“Pure perfection. The writing flowed seamlessly, the story heartbreakingly beautiful, and the characters… God, these characters are forever embedded in my soul.” ~ Erin Noelle, USA Today Bestselling AuthorThe night I’m released from prison, she’s in my bed. It’s been eight years since I touched a woman, and the Native American beauty is half-dressed, beaten, bruised, and devastatingly … bruised, and devastatingly exquisite.
We’re toxic together, but we want the same things. Blood. Vengeance.
Violent relief in a warm body.
Beneath her touch, I’m alive.
Against her skin, I’m redeemed.
Buried inside her, I forget the past.
Until the past takes her from me.
Prison made me cold, but losing Raina makes me cruel. Ruthless. Unforgiving.
I killed before. For her, I’ll kill again.
I’ll end this once and for all or die in my boots.

I admit that I put off starting this series since it was about cowboys and unfortunately, they are not my thing. Please don’t make the same mistake I did. I’m a huge dark fan and I’ve enjoyed other works by this author so I figured I should finally give it a try. Can I just say I feel like a complete idiot?
Lucky for you the trilogy is finished with this book and so you don’t have to wait for the full story. Book 3 is the last of the 3 boys, Lorne who is finally back at the ranch after a stint in prison. Lorne wasn’t really a bad guy, but he went to prison to protect his sister which has been explained in books 1 and 2. Lorne is having trouble adjusting to life outside the prison walls and it turns out that Raina has a bit of expertise in that area. * Totally didn’t see that coming. * Raina is hiding out at the Ranch from Jake and Jarret’s dad, John, who had been blackmailing her into staying with him. She is so tormented by her abuse that she is going to take him down if it is the last thing she does!
At times their story was a bit slow due to the slow burn of their connection and the underlying threat to their happiness. I kept waiting for John to show up and even though I knew it was coming it still was a complete shock when he came back. And then how he got her off the Ranch! OMG.
Overall a great series. It was a bit lighter for true dark fans, but the suspense and tension between these couples was amazing. You will change your tune about cowboys after this series!

Raina and Lorne’s story! I couldn’t wait after the ending of the last book. I wanted Raina’s story and we got it! Wow, what an explosive couple and story!! I’d say this continues on in the dark genre, lots of that and angst for sure! Broody alpha hero too. This is the last book in the series and I’m sad to see it end! Make sure you read the others first!
Received an arc in exchange for an honest review. This book was awesome. Fun characters. Exciting plot. I definitely recommend this book.
MINDBLOWING!!!!! I have waited for Lorne and he was everything and so much more, my heart ached for him and his angry tortured soul as he is finally released after 8 long years back to the ranch and his family and he is so lost and his sights are on Raina who is also damaged but wants revenge and these two connect like no other and their foreplay is unique no one sees like them and hears things with just one look and they feed off each other with the same dark mind. There are no words to explain the explosiveness of these two, it was amazing with a big book hangover cause you wont get enough. I loved this series it was intense, complicated and beautiful all at the same time and the words are so well written and I loved it all.
4.5 Delicious Cowboy Stars!
Booted, the last book in the Trails of Sin series, is Lorne’s story. Lorne has been incarcerated for the last 8 years for gunning down the man who raped his sister, Conor. Now, he’s out of prison and dead set on punishing the man responsible for keeping him there for all those years.
“I hungered for blood and death so ferociously I couldn’t think past revenge.”
I have been highly anticipating Lorne’s book. We didn’t get to see much of him in the previous books because he was in prison, but his character has been the most intriguing for me because he got dealt a sh*tty hand of cards, and I’ve been curious to see how he was going to adjust with handling life outside of his cell and how he was going to plot his revenge against John Hosten, Jake and Jarret’s father – who is a complete psychotic bastard, I might add.
Of course, Lorne does have issues adjusting… I mean, why wouldn’t he? He’s been locked in a cage for years by a man who tried to have him and his sister killed, yet he goes to prison for defending himself. Lorne is quiet and closed off, a bit on edge, and then in comes Raina… a stunning and free-spirited woman with the same goal in mind as Lorne – kill John Holsten.
