“Pure perfection. The writing flowed seamlessly, the story heartbreakingly beautiful, and the characters… God, these characters are forever embedded in my soul.” ~ Erin Noelle, USA Today Bestselling AuthorThe night I’m released from prison, she’s in my bed. It’s been eight years since I touched a woman, and the Native American beauty is half-dressed, beaten, bruised, and devastatingly … bruised, and devastatingly exquisite.
We’re toxic together, but we want the same things. Blood. Vengeance.
Violent relief in a warm body.
Beneath her touch, I’m alive.
Against her skin, I’m redeemed.
Buried inside her, I forget the past.
Until the past takes her from me.
Prison made me cold, but losing Raina makes me cruel. Ruthless. Unforgiving.
I killed before. For her, I’ll kill again.
I’ll end this once and for all or die in my boots.

I really liked this Lorne and Raina. Their story was a great conclusion to this series. It did feel like it moved a little slow for the first little while but by the end I couldn’t stop reading!
Well, hot dog this book was HAWT! I love me a good sexy cowboy and this series has been nothing if not good and hawt! Pam Godwin has created a series that is compulsive and the best book of the series! Lorne has had a hard time of it… as has Raina. I love the way they work together to get through all the hard stuff. Lorne was so angry and… gruff. I loved it! It reminded me of my husband. I really love the rough exterior to a softie inside. It makes my heart dip! I was sooo happy to really get to know Raina. She reminded me of a dog who was kicked and beaten all the time but never lost his/her fire. She was resilient and strong!
Pam Godwin has found her true calling as a cowboy sexy man romance writer with a bit of suspense and a strong sense of family. The family relationships really pulled at me. This story seemed a bit deeper and sadder than the previous two but it touched me and was my favorite of the entire series! I’m so happy and content with this ending. That prologue made my heart sing and sign, again in total happiness. Ms. Godwin writes like a dream with so much description and heart. I cannot wait to see what we get next! I’m hoping for more romance, suspense, some angst… and so much heat that you need a fan!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
Nothing is as sexy as a cowboy who owns your reactions. Your breath, your shivers, and your longing. Unless of course that cowboy isn’t much for reciprocating…
Lorne isn’t a fluffy unicorn. He’s a hard, unyielding Pegasus. This mythical cowboy is darkened by years in prison. He was shaped by the trauma he witnessed. He Breathes for his revenge. Lorne is not a unicorn. He is a beast of wonder and hard edges. He is sex, sin, and lust in a tight pair of jeans.
I didn’t just rate this book based on the complete hotness of Lorne though. No, this series has been an intense rollercoaster ride of fear, rage, and love. It has definitely kept me on my toes and made me desperate for more and yet Booted…is the answer to it all.
Pam Godwin gave us tragedy, star crossed lovers, and hope. There was death, destruction, and murder too but what’s a little revenge among friends?!?
Reviewed for Sweet Spot Sisterhood
I’ve been hungrily waiting for this book ever since finishing Knotted.
I loved both Knotted and Buckled but Booted was the icing on the cake.
Lorne is finally out of prison.
We saw him go in innocent and naive and come out cold and hard.
Lorne before all the devastation that descended on Julep Ranch was that absolute sweetheart.
Laughing, playing guitar, having fun with Conor,Jake and Jarret and helping in running the ranch he was one day supposed to takeover.
He was screwed over by those closeted to him and that cost him eight precious years.
It broke my heart seeing the carefree lighthearted boy become the anxious detached man.
Raina also peaked my interest in the previous book.
She’s had a tough life and was getting by the best she could.
Until one day and circumstances brought her to Julep Ranch.
She’s been gone from the ranch two years.
She comes back beaten and broken sleeping in Lorne’s bed and that’s how he finds her.
When I say broken I mean in body not spirit.
Raina has to be one of the strongest spirited determined female characters I have come across.
Lorne and Raina start a long hard journey of recovering and overcoming.
Their hardships also involve physical intimacies.
Lorne wants what Raina can’t give him.
He working on changing that though.
Until the past comes back with full vengeance.
Once again everyone’s lives on Julep Ranch is about to change.
As in the previous two books there’s always a scene that’s breathtaking and majestic.
In Booted it’s the lake scene.
Omg it was magical!
It was sensual!
It was spiritual!
It was a blending of souls and hearts.
It was a balm and a healing.
Once again Ms. Godwin deliverers a truly great story.
Her words pop out of the pages.
You’re not just reading you are feeling and seeing the words come to life.
