“Pure perfection. The writing flowed seamlessly, the story heartbreakingly beautiful, and the characters… God, these characters are forever embedded in my soul.” ~ Erin Noelle, USA Today Bestselling AuthorThe night I’m released from prison, she’s in my bed. It’s been eight years since I touched a woman, and the Native American beauty is half-dressed, beaten, bruised, and devastatingly … bruised, and devastatingly exquisite.
We’re toxic together, but we want the same things. Blood. Vengeance.
Violent relief in a warm body.
Beneath her touch, I’m alive.
Against her skin, I’m redeemed.
Buried inside her, I forget the past.
Until the past takes her from me.
Prison made me cold, but losing Raina makes me cruel. Ruthless. Unforgiving.
I killed before. For her, I’ll kill again.
I’ll end this once and for all or die in my boots.

I knew I was going to LOVE this book and Pam did not disappoint! Imagine being the protector of your family and then being ripped away for protecting what is yours. Then imagine being confined in a small box and only getting glimpses of that life while living in a world that is meant to harden you beyond recognition. Now imagine being thrust back in your old life and being expected to pick up where you left off. That is exactly where Lorne’s story picks up. This man has already sacrificed so much for his family, even while being away. And now he has to get use to living again, which can’t be easy. But lucky for him he has Raina waiting for him. Raina also hasn’t had it easy. She has lived at the hands of Jake and Jarrett’s father for the past two years, and we already know nothing good can come of that. And when you put these two together…. Oh man oh man it is explosive and awesome and amazing! Raina is quite possibly my favorite female in this series. All the women are strong and don’t take any crap from the men, but Raina seems different. She’s the calm to Lorne’s storm and he holds the key to her happiness. When you have two people who have lived a lifetime of being alone and then they have each other to depend on and lean on learn from, it’s a match made in Heaven and a life meant to hang on to. This series is an absolute recommendation! And I will definitely be going back to these dark cowboys and their feisty woman for a much needed reread.
A fabulous ending to this series.
Raina and Lorne meet when Lorne comes home from prison and finds Raina beaten and abused and sleeping in his bed. He sits in the chair and watches her.
From there the story explains how Raina was held captive and abused by John but finally escaped with Maybe’s help.
This was a wonderful conclusion. With a perfect view into later years.
I’ve been dying to read Lorne’s story since I started reading this series. He paid the ultimate price for saving his sister, years in jail for killing her rapist. He now is out but harbors extreme social and confinement issues. Raina was saved from an abusive John, who is also Jake and Jarret’s dad, by Maybe. I guess you could say Lorne and Raina had an instant attraction but fought it off at first. When they did finally succumb to it , it was steamy hot. They helped each other overcome their emotional issues. This was my favorite of the Trails of Sin trilogy
REVIEW: 4 STARS
“Chillingly intense and devoid of sympathy, the man is chiseled in hostility.”
Well, this final book was most definitely NOT what I thought it would be, but definitely everything I needed in the final book of a series. This is my first series by Pam Godwin, and I am so glad I finally jumped into her words. I have to say that I love the way she closed this one out. It really sealed the deal for me on an otherwise tumultuous and emotional story for this family.
I knew Lorne had a story to tell and I was looking forward to his ever since I read Buckled. Yeah, sure – he oozed sex and strength from the get-go, but I knew his story was going to make me feel and think. That’s exactly what happened with this one. Knowing Raina was the one that his heart spoke to, that threw me for a loop and I had NO idea how I was going to reconcile my feelings on her for him. Well, clearly I didn’t need to reconcile anything. I needed to be patient for Godwin’s words and her excellent storytelling.
“No one will ever know you or truly understand, until they run their fingers through your soul.”
I think the best point for me, was the realization that while Godwin was telling us their story, I was able to formulate my own emotional attachment to the characters based on how she gave me the characters’ backgrounds and how she insinuated certain events. She led me to them, but let me fall in love with them on my own terms. It was very apparent to me and I loved that aspect of it. I think that is what made the story work really well for me. Raina was not the sum total of the outward appearance she projected and “lived” through. It made her depth that much more interesting to me. I read her character with wonder, not only because of her heritage and the way she believed, but also how she managed to be Lorne’s necessity without him actually realizing it until it was too late. I really liked her character. The same could be said about Lorne. His strength was never questioned. His gruffness was never challenged. But his emotions? They were never confronted for what they were, instead they were encouraged and welcomed by Raina, and the way she helped him get through it all was unreal. Again, I read her with awe. I really liked Raina…..if you couldn’t tell. I can appreciate that Godwin obliterated my preconceived notions about her, which also made their love that much more raw and emotional for me.