We actually meet Raina at the end of the last book, Buckled, when Maybe (Jarret’s girlfriend) saves her from being chained up in John’s house where he kept her as his whore for a few years. I really liked Raina’s character. She was brave, even though she’d had to some some shady things in the past to get by, but she wasn’t ashamed for doing what she had to do. She was blunt, honest, real and resilient. She’s never known real love, never had sex with feelings, but Lorne turns her world upside down and gives her a passion she’s never felt before.
Lorne and Raina end up fixing each other and when they finally gave into their desires, it was a nuclear explosion of passion. They were HOT HOT HOT!
“She’s a vixen. My vixen with fingers of sin.”
Pam wrapped up this series perfectly with the revenge being well played out and well deserved. And as always, this author wrote this series phenomenally, with captivating characters, twists and turns, suspense, angst and so much steam. I’ve never read a cowboy romance before these books, but Pam Godwin has opened up another door for me. This series is definitely one to read.
I wasn’t sure how Lorne was going to fit back into this family of friends once he was released from prison. He has distanced himself from everyone else and I didnt know if he would get back to normal. Turns out he finds a new normal for him with the help of Raina. Raina is someone that the family is familiar with but doesn’t know if they can trust her. She has been a mistress of sort to John, Jake and Jarret’s father. This is the third of the series and you must read the first two to follow the story. And the first two were so good!
Raina has been rescued by Maybe, Jarret’s girlfriend. She was kept chained to a wall by John and abused to the point of desperation. She doesn’t know if she can trust that Jake and Jarret will keep her safe from John since she willingly left with John a few years prior when John was kicked off the ranch. It makes her uneasy that she is placed in Lorne’s room. He is quiet and brooding. She can’t get a good read on him but has been around men like him before. Her history is not pretty. She has made sacrifices for the better of her family. She needed cash fast and she only knew one way to get it. Thats how she meets John. He promises her things that she holds hope he will follow through on. She needs to exact revenge on him for the betrayal he has committed against her.
Lorne is having a difficult time adjusting to life after prison. He sleeps in the pasture under the stars. And the nightmares come too. He vows to train Raina how to get her revenge and he is an expert on it. He’s survived 8 years in prison and was taught by John on how to handle firearms.
Together they are oil and water that is set on fire. They have an attraction to each other that they don’t know if they can fully act on. Raina has been emotionally closed off for so long, she doesn’t know how to let Lorne in. Lorne hasn’t been with any woman since he went to prison at 18. He too has had to shut down his emtions. The way they learn about each other and let each other in is beautiful. The danger they encounter is what brings them and the rest of the family closer than ever. I’m sorry to see this series end because it was so worth every word.
I can’t explain Pam Godwin’s writing as anything other than visual and vivid. Her words are like strokes on a canvas – wide and striking – painting a clear picture of her characters and surroundings. Booted is the final installment in the Trails of Sin Trilogy and I loved every minute of it. Raina is a strong woman who has had to do what she must to survive. Lorne Cassidy is an intimidating man but so very insightful. They have both been through hell. They have flaws and deep-rooted fears and issues but together they try to understand them and work through them. The build of their relationship is like a slow burn. The intensity of their attraction is deep. Their time spent together is steamy and erotic. The story looming in the background continues to intrigue and entice. It’s definitely a page turner and kept me hooked until the very end.
I have been so excited to get my hands on Lorne’s story. Free the cowboy! Eight years in jail and he’s going to be an exploding ball of lust and full of revengeful anger.
Bring on the big guy and bring down the baddies who caused the pain suffered by the lovely Conor, Jake, Jarret and Lorne that fateful night.
It was pretty clear from the ending of Buckled that the beautiful Native American girl Raina was to be the love interest. I thought she was going to be this timid little victim scared of her own shadow, and Lorne would be the fixer. But that was not the direction Pam took with Raina. She’s spirited and soulful and very, very wise.
“Everything that matters to her resides in the space between the earth and her soul.”
Lorne is tortured by memories of Conor’s attack and his time in prison. Raina has this way of understanding his feelings and is the soothing balm that brings the cowboy back where he belongs. She is the cowboy whisperer who helps fix Lorne.
I genuinely cried when the family all sat together to eat dinner. I know they are just book characters but I was so proud of them because their love for each other was so strong and unbreakable despite all the pain and suffering they went through.
The trilogy has been a great read. Shocking and tense, sexy and thrilling. Never a dull moment.
“I hear you. Every unspoken thought. Every emotion you cover up. I hear you.”
