In ?Bonk, ?the best-selling author of Stiff turns her outrageous curiosity and insight on the most alluring scientific subject of all: sex. Can a person think herself to orgasm? Why doesn’t Viagra help women-or, for that matter, pandas? Can a dead man get an erection? Is vaginal orgasm a myth? Mary Roach shows us how and why sexual arousal and orgasm-two of the most complex, delightful, and … amazing scientific phenomena on earth-can be so hard to achieve and what science is doing to make the bedroom a more satisfying place.

Mary Roach makes science fun. Her books are often hysterically funny, always readable and extremely informative (sometimes TMI, but that’s for her, her husband, and her mother-in-law to work out.)
I love Mary Roach! It doesn’t matter what topic she chooses to investigate, she writes hugely entertaining books about it. Bonk is no exception.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! IT WAS THE BEST BOOK EVER! THIS BOOK NEEDS TO BE SHOWN TO EVERYONE IT WAS SO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! I WOULD RECOMEND TO ALL! PLEASE SHARE THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
This is an amusing look at the science of sex and the people who are not afraid to go there. It takes a special sort of courage (or mere prurient interest?) to pursue research into such a taboo-ridden topic, and almost as much to write about it. Mary Roach is not afraid to go there, and she takes us into the doctors’ offices, labs and other venues …
Fun &
Informative
Very funny and full of useful info. I wish I had read it when I was in my 20s.
A highly informative and also hilarious account of Roach’s investigation of the current state of sex research. She has invented a new form of non fiction, riotously funny investigations of serious scientific projects.
Wonderfully imaginative while still remaining true to its serious investigatory premise. Research does not have to be dry!
Now, one must realize when diving into this investigation of the “ins and outs” of sex, that the lion’s share of modern scientific research on sexual matters concerns itself with the illusive female orgasm. If you don’t have …
I read this book several years ago and found it way more entertaining. Recently, I read it again for Book Club. This time, it wasn’t nearly as good. I think much of the information that was so novel in my first read, has been talked about in various media forms, or has become blasé for other reasons, so it just isn’t that surprising, anymore. …
Anything by Mary Roach is incredibly researched and factual, but she somehow makes it humorous and makes you want to read and learn more.
Read this and all of her great books.
Hilarious and informative all in one book!
I LOVE Mary Roach. Who else could make you laugh out loud while discussing the decomposition of human corpses? She has a curiosity for the quirky back alleys of science that is absolutely enthralling, informative, and hilarious. I would read her books just for the footnotes alone.
I love each and every one of Mary Roach’s educational, thought-provoking and laugh-out-loud funny books!
