This series just gets better and better with each new story!
The story in this book is surely being played out in real life – between illegal immigration and human trafficking. Gia is a strong female character who is still dealing with James being wheelchair bound but at the same time not treating him as an invalid. The characters seemed very realistic. Since this is the first book in the series, I’m interested in going back to learn more of the backstory of the characters.
This book was my introduction to Gia and I am hooked. Gia is a strong, feisty heroine that will let no obstacle stand in her way to find answers and protect those she loves. When she encounters and rescues a young girl, Gia is drawn into a mystery more complex than just helping her avoid the immigration officers looking to capture young Rosalie. Taking in a 7-year old definitely impacts her relationships both with James, her former police officer boyfriend, and her Aunt Eva, a mysterious woman with a dark past from south of the border. Even if you haven’t read the earlier books in the series, the author does a great job of tying the characters together so a new reader fully enjoys the story. I now have a longer reading list as I need to read all the other books in this series.
I am volunteering to leave this review since I received a free copy of this book from the author. Fantastic book. A definite must read.
Great thriller, rich and fascinating characters – so much packed into 172 pages.
Border Line grabbed me right from the beginning and the pace never let up throughout the book. While Gia was out with her boyfriend, James, a young Guatemalan immigrant, 7-year old Rosalie, was literally dumped into their lives.
Suddenly caregivers, the two of them try to piece together the circumstances that occurred in the life of this child to put her in this predicament. A rich story is woven that includes corrupt police and ICE agents, Gia’s distant aunt and drug lords in the Mexican cartel who will stop at nothing to get what they want.
In true Gia fashion, she takes on whatever comes her way to protect those she loves.
The action is non-stop and gradually Gia and James uncover the illicit plan that brought poor Rosalie into this country and into their lives.
‘Border Line’, the latest thriller featuring Gia Santella, by Kristi Belcamino will grab you from page 1 until the very last page. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of the book for review and made the mistake of starting to read it at 8:00 PM. Needless to say, the next day was pretty rough as I couldn’t put it down until I finished the book. 🙂 My favorite heroine, Gia Santella, faces the timely tragedy of human trafficking as she gets a scared young girl dropped on her unexpectedly. Her adventures with coyotes, ICE, and those who want her dead will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. I can’t wait for Gia’s next adventure!
The characters are great! Can’t wait to read Queen of Spades!
This newest Gia Santella novel is the best yet! The topics, immigration and sex trafficking (both so timely and heart wrenching) are undeniably gripping. Ms Belcamino weaves them into a story that is both thought provoking and entertaining.
While this book could stand alone (background info is woven in), it will be appreciated much more by those who have read the earlier stories in the series. I have enjoyed following Gia’s maturation as she deals with many unavoidable tragedies in her life. Her problems make her more real and relatable. This book (along with the rest of the series) is a great read!
I received an ARC of this book. This review is voluntarily written and is entirely my own thoughts and opinions.
Gia, as always, is a bad ass. She hears of an injustice and takes action. In this book a soft side appears when Gia is forced to care for a child who was trafficked across the Mexican border. Gia discovers the person who wants the girl runs (and partakes of) a child-sex trafficking ring. Somehow Gia’s aunt, The Queen of Spades, is involved and while Gia cannot understand why she knows evil is abounding and does all she can to fight it. A bit political in regards to immigration camps with children separated from ‘parents’. Kristi does make a point, though subtle, that officials do their best to determine if an adult taking a child is, in fact, a parent or relative. Especially since human trafficking is a real problem.
Every Gia Santella book is a thrill ride, but “Border Line” is standout awesome. Fast paced, well written, and loaded with action, this book is impossible to put down. Gia Santella is an interesting character, and Belcamino does a great job of providing readers insight into Gia’s life. This book in particular shows a maternal side as Gia battles corrupt ICE agents and human traffickers to protect a child. I highly recommend this series and hope Gia is back again soon. I requested and received an Advance Reader Copy of this book. My review is voluntarily and reflects my honest opinion.
This is another adventure in the life of Gia Santella. A young girl, Rosalie, is brought to Gia to watch over. Rosalie is someone a human trafficking organization is pursuing. This is another page turner and thriller you will not want to put down.