Her characters are so well developed there’s no way not to feel like you know them.
The Trails of Sins Series is one of the best series I’ve read that delivers so much emotions,so much tears and heartache and then mends and heals.
It brings to life the power of love!
Just an outstanding series!
***Spoiler Alert! Please don’t read this review unless you have read Books #1 & #2 of the Trails of Sin series****
“He harbors a darkness that doesn’t feel quite right.”
Booted is book #3 in the Trails of Sin series. You must read Knotted and Buckled (books#1 & #2) first. Pam Godwin delivers a steady, heart pounding series. Knotted was raw and gritty, blowing me away in the first two chapters. Pam brought us to the brink before pulling back. As Knotted concluded Jake and Connor found their way back to one another. Lorne remains in prison and Jarret is continuing his quest to protect his family.
Buckled was the smooth middle between Knotted and Booted, even though the road was often bumpy. Pam Godwin has a way of tearing your heart out, piece by piece. In Buckled, she deceives us by doing it slowly.
Booted begins with Lorne getting released from prison and returning to Julep Ranch. Gone is the carefree eighteen year old. Lorne is wiser, tougher, raw and aware. Aware of everything around him. He is struggling to adjust to life after prison. He feels closed in at times. He is looking for direction and revenge. When Lorne arrives home what he finds is a beaten, beautiful woman in his bed. Raina had been battered and broken by Jarrett & Jake’s father, John Holstein. She was rescued by Maybe, and brought to Julep Ranch for protection and healing.
“His demeanor is unnerving. Downright scary. ”
Raina is emotionally guarded due to years of abuse by many people. She has nothing left except to seek revenge on John Holstein. This becomes a common thread between her and Lorne. They each have their reasons. As Lorne and Raina start spending more time together a connection is made. One that becomes soul deep. Can they heal one another?
“My heart is an island, completely disconnected from the world and anything that might hurt it.”
It is a slow burn between Lorne and Raina as they start to develop a relationship. There is a definite push and pull between them. They are both vulnerable. They each struggle to be the alpha. Raina is not meek. She gives as good as she gets. It is beautiful to see them connect and grow. They have amazing chemistry that is held back until it explodes! Raina is Native American. Pam Godwin incorporates many of the Native American traditions throughout the story. They were interesting and beautiful.
“Are you listening to me?” “I hear you.”…”Every unspoken thought. Every emotion you cover up.”
I was expecting something much darker from Lorne. After all, he was “booted” off of his own land, spending eight years in prison. However, his story ties all of the books together. Nothing is rushed. As it unfolds deep wounds and truths are brought to the surface. Lorne’s logic and planning make sense. There is also the huge fact that he was incarcerated. That limits him in many ways such as the inability to carry a firearm. And also the fear of re-incarceration.
“Chillingly intense and devoid of sympathy, the man chiseled in hostility.”
Lorne and Raina’s journey brings a satisfying conclusion to the Trails of Sin series. Although there was no epilogue, I really loved the last chapter. It warmed my heart to see the direction of their future.
“He has a protective heart. Vigilant and, on rare occasions, chivalrous.”

5 “Eatin’ Pussy/ Kickin’ Ass Stars”
I’m a self confessed city slicker, even in books the country setting isn’t an Ideal genre, yet Pam has managed to flip me with her Trails Of Sin series. I’m totally amazed by her versatility, she writes dark romances, love triangles, cowboys and paranormal, all with same proficiency, thoroughness and expertise. Her pen doesn’t miss a beat, moving across varied genres and tropes. And all is topped with her trademark sensuality and seductiveness. Heat and passion are always in foreground with a strong plotline base. She’s a marvellous writer, always a joy to read
Ever since book 1- Knotted, the Holston/Cassidy tribe has camped in my heart and refuse to leave. The brothers Jake & Jarret, Lorne & Conor Cassidy have become MY people, MY family, MY ranchers. The scars that mar their palms are itching on my heart too. Their travails trouble me, their pain hurts me, their calamities destroy me.
“They’re a cancerous lesion on the flesh of the soul that can only be removed with gunpowder and sharp steel.”
Pam has created a beautiful world on Julep Ranch where serenity and safety vanished on a dreaded night 8 years ago. They are all victims that are still struggling to collect their shattered pieces left behind & separated and stumbling on their weakened legs to bring some semblance of order in their lives.
