In this novel in the New York Times bestselling Bibliophile Mystery series, San Francisco book-restoration expert Brooklyn Wainwright’s latest project is for the birds, but it may have her running for her life. . . .Brooklyn’s friend runs the Covington Library, which is hosting an exhibit featuring John James Audubon’s massive masterpiece, Birds of America. During the gala celebrating the book, … gala celebrating the book, she is approached by Jared Mulrooney, the president of the Bay Area Birdwatchers Society, to repair a lesser known book of Audubon drawings.
At the same party, Brooklyn is flying high after she’s asked to refurbish a rare copy of Poor Richard’s Almanack when Mulrooney’s body is discovered in the library. Soon more troubles ruffle Brooklyn’s feathers. Her parents pop in for a visit with an unsavory friend in tow, and there’s a strange man on her tail. With danger beginning to circle Brooklyn’s every move, it’s clear she must find answers before things really go south. . . .

The latest in the Bibliophile mysteries and one of the best in my opinion. I recently became interested in feeding birds in my garden and getting to know more about them so a book that combines Audubon references and book related stories is a great find for me. It was nice to return to Brooklyns world with her hunky fiancé and flower child parents and all her off the wall friends.
Another excellent visit with Brooklyn, Derek, and the gang. The story was engaging and moved quickly. I was guessing right up to the big reveal. Not only that, but I was totally wrong in the direction my suspicions leaned, and there was a twist I *never* saw coming. Brooklyn and Derek continue to be endearing — I wish I knew them in real life! — and there were countless moments of humor scattered throughout, which I’ve come to look forward to as much as the mystery itself. I also found myself amused at all the ways Carlisle found to work birds into the book. I’ll be looking forward to another adventure with my favorite cozy mystery series in the future!
Brooklyn is attending an exhibition at the Covington Library featuring a massive masterpiece of Audubon’s work, his book Birds of America. While at the party, she’s given two books to repair/restore ~ a small, lesser known book of Audubon’s drawings and a rare copy of Poor Richard’s Almanac. But soon after there are two people killed and it seems someone wants what she has. Can Brooklyn and Derek catch the killer?
I’ve been binge reading this series because I haven’t read it before despite being a huge fan of the author’s other series. I’m really enjoying the series and this book is a prime example of why. It’s well-written with wonderful characters. I love the interaction between the characters especially Brooklyn and Derek. I was pulled into the story from the beginning and the mystery kept me guessing. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend both book and series which is best read in order.
Weaving real people and books like James Audubon and Poor Richard’s Almanack, into a murder mystery, Kate Carlisle keeps Brooklyn and Derek in danger, distracted, and of course a twisted ending. Enyoy!
Loved the characters. This is the first of her books I have read and loved the variety of people. From her hansom boyfriend to her earth muffin parents. Hadn’t know anything about bookbinding before didn’t know there was quite so much too it. Also loved the descriptions of San Francisco.
I really like this whole series about a bookbinding expert meeting a James Bond-type character, and falling in love, and being saved many times. The characters are good, the descriptions are realistic, the storyline is intriguing. I read all of these that I can, and you should, too.
This is an excellent series. I have read all to date and highly recommend this author’s books. Great characters and I have learned a lot about book binding and rare books in the process.