This book delivered everything readers could want to wrap up this series. Lorne and Raina are both so wounded and broken. It is not possible to read their story and not have your heart break for them. It was amazing though how their random broken edges fit together so perfectly. There is so much that is going on in this book emotionally. From love and lust, to hate and anger. Twists, revelations and drama all play a part in this intense edge of your seat romance. Absolutely wonderful!!
I can’t even right now. So good. SO good. SO DAMN GOOD!
Pam blows me away with every book, she never lets me down. She is one of the few authors I know will satisfy every desire of my little heart – and I’m one bitch when it comes to slush reading for a publisher and beta reading for other authors. Bitch.
Lorne has officially taken over the title of book boyfriend for me, something Rip has held since I first saw his name in Keri Lake’s Ripple Effect. Sorry Keri! Lorne is all that – the green eyes, the black hair, the freckles, that damn DIMPLE! UGH. My heart is torn into ribbons over his story!!!! And that graphic she created for him?!?!? *thud* My GOD…
I don’t do spoilers, but I will say this: the revenge is handled with PERFECTION, and the HEA at the end is everything I could have hoped for for all three couples. The conflict, internal and external, (never mind the sexual tensions!) had me so damn uptight, I had a headache for over two hours after reading. So worth it. Their drive, their passion, their connection – their ‘hearing’ each other was beautiful poetry, summing up what every human longs for in a relationship. Talk about the feels…
Best lines?
She pleasures me with passion.
I love her with fire.
Together, we reduce the night to ashes.
*double thud*
A must read IMO. A MUST.
How is it possible to love each book more than the last! 5 Star Series! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Lorne is one smokin hot cowboy! I’m in Awe of him~ Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Raina and Lorne together spells trouble in the best kind of way. They are sultry, seductive and so mean to be. Watching these two come together so at odd with their souls is truly healing. I’m so in love!
OH. MAH. LAWD. Ya’ll this book!
What an explosive ending to a fantastic series! DO NOT read Booted if you have not read Knotted and Buckled. Trust me, you will be lost.
Two broken souls:
Lorne has finally been released from prison after 8 years and has to adjust to a world without bars, barbed-wire and concrete walls. He also has to learn how to re-associate himself with his family, his sister Conor, and his best friends, the Holsten twins Jake and Jarrett.
A few lines from Lorne that made me swoon:
“You’re my whiskey…my addiction…”
“I love her with fire. Together, we reduce the night to ashes.”
Raina at age 14 sacrifices her body to care for her dying baby sister when she ends up at the hands of Jake & Jarrett’s father John, not knowing that he was akin to the devil disguised in nice clothing and a fancy truck.
So many twists and turns and truths come out in this 3rd book.
I would love to go deeper into this story but I cannot because then I would have to include spoilers and I’m not doing that so read the book!
This final book of The Trails of Sin series wraps up the trilogy with one of the best reads of 2018. I have been looking forward to Lorne’s story with eager anticipation and it deliveted in spades. The writing is taut, creating a strong atmosphere in which the two protagonists untwine and then rewind into new forms. Both Lorne and Raina have been transformed by their experiences and Booted chronicles their passage to a new start.
Pam Godwin takes you on intense journeys in all her books and does the same with this trilogy. She portrays strong people whose feet are held to the fire, and it is always fascinating to watch their reactions, to join their lives at a point where every action and reaction is crucial.
Pam has, again, written a set of books which will go onto my favourites list
And finally we have Lorne’s story in Booted. You must read the first two books before reading Booted because his book follows up all story lines started in Knotted and Buckled and does a fantastic job of giving us the fourth and final member of the group and his heart wrenching story. We also meet Raina who becomes a beacon of hope and light for Lorne despite her past. These two have an instant but very slow burning chemistry that burns throughout the book and finally ignites when they come together. And once again we are drawn in with the twists and turns and all the loops in between as we finally get closure in this series.
After being incarcerated for 8 years, finally, Lorne is a free man. Being with the people he loves and cares makes him happy and satisfied. But he still finds it difficult to adjust to his “new” life. And then he met Raina. She’s the kind of woman who can’t be easily fooled. She’s a street-smart because of what she’d been through early in life. Difficult choices she was forced to make and falls into the hand of an abuser but she was able to escape from him. Now, she’s planning her revenge! Two souls who have seen and experienced the dark side of life are now bound to bring down the man who continues to hunt her.
