would face Miami’s brutal new boss and the powerful mafia family at his back.
Born a Queen is the third book in The Queens series. Each book features a different couple and can be read as standalone in any order. Please note that this is a sizzling dark mafia romance with sexual and violent themes that some readers might find disturbing. more
“…she was injured, so any punishment would have to wait. He needed to teach his woman her new place in life.
Mafia, regret, revenge, betrayal, alpha, action, sexiness, power, possessiveness, loyalty, family and fear are just a few reasons I loved this book.
“The power she could wield with this man… if only she would allow him into her life.”
Loved the nostalgia of previous books in the series woven into this story – getting updated on previous characters is one of my favorite things an author does in a series.
“I may not agree with you. And I may actively take steps to defy you if we do have a similar disagreement in the future. But, for now, this isn’t the thing that will break us.”
Ahhh the anticipation of Book Four of the Queens: The Red Queen!
This is not a typical love story. Not a tame tale where a boy meets a girl, they fall in love and get married. Oh no, it’s not that simple. Raina’s a girl who lives life on the edge, being on the run from her mafia heritage to grab an ounce of freedom while she can before life comes come knocking at the door. And it literally does, in the form of Mateo.
Mateo is the second-in-command of Raina’s stepfather. However, he’s becoming a king of his own right and he needs a queen by his side to rule over his territory. That queen is going to be Raina no matter what he has to do. Mateo will keep her safe and by his side, destroying any enemy that dares to threaten her.
This is not a conventional love story as per the norm of Nikita Slater. This story managed to grab every moment of my attention. I loved every single part of it. I cannot wait to read the next one.
I love this series so much!
Raina and Mateo are my new book couple. Their story is so hot and complicated!
I feel like I read this book in just an hour or two because I was so obsessed with this book. I can’t imagine waking up one day finding out that you were the daughter of a powerful dark underworld. The emotions of Raina were so powerful. The story between Raina and Mateo is so HOTTTTTT. I absolutely loved this book and feel it was a fantastic addition to the series!
Born a Queen from Nikita Slater is an unexpected treat from the first page turn up to the last.
If you’ve read her before, you know that she doesn’t shy away from writing dark romance. However, with this latest release, she managed to insert quirkiness and romance but still with her widely known dark elements writing-style wise.
The book will reconnect you to the Queen’s Move characters that introduced us to both main characters of this book. Raina (heroine) is the daughter of the former Miami boss, Elvira/Vee and now the wife of Isaac Sotza aka The Butcher. She will be testing Mateo’s (hero) patience and sanity. Mateo has been obsessive and possessive of her since they’re “first meeting”.
I admit I was expecting for Mateo’s takeover in the whole of Miami to be the main focus but plotwise, the story was more on the building relationship between both main characters. In a way, this worked out really good for the story because you get to know the characters more and see how they struggle with their day to day lives and so the author managed to give you a different take with her underground romance. (Don’t be fooled though, there’s still tons of underground-theme in this book)
However, it wasn’t all romance as former enemies will resurrect and will cause them problems along the way. I appreciate so much though that this book is not so much alike to Queen’s Move; that the author managed to share Raina and Mateo’s story in a different style. The hero is still a force but you will also see his other side when dealing with Raina. I love the complexity of the characters and I think it suit them pretty well.
Overall, the author did a great job keeping up with character appearances and story arc for the whole series (though this can be read as a standalone but I highly suggest reading Queen’s Move first for full experience) and providing a continuous storyflow that will make you salivate for the next installment. This book (really, all of this author’s books) is a great example of a ‘dangerous romance’ you don’t want to miss!
I am looking forward to the next installment because the author just implanted a bomb that sure took my breath (along with my sanity) away!
This book is definitely worth the wait!
intelligent and unknowing of the dark side of things, the deadly Mateo had to be the one who falls for her. mutual attraction that makes things explosive, i absolutely loved the two of them together with her easy going self and his seriousness to everything. there was one point in the story where he treated her poorly and i got teary eyes with what was happening but it was all for a reason.
not as violent as the other books but still full of action. his love of books, playful moments, and his commitment to her melted my heart especially with what he did to himself for her. love love LOVE the two of them
and holy crap! desi and the italian guy! book four!! this will be the first where the heroine is the enemy from the other books and i cannot waaaiittt to see how the author will do it. im in love already!
The story is brilliant. I had a lot of different emotions while reading it. I was angry, sad, confused, and loving and hating some of characters. I still don’t really know what to say about it. I don’t really know where to even begin with this review since my head is still in the story. However, I do know I love the characters, Reina and Mateo. I love the story and I couldn’t have asked for more from Nikita. She did a great job with this book! You get a new story and you still get to see characters for the past books.
I have to love a book that can make me go hot one moment and in the next instance make me want to toss my kindle. Mateo is sexy, over protective, and at times so aggravating I couldn’t decide if Raina should jump him or run. Raina is a bit of a free spirit who works her way around Mateo with a gentle teasing that keeps him on his toes. Interesting storyline, secondary characters make quite the impression, and a fiery chemistry that left this reader completely satisfied!
Nikita Slater did it again!!!! A fantastic read. Who doesn’t love an strong h and a OTT H and Mateo and Raina is just that. This story had everything you are looking for in a Mafia story and more. I just love Nikita Slater writing style!! Loved it!!!! Love it!!! Love it!!!
Ok I got to say that I do love reading this author stories. The males are all possessive, all passionate in their love for their woman. But why oh why does the females have to be all stubborn fighting the man they supposedly love in every single thing.?That it’s only the headache I get when I’m reading one of her books. But the story line, the writing that are just fabulous and the males too I don’t have any problems with their possessives and obsessions ways.
Thrilling to the very end!
WOW! This story was thrilling from the very beginning right to the very end! It kept me on the edge of my seat with anticipation of what would happen next. Raina and Mateo’s story is rife with anger, hostility, murder, mayhem and a whole lot of steam. Their story is an emotional roller-coaster ride of love and hate. There is so much push and pull between these two, which will eventually make them a fierce couple in the end.
Raina is smart, witty, fierce and very independent. Mateo is angry, broody, fierce and the ultimate alpha protector, making him one fierce and angry beast to contend with. Mateo only has Raina’s best interests at heart and he will do anything to protect her. Even though Raina might find his ways stifling, she grows to love her beastly protector.
The chemistry that these two have oozes off the pages and is highly explosive! There is just so much that these two need to figure out before they can become the ultimate power king and queen that they are meant to be. They will captivate you and entertain you until the end.
This story is phenomenal with amazing writing and a story-line that will leave you breathless. I loved every second of it and I can’t wait to read the next book!
This story invoked so many different emotions. I adored Raina from the beginning. She was strong, determined, and a real spitfire. I enjoyed her snarky and witty banter and that she refused conform to Mateo’s demands to be the dutiful mafia bride. It took me awhile to warmup to Mateo, but he eventually won me over. His icy exterior just needed to be set afire. Mateo and Raina’s turbulent love story was filled with betrayal, revenge, and bloodshed. It was an entertaining read and I loved the character crossover from the other books in the Queen series.
