Kennedy
I stayed away.
I stayed away for years, even though it crushed me.
Because that’s what everyone said was best.
I distanced myself from the man I love.
I moved on, or so I told the world.
Went through the motions, and smiled when I wanted to cry.
But one look at the scars he hides so well, and everything crumbles.
Tragedy won’t leave either of us alone… not for long.
I can’t do it … either of us alone… not for long.
I can’t do it anymore.
I’m not strong enough to stay away.
Then chaos flashes into my life, destroying everything in its path.
It’s time to face facts.
I’m forced to accept the truth I’ve been railing against for so long.
Lincoln Hayes is the only one I trust.
The only one who keeps the nightmares at bay.
Linc
I love her. That’s never once been in question.
Thoughts of her came with every bullet that flew past my head overseas.
Every night, I dream about her and what we could have had.
She’s the only reason I came home.
The reason I stay, even though the very sight of her is torture.
I want her kiss. Crave her smile. Need her touch.
But after I watched my brother die in my arms, everything changed.
I may have survived, but I’m not the same man she knew.
I’m damaged. Broken.
Kennedy Townsend deserves so much more than I could ever be.
That doesn’t mean that I won’t watch her six.
Keep her safe, even from herself.
To do that, I just have to keep my distance.
Until she knocks on my door in the pouring rain.
Scared.
And every instinct I’ve got after years in the military comes roaring back.
Boots on the ground, active and ready.
I’ll take out any threat she faces.
Especially when she offers the second chance I want more than life itself.
There’s just one thing I haven’t taken into account.
The worst is yet to come, and I’m not strong enough to lose her again.

Linc and Kennedy drew me in to their story. They are strong dynamic characters who have a love that is so strong it can set off sparks. When Linc lost his brother he lost a part of himself and yet when Kennedy needs him he is there. Will they find their way back to each other? This story will have you cheering them on to get a second chance for happiness. I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Talk about some intense stuff…WOW! Suspense ~ love ~ action ~ family ~ taking back ones life ~ abuse ~ murder. Linc’s love for Kennedy is one for the ages I mean name one man other than him who could do what he did or didn’t do for SIX plus years!! I love Linc’s character he is flawed but loves deeply. Kennedy is an amazing character too and what she went through and still went through was rough. I’m glad she did what she did. Those two are just awesome together! Shout out to all the Marines!! Shout out to all the military, police, fire department, paramedics and hospital staffs. I want to read more!

After his brother’s death, Linc pushes Kennedy away, feeling that he’s broken and doesn’t deserve her. She’s never gotten over him; she tries to move on, but that relationship turns abusive. He can’t be with her, but with his protective nature , he keeps an eye on her. Always. This book is a great read, a real roller coaster ride of emotions, with danger, second chances, great chemistry, and a host of supportive friends. Cant wait to see what the author brings in the next book.

Heavy read. 3.5 stars
This is the second book I’ve read by April Canavan. Again, I started with book two of a series. At first I was confused about who was who. I went and read the blurb of book one along with some reviews and worked out the characters. Linc and Kennedy had a really hard story. Although there were times for a smile, it was mostly heavy. Royal was scary bad. Again, it seemed as if the story just stopped, other than a teaser for the next book.

I have read several books by this author through ARC programs but not necessarily in order. Would recommend reading them in order so you would have a better idea of how all of the characters work together. The main families in this book are intertwined so at times it can be a little confusing. This is the story of Kennedy and Lincoln, who have known each other forever and were involved before Linc left for the Marines and to serve with her brother and other friends from Birch. With everything Linc has seen during his service he does not think he can be with anyone and therefore they part ways. Their feelings are still there but Kennedy tries to move on with a lawyer named Royal. There is some secrecy around why she breaks off that engagement and is now single. Both Kennedy and Linc need to heal from their past as they try to find their way back to each other. As with the other books in this series, there is plenty of action and suspense that keep you reading to see how Kennedy and Linc will get their second chance.

What is it about Birch, ME? There’s good men, but some seriously messed up guys too. With Kennedy, being the police chief’s daughter, means she knows a lot of good guys in the Birch Police Department. But, when Kennedy leaves her abusive ex and rekindles a relationship with her first love she finds out how hard it is to come clean about the abuse even with who and what she knows. When the woman the ex was dating turns up dead, and he starts stalking and gaslighting Kennedy, can those around her stop the past from repeating itself?
April brings the HEAT! Boots on the Ground is the 2nd book within this series and it definitely brings the heat! I enjoyed this book and this series is becoming something that is not to be missed! You get visually stunning characters and a plot that underlines the threat within. It is written with a lot of feels and remarkable characters that come to life.

This is the first book in this series that I have read, the story is dark, with suspense, danger, and a very evil man. Lincoln and Kennedy are two damaged people that together make the other whole. I enjoyed reading. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Kennedy and Linc were in love until he came back from the military a changed man suffering with PTSD he thinks he is too damaged for Kennedy so he stays away from her and tells her to move on. She tried and ended up with Royal who is deranged and has beaten her along with other cruel treatment. When she is kidnapped by Royal and beaten finally Linc knows he has to step up to save her and just maybe they can have the future they always wanted.
This is the 2nd book in the Birch police department series. It is a second chance romance between Kennedy and Linc. Will he be able to protect her?