“Everything that matters to her resides in the space between the earth and her soul.”
I will admit that my rating fluctuated between a 3.5 and a 4 throughout the entire book, and I really struggled with that. Not because it was bad or poorly written, because that couldn’t be farther from the truth. She was able to give me a full-fledged image wth her words and she was very easy to read. I think what I struggled with most is the different tones of ‘voice’ I heard from Lorne. At times his alpha came out and that was hot. Beyond hot. It was compelling and it was totally in line with how I ‘read’ him. Other times, we got to see this man that was dealing with something that wasn’t put into words, because there was no way for him to verbalize how he was feeling. I felt so bad for him, and Godwin handled that with precision. I knew he was dealing with something and that was amazing to work through with him, but to also watch Raina ground him. The -only- voice I had a hard time with was the seemingly flowery, almost feminine voice I was hearing every once in a while. It just didn’t really play into the Lorne I was thinking he was. That is honestly the ONLY issue I had with this book, otherwise it was an amazing love story.
The final quote under my review is the perfect example as to how well her words flow. The beauty and underlying message in her book was a love that was undeniable, but necessary for survival and this was apparent in all three books. I cannot wait to read more from her and will most definitely look forward to it.
“He has a protective heart. Vigilant and, on rare occasions, chivalrous. But also lethal.”
~BEE
“She pleasures me with passion. I love her with fire. Together, we reduce the night to ashes.”
What. A. Ride.
The feels.
The angst.
I couldn’t wait to read Lorne’s story as I knew it was going to wreck me in the process. Lorne has spent the last 8 years in prison and his return to civilian life was so emotional. He wasn’t the same person when he went in and seeing him struggle to find his way was heartbreaking.
Raina was dealt a crappy hand from jump and has been through things no child should have been. Seeing Lorne and Raina come together both broken, bruises and battered was heartwarming and heartbreaking at times.
Lorne was broody and closed off and Raina was no nonsense and had a mouth on her which I loved! I’ve never really been a fan of Westerns but Pam Goodwin has won me over. This series has become one of my favorites. This story was well written and sucked me in from beginning to end. I DEVOURED this book in a few hours and I’m so sorry to see it end. I highly recommend this book and whole series 100%!
“Are you listening to me?”
“I hear you” “Every unspoken thought. Every emotion you cover up.” “I hear you.”
This is one of my favorite scenes
I have been waiting for Lorne’s story. I knew when it was time – his story would break me, and it did but it also left in its wake a warmth that only a truly poignant romance can do. This is the final book in the series – I am trying so hard not to break and give spoilers – Everything I expected and a whole more I didn’t even know I wanted! This series from the beginning has provided its readers with nonstop action, lots of gritty twists and “OMG No” moments and let us not forget the romance- and Booted just brought it all together – lassoed up nice and tight.
Lorne lost his childhood but he also lost his sense of self during the eight years he spent behind bars. He wanted home so bad but when it was time to return he was lost. The colors seemed to have faded from his vision, he couldn’t find his footing. Until he happens upon the slip of a gal his father seemed to favor.
Raina has escaped John and now she seeks justice – first, though she needs to get away from Julep ranch. That might not be as easy as she originally thought. No matter how far she runs at every turn there seems to be a brooding cowboy hell bent on keeping her in his grasp. But Raina has a secret weapon- she can hear Lorne, she can hear what he can’t voice. The question is can he hear her?
I honestly do not want this series to end!!
Booted delivers one intense, gritty, emotional and hot as hell story! The best thing about this book–this series–is that every character is a fighter, never letting the most horrible circumstances break their will or spirit. Raina and Lorne, are forever changed by the actions and manipulations of the same man. Lorne spent the past ten years in prison because of the events John set into motion and Raina spent the past two years at the mercy of his sadistic desires. In each other they find the strength they need to mend and find peace. Well, after some justly exacted revenge is delivered, that is.
Booted, like it’s predecessors, is a relationship centered dark romance that delivers the emotions, grit, and brutality expected of the genre but with a thread of hope and light woven in. While I enjoyed this series, I prefer Pam’s books that have a more complex plot. Still, Booted was very well written and a worthy read
I’m literally laying here crying because the trilogy ended. I want more from these characters. I want to see the kids grow! I’m just so… in love with Pam Godwin’s writing. This trilogy was my introduction to this author and now.. I feel like I need to dive into every single one of her writing.
This trilogy had tasteful and hot sex scenes while
Keeps the mystery and suspense of the plot going. I fell in love with all the characters and on edge during the end. Gah!! This trilogy was amazing!