Lorne is on a self imposed exile of sorts. His demeanour is volatile, the constant need to look over his shoulder and watch his back has made him high strung and unpredictable. He’s muted his words and introspected his thoughts to make sense of the outside world. His demons are relentless and deeply embedded.
“PTSD is unavoidable. No one leaves prison without it. I received an education in human depravity and criminal behavior that can’t be learned in a school psychology course.”
And what soothes this turbulent, impenetrable soul ? It’s open outdoors, a soothing presence and a cup of tea. The agitation that is his life finds a respite in the silence of night. Raina too has taken asylum in the ranch, licking her bodily wounds, finding much needed safety net so she can recuperate and reassess the danger that seems to be following her like a shadow. Together these broken spirits go back to her ancestral roots trying to heal together through customs and beliefs
My ancestors believed that all nature is alive with spirit. Animals, plants, rocks, water, humans— everything has a soul, and we’re all connected in one unified whole.
A soulful story penned by Pam, looking deep into childhood bonds of virginal love and brotherhood. The wronged innocent lives shattered by Avarice, greed, betrayal and treachery. I’ve to admire the tone she sets in this book. She doesn’t need to tarnish this vulnerable love with words so she cleverly uses the eyes, touch, night silence and dancing under the stars as instruments of romance.
We embrace without arms, kiss without lips, and fall with the ground firmly beneath our feet.
He smashed my heart against my ribs to make room for his. Now we beat side by side, stretching and growing together in the shared space.
Amazing. Brilliant. Fabulous words. What a beautiful line, it just hits you straight in the heart making the defining silence more potent, more pregnant with emotions than a pageful of dialogue. What mastery in writing, I was floored, just completely besotted with unsaid sentiments. I loved this unique take of Pam on her character development.
“I hear you.”
“Every unspoken thought. Every emotion you cover up.” His expression softens.
“I hear you.”
This part is definitely darker and sinister in tone, yet light is there just around the corner. Pam doesn’t let despair overpower hope or disparity of past shadow the future. The family as a unit bands together and anchors each other, they are willing and gracious, accepting and welcoming. Each member becomes a cog in the wheel of tribe and they together push danger away from their precious Julep Ranch
Blood, revenge, unity, victory— it’s all there in four hands, twenty fingers, and eight years.
Lorne hasn’t had it easy in life. Far from it. Spending eight years in prison will definitely leave a mark on you. It’s not something you forget so easily and Lorne can attest to that when he gets released. To be back with his sister Conor, her lover Jake and his brother Jarrett is proving difficult. Adjusting to being social and in public triggers him but Lorne find peace and comfort in the company of Raina.
Raina has her own baggage to deal with. She knows this group of people thanks to Jake and Jarrett’s father. She’s a strong and resilient woman who has made difficult choices in her life but has accepted them. She made those choices out of necessity. Because of love for her family. Yet those choices have also left her hollow and numb.
Together Lorne and Raina find a mutual respect for their lives and their choices. They fight and challenges each other constantly but that’s also what keeps them sane and them moving forward. Towards a new life. They’re intense and their need for each other is palpable. I enjoyed their bantering cause Raina enjoyed pushing Lorne’s buttons and vice versa. She’s tough and kick ass. Lorne surprised me with his vulnerability and his patience with Raina. She doesn’t do emotions well in particular love because of her past but Lorne proves to be so much more than a cold, ruthless cowboy.
This group of friends have been through so much. Their friendship and love for one another is their anchor. Beautiful, unconditionally and loyal.
Booted delivers an entertaining and thrilling story with a fabulous ending and conclusion to this trilogy. These guys aren’t just cowboys. They’re cowboys with an edge.
4 I Hear You Stars
Gah!! I absolutely adore Pam Godwin’s books as they are always sexy, dark, intriguing and so addicting. I could not wait for Lorne’s book as I felt that still waters run deep in that man and boy was I right!! I loved him and Raina. Their chemistry, banter and attraction was intense yet heartfelt. I loved that they were emotionally so tortured but had a connection that could not be denied! This was amazing!
We knew all about Lorne’s story from the previous two books and knew there was a story with Raina and John that needed to come out. Without giving away any spoilers I thought this book was So fantastic. It was emotional and compelling and I could not stop watching these two tortured souls come to terms with their pain and coming together.