ONE SENSATIONAL DELIGHT
Blazing britches becky! April just dialed my number, rang my bell and blew me away with this incredibly tantalizing, ground shaking, rock-my-world wonder, blazing through on the wings of a flaming inferno, hotter than an erupting volcano and more explosive than dynamite, skyrocketing this bad boy to staggering heights. Attributes and perspective in each thread you unravel with every page your drawn into this intricate web so securely and precise, observing the separate struggles and thrilling triumphs, while attentive to the dramatic twists and stunning turns unfolding, secrets are confessed and revelations are unearthed, putting our characters through their paces, wrapping this jewel up sleek, shiny and tight. Bound, wound and crisply coiled, exhibiting the soaring ups and agonizing downs, breathtaking in it’s simplicity and beautiful in it’s depth, blurred perimeters and frayed fringes solidify as limitations are amplified and tested, futures are forged and battle lines are drawn, jetting this baby to life spectacularly. The attraction and chemistry ignites with such intoxicating intensity and fervor, exploding with boundless emotions and infinite affection, drawing our characters closer, binding them together brilliantly. The characters interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits, blend and flow adding depth and diversity, transforming into outstanding personalities. The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating a majestic backdrop that’s so rich and lively it feels as though you’re part of the story instead of on the sidelines, feeling everything the characters feel. Amazing job April, thanks for sharing this awesome little gem with us.
I was very excited to finally be able to read this story. I read a teaser of it and was instantly hooked. This story did not disappoint in the least. This is a really good small town story with some intense moments and definitely might be triggers for some especially those who have dealt with rape, domestic abuse and violence. I do think the author did a good job with such difficult subject matter. Kennedy and Linc were meant to be but military service and tragedy came between them. Linc is finally claiming his women but someone doesn’t want to give her up. The story is suspenseful with danger, mystery, passion, love, anger, pain, sorrow, fear and great twists and turns. WOW!!!! I loved it!!
This book grabs you with words that paint such imagery of emotions you feel so deep; that you begin to wonder if you are actually a part of the story.
Linc and Kennedy are meant to be together, but continuously torn apart by war, death, loss, trauma, and secrets.
In the midst of all the emotions are a amazing variety of great characters. There are so many good characters, it does become hard to keep up with them.
Side note: My favorite character, after the H and h of course, is Nox. Every book needs that little kid who knows everything and tells everybody how it is, without hesitation. I couldn’t wait for the next time, he would straighten out the adults around him with his nuggets of knowledge. I am definitely going to have to go back read Parker and Remy’s book.
Back to the review-The amazing characters band together to not only protect each other; but make a path for Linc and Kennedy to find their way through the obstacles holding them back.
Dive in to this journey of love overcoming doubt, abuse, insecurities, and death. The strength, courage, and perseverance of this group of family and friends, empowers the H and h in facing their fears and holding onto one another.
I had only read one of the previous books and I could mostly follow the storyline well. I really did like this author and the characters. I will definitely be going back to read her other books.
Finally Acknowledging Their Love –
Kennedy was just starting to fully live her life, after living through a year of hell with her ex-fiancé, when he started tormenting her again. Link had been in love with Kennedy for years, but the events that occurred during his last deployment caused PTSD and made him push everyone away. However, when Kennedy was in trouble, Linc was always on hand to make it better. He soon realised he was deluding himself the more time he spent with her and acknowledged the chemistry between them. Unfortunately, Kennedy is keeping a giant secret, which has her running scared, but it takes her family, friends and Linc to give her the courage to divulge the secret.
This book is not for the fainthearted, as the descriptions on some of the pages will churn your stomach. However, there are wonderful romantic moments, a cute know-it-all kid, a beautiful camaraderie between friends and family, engaging banter and an intense storyline that will keep you engrossed. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

This is the first time that I have ever read anything by this author and i loved it so much after the first chapter that I stopped reading and went and bought the first book in the series so that will give you an indication just how great this read was I have to say that after reading Balls to the walls I did enjoy this a lot more
Linc and Kennedy are perfect for one another and they have history but they are also damaged in their own ways Linc can’t get over what he saw and did while serving overseas and doesn’t think he is good enough for Kennedy While she ahs trouble handling what he did when he left her. When danger threatens Kennedy though Linc is all in and in doing so has to face the fact that she is the only woman for him Can he keep her safe and face is demons so that they can have a HEA You will have to read to see This is book is the perfect combination of angst dram and wonderful romantic suspense
This was an awesome book. It was a second chance romance that keep me reading until late at night. I love the chemistry between Linc and Kennedy so much. I swear my Kindle almost caught on fire. It had danger, excitement, and anticipation on when the two characters would finally get together again. It also made me laugh and giggle all throughout the story. The best part in my opinion was that it included a strong kick-ass female. I’ve read both books in this series so far and I will definitely be anxiously awaiting the release of the next book.

April Canavan did a good job on this story, the plot and characters were strong, the story was written well. Kennedy and Linc’s journey may have had their ups and downs but they were fighters, they were made for each other. The connection they had was strong and their chemistry was sexy, they were good together.
This was a good story. Thanks, April Canavan. Good work 🙂
Lincoln and Kennedy’s story was one hot read. Promises were made, but then were broken when things changed for Lincoln while overseas. Kennedy tries to move on, but ends up in an abusive relationship. When Lincoln comes back home to his small home town, things change for him and Kennedy as the drama, perseverance, and unexpected twists makes their story a real page turner for me. Romance books are meant to have a HEA, and Lincoln and Kennedy’s story does just that as these two find their back to each other. ** I was gifted “Boots On The Ground” via Booksprout, leaving my review based on my reading.** 5 Stars!