I absolutely enjoyed this book. The suspense of the story and the thrill of the plot. Lorne is such an unpredictable character and most of the time he’s a no filter man. He says what he feels doesn’t apologize who got hurt. What I like about him, though, is his protectiveness to the people that are important to him. Raina is not your typical heroine, she’s feisty and doesn’t tolerate whoever belittles or insults her. Lorne found a match in Raina, they complement each other.
Pam Godwin definitely saves the BEST for last. Booted is intense, steamy, gritty and a compelling story! What a way to end a sexy series! If a dark romance is your weakness, Trail of Sins series is definitely a must-read. Highly recommended!
“She pleasures me with passion. I love her with fire. Together, we reduce the night to ashes”
Wow Loren’s story is full of passion ,strong women and determination.
All I can say is Lorne did not waste his time in prison,he did some imagining..
The story concludes this series and what a great ending.
Suspense, twists and lust all the things you hope will come to Lorne
I don’t want to say too much but Raina is fiesta, misunderstood and brave her story is heart breaking and meeting Lorne throws her further challenges.
Her grit and determination but also her understanding are great features of a strong female character.try to turn the pages slowly but I don’t think you will
5 stars
This book is full of hot cowboys, the fierce women who love them, suspense, action and a happily ever after.
I could not wait to get my hands on this book and finally get the conclusion to this trilogy. It was so worth the wait. I LOVED Lorne and Raina’s story.
Lorne is a so messed up after being in prison for 8 years after committing murder after his sister was brutally raped in front of him. Getting out and adjusting to “normal” life has been rough.
Raina has been living her own personal hell for the last few years, and she’s finally escaped with the help of maybe, but the man she ran from isn’t done with her yet.
The tension between Raina and Lorne is off the charts, and when they finally give into temptation the chemistry is pure fire. I loved the slow burn in this book, how Lorne was so hard and gentle with her at the same time. This book ended the series perfectly.
This is the book I’ve been waiting for, Lorne’s story. We all know how it began, I couldn’t wait to see how it ended.
While each book is a different couple, they must be read in order.
What I love about this series is that each book truly feels like part of a whole. The series flows perfectly and I can easily binge this entire series at once. Lorne was the character we got to know about through the eyes of the other characters. He popped in in the series a time or two, but not enough for us to get inside his head. I often wondered how different he would have been if he would have been on the outside with Jake and Jarrett. But then again, he wouldn’t be the character that we love if he didn’t go through what he went through.
Raina is something else. That girl is full of fire and sass. She can handle herself quite well with our favorite cowboys, and gives as good as she gets. For someone that has been through something so traumatic, she remains strong, yet guarded. She’s a survivor.
This is a couple that is more alike than they are different. Guided by the scars of their past, they have walls that appear impenetrable, and fight each other every step of the way. Their one common goal is the catalyst that keeps them together and helps them learn to trust and let someone in.
This has been my favorite book of the series. I loved Lorne and Raina and their story of survival. I love that Pam writes such strong female leads that aren’t afraid to show some vulnerability. And her alpha males are impossible to top. I loved the epilogue at the end that showed us a glimpse in to the future, although it was sad to realize this was the end for our cowboys. Perfect ending to a beautifully written series
This is the final book in the Trails of Sin series. What a great end to the series! I knew I was going to love this just as much as the other ones. This is Lorne’s story. He’s was very hot and very alpha. I didn’t know what to expect after Lorne being released but it it all worked out in the end and i was happy to see Lorne got his HEA. This was another book that I could not put down and if you haven’t read this series, you definitely should!
Booted is the 3rd and final book in the Trail of Sin series and I loved it. This is Lorne’s story and as anxious as I was for his book I’m sad to see this series come to an end. This novel was intense, intriguing and extremely emotional. Lorne’s story was not an easy one but Raina’s story was heart-wrenching. Together these two deeply flawed, complex characters slowly began to heal the other in the most unconventional way.
The story has it all: intense chemistry, romance, friendship, drama, suspense and so much more. It will have you hooked from start to finish keeping you on the edge of your seat at all times with the twists you would never see coming.
Although each book in the series features different couples the 3 books are inter-connected and author ties up the outstanding loose ends perfectly. Definitely worthy of a 5 star status I loved this novel and would highly recommend it. This was a phenomenal read.