All in all, this series has been fantastic and I look forward to more from this author in the future! Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula
BOOK REVIEW
Title: Booted (Trails of Sin #3) by Pam Godwin
Rating: FIVE STARS
Reviewed by: Ofa Reads
———————————————————————
Booted by Pam Godwin is the third story in a series that MUST BE READ IN ORDER. While each book is about a different couple, the storyline continues from the first book and cannot be understood otherwise. This is Lorne and Raina’s story and this is without a doubt, my favorite of the whole series. There was just something completely different about their entire dynamic that moved something in me. Maybe because both the characters were damaged beyond repair. Their outlook on life is dark, it’s gritty and they have zero expectations from the world.
Lorne, fresh out of prison; he’s broody, paranoid, stupid muscly & the biggest alpha-hole I’ve come across. He’s on high alert, can’t be around people and sleeps outside under the stars because being inside his room makes him feel trapped. He’s dealing with adjusting back into the real world and trying to figure out what to do with this sexy little spitfire he found on his bed hours after his release. Raina literally escaped hell. Beaten, raped and kept prisoner by the devil himself, she’s ready to get her revenge. What she doesn’t expect, is Lorne. And then a weirdly dysfunctional friendship is formed. But let’s not forget about the off the charts chemistry this two share. The constant push and pull between them is exhausting, yet still sexy at the same time.
These two fight their attraction as well, because, for Raina, sex is just a job, no emotion. But Lorne refuses to sleep with her till she gives him all of her. It’s a battle of wills, with a confused alpha asshole who wants her but won’t give in to his desire, and at the same time, doesn’t want her with anyone else. Like I said, confusing. But when they finally get together, it’s EXPLOSIVE. Fireworks go off every time.
However, this story isn’t just about the love story between these two. It’s also a continuation of all the drama from the first book. And in this book, it finally comes to an end. I can’t believe it’s over because it was such an amazing rollercoaster ride. This has got to be one of my favorite reads for this year, and that’s saying a lot. But I can’t wait for you all to read it and experience what I did.
“I hear you” means I loved these characters!
This is the story of two completely broken down people, who don’t even realize they are, and they don’t want to change. It oozes darkness from every pore, and yet, the cracks let in a light, that has you hoping our couple can find their way, can get the peace they so richly deserve.
Lorne is recently released from 8 years in prison. Raina is recently released from 2 years with John Holsten. Both had good reasons for why they were where they were. Both didn’t deserve to be where they were. Both don’t want the attraction that is sparking, simmering, and boiling between them. Neither can resist pushing the others buttons. Neither can resist the pull together
I was completely immersed in the world with Lorne and Raina, they had me hooked from the beginning, and I didn’t want to see their story end!
5 “I hear you” Stars!!! My favorite of this series! Lorne and Raina, two broken people find a way to pick up the pieces together. Their story is full of heartbreak and passion. A fantastic conclusion to this trilogy/series. Absolutely loved it, devoured it. Did not want to put it down. I highly recommend this read! It is NOT a standalone, must read in order.
OMG Pam this story is an amazing tale. Lorne and Raina have both been through hell and they both deserve to dig themselves and each other out. This is a wonderful ending to the Trails of Sin series. I have loved all 3 stories!!!
Lorne has to learn to live on the outside again. He has dreamed about his land and his family for 8 years, but actually being there and having all of the nightmares is making the transition harder than he thinks.
Raina is trying to find herself back after everything John has done to her for the past 2 years. She is a strong women and is not willing to let her anyone help her, but Lorne will not let her.
The pull for them both are to strong; even stronger than both of their stubborn wills.
Wow! What a wild ride it’s been reading this amazing series!
Booted is everything I knew it was gonna be and so much more. I fell in love with this series from the beginning and now that it’s over, I’m heartbroken, but it’s the best book hangover because you finally see how through loyalty, love and family bring it all together.
Lorne is another smokin hot cowboy, just released from Prison and trying to find his way in the world, without looking over his shoulder all the time. He love for his family never broke, even though he’s broken himself until he finds someone in his bed and his life changes.
Raina is strong, beautiful, and sassy. She has been through a lot and it only made her stronger. We find her wrestling with her past and fighting for a future she knows she wants, but is afraid it will end in heartache if she gives in, but she overcomes everything to see the love she deserves.
We are told the rest of the story and it came together so good and it makes you want more, you can’t put the book down, it’s a page turner. As I read this book I held my breath in places and could feel the love these characters have for each other.
Pam Godwin never disappoints, I’ve read several of her books and wow this girl can write and the story never leaves you.
An amazing conclusion to the Trails of Sin series. I devoured this book in one sitting, I couldn’t put it down. I loved it and loved the series. I can’t say enough about how fabulous it was.