OMG!!! I was enthralled and mesmerized by “Knotted” and “Buckled”, books one and two. I’m completely blown away by this third book in the “Trails of Sin” series. This is where Pam Godwin gives us Lorne’s story and it breaks my heart, to be honest. And then Raina turns out to be something completely different than I what I assumed she was from her previous interactions. This is such an emotional rollercoaster that is chemically charged with so many twists and turns, blood-chilling events, and heart-melting moments that are totally unexpected. What a great read and an absolute epic ending to an outstanding series.
Booted!!
An epic conclusion to an amazing series!!
Booted is the third and final book in Pam Godwin’s Trails of Sin series. You must read them in order. I loved all the books in this series but this is the one I’ve been waiting for!
Take one cowboy Lorne whose spent the last 8 years in prison for murder and a Native American woman Raina whose whole life has been a fight for survival, put them together and watch the fireworks fly. The chemistry between Lorne and Raina is off the charts hot, weather they are fighting or making love you just can’t help but to root for them. This was the epic conclusion to an amazing series that I wish wasn’t over. But Pam did a great job of pulling it all together and giving us the best possible ending. I can’t say it enough if you love a good cowboy romance and even if cowboys aren’t your thing you really need to go one click this book!! And as always happy reading.
This was a heartbreaking beautiful ending to an awesome thrilling trilogy of the Trails of Sin. This story was about Lorne and Raina. Their journey was not an easy one but it was so worth it to get their ending. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t stop reading until I finished this dark thrilling sexy story. Loved this series and I can’t wait to read more by Pam Godwin
Ms. Godwin, I loved the whole series with the cowboys. I love the writing. I love how there is a story. AN ACTUAL STORY that isn’t just a bunch of words strung together to get the readers to the next sexual encounter. The story is captivating. To other readers: you need to read the WHOLE SERIES to totally understand. Buckled is the 3rd of the series.
Rugged Alph-Male Cowboy read – SOLD
Man had I been waiting for this one. I devoured Booted. Lorne and Raines story is eptic, tragic and beautiful. I 100% love this series. I hope there is a spin off as I would love to dive back into the world of the six people that made the series awesome.
Booted kicked off with a bag and only got more intense as the story went on. What a way to end a series and it wrapped up so nicely. My heart hurt for Lorne and Raina. At the same time I loved how much she understood the man he was. Booted was hard to read at times and yet I couldn’t help but love Lorne and Raina.
I couldn’t wait to read Lorne’s book and have been dying for this book. Lorne is a hardened man and no matter how much his family wants the old Lorne back, he is changed. He went to prison for protecting his sister and spent a good portion of his life behind bars and not able to help when they needed him. Now he refuses to feel trapped again. Raina understands this after things that happened in her life an suffering at the hands of John Holsten.
I loved that Lorne’s broody behavior didn’t bother Raina and she gave to him as much as he gave to her. She beyond what I was expecting. Of course I should have known better. Pam Godwin doesn’t write weak women. Its together that they both heal and move on from the heartache and pain of the past. I just about died seeing Lorne show Raina what it meant to be loved and cared for. She certainly needed it after all the things that were done to her. I mean it nearly brought me to tears. The chemistry between Lorne and Raina will get your heart racing. I love alike they are and how their similar pasts draws them together, finding solace in each other. I have to say they are my favorite couple of this series.
Booted seriously blew me away. I thought it was going to be hard to top Knotted, but this one took the cherry on top. I felt so many emotions while reading this book. I had no idea what to expect. But a broody, unsympathetic cowboy who’s pulse gets racing over a raven haired beauty who fears her own reaction to said cowboy is everything I could have hoped for and more. The way Pam Godwin brings these two together is just about the best thing I’ve ever read. This is definitely a must read.
What an explosive conclusion to this series!
I want to start out by talking characters. I love an a-hole hero, I really do. The nastier he is, the better. I just love knowing that that a-hole is about to be dropped on his butt by the heroine. Lorne was a total a-hole. Of course, he had good reason – excellent reason, even. But he was still rude, obnoxious… and yeah, an a-hole.
Naturally, I loved him. I loved his broodiness and his grudging sense of responsibility. But most of all, I loved his initial inability to apologise or connect with anyone.
But the thing I love even more than a disinterested a-hole? A heroine who pushes back.
Raina was this incredible mix of damsel in distress – but not – and strength personified. She’d been beaten down and barely escaped, but her priority was always vengeance. And if that meant asking Lorne for help, she did… but she wouldn’t take his disrespect, and I love that so much.
