This is a great opportunity to get the prequel novella and first three books of the Border Series in one place! I’ve read them all independently and have copied my reviews below.
The Ward’s Bride:
I came across the prequel when it was being offered for free. Free is my favorite four lettered word. Plus, I like romance novels set in this time period so I thought “Why not?” I really wasn’t expecting much since it was a free offering, but WOW! As soon as I finished (at 3:00 am because I couldn’t put it down) I tried to order the next book in the series. Imagine my dismay to discover that it wasn’t released yet. I just hate waiting! Go ahead and get this book. You wont regret it. Its a great introduction to the series.
The Thief’s Countess:
I just finished reading The Thief’s Countess and was not disappointed. I came across the prequel which was being offered for free at the time so I downloaded and read it. I immediately searched for The Thief’s Countess, but it hadn’t been released yet. Once it was I scooped it up. I was only able to start reading it a few days ago because, well…life. in any case, I finally read it and was NOT disappointed. This is a sweet love story that has some steamy sex (but not over the top). I’m looking forward to the next one in this series. It’s probably a good thing that the complete series hasn’t been released yet because I’m sure I’d binge read the whole thing and I have finally exams coming up…
The Lord’s Captive;
I read The Lord’s Captive in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down! It’s the latest in the continuing story of the Border Series, but it’s not necessary to read the other books first. This is a stand alone book with its own HEA. It’s a great story with lots of complex situations. It’s easy to put yourself in the situation and realize that there are two sides to every story. Ms. Mecca does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and making them believable. I especially like that the female characters are strong and have a backbone. I look forward to the next book and hope to see more of the characters that were introduced in this book.
The Chief’s Maiden:
This series just seems to keep getting better and better! I really have enjoyed reading all of these books in the Border Series. By the way, they don’t need to be read in order to follow along. They are all stand alone books with happily ever afters and no cliffhangers. Ms. Mecca brings the characters to life with her writing. I find myself transported to the time and place. Other than pure talent, I think it must be that she does so much research beforehand. She must in order to be able to do that, I believe. I am already really looking forward to her next book.
Books 1-3 in the WICKEDLY EXCITING AND ADDICTIVE FIVE STAR “Border Series”.
These wonderfully well written stories take place in the 13th century along the borderlands of Scotland and England.
I loved the strong warriors and the sassy women who are anything but cooperative and docile! I was on the edge of my seat following the characters along their journey between war, peace, love, angst, and loss. I didn’t want it to end. I recommend every book in the Border Series and everything that is written by this author! Each book is better than the last. I can’t wait for the next book!
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Action-packed, Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Happily Ever After, Page-turner, Romantic, Realistic, Witty dialogue, Wonderful characters.
An exciting collection of stories by the amazing Cecelia Mecca. You will be drawn into a world of strong allegiances to England or Scotland which can often end in battle or alliances of the heart. I read each of these stories on their own.
The Ward’s Bride – This prequel is the beginning of a “Border Series” and sets the tone. The year is 1245 and In a bid to bring peace between the Scots and the English with a Day of Truce. It was the day Sir Adam, an Englishman was awarded Cora, daughter of the Scottish Lord Maxwell to strengthen the truce. A sweet story follows which make you eager to read more!
The Thief’s Countess – This was the full book in “The Border Series”. But this will not be the last! It drew me in right from the start. Sir Geoffrey and his uncle come to aid Lady Sara from siege in her home. She has been left without a protector since her father died. There is an attraction between Geoffrey who is naught but a Riever “thief” and Sara. The story is very well written and I could not wait to find out what happened next!!
The Lord’s Captive – This is the second book in The Border Series and is as good if not better than the first! This story is about Bryce, brother of Geoffrey in the first book. Bryce and his men have taken back his family castle which was raided and captured by the Scottish Kerr clan 5 yrs ago. In the raid Lady Catrina Kerr ended up separated from her clan and was taken as hostage by Bryce. What follows is a wonderful story about Bryce and Sarah as they struggle to come to terms with their attraction. I could not put this book down and you will not either!!
The Chief’s Maiden – Cecilia Mecca has created another intriguing tale with this third installment of the Border Series. You are captured from the first page and not let go until the end. Scotsman, Toren Kerr, Chief of Clan Kerr, has been given orders by the king to kill Stewart Hallington, English Lord Warden. Toren attends the Tournament of the North,so that he can come in contact with Hallington and carry out his orders. While walking around the tournament, he rescues a maiden who is running from the advances of a knight. It does not take long for Lady Juliette Hallington to become attracted to the strong knight and she is determined to get close to get to him. . Being pushed by her father to marry as soon as she returns home, she is determined to find a husband who she can love. When Toren finds out that Juliette is the daughter of Stewart Hallington, he feels torn as he begins to have feelings for her. The author pulls you into the strong emotions of the characters as the story unfolds
After you read these you will want to continue with the rest of the series. Each one is as good if not better than the last!! When I see Cecelia Mecca as the author, I know that the story will be a must read!
The Ward’s Bride: This is the first book I have read by this author, and I was pleasantly surprised. It has all the elements of a good historical romance with a stubborn heroine and sexy, strong minded hero. Even though Lady Cora was bartered in exchange for peace between warring nations, she has a mind of her own and her loyalties remain with Scotland and her family. She finds that the husband she meets at the altar is a surprise but is unable to change her mindset to accept the marriage. Adam is an honourable man and goes the extra mile in wooing his wife, trying to win her over by charm rather than force. A charming romance that tugged at my heartstrings .
The Thief’s Countess: An exciting, sensual read that kept my attention all the way. through. The pull of emotions and electric attraction between Sir Geoffrey and Lady Sara was everything that was forbidden to them, and yet they were unable to pull away from the allure of exploring their illicit relationship. Intermingled with danger and betrayal, this is a very fine example of medieval romance.
The Lord’s Captive: Driven by revenge Lord Bryce, drives out the Scottish Kerrs who had stolen his home at Bristol Manor. In the melee, the Kerr brothers inadvertently leave their wounded sister behind, believing her to be dead. However, Bryce’s men find her and return her to Bristol Manor. Catrina is unlike any other woman Bryce has met, however she is still his enemy and becomes a bargaining chip with her brothers. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the suspense with the threat of war hanging over their heads, and the romance between Bryce and Catrina.
The Chief’s Maiden: Juliette is a good daughter with a determination that she has to keep hidden from her parents and even the servants in her home. She has been well school by the nuns at the convent. Tales of love have touched her soul and she longs to have a love match despite her father’s plans for her. When Juliette meets Toren at the Tournament of the North, she feels that she has a chance of reaching for her dreams.
A great deal of research has gone into this series, giving background and history. The series is well written and easy to read, one chapter flowing into the next. There is mystery, plots, romance and adventure, all of which keeps the stories interesting. I received a copy of this series as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Enjoyable storyline
Such a great series. Rich with romance, action, and intrigue. Love her writing.