The 8th installment in the Gia Santella series weaves a story that intrigues the reader and pulls them into the crime world of a Mexican cartel and exploitation of immigrants. One is pulled into Gia’s life and the evolution of her relationship with James as he continues to investigate corruption in the police force and Gia dives head first into solving the mystery behind a young girl her aunt leaves in her care. A story of exploitation, human trafficking and the take down of criminal forces. Gia never disappoints in her role as our heroine and protector of the innocent. Kristi Belcamino is a master at character development. She has a way of creating strong female characters and a posse of supporting characters that lead toward an intriguing and suspenseful plot. I am always left wanting more; to know what happens next, and where Gia’s adventures will take her.
A book you can’t put down –
Gripping crime thriller –
Strong, totally kick ass women –
A series that gets better as it continues –
Gia Santella is perfectly imperfect! I freaking love that about her. Watching her grow into herself throughout the series is so fun. This book in the series in particular is so good, I literally took a day off to read it in one sitting. The topic is on point in today’s world and gives an insight into the other side of the story. Sometimes a series grows stale after a few books, you know? Not the case here! I just want more Gia!
This is the best Gia book yet. The characters continue to grow and develop nicely. Plenty of action. In this Kristi has taken something from the headlines of the papers and humanized it. The main plot is concerned about human trafficking and we see the results of how that affects people. The second plot is how James is working on uncovering police corruption. I will make the suggestion of reading the books in order only so you can see how much Gia has grown. And I loved what the Queen of Spades does at the end of the book. Highly recommended!
This is the first Gia book I have read. I loved it. It deals with real problems on a personal level. Gia shows her tough as nails side along with her compassionate, softer side. I am going back an reading more from this series.
Border Line is simply riveting. Gia and James are back for a new adventure, and Gia is still fighting for justice in her own stubborn way. We also see a new side of Gia. Kristi Belcamino’s action scenes kept me glued to this book. I read Border Line in two days! I’ve enjoyed this entire series and look forward to see what Gia and James are up to next.
OMG! This author has done it again, providing us with an edge of your seat thriller that will keep you up way past your bedtime. No spoilers in my reviews, but here’s what you need to know: Gia is a badass trouble magnet who always manages to come out on top, even in the throes of the worst situations, this time it is human trafficking. This amazing book does not have to be read in the order of the series, does just fine as a standalone if this is your introduction to Gia Santella. Be warned, however, you WILL want to go back and read the rest as the characters are certain to grow on you (in a good way). All of the Gia books are great, this one was no exception! Gia Rocks! Get this book (and all the others) now!
BORDER LINE …..Kristi Belcamino
Customs guard stopping Gia and James, we saw you pick up a child, wanting to speak with her. Our daughter Maggie, hoping the child, would not speak, when she asked ” mommy wants going on”, hitting the gas and crossing. Gia and James tell her they will find her mother and return her. No, mommy said for me to live with you and James. A woman in black told her mother. Gia knew who that woman was. Guatemala the terror that happens to the whole family. Grandmother paid a coyote to take them to American. Instead someone paid for this girl, a special order, and the coyote messed up and would be punished. James, Gia’s mate understands Gia, she is beautiful and wild. He will be beside what ever she does.
Readers will be astonished by the depth of this plot, the cartel, drugs, workers for farms. This goes beyond, what was special about this girl. Meeting Gia Aunt, they are the only relatives, her job is to protect Gia. She is even more ruthless and dangerous, if that is possible the Gia. Great story.
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
WOW what a book! lots of action and suspense. The characters are very complex and this storyline is very intense. Kristi Belcamino took on a subject that is very controversial and gave a good view of both sides of the picture. I love how you can feel you are in this story, actually know the characters. I especially loved the ending. A must read!!!
Though this book is the 8th in the series, it is the 1st Gia Santella Crimes series book I have read. I did enjoy the story but I think I should have read the previous books in the series first to fully understand what was going on with the main characters. There are a lot of emotions, references to past events, feelings, etc. flowing over from the previous stories and I feel like this story would have made more of an impact with me and I would have enjoyed it more had I read Gia’s other books to have a better understanding of the characters and be caught up with all the past events in their lives that led them to where they were in this book. With that said I still liked this story and was able to follow along well enough to make sense of the storyline. Gia was definitely a strong, resilient, determined character who would go to any length to protect her family and those she cared for. I liked seeing the softer side of her shine through her tough exterior with the young girl and the caring, understanding nature towards her boyfriend. I loved that the author wrote her as a regular gal with every day issues and struggles with herself and her relationship and did not try to sugarcoat situations or make her into a superhero that always got the upper hand; sometimes she just barely skated by on luck and it was nice to see that flaw. It made her seem/feel more real and easier to connect to throughout the story.
I received an advanced copy from the author and am providing my honest review. All thoughts/opinions are my own.