Too often, you’ll get these heroes who are total a-holes – we’ve established how I feel about this – but then we’ll get a heroine who says yes, sir, no, sir and the hero never gets his much needed dressing down. For me, the idea of loving an a-hole only works if the a-hole can grow. Otherwise, what’s the point?
So in this story, we got the very volatile combination of an ex-con trying to fit back into the real world mixed with a woman wronged and intent on making it right. They fought constantly, challenged each other perfectly, and ultimately learned to navigate each other by listening where other people don’t.
There were some incredible take-home messages in this whole series… you know, taking away the murder and mayhem. I think these two couldn’t have been a better pick to end such an epic series – and to finally see all of our favourites get to live happily ever after.
HOLY HOTNESS! I Love the action, steamy sex, and, of course, the suspense. A Must Read! All three, in this serious, are a must read! Thank you for the adventure Pam Godwin
Pam Godwin has once again written an amazing book.
I was a bit skeptical about cowboys in the beginning, but boy was I wrong. These cowboys are hawt, and they are men of honour and integrity.
Lorne Cassidy’s life has been hard for the past eight years. He’s been released from prison and is finally home to the family that he belongs with. But Lorne is a changed man. Prison has hardened him, and he is no longer the person who he used to be. The people around him welcome him back, but Lorne has a new darkness inside of him. He is unsure of his place in this new world his family has built.
He returns home to find his room being occupied by a beautiful stranger.
Raina Benally is a woman on a mission. She is mysterious, but she has every reason to be. She also happens to be the first woman (who isn’t a family member) Lorne comes into contact with after his stint behind bars. And oh, she was also with John Holsten, the man Lorne Cassidy detests.
Lorne has every reason to hate her, to be suspicious, and he is. But he can’t help also be curious about the beautiful woman with bruises, and even bigger secrets. From the get go Lorne knows that theirs something going on with this young woman. She may not be very forthcoming with information, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to get it out of her.
It was nice to see Lorne come back home so he could be in his element. He lives and breathes for the ranch and for his family. His return was a long time coming and was bittersweet. His life may have been shit for the last few years, but Lorne still retained that core of good he had from before. He was scary at times, but he did what he had to do to protect those whom he loved.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a beautiful read. The heroine and hero both were survivors, who were better for all the suffering they’d gone through. Booted tied the story up neatly, with an ending all these characters deserved. It was sexy and dark, but the sexy times were meaningful. Above all there was love. Love that had been tested and had survived.
KaBoom!! Now that’s what I’m talking about!
Booted is the 3rd book in the Trails of Sin series. It’s the perfect conclusion to a fantastic series. Be sure to have read the first two books Knotted and Buckled before reading Booted.
The chemistry between Raina and Lorne is just explosive! This book is full of Angst, Hot Steamy Sexy Chemistry, this book is about healing and putting the past behind in order to move forward.
You must read this series. It’s perfection!
“The things you carry today will strengthen you tomorrow.”
The Trails of Sin concludes with Booted, the story of Lorne and Raina, two broken lost souls brought together by their tragic trails of sin, leading them to an undeniable soulful connection!
Lorne and Raina each carry a past that is weighed down by harsh choices that had to be made to survive cruel unforgettable events, but those twisted hands of fate have drawn them together where they find strength in each other and in that strength they see, feel, and hear one another to the depths of their souls.
I fell in love with Jake & Conor in Knotted, fell harder for Jarret & Maybe in Buckled, but my strongest love is for Lorne & Raina in Booted…. This final book was the BEST of the series!!!
After the previous two books in this series I was intrigued by Lorne and eagerly looked forward to his story. I have to say Booted was a fantastic conclusion to this series. Emotional, suspenseful, sexy, romantic and with a touch of darkness Booted will take you on quite the ride and leave you happy to have done so.
No better statement applies to Lorne Cassidy better than “Still waters run deep.” There is so much more to him than meets the eye. Eight years away from everything he once knew has left its mark. Coming home the last thing he expects is to come toe-to- toe with a beautifully, broken spitfire that intrigues him. Both Raina and Lorne are more alike than either wants to realize yet the connection between them won’t be ignored. I loved the witty banter between them and the moments these two butt heads. The emotional journey they embark on together had my emotions all over the place.
Though Booted ended up behind not quite as dark as I anticipated I must say I love this amazing conclusion to the Trails of Sins series. The slowburn between Lorne and Raine along with some unexpected twists and turns along the way kept me glued to my Kindle trying to figure out how this series would end. I’m going to miss my three favorite, swoonworthy cowboys and am keeping my fingers crossed there may be a future spinoff to this series!
